Linksys Cable / DSL :: X2000 Router / Modem Only Gives Local Access?
Jun 4, 2012I've never setup a router before, but when I tried to setup this one it required me to put in the isp ip, subnet, gateway, and dns. I assumed that this was not my ip but the ip of zoomtown which when i looked at the old routers info i figured this was the ip under the configurations summary that said wan ip, perhpaps i was wrong, i'm not sure but this ip info is static it does not change , but I believe the individual computers ip addresses use dhcp and are not static.

Oct 23, 2012My X2000 modem connect only with small speeds Kbps, it's very weak than Linksys WAG54GP2 MBPS. If I put laptop near the modem speed doesn't change.Only change occurs when I change the channel. But it speed down after a while.I set, N connection, security is WPA-personal, tried some different channel, connection 20-40mhz, update the firmware (there is no problem with laptop, with another modem I can connect with 150kb/s speed) And, if I choose auto setup, security change to WPA, If I'm not wrong.

Nov 26, 2011I just set up the x2000 at my home Everything seems to be working fine. However, when trying to connect my play station 3. I get upnp not available when I run the internet connection test. With that, i am not able to connect to Modern Warfare 3 online. Haven't tried other games yet but i sign in to the play station network without any problems.
I have Upnp enabled on my router. I have tried port range forwarding and DMZ settings to my ps3. and still not working.

Nov 27, 2011Just set-up a new X2000, loaded latest firmware 2.0.01, configured it via the web UI ('Browser based utility' as per the manual). Connected OK to my ADSL broadband by O2. Configured wireless, everything OK. Funny it doesn't need a user name, only a password, my prevoius WAG160N could be configured for both.Now I want to configure the Parental Controls, BUT apart from my computer name and an Android phone name, all I see in the Target Device ADD button pop-up are a list of repeated 'Network Device'. There seems no way to be able to distinguish which is which device (mix of XP & Win 7 PC's and HP Printer through a separate switch), as it does not show IP address or MAC.
I thought I may have better luck with the Cisco Connect software (which I didn't use to set-up the router). I downloaded the latest version 1.4.11194.0, and ran this on another computer with wireless. Apart from reconfiguring my static IP address to DHCP, and then connecting through DHCP, the software said it could not configure my router. So it never gets to a point where it installs any program on the computer so that I can configure Parental Controls. How do I get the router to show ALL the computer names in the list rather than 'Network Device' or is there a way to distinguish which 'Network Device' is which computer?

I have done all the troubleshooting with Comcast and with Motorola and it is out of warranty, so I will have to purchase a new one.In the mean time, I wanted to use it only as a wireless router connected to my Scientific Atlanta DPC2100R2 modem. Is there anyway to do this? Is there a way to disable the modem in the SBG901? Simply connecting with the ethernet cords has not worked. I connected the DPC2100 to the SBG901 via ethernet cord. My computer was able to pick up a wireless connection but there is no cable connection.

Jul 15, 2012I recently installed a Cisco X2000. Several PCs running Windows XP Pro connect wirelessly. Also, we have an Android device and iPhone connected to the wireless network. We have a network printer and network drive connected via wires to the router. Most of the time the router and cable modem features work well. However, every so often all devices lose wireless signal simultaneously. It is not possible to reconnect to the X2000 unless I unplug the X2000 and plug it back in. After this reboot, we can connect again. Obviously, this is quite frustrating. By the way, we get acceptable signal strength after the X2000 locks out however none of the devices (computers or phones) are able to connect.

Feb 28, 2013i just bought a Netgear WNDR4000 router due to troubles with my current modem/router combo (D-Link DSL2730-B). The router doesnt have in built modem functionality obviously so I need to set up the modem/router as a dedicated modem.Also should I use the current modem/router as the dedicated modem or an older model i own (I think its a DSL 502T)? Because the current one often drops the internet connection. Don't know if its a problem with the modem functionality or something else. Will the older one serve better since i didn't have any problems with that one or will it be outdated? I only upgraded due it not having wireless capabilities. Otherwise it's fine.Or will I be even better off buying a dedicated modem? I really don't want to spend more money but if this is a far better alternative I guess i will.
EDIT: Ok so found out that I have to put the modem/router in bridge mode in order for this to be possible. However, looking up how to do this lead me to a dead end because i need to fill in some fields that i have no idea how to interpret.

Dec 1, 2012Just picked up a X2000 and Cisco connect configured my connection, and assigned an IP to my desktop pc.I configured my PC back to a Static IP which is outside the DHCP range in the X2000, and all seems to be working ok..now looking in the web-based X2000 setup screen my pc is no longer listed as a client...so should I manually add it as a client and assign the IP & MAC address in the Cisco setup or is this not necesary.?

Feb 1, 2012I installed my new X2000 a couple of days ago and my ADSL connection drops several times a day. Sometimes it will stay connected for a few minutes and other times it will stay connected for several hours. The only way to get it connected again is to reboot.I have used 2 other routers (D-Link DIR-300 and BT Home Hub 3.0) on the same line and haven't had any disconnection issues with them, so the problem must be a hardware/software fault on this router or I have set it up incorrectly.Judging by a number of posts I found online, there seems to be a general problem with DSL connections dropping on the X2000, especially on earlier firmware versions. I have subsequently upgraded to the latest firmware (Ver.2.0.01 (Build 4)), reset and reconfigured twice, but nothing has worked so far.Unless I can get this working in the next few days I am going to have to return it, which is a shame because the performance of the router is great when it's working!Would someone be able check I have configured the DSL settings on the router correctly?

So I live in Ireland and im on Smart telecom ISP, Basicly the internet is half going - like skype is going and i can chat with my contacts, cisco.com page is going but really SLOW, google.com page is going until search, speedtest.net page is going until the mesure thing facebook loads like in 10min.. a lot of pages dosent even go...From main telephone socket to the router is only 2.5m telephone cable(NO HOME PHONE) so no splitter or extension... (Changing the MTU dosent change anything...only if i set it on auto then w7 shows that internet is connected, skype works but no pages at all is loading and is dropping with timeout error.. if i set to manual then something loads on pages...) The cisco connect software does NOT do good because I can go until the username/pasword step, I input THE CORRECT details but he just sayes that he cant authenticate the username & pasw... and so i cant get past that step and the programm is no good.... only way is to set up with 192.168.1.1!

Sep 18, 2011I run a X2000 router for some weeks and it works properly basically - with one exception.WIFI attached devices (Win7, Vista, Android) can go to the internet without having any problem. But they cannot access my local servers (Media-Server, Storage server). I access with normal settings (not the guest) but the behavior is similar to what I expected from the guest-WIFI: protect resources in LAN.Anyway, for historical reason I have also another WIFI Hotspot in the LAN what is connected to the X2000 via cable. If the same devices connect to this hotspot, everything works fine. So the problem isn't caused by the servers.
