Cisco Wireless :: AIR-CAP2602I-E-K9 Configure SNMP From WLC 5508?
Jun 11, 2013
How are certain settings/config transfered across to the AP's from the WLC, e.g. username and passwords, snmp strings etc.... I assume this is when the AP joins the WLC.More to the topic of the original question I had in mind, is it possible and if so, how? - to configure snmp read and write string from the WLC and push this config out to AP's. I can't believe someone will have to sit down (me) and SSH to 150+ AP's per WLC to configure SNMP.
One of the buildings lost connectivity to the WLC's breifly a couple of days ago and all seemed to have lost their SNMP settings. Connectivity was restored, but couldnt poll the APs. When I SSH'd on to a couple of AP's, and manually configured the snmp-server community xxxx ro - SNMP started working again. Since there are many, there must be an easier way of doing it.I've tried resetting the AP from the WLC and also powering down AP's and bringing them back up.
Using WLC 5508 on 7.4.100

I'm configuring AIR-CAP2602I-E-K9 out of the box, literally, and I want to configure it with a static address. I paste in the following commands. [code]After the host name line is pasted in I get "ERROR!!! Command is disabled" but the rest of the commands are accepted. I do a sh capwap ip config and the get the output below which looks like that config has been taken but why not my hostname? [code] I know or hoping that the APs will contact the wireless controller since I've the ip in there for it. It just means I'll be renaming all the APs, all 18 of them!

We had a system outage due to power problems a few days ago, and now our WLC is showing short term packet loss when monitoring it using SNMP. We also monitor it using ICMP, but that shows no packet loss. I looked at the interface statistics on the WLC and all of the switches in between and there are no errors to be seen. is there any way to troubleshoot this problem on the WLC? I am more familiar with IOS than the WLC CLI.

We faced one recent issue with WLC configuration behavior and explaining our observation and workaround we did.Requirement is to manage the WLC (5508 with 7.4 code) using two SNMP managers in different locations. Also these two Servers should use the same community string to manage WLC.
We were able to configure the SNMP community string for one server IP (to allow access) through GUIWhile trying to add another Server – IP with same community string – it didn’t allow As per the configuration guide, Controller can use only one IP address range to manage SNMP community. So we cannot configure the same community string to allow only two different server IP addresses [code] We currently configured the major subnet ( 10.x / 8 - two match both server addresses) and it works fineAlso when we tried 0.0.0.0 / 0.0.0.0 , it didn’t work (SNMP was failing)But this creates a security issue wherein anybody can poll the WLC.

I am working on a wlc 5508 in a lab environment doing snmp reporting & i was wondering if there is anyway to after the timing on how quick the snmp traps appear on the trap log page? I have looked through the gui but cant seem to find anything, so not too sure if there is a cli command, the traps come in very quickly on the nms way before they appear on the trap log page.

I am using web authentication with my Wlc 5508 and I would like to check all users currently connected (ip, login used, MAC address, ...) with SNMP.
I am using an external web server and my client are authenticated with ldap.
I know I can receive these information with traps, but I would like to create a short program which will check all users when I click on a button.

how snmp monitoring works when we have WLC in the networking. Before the WLC 5508 instalation, we had the Nagios monitoring each Access Point in the networking. Today, the Nagios still monitoring the networking, but the Nagios cannot get the same information of the APs (CPU, status interface, memory, etc). Now, the WLC controls each AP, the IP address, netmask, community (of all AP) are the same before the WLC instalation. I have tried to configure the SNMP information in Management>>SNMP>>Communities, but these configuration are from WLC and not from each AP.
How can I configure the SNMP setting in my AP to still use the Nagios to monitoring the networking?

how to configure SNMP on the Cisco SG300 switches? I have the SG300-10P. I am not fully familiar with the new command line interface on this device, it was easy on the IOS but finding it a nightmare on this one.
I put the following command in but it didnt work.
snmp-server view Interfaces interfaces included
snmp-server community ACB123 ro 10.x.x.x view default
I tried to follow the guidelines on the cisco website but thats all Web interface based, i can only access the switch remotely via CLI.

Is there a way to send an SNMP trap form the ASA when port 80 is trying to be accessed??
We use the ASA5510 and also use ScanSafe Web Security. Web Security is great but we find ourselves worrying if user has edited their Browser connection settings to remove the proxy settings that we push down using Group Policy. We also cut off the users ability to make changes to those settings but it interferes when I need to troubleshoot a special program that cant use a proxy server. It just makes it harder for me. The other thing is that Group Policy only works for IE. Google Chrome will inherit the system settings in IE. So we have Safari and Firefox as well as a lot of others to worry about not getting the configuration. There is also debate about limitting the use of anything but IE and FireFox.
Without laying down the law and getting all sorts of hate mail and death threats I would like to run ScanSafe in such a way as to make sure each user receives the Group Policy settings and that is all.
I would now like to just set up an SNMP trap on the ASA for ANY traffic that is trying to get to port 80. Either get in in my syslog server or have the asa email me directly. Scansafe sends the Internet traffic out on 8080 to the Proxy towers.
I could block port 80 outbound but again, I limit my ability to troubleshoot on the fly. I would have to break this every time I need to troubleshoot.

And if i put inside wireless--> hight avaliabilty--primary ip and secondary ip .Again do i need to configure those WLAN , AP GROUPS , everythink in this WLC sepretely or any option . If i need to create the group do i need to select the ap's which already added to primary wlc groups.

Is there any way to configure a wired guest network with a combination of 5508 and 2504 wireless controllers? I am aware that the 2504 does not have wired guest functionality, however is it possible to set up a wired guest on the 5508 and using mobility anchors, transmit the l2 information through eoip to communicate with the remote vlan?Home built NAC solution, using 802.1x authentication on switchports for public areas. If user is an employee, communicates with the supplicant on their machine, and places them on an internal vlan.If user is a guest, user fails 802.1x check and is placed on a "guest" vlan with an ACL and external DNS.If placed on the guest vlan, the user has to accept a terms of use form. This is working currently with our 5508s without any issue, however we have some remote offices we'd like to roll this out to that are using 2504 controllers. I'm hoping there's a way that I can use the 5508 as an anchor or vice versa to make this work.

We are using unified wireless with a mix of 5508 and wism controllers. I am able to authenticate windows devices against active directory via the acs but can't seem to get anything working with the phones.

How to, for the most part, setup 802.1x via wireless. I'm using two 5508 WLCs, and Cisco ACS. I will setup the user account/password information via Cisco ACS and User Identity and Hosts. I know from the WLC 5508 web admin tool that I can choose 802.1x in the security parameters. I only have a few question. We have two wireless networks, one is wide open and provides internet access, the other will provide internal access for select users. I am setting up 802.1x on the internal wireless lan. Do I need to configure any 802.1 configuration commands on the switch in order for this to work, if so where would be the locations to do this at? Also, if there is a MAC isolation configuration option I can configure to not allow other hosts on this specific wireless network to communicate with each other?

I'm trying to do configuration archiving in Prime Infrastructure 1.2 with a 5508 WLC (7.4).The job always fails (Admin -> Background Jobs) with the following error (see attachement):"SNMP: Failed to establish SNMP connection xxxx - Cause: Device is Unreachable. Check the ReadOnly community string." I double checked the SNMP credentials, they do match. For testing I also added a Public community just for the PI. Same result.Am I missing something? Is this not intended for Wireless Controllers?

after upgrading the firmware on the wireless lan controller 5.2.178.0 on my cisco 4402 wlc's and rebooted the devices, I am getting matches on the audit status between whats on the contoller and the wcs software. so i am trying to apply whats in the wcs templates created for the controller and i am getting this error.
SNMP operation to Device failed: Attempt to set conflicting attribute value
I am thinking that i need to rebooted the wlc's again because from the error it sounds like the values that i am trying to write to the controllers are already present

I want to be able to send snmp traps to my NMS alerting our NOC to when we reach our configured max-associations on an ap. We currently use both 1130 AG and 1140-2N in autonomous mode, no controller. I have found a debug command "debug dot11 station connection failure" and the output of a test AP shows us the fact that the maximum number was reached. I need to find if it is possible to trap on such information.

Now I'm trying to write software that get information from Syslog message, but I'm facing with the problem about getting statistic of client de-authenticated in a WLC (Software Version: 7.0.98.0), because I cannot find any log about this information on WLC except only this SNMP trap:
Tue Aug 23 09:52:28 2011Client Deauthenticated: MACAddress:00:xx:77:2c:06:db Base Radio MAC:00:xx:5d:0c:fc:30 Slot: 0 User Name: unknown Ip Address: 10.2xx.47.15 Reason:Unspecified ReasonCode: 1
So, is there any way that I can configure WLC to convert this SNMP trap to send to Syslog server as a normal Syslog message?

We're looking for a biz-class router with some service-growth potential. Initially, a wired backbone will be deployed, followed by longer-range Wi-Fi, as far as 400 ft. I'm considering the E4200V2 for deployment in this medium-sized biz environment, but I want SNMP support. Is the E4200V2 a suitable choice? Several reviews have been favorable, but I find no mention of SNMP implementation.

Any chance of one or preferably both of these before I flash the router to a more competent firmware?Rather ridiculous that there's no interface counters and no SNMP server. I prefer keeping stock firmware where possible but I need this functionality, it really isn't a big ask. That said I have an E4200 v1, which already looks like abandonware given it's been 6 months since the last firmware update - not amused and no intention of swapping a high performance router for one that sacrifices performance for better NAS functionality.
