Cisco Switching/Routing :: Catalyst 2960-S Stacking Connection
Apr 11, 2012 I followed the 3-switch Redundant stacking diagram and now when I boot up the stack Switch 2 is acutally Member 3 and Switch 3 is Member 2.
We plan on having Port-Channels spanning across Switch 1 - Master and Switch 2 (Member 3) of identical port types. Switch 3 (Member 2) is going to have 2 10GIG port channel created.
Is there going to be a problem renumbering the stack as they physically sit or should I just configure the devices based on thier logical member numbers.
I don't understand why the stack connection is Switch 1 - 1 ----> Switch 2 -1
Switch 2 - 2 ----> Switch 3- 1
Switch 3 - 2 ----> Switch 1 - 2

I know that LAN Base can only stack with other LAN Base switches.
Can IP Base stack with IP services in 3750X? I have also heard that the 15.x.x IOS restricts mixed feature set stacks?
I know that Cisco recommends that all switches in a stack have the same IOS and feature set but having all IP Services in a stack can get too expensive.

Our 3750X is currently running 15.0(2)SE C3750E-UNIVERSALK9-M and I believe we were told you can't stack with a Universal IOS image. We have the universal on there because we have some 10GB fiber connections on it that Cisco told us wouldn't work otherwise.
I realize that the switch versions need to match, but the question is, which version should we work off to have use of the 10GB SFP card?

Mar 30, 2013I am having troubles to get 2 C3750-X switches WS-C3750-X-48P-L) to stack. They are both running iOS 15.0(2)-UNIVERSALK9, and are licensed for IP Base.
If I connect stack port 1 of switch 1 to stack port 2 of switch 1, and stack port 1 of switch 2to stack port 2 of switch 2 I get the following:

I have tried restarting (powering off for about 1 min and turning back on) simultaneously, and powering off switch 1 for 1 min and switch 2 for 2 min. I have also tried both enabling the stack ports, and disabling followed by enabling.

Sep 11, 2012I discovered on a pair of SG300-28P.
On a second switch (ver 1.2.7.76) when I unplugged the power cord, to my amazement the switch turned right back on (about 1 second later), with the power cord removed. To verify that the power is indeed coming from POE, the upstream switch (ver 1.1.2.0) that is the same model (sg-300-28p), shows all 7 Ethernet ports connecting the two drawing from 2700mW, to 3000mW.
While the second switch is powered from the first over POE, the POE does not work on the second switch to power anything, and the system summary mentions something about "PoE Power Information on Master Unit".
Is this a stacking operation, and is POE on the second switch NOT supposed to work when powered over Ethernet from an upstream switch?

Dec 20, 2012I am trying to resolve a situation where we need to send multiple (2 atleast) multicast feeds from a source to our multilayer switch (3560x).
The problem with the source is that it can only send a feed to a single switch at a given time. It can not send 2 (identical) feeds to two 3560x devices (on 2 different subnets/vlans). I was wondering if i could make the two 3560x devices appear as 1 device (using virtual chassis system or a similar feature). I am running ip services IOS feature set (c3560e-universalk9-mz.122-58.SE2.bin).

May 12, 2013I am installing a network that has two SG500X-24 switches as core and several SG300-52 switches as access switches. I've seen in the SG500X-24 datasheet that there is a True Stacking feature. But in the data sheet there are not a lot of details about it. My doubt is the following. If I configure the two SG500X-24 switches as a single switch through stacking them, can I connect one SG300-52 switch to these two SG500X-24 switches through two cables (both configured as a LAG in the SG300-52 and in the SG500X-24 stack, one cable per SG500X-24), the the first cable connected to the first SG500X-24 switch and the second cable connected to the second SG500X-24 switch and keep both connections active?
