D-Link DIR-655 :: Using As Access Point From TP-Link TL-R860?

Jan 2, 2013

Im trying to use my DIR 655 as an access point from my new router, which is a TP-Link TL-R860. I've read about every post and blog I can find about this and still cant get it to work. Currently I have a cable running from the TP main router to LAN port 1 on the 655. I then plugged my computer in to LAN port 2 to configure the router.

D-Link DIR-655 :: How Can It Be Used As Access Point

I changed the router IP of 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.2, and disabled the DHCP.  But I cannot access the DIR655 at the above new address by a browser. Note that the existing router's IP is 192.168.1.1 which the DIR655 is going to be cascaded with.

I've been following those instructions to set a dir-615 as a wifi access point connected to a switch : [URL]. I am now able to connect to the 615 either by wifi or by typing it's ip address with another computer connected to the LAN. Connecting to the 615 by wifi, i can do a ping request to urls or receive and send mail with my e-mail client but i can't access websites using my browser.s it possible to get it working without installing some kind of modified firmware? I tried plugging the Internet ethernet cable in the LAN and Internet ports of the 615, none works.

D-Link DIR-655 :: Optimizing As Access Point?

Nov 14, 2011

I just moved into a new appartment and my buddy next door and I are sharing a connexion using a 2wire router (comes with the internet connexion by the company, with their own firmware).

Now, since the 2wire router signal doesn't perform well, I set up my DIR-655 as an Access point.

Now I would like to know what are the optimal settings for a better signal, and also speed. I rather have stability by wifi g/n mixed (maybe will go n only soon).

Some extra questions;

- Should I deactivate the firewall on my DIR655 to gain speed? I imagine it isn't really usefull since there is already another main router.

- Should I check or uncheck "Short GI", "WMM Enable" and "Extra Wireless Protection"?

- Should I activate or deactivate QoS engine and WISH since it is an acess point to gain speed?

- The firmware on the DIR655 is actualy 1.21, is their a newer and stable firmware I should upgrade to?

D-Link DIR-655 :: Use Old Router As An Access Point?

May 28, 2011

I have a D-Link DIR-655 with an usb dongle DWA-140. I used to work with a Sitecom WL-341 router.I want to use the Sitecom WL-341 as an acces point to improve my wireless range at the top floors of my house.

What I want to create:

- The modem connects to the D-Link router;

- The D-Link router makes a wireless connection with the Sitecom router;

- The Sitecom router is now an acces point;

- I connect the Sitecom router with a cable or wireless to my desktop PC.

I don't want a cable in my house that connects the D-Link with the Sitecom. If I do this, not only will people get hurt getting up the stairs because of the cable lying there, it also isn't a pretty sight...

D-Link DIR-655 - Set Up Wireless Access Point?

Jun 11, 2011

So, in an attempt to improve my signal in my house I relocated my router upstairs from downstairs by running a long cable to the modem downstairs, since I have read that the signal travels more efficiently down than up apparently. That has not been the case. Now, I have two routers. A D-link DIR-655 and a Netgear router provided by Comcast which is a WNR-1000v2.

possible to set one of these routers up as a wireless access point? Have a router upstairs be the access point, and have a router downstairs connected to the modem. This sounds like this may be a solution but let me know if I'm completely wrong. In my mind, what I'm after is more of a range extender or a repeater but at this point I don't know the difference anymore. It's been quite stressful dealing with my old man for the past week because he can't use his iPad.

The wireless devices get an internet connection BUT...  I can only contact the DIR 655 wirelessly   the SMC does not show the DIR 655 as connected I can not ping the DIR-655 from the SMC.   I can " see" the static addresses I have given to two network cameras  but they don't not respond to Port Forwarding I have assigned at the SMC  (that is more for info as I realize that might be a SMC issue) . How to make the DLIK visable to the wired network.

D-Link DIR-615 :: New Wireless Router / Access Point

Nov 5, 2012

A friend of mine has a network with the following setup: D-Link DSL-2500U for ADSL, connected straight into a Telkom DG834GUv5 (locally rebadged Netgear) which has 2 PCs connected via cable, and 2 laptops via Wireless. A cable runs from the Telkom into a standard IPLink switch, which merely extends a cable into a D-Link DIR-615 running DD-WRT that has 2 computers connected, and shares wireless to a couple laptops.

At the moment the network is somewhat unstable, and recently the Telkom router has been giving serious problems, even after resetting to default. I want to try make the network a bit simpler and more stable. Firstly, I want to remove the IPLink switch, which merely extends the cable. Is an Ethernet Coupler what I need? Both cables are definitely under 100m combined (probably under 50m).

Now the big thing is a replacement for the Telkom (rebadged NetGear). Should I get another D-Link DIR-615 or is there a better solution? Their budget is between $40 and $60 US. Is it best to stick to the same brand, considering both devices are D-Link at present?

D-Link DIR-655 :: Access Point With Guest Zone

Mar 23, 2010

I recently picked up a 655 with hardware version A2 and flashed to the latest firmware.  I have a HotBrick router.  I only want to use the 655 as an access point AND especially to use the Guest Access or Guest Zone feature to allow visitors to bring their laptops and not virus up my network.  My home network is open among a few computers for things like SageTV, file serving, etc.I can get the 655 to function just fine as a standard access point by following the instructions to turn off UPNP, DHCP, etc. as outlined in the manual.  I then enable the Guest Access/Zone  feature, and of course give it a different SSID name, make sure it's on 24 hours a day, that it is enabled, etc.

But, none of my computers can access the internet via the Guest Account feature, just the regular wireless portion.  They show connecting to the Guest Account name, etc. but no internet.  I've disabled every security feature I know of to test this.  Again, the "regular" WAP tests great, but no Guest Account, which is really important and one of the main reasons I bought the unit.I'm wondering - does the Guest Account feature only work if the 655 is the main router, has DHCP enabled, etc.?  Does it have to be the one and only router?  If so, I'm in trouble, because I can't really give up my HotBrick due to failover features, etc.

D-Link DIR-825 :: Getting Access Point And Signal Strength?

Setting Up TP Link TL-WR941D Router And Access Point?

Oct 1, 2011

setting up wifi network in my office. my complete set up right now. the main problem is how to setup my access points . Okay so here it is.

I have 3 - 4 PCS in my office out of which My machine is the main machine and everything is setup on this. so for networking what i have done is i am using a TP link router model TL-WR941D. i had got it configured from an engineer. A cable from my internet modem goes into the blue port of this router(WAN) and my PCs are connected via the LAN port of the router . so everything is working fine right now the local network and internet on all PCS and my laptop also connects through the wifi and is able to access other pcs and also the internet.

To have better signal strength on other floors of the building my engineer had installed 2 access points. They are TP link model Tl-WA901ND. yesterday i updated the firmware of my main router and the settings were some how lost but i managed to set it back to working state using the quick setup utility. so my router and wifi is working fine. But now my access points have stopped sworking . i mean i am not able to get better signal strengths thorugh them. i am assuming theirs ettings /ip etc are lost. now i have no idea how to setup these access points to be used again as part of my wifi network. I looked on the internet but nowhere the thing has been explained in detail. how can i configure my access points/repeaters agaain? i am stuck and engineer is not available for nest few days and my officee internet is suffering.

D-Link DIR-655 :: Access Point Stops Broadcasting Wireless?

Dec 13, 2011

I have two DIR-655s. One is my main router, connected to my modem. The other, on the other side of the house, is set up as an access point. I followed this guide to set up my AP: [URL]

Both are are hard wired. I have both of them using the same SSID. Both are 802.11g only, have the same security mode, and key. The only wireless difference is the channel. One uses 6, while the other uses 11.

On initial setup, everything is fine, but after a few hours, the AP just seems to stop broadcasting a signal. I'm using "Wifi Analyzer" on Android to monitor it. When I look at the AP, the wifi indicator light is still on. If I log into it, change the channel, and press save on the "Wireless Settings" screen, it will broadcast for a few more hours before stopping again. The wired connect of this AP always seems to work (Xbox is hard wired to it).

AP Hardware Version: B1 / Firmware Version: 2.03NA

D-Link DIR-655 :: Connecting Linksys Router As Access Point?

Mar 21, 2011

My home network currently has a Linksys router (essentially acting as a wireless access point) in a distant part of the house connected to my main router, a Netgear WNR2000, and this configuration is working fine.

I want to replace the main router with a new D-Link DIR-655 (better parental controls).  When I swap in the new router and get the cables plugged in in the same manner as they are in the Netgear router, computers connecting wirelessly to the Linksys router can no longer access the Internet.

The Netgear router is set up with an IP address of 192.168.4.1.  The Linksys is 192.168.2.1, and the D-Link is at the default 192.168.0.1.

The D-Link is a DIR-655 with firmware 2.10NA.  The Linksys is a WRT54GL with Tomato 1.25.  Here are a couple screenshots for the DIR-655

D-Link DIR-655 :: Can't Establish A Wireless Connection To Access Point

Aug 31, 2011

So I've decided to use a different router to resolve some VPN issues, and want to use my DIR-655 as a pure wireless access point.  I need the access point to use the same range of IP addresses as the rest of the network (maintain access to networked printers, file shares, etc).  However, I can't establish a wireless connection to the access point.

- Defined a IP address for the DIR-655 within the DHCP range of the primary router
- Defined the proper subnet
- Disabled the DHCP server on the DIR-655
- Connect a LAN port of the DIR-655 to a LAN port on a switch (note that it's not connected directly to a router).

When I connect a device WIRED to a LAN port on the DIR-655, everything works fine.  The device gets assigned a DHCP address (which I know is being assigned by the main router since the DIR-655 DHCP server is disabled), and I can connect to the LAN and I can access the internet with no problem.  So I know the DIR-655 is acting correctly to pass thru traffic.  Also, I can access the DIR-655 web configuration page from any LAN device (even a device not directly connected to the DIR-655), so I know the DIR-655 is on that LAN correctly.

But when I try to connect WIRELESS to the DIR-655, it doesn't work at all.  Although the wireless NIC is connecting to the DIR-655 (e.g. it asks me for the WPA key), it can't pull an IP address, so there is no connection to the LAN or internet.

D-Link DAP-1522 :: To Work As Wireless Access Point To DIR-825

Jun 4, 2011

So just recently purchased the DIR-825 and DAP-1522.  At this point I just want to get the DAP-1522 to work as a wireless access point to my DIR-825.  So my wireless laptop would connect wirelessly to the DAP-1522 and the 1522 would go wireless to the router.  Pretty basic I guess.  I was planning on using the WAP to strengthen the 5 GHz signal to the router but again, at this point, I would be happy to get the 2.4 GHz working.

I've been working on this since last night and got frustrated and went to bed.  I woke up fresh and decided to try again and I'm not having making any headway.

DIR-825 is connected to my DSL modem and has no problem accessing the internet.  I can connect to either 2.4 or 5.0 directly from my laptop with no problem at all and have access to the internet.  Encryption is disabled.  It worked with encryption but I turned it off to troubleshoot this AP problem.

It should be simple but I must be doing something wrong.  BTW is there a way to scan for network devices from the router or the access point?  I tried discovering each device with the wireless setup button on each device but they don't recognize each other so I'm configuring this manually.

So the DAP has access point enabled and 802.11 is running in mixed mode.  I've tried different variations but nothing has worked.  I've tried 20 mhz and 20-40 auto mhz channels but same problem.  Wireless security is off for troubleshooting at the moment.

DHCP server is disabled and I've assigned the DAP an available ip from the router's dhcp range.  I can connect to the DAP both wirelessly and hard wired.  The problem is that it can't seem to connect to the router.  So my laptop can connect to the router and ha internet access.  And it can also connect to the DAP but does not have internet access.  The ip is showing auto configuration 169.x.x.x when connected to the DAP so I'm not getting an ip.  Is the router supposed to assign the ip to my laptop through the DAP?  But again, if the DAP can't communicate with the router, then that would explain why I can't get an IP.
