Cisco Wireless :: Linksys X2000 - Internet Connectivity Goes Down Many Times
May 26, 2012
I have a Linksys X2000 modem. Why does my internet go down several times a day? My provider is Century Link and I have already called them. They say all is well on their end, so it must be my modem. I reset and sometimes it pops right back and other times it takes an hour or more.

I have a problem with an internet connection with a customer. They have a Zyxel 660 in bridge mode and the public ip is delivered to the eth0/0 outside interface of a 5505 ASA.They lose internet connectivity a couple of times per hour. What solves the problem immediately is disconnecting the ethernet cable from the eth0/0 and then directly plugging it back. Then it runs for 20-30 minutes or so.The isp doesnt't notice any errors on the dsl connection, only that they cannot ping the outside interface from time to time (duhhh)However, yesterday, when problem appeared for first time , I noticed that this Zyxel was very hot since it was placed on top of the ASA. Now it is set apart. In the meantime I already replaced all cables, but I think it's the Zyxel so I urged that the ISP send a new Zyxel.Though it sounds strange. [code]

I check all of the settings and changed the channel to see if it works. For some reason it disconnects my wireless internet at random times and i know before it never use to do that before with a older router. There is nothing blocking it, it worked before, and my computers can connect except two. The only thing i can guess is my wireless card.

I started using E4200 few months ago. It used to have frequent disconnection with E4200 when it's running on router mode back then. After playing with the MTU from 1492 (recommended by ISP) to 1364, it's seems to be quite ok until recently. It is getting worst than before. It disconnect my internet almost few times in 5 minutes.

So its the 3rd day of my nightmare to set up this cisco ADSL router...
Status:
Setup:
DSL connection:
So I live in Ireland and im on Smart telecom ISP, Basicly the internet is half going - like skype is going and i can chat with my contacts, cisco.com page is going but really SLOW, google.com page is going until search, speedtest.net page is going until the mesure thing facebook loads like in 10min.. a lot of pages dosent even go...From main telephone socket to the router is only 2.5m telephone cable(NO HOME PHONE) so no splitter or extension... (Changing the MTU dosent change anything...only if i set it on auto then w7 shows that internet is connected, skype works but no pages at all is loading and is dropping with timeout error.. if i set to manual then something loads on pages...) The cisco connect software does NOT do good because I can go until the username/pasword step, I input THE CORRECT details but he just sayes that he cant authenticate the username & pasw... and so i cant get past that step and the programm is no good.... only way is to set up with 192.168.1.1!

I recently purchased at Linksys X2000 Router/dsl modem, I ran the setup and everything works fine except for when I am trying to play games online with one device and surf the web on another device it keeps kicking one or both devices offline, but if only one of them is on it works fine.I have AT&T dsl and I have checked all my setting and the router was setup by linksys Cisco Connect program but it still gives me this issue. Is there anything I can do to fix this? My old WRT54G Router and AT&T dsl modem did not have this problem.

I just installed the X2000 and managed to get my Win7 Home Premium to connected to the Internet and also one wireless device. I previously had just a modem. Sometimes, when my PC is up and running, I want to disconnect it from the Internet and later connect again. There is an icon on the lower right of my toolbar which, with my old modem, allowed me to connect and disconnect but it seems to know only about the old modem. Basically it operated by starting the sequence: All Control Panel Items>Network Connections>Broadband Connection. Now this function does work; it tries to connect (through "WAN Miniport (PPPOE)") and gets "Error 651: The modem (or other connecting device) has reported an error". Can you tell me what where is the program that seems to start the Internet connection for the X2000 and if I can change parameters for the Win7 "Broadband Connection" to use the X2000? Perhaps the parameter "Connect on Demand" in the "Basic Setup" of the X2000 is involved?

I have configured my e4200 to block traffic at certian times uses both the Parental Controls and the Intenet Access Polices. Neither one seems to work though. [code] I have the same MAC addresses specified in each rule. Initally I had only the first two rules. Those didn't work, so I added rule 3 and 4 (they do the same thing as rules 1 and 2 but from the opposite direction). There are no compliaints, but they don't stop any traffic.
I started with the Parental Controls, they didn't work either. The page in there that lets you pick which machines you want to block seemed next to worthless. I have about four rows listed as "Network Device." REALLY LAME! As the MAC addresses are accesible and these weren't working I went to the IAP.

We use our internet to watch Netflix. We have had no problems until recently, I called the satellite Internet company(which is a local co.) they told me my router was going out. I bought a new one, problem solved, my husband told me my neighbor just got Internet and has been playing Xbox everyday which coincidently is between the 5:30pm to 10ish pm we have been having issues with our router. What can we do to fix this? Do I have to buy a bigger router?

My house was in the middle of a lightning storm today while I was out and I came back to no internet. Figgured it was just the phone lines down, but connectiong directly to the modem I found I had connectivity. The WRT54GL (flashed with DD-WRT) doesn't pick up the WAN IP, I've checked with multiple ethernet cables, 2 different modems (all of which work fine with our computers, providing connectivity) and am currently using the router that the WRT54GL displaced ~8 years ago. I'm assuming it's just dead, but wanted a second opinion... kinda odd that a surge would have come through the phone line, through a DSL modem and killed the WAN port of the router instead of taking out the modem?

I have an EA4500 router. It's the latest in a long line of Linksys routers I've owned and I'm pretty familiar with setting one up and making changes. But the EA4500 seems a bit more picky than previous routers. Last night I tried to enable port forwarding for ports 53, 80, and 88 for my xbox. I already had port 3074 forwarded. When I did that and applied the change, I lost all Internet connectivity. I tried cycling the power on the router with no luck. I finally got connected again by going to 192.168.1.1 and disabled those ports. The status page then said I had Internet connectivity but I really didn't at least right away. It took a couple minutes before I was actually able to to connect to the Internet again. What else should I check when it says I don't have internet connectivity?

i am thinking of buying Linksys x2000 , WAG160N or any other you suggest to use as a wireless access point. Is it possible? My setup is : I get my internet from my neighbor by ethernet cable from his router. My house is two-storied and ethernet cable comes to top left corner of first floor and the devices(two notebook) are on the bottom right corner at the second floor , insulation greatly reduces the signal strength.

The issue is that one Dell laptop is experiencing slow or no internet connectivity at all using wireless. Sometimes 1 to 2 minutes to load a page, other times the dreaded 'not able to display webpage' message. It's fine using Ethernet. I have another laptop (same exact brand/model) and it has no problems. I also have a Macbook Pro and other Apple IOS devices (iPod/iPads) that are fine. Several Ethernet connected devices are fine as well. The laptop in question had no issues with my previoius Linksys devices, which are a BEFSR41/WAP55AG as well as a WRT-54GS v2. This one laptop was fine the first day or two on the EA4500 but something happened which is causing this issue. I had to add the WAP55AG back onto my network so my son is happy again, but my plan was to decommission the other devices. I recently installed a Cisco X2000. Several PCs running Windows XP Pro connect wirelessly. Also, we have an Android device and iPhone connected to the wireless network. We have a network printer and network drive connected via wires to the router. Most of the time the router and cable modem features work well. However, every so often all devices lose wireless signal simultaneously. It is not possible to reconnect to the X2000 unless I unplug the X2000 and plug it back in. After this reboot, we can connect again. Obviously, this is quite frustrating. By the way, we get acceptable signal strength after the X2000 locks out however none of the devices (computers or phones) are able to connect.

Just set-up a new X2000, loaded latest firmware 2.0.01, configured it via the web UI ('Browser based utility' as per the manual). Connected OK to my ADSL broadband by O2. Configured wireless, everything OK. Funny it doesn't need a user name, only a password, my prevoius WAG160N could be configured for both. Now I want to configure the Parental Controls, BUT apart from my computer name and an Android phone name, all I see in the Target Device ADD button pop-up are a list of repeated 'Network Device'. There seems no way to be able to distinguish which is which device (mix of XP & Win 7 PC's and HP Printer through a separate switch), as it does not show IP address or MAC.
I thought I may have better luck with the Cisco Connect software (which I didn't use to set-up the router). I downloaded the latest version 1.4.11194.0, and ran this on another computer with wireless. Apart from reconfiguring my static IP address to DHCP, and then connecting through DHCP, the software said it could not configure my router. So it never gets to a point where it installs any program on the computer so that I can configure Parental Controls. How do I get the router to show ALL the computer names in the list rather than 'Network Device' or is there a way to distinguish which 'Network Device' is which computer?

Basically, my wireless internet has been disconnecting then reconnecting on weekends up to 50+ times a day. The weekend also seems to be the time when I have 10+ wireless connections in range. Can that be the cause of it? I have tried changing my router channels but to no avail.

I originally began with a WRT610N(basically the old version of the new E3000). I had been using it for a couple months, when all of a sudden I was stuck with the power light flashing, meaning the firmware was corrupted. I contacted support & they guided me through the process of trying to restore the firmware through using the tftp.exe program with no luck. Unfortunately at the time this happened, the E3000 was just being released, so they stated it could be close to a month to get a replacement WRT610N! So I decided to just go grab an E3000 from BestBuy, as I had some unused giftcards for there. I bought the E3000 & used it for literally 2 weeks, then the exact same problem! Power light flashing, firmware corrupted. Again I tried to restore the firmware with no luck. I should mention, each time I tried pinging the router after setting a static IP it resulted in a 100% packet loss, meaning the router was not even communicating with my PC. So with it being within the 30 day period, I just went & swapped it for a new one. Went and swapped for another, so I am now on my 3rd E3000 in less than a month! What could be causing this? I notice the router does get fairly hot, but i have it in a well ventilated area, so not sure what more I can do about that. This is supposed to be the highest end LinkSys router out there & I continue to have major issues with each of them. Now I do pull a lot of data through it. I have a NAS, 3 PC's, PlayStation3, Xbox 360, Wii, iPad, multiple notebooks, etc. on a 18Mbps Comcast cable connection. But shouldn't this thing handle high amounts of data? I mean it's the highest end router LinkSys makes, so what do I need to do? Buy a true Cisco router for $1,000 for home use?

I have an EA3500 that I installed recently to replace an old NetGear Router, everything works fine like a charm and suddenly is like the router goes down, both wired and wireless connections go down, no connection at all to the router, no internet, no nothing, the power stays on, but you can see the Leeds on the back blinking like when you do a reboot, then after a couple minutes everything comes back again, till the next drop...it happens several times a day, sometimes 3 to five times in an hour, some other times just happen 2 or 3 times a day... I have tried everything possible, changing the settings, factory defaults, firmware upgrade and roll back, MTU, different channels, even different power outlets to no avail.I wonder is I have a lemon, the worse part is I can't return to the store since the UPC code is gone (rebate) and links says they can't take it back as RMA.

I am considering buying the new router with the new wireless ac ability, but wanted to ask a couple questions first.1. If I have the router bridge combo that utilizes the 5 mghz bandwidth, but also have older devices that run only on the 2.4 ghz frequency, will the router work both frequencies or will it change to 2.4 only? Like with mixed N that has a device that is g.2. Will all my older devices work without upgrading wireless cards?3. If I use the bridge in a seperate room, approximately 30 feet away with 1 wall in between should my speeds stay pretty high?I am planning to get the special they are offering for the 6500 plus the bridge, that gives the 50 dollar debt card, not sure of bridgemod3l number but think only one Iis available in that deal. So sick of my wrt330n needing to be reset 3 times a day.

We recently exchanged our old WRT54G with the current model WRT54GL. Unfortunately we have to reset the WRT54GL router a few times per week. We noticed that when one of the clients -- an iPod Touch -- is not being used on the wireless network (that person being away), the router runs without failing. I would suppose router reliability should not depend on the clients that it serves. Is anybody familiar with a similar problem? Is there a way to prevent the router from failing so

I have a WRT120N router .It has something to do with turning on or re-introducing certain wireless devices into the area. When I come home with my iPhone & my wife is on her computer, suddenly the wifi stops. And vice-versa. It's ridiculous. I'm not a computer programmer but if I was I'm pretty sure this would be a no-brainer to fix. Especially if the company that paid me took pride in their products.

my E4200 is dropping connections several times a day. I'd be working on my laptop, go to a webpage and bang, no connection. A minute or so later it would reconnect. It even appears to be doing this with a computer that is hardwired to one of the ports. So it doesn't seem limited to just wireless. Happens to both N and g channels as well.

I just bought WRT54GH router. I have one PC (running Ubuntu) connected via Wireless.Every 5-10 minutes I get disconnected for a short period of time (about 10-30 seconds). During that period I am able to access router configuration page, but can't connect to the "outer" world... Surely it's not about my Internet provider, since connecting the PC directly to the Internet cable works fine with no "disconnections".

I also did an map scan of the router and this is what came up
Interesting ports on 192.168.1.1:
Not shown: 65531 closed ports
