I have a D-LINK 601 router which has been working fine. I was told by a friend that it is not password protected. I think that I have set it up now with an adm password. The router and the DSL modem is still connected as before, but the Internet LED blinks orange.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an older rev a DIR-655 that has served me well. Today I finally upgraded my ISP to cable (from a slower DLS connection) to get reasonable speed/price All is working very well but unlike my old DSL modem the internet status light on the DIR-655 blinks very rapidly all the time instead of when traffic is passed.The new modem is a Motorola SB6141,I am running the latest firmware 1.35NA I went through a complete re-setup to see if that would calm the light but no dice there. (the settings arrived at were basically the same for the old Sprint modem) ,Is there something I am missing or is it time to retire the old DIR-655 for something more current.

I have a problem, where we are installing a Cisco 2602 access piont, the AP is getting power as the lights are on (changing colors Green, White, Red). In the switch side the LED for the interface is blinking green only when I chosse PoE. Also I cannot see the AP in CDP neighbours.
It seems to be a physical problem but the cable is tested and showing connected for all pairs and parallal (straight) connection.
Access Point was connected directly to the same interface (I mean with a patch cable to the switch) and working
I know there were a few post about users losing their access point config after a power loss to the ap. I wanted to share that I can confirm and reproduce this same issue with a number of access points that I have. I opened a tac case and will update this tread as the case progresses.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy computer is a Toshiba Sattelite o/s win 7. My wi fi signal is excellent, yet my signal keeps dropping or saying limited access.I have tried resetting the router and resetting my default windows settings on the computer. All other lap tops and wireless devices in the house do not have an issue.I discovered the other day as long as the laptop ( not the router) is plugged in and not running on batter power that i do not have a problem staying connected.For fun i wondered if it had something to do with the power cord making some kind of connection when plugged into the lap top, (since everything is more compact in them)I tried having the power cord plugged into the lap top but not into a power source but I still lost signal.

I've been following those instructions to set a dir-615 as a wifi access point connected to a switch : [URL]. I am now able to connect to the 615 either by wifi or by typing it's ip address with another computer connected to the LAN. Connecting to the 615 by wifi, i can do a ping request to urls or receive and send mail with my e-mail client but i can't access websites using my browser.s it possible to get it working without installing some kind of modified firmware? I tried plugging the Internet ethernet cable in the LAN and Internet ports of the 615, none works.

View 4 Replies View RelatedIm trying to use my DIR 655 as an access point from my new router, which is a TP-Link TL-R860. I've read about every post and blog I can find about this and still cant get it to work. Currently I have a cable running from the TP main router to LAN port 1 on the 655. I then plugged my computer in to LAN port 2 to configure the router.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI've moved into a new apartment with a couple of people who already have wifi set up. They are adament about me not running a ethernet cable across the apartment to my room for my xbox 360. I have a DIR-601 from my last apartment, and I am wondering if there is a way to set up the router as an access point that allows me to connect to the existing wifi network and then wire my xbox 360 in.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just moved into a new appartment and my buddy next door and I are sharing a connexion using a 2wire router (comes with the internet connexion by the company, with their own firmware).
Now, since the 2wire router signal doesn't perform well, I set up my DIR-655 as an Access point.
Now I would like to know what are the optimal settings for a better signal, and also speed. I rather have stability by wifi g/n mixed (maybe will go n only soon).
Some extra questions;
- Should I deactivate the firewall on my DIR655 to gain speed? I imagine it isn't really usefull since there is already another main router.
- Should I check or uncheck "Short GI", "WMM Enable" and "Extra Wireless Protection"?
- Should I activate or deactivate QoS engine and WISH since it is an acess point to gain speed?
- The firmware on the DIR655 is actualy 1.21, is their a newer and stable firmware I should upgrade to?
I have a D-Link DIR-655 with an usb dongle DWA-140. I used to work with a Sitecom WL-341 router.I want to use the Sitecom WL-341 as an acces point to improve my wireless range at the top floors of my house.
What I want to create:
- The modem connects to the D-Link router;
- The D-Link router makes a wireless connection with the Sitecom router;
- The Sitecom router is now an acces point;
- I connect the Sitecom router with a cable or wireless to my desktop PC.
I don't want a cable in my house that connects the D-Link with the Sitecom. If I do this, not only will people get hurt getting up the stairs because of the cable lying there, it also isn't a pretty sight...
I want to use my DIR-615 as an access point. But i dont find the button "activate as access point". This button is shown in this Dlink DIR-300 manual url....Is this for spezial hardware only?
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo, in an attempt to improve my signal in my house I relocated my router upstairs from downstairs by running a long cable to the modem downstairs, since I have read that the signal travels more efficiently down than up apparently. That has not been the case. Now, I have two routers. A D-link DIR-655 and a Netgear router provided by Comcast which is a WNR-1000v2.
possible to set one of these routers up as a wireless access point? Have a router upstairs be the access point, and have a router downstairs connected to the modem. This sounds like this may be a solution but let me know if I'm completely wrong. In my mind, what I'm after is more of a range extender or a repeater but at this point I don't know the difference anymore. It's been quite stressful dealing with my old man for the past week because he can't use his iPad.
How would I bridge a wireless connection with a distance of 400 feet? Would twoAP1262N-A-K9 be able to make this happen? Or is there another wireless bridge that you all can think of?I would be connecting one AP1262 of off a 3750g switch and at the far end (400 ft aproximately) another AP1262N-A-K9.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a DIR 655 which I am trying to use as a pure access point for a network based on a Comcast SMC Modem/Router On the DIR 655 I have the DHCP turned off and on the Internet Connection I have given the DIR 655 a static address of 10.1.10.2 with Gateway and Primary DNs 10.1.10.1 (The SMC is 10.1.10.1) I have the DIR 655 connect to the SMC Lan to Lan. DIR 655 is G only to deal with and IPAD issue....
The wireless devices get an internet connection BUT... I can only contact the DIR 655 wirelessly the SMC does not show the DIR 655 as connected I can not ping the DIR-655 from the SMC. I can " see" the static addresses I have given to two network cameras but they don't not respond to Port Forwarding I have assigned at the SMC (that is more for info as I realize that might be a SMC issue) . How to make the DLIK visable to the wired network.
I have a DLG-4500 router as my primary router and want to connect a second router (DIR-655) to it as an extention of the LAN to the second floor of my home. I have found instructions on doing this with most other routers, but not DLINK. In fact when doing the initial configuration and trying to disable the WAN link on the second router by using a bogus IP address string (127.0.0.1) The router won't let me save the change? What are the steps for configuring a secondary router cascaded to the primary (both wireless) to extend network coverage.
View 13 Replies View RelatedA friend of mine has a network with the following setup: D-Link DSL-2500U for ADSL, connected straight into a Telkom DG834GUv5 (locally rebadged Netgear) which has 2 PCs connected via cable, and 2 laptops via Wireless. A cable runs from the Telkom into a standard IPLink switch, which merely extends a cable into a D-Link DIR-615 running DD-WRT that has 2 computers connected, and shares wireless to a couple laptops.
At the moment the network is somewhat unstable, and recently the Telkom router has been giving serious problems, even after resetting to default. I want to try make the network a bit simpler and more stable. Firstly, I want to remove the IPLink switch, which merely extends the cable. Is an Ethernet Coupler what I need? Both cables are definitely under 100m combined (probably under 50m).
Now the big thing is a replacement for the Telkom (rebadged NetGear). Should I get another D-Link DIR-615 or is there a better solution? Their budget is between $40 and $60 US. Is it best to stick to the same brand, considering both devices are D-Link at present?
I recently picked up a 655 with hardware version A2 and flashed to the latest firmware. I have a HotBrick router. I only want to use the 655 as an access point AND especially to use the Guest Access or Guest Zone feature to allow visitors to bring their laptops and not virus up my network. My home network is open among a few computers for things like SageTV, file serving, etc.I can get the 655 to function just fine as a standard access point by following the instructions to turn off UPNP, DHCP, etc. as outlined in the manual. I then enable the Guest Access/Zone feature, and of course give it a different SSID name, make sure it's on 24 hours a day, that it is enabled, etc.
But, none of my computers can access the internet via the Guest Account feature, just the regular wireless portion. They show connecting to the Guest Account name, etc. but no internet. I've disabled every security feature I know of to test this. Again, the "regular" WAP tests great, but no Guest Account, which is really important and one of the main reasons I bought the unit.I'm wondering - does the Guest Account feature only work if the 655 is the main router, has DHCP enabled, etc.? Does it have to be the one and only router? If so, I'm in trouble, because I can't really give up my HotBrick due to failover features, etc.
