Cisco Wireless :: Migrate All Access Point Association From 4404 To 5508
Sep 17, 2012
In our current Setup we have one WLC 4404 with 100 Access point license, now we have bought 3 number of 5508 WLC each supporting 100 Access point. Our plan is to Migrate all the Access point assosiation from 4404 to 5508. [code]
I am currently running with code WCS wityh 10 4404 controllers across 3 sites.I am currently at code level 4.2.207, and actively employ Wireless VLAN Override.I understand that when I upgrade to code 6.0.202.0, that Wirelss VLAN Override is not available, and that I would need to configure Access Point groups.I can configure the groups, however I note a caution from: url...
Note: AP groups do not allow multicast roaming across group boundaries. AP groups allow APs on the same controller to map the same WLAN (SSID) to different VLANs. If a client roams between APs in different groups, the multicast session does not function properly because this is currently not supported. Currently, the WLC forwards multicast only for the VLAN configured on the WLAN and does not take into consideration VLANs configured in AP groups. We use Vocera here across all our sites, and Wireless VLAN Override works a treat, however I'm concerned I may come across problems with a roaming Vocera badge andAccess Point Groups - in that the badge may lose connectivity?
I have been noticing in my trap logs that there are an excessive amount of Client Association/Authentication Failures. I cannot figure out why. I have a Cisco 5508 WLC with 81 AP's (1131ag, 1142abgn, 1262N) models. The wireless devices are on a Windows Domain and use 802.1x EAP authentication, authenticating the user and computer info with a RADIUS Server. I look at the logs and all it can tell me is Reason:Unspecified ReasonCode:1. I read that the Reason Code is due to "Client associated but no longer authorized" but to be honest I am not sure what that means.
I have a 5508 at a remote site and a 5508 at my main campus. I was doing some work on the remote site's controller, so I changed option 43 on our DNS/DHCP system, then applied an LWAPP template from NCS to the AP's to migrate them to the controller at my main campus (so users could still utilize the wireless at the remote site). They all moved over to the temporary (main campus) controller without an issue.
When I was ready to migrate the AP's back to their local (remote site) controller - I changed option 43 for each sub net that contained AP's @ the remote site to point back to their local controller's management IP address, pushed an LWAPP template again (pointing it to the local controller obviously) and apply template/reboot AP.
The AP reboots, disassociates from the main campus (temporary) controller, but when it comes back up a few minutes later - it associates BACK to the main campus controller it was on instead of to the remote site/local controller like option 43, the LWAAP template (and my frustrated screams) are now telling it to. I'm certain I'm just missing something.
I am planning to migrate from an old 4400 to a new 5508. I am happy with migrating the access points but I need to know if I can migrate the web authentication certificate used for guests. The new WLC will have the same virtual interface and DNS name to match the CN on the current certificate. Will this work or will I need a new certificate?
We have a 5508 WLC with a few WAP's (1131's and 1242's). Our wireless clients use certificate base authentication against our AD (i.e. both computer cert and user cert are required). However, from time to time I see clients being associated but not authenticated as reported by the WLC. Could it be possible, as some literatures indicate that a client can only be "associated" after it's successfully authenticated? Perhaps I'm not quite clear about the concept.
each time that for what ever reason my access point goes down(not that my access point resets by itself, if i have to move it), the setting in the vlan mapping resets to whatever my native vlan is, in this case 30.
I am running WLC 5508 and WCS version 7.0.98. We are noticing with some of our handheld devices that have Sychip Wireless cards that they constantly have issues communicating. The error I see on the WCS side is shown below:
Client '00:0b:6c:2f:d0:32 (0.0.0.0)' failed to associate with interface '802.11b/g' of AP 'HO-BRSales'. The reason code is '0(null)'.
I moved 1242 access point to my new buliding which i have 5508 wlc and 3500 acess point are working. i connected 1242 ap in network it got registered and download new ios and downlaoded the configuration and working fine. But i open the WLC tha 1242 ap are not visible in ap list.
Subject: FlexConnect compatibility with Access Point? We have today one Cisco 5508 and those access point on remote sites
o CISCO AIR-LAP-1131AG-E-K9 o CISCO AIR-LAP-1231G-E-K9 o CISCO AIR-LAP-1142N-E-K9
We plan to use redundancy on the controller and implement Flexconnect on the remote site. What we need to know is if I can implement Flexconnect on all actual access point - I think it is possible on 1142N + 1131G but do not know on 1231AG - is it correct or I'm wrong ? We plan to install the latest SW version for 5508 controller.
I have problems with an AP AIR-CAP1552C-E-K9 (MAC: 2c:36:f8:73:e8:a0 )this AP cannot join to WLC 5508 software version 7.2.110.0.The AP ever gets associated to WLC.
I saw timeout messages and this error message:
%CAPWAP-3-ECHO_ERR: capwap_ac_sm.c:5656 Did not receive heartbeat reply; AP: 2c:36:f8:73:e8:a0
I don´t see any connectivity issues between the AP and WLC thorugh HFC network. One time the AP join to WLC and I saw this messages in debug CAPWAP:

I have 50 WAP connected to a WLC 5508. When I backup the config I don't see the custom settings I put in some WAP. Where are the WAP settings saved at ?
I have Cisco AIR-LAP1310G-E-K9 access point and 5508 wlan controller with version 7.0.220 and it is joining to the WLAN controller. I have enabled dhcp in the lan controller and i dont have external dns server. How to fix this issue? Can this LAN controller version will support this access point? My Lan Controller Management IP Address is 10.10.10.5 find the below configuration of 1300 access point.

I have the wireless controller 5508 and many AP1261 registered on site. It detects a lot of rogue access points around. I would like to find out geographic location of these rogue access points. Is it possible?
i have a wlc 5508 and 40 access point 1141n there are 1500 users connected with this controller 5508. but when i ping at my gateway ,there is a disturbance in the temp response. [code]
web authenticate users within a specific Active Directory Security Group. I tried to authenticate over Radius with Cisco Secure ACS and Network Access Restrictions. But NAR only works with Layer 2 authentication. And Web Authentication over LDAP can only be used with User Objects.
I know there were a few post about users losing their access point config after a power loss to the ap. I wanted to share that I can confirm and reproduce this same issue with a number of access points that I have. I opened a tac case and will update this tread as the case progresses.
I know that the 3600 series APs are not supported on the 4404 WLC. However, would the following scenario be supported? I would like to use the 4404 (software rel. 7.0) as a guest anchor with a 5508 (software release 7.2) as the foreign controller supporting series 3600 APs. I ask because the APs do not need to join the guest anchor.
How would I bridge a wireless connection with a distance of 400 feet? Would twoAP1262N-A-K9 be able to make this happen? Or is there another wireless bridge that you all can think of?I would be connecting one AP1262 of off a 3750g switch and at the far end (400 ft aproximately) another AP1262N-A-K9.
I had a new AIR-AP1042N-N-K9 access point and I tried to convert it into lightweight mode with the image c1140-rcvk9w8-tar.124-21a.JA2.tar . I used all the methods but the AP is getting hanged at one position after decompressing the new IOS. The capture of the process is below: [code] After this I am getting the junk characters and everytime AP hangs at this position.
We have recently upgraded the software on our two WLC 4404 from software release 4.0.xxx to 4.2.xxx to 6.1.199.4 and lastly to version 7.0.98.0.
We could access the WLC's GUI's using https when it was on version 4.0.xxx. When we did the upgrades from version 4.2.xxx to 6.1.199.4 we couldn't access the Admin page through https anymore but only through normal http. We enabled https through the GUI and through the CLI and we did do the re-generation certificate , without any success. We then upgraded to version 7.0.98.0 and we still have the same result , cannot access Admin GUI through https.
We recently acquired a 4404 Cisco controller for our network and have been adding our 1200 and 1130 Access points to the controller. This was accomplished by upgrading the APs to LWAPP and then they would automatically be discovered by the controller and then join. Lately, new 1131 APs that have undergone the same process, are not joining the controller. They are discovered but then the close the connection. We are running a flat network so all devices are in the same subnet.Software Version of the controller 6.0.188.0. [code]
If the 2600 series access points are compatible with a 4404 controller running 7.0.235.3 code? I was looking for a compatibilty matrix for the AP to controller to code comparison but couldn't find one.
How do I connect and configure my WAP54G wireless access point to my new Cable Modem? I have it connected to the modem but I cannot access it to configure it. It appears to be working but before I got the cable modem I had it connected to a router and it was set-up with a static IP address. With my new ISP, I no longer have a static IP address so I am trying to configure the WAP54G to use DHCP. Trying to access it thru the internet at 192.168.1.245 does not work.
I just bought an LG Bluray DVD player (BD390) which is unable to find the access point in my home network. My router is a WRT54G, ver. 2.2, running firmware: Ver.4.21.1. My home network uses high speed cable with two computers on the wireless network, all working with no problems. The router is on the second floor but the two computers and the new BD390 are on the first floor - about 35 feet away. I have the wirelss security set to none and use only the specific computer MAC addresses to allow connection to this network.
I found directions in the forum for a setup using the LG BD390 but with a different Linksys router. I changed the security to WPA (AES); the Beacon interval from 100 to 75; the Fragmentation Threshold from 2346 to 2304; and the RTS Threshold from 2347 to 2307. The DVD wireless connection still failed to find my network. There is a "Push button" connection feature on the BD390 setup which I tried, but the only "button" on the router I could find was in the basic wireless setting, a green icon for the wireless SSID setup. No connection was made there either.
The recommendation connection from the LG manual is for a network cable, but that would be over 50 feet and a real pain to connect, so I would prefer WiFi.
Had some problems with the association of the MSE with the WCS.Licenses already loaded context aware and WCS-PLUSThe two machines are within the same network segment WCS (10.16.0.28) and MSE (10.16.0.89), including IP connectivity exists and which tests ping. When I do a / etc / init.d / mse status throws me the following error:

I have a WAP54g hardware version 1.0.I install de last firmware on this access-point but, this access-point reset automatic after a random time..It’s it possible to downgrade de firmware from this access-point?
Have a WRT320N router at one end of the house in the basement. Would like to boost signal to other end of the house. Which product should i use, an access point or a range extender? My house is also wired with Ethernet cable and I could plug the access point into an Ethernet port at the end of the house where the signal is weak.
