My parents live in a retirement community that has free wifi. They are in a blind spot and need a rooftop antenna, which has been connected to a laptop. They want a wireless network in their house. Can I just plug the rooftop antenna into one antenna socket of a two antenna AP/Bridge/Repeater? If not, what should I do?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI got a Studio 1535 Laptop which comes with a Broadcom WiFi card that is named "Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card" in the Hardware Manager.
I tried to connect to my ZyXel WiFi router but though i had it all configured right, Windows would always come up with "you entered the wrong key". After playin around for some time i figured out that everything just works fine when i switched my router from WPA-PSK to WPA2-PSK. My router features both WPA-PSK and WPA2-PSK but since my other PC does only support WPA-PSK the router is set to that and i want it to stay that way. I just don't want to buy new hardware for all my other computers.
So is this WiFi card strictly incompatible with WPA-PSK? Does'nt make any sense to me because WPA2 works just fine! Normally they are downwards compatible aren't they? (Moreover, when setting up a connection i can choose WPA-PSK from the dropdown menu.
I have a wlc 5508 and I'd like to setup a network for visitors. They will connect to the WLAN, enter a password and then automatically get redirected to an external website. I understand the wlc 5508 supports this but I'm struggling to find out how to set this up I assume this can be done without having to customise webauth bundles?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron Laptop with Windows 7 and a PC with XP. The Laptop has Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN mini-card, i think it supports 802.11g. My PC has DLINK DWA 525 PCI WIRELESS card, this supports 802.11g and n. The wireless router is Belkin Surf Wireless Router (F7D2301zb).
Now, the problem i'm facing is when PC is connected first and later when laptop is connected, the computer gets disconnected. Laptop works fine. I have to restart the router to connect both.
Is it due to the difference in 802.11 G and N of Laptop and PC ?
In one area of the home is a century link pk 5000 modem that connect to the internet. In another area of the home is the computer that has an e1200. Is it possible to connect the computer to the internet, wirelessly, from the e1200 to the pk5000? How is this accomplished?
I know the settings for the pk5000 and would "input" them into the e1200 if I friggen knew where to do this.
I´m trying to connect them to my WLAN, for throubleshoot I create a new WLAN with WPA2-TKIP and a PSK, the devices didin´t connect to the WLAN.I also change the security to WPA2-AES with TKIP, it didn´t work too.
My best choice was to disable every security configuration in order to began the throubleshooting from zero, but even with no Layer 2 and 3 security, the devices didn´t connect to my Test WLAN.
I´m using a AIR-CT2504-K9 WLC with two AIR-CAP3502I-A-K9 AP, all the PCs and other brand cellphones and tablets work well.
Also I have a SOHO router on the office, and the IPad connect without a problem with that WLAN, but I need them to connect to my Cisco AP.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI don't sound like a complete noob but anyway here it goes....I have a small business and work on my network myself. I am a novice but do enjoy the challenge. What I have in the closet is Comcast Business Class cable into a SMC 8014 router/ gateway with 4 lan ports. One of the ports goes into a ethernet switch and then those are fed into the panel for the corresponding 7 offices. The other lan port I connected a netgear n750 wireless router The Lan network is on a separate network form the wireless network because I set the Netgear n750 Wireless Router's DHCP server to on. I did this to keep people off of the local network. We have meetings with as many as 30 members and they use the wireless in varying degrees with no problems thus far. My problem now is that I think I have set it up wrong because I need to connect to my network printers and work-group computers with my wireless laptop ....problem is they are on different networks or subnets. They all have the same public IP of course but 2 seperate DHCP private networks...Is the term "different subnets"???
What I am looking to do is change the Router to an Access point or whatever works....... that grants access to the internet only for visiting members and........ Wireless access to my lan and internet for my laptop's Would making the Wireless Router an Access Point by turning off the DHCP sever and creating guest accounts be the right choice. Or is there a way to connect to my LAN through the wireless network without making this change.
Have Dell 6400, run Win XP serv. pack 3. No red X or yellow ! under Device Manager. I did open up laptop, took out WLAN card, restarted laptop, turned off laptop, reinstalled WLAN card, restarted laptop.

One month out of the box, my Dell Inspiron M5030 suddenly refuses to connect to my Netgear router. It can see the router as an available connection, but I still get an "unable to connect" error. Right now, the LAN gives out 10.10.99.x addresses, the WLAN gives out 10.10.100.x addresses. What is the best way to get these two interfaces to give out addresses on the same scheme, ie both LAN and WLAN giving out 10.10.99.x addresses?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just recently bought this router (DIR-615 rev E3) to act as a Access Point for the dead wifi spot in my room downstairs. I set up everything properly (Turned off DCHP, set ports and gateway..subnet blah blah) and it was working fine. My wireless speeds were perfect, and had no issues with that. However, my wired speed was significantly slowed down. I have Verizon Fios and have the wire from that plugged in to LAN port 1 on my DIR-615. I have another wire going from Port 2 to the back of my PC. My normal speeds are about 30mbps down and 25mbps up. When I connect my internet through the second router (DIR-615) I get a maximum of about 3.0mbps up and down, doesn't go much higher than that. The wireless however, gives me about 11mbps both ways, which is fine.
I thought it might have been a firmware issue so I flashed to DD-WRT (build 15778), but the problem persists. I've tried most everything and am getting desperate. There's absolutely no logical reasoning for the slowdown. I have confirmed it's a router issue because I also turned off wireless on my laptop and plugged that directly into the router instead of my desktop and get the same 3mbps.
I've got a couple new 5508 controllers to replace my 4404's. Im wondering though if I throw them on the network to setup, will there be any conflict with the current access points? Will they try and join the new controllers for any reason automatically? Is there a better way, or a best practice to provision these new controllers?

All my internet devices (Laptops, PS3, iPad etc.) have been able to acess the new network but my old Dell XPS 600 with its Dell 1450 wireless card cannot "see" the new network. When I refresh available networks in wireless connections the old XPS 600 can see various networks (neighbours etc.) but cannot recognise the new network even though its working fine with my other PCs
Do I need to upgrade the Dell 1450 wireless card ? If so what am I missing - what requirements do I miss? Which card should I buy?
I have a wrt54g router and would like to separate the WLAN clients from accessing computers and servers on the LAN... in other words I would like to make it a "guest" network. I've put the router in "router" mode instead of "gateway". I just want to be sure if that is the best thing I can do in terms of turning the wireless network into an isolated one.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am experiencing one, possibly two problems with the X3000, firmware release v1.0.03:
1. When enabling guest mode, the internal network is not accessible via WLAN even for clients NOT connected via guest mode but regularly: Even non-guests but regularly connected clients can't access any internal IP but the router itself. netscan shows only the very client's IP and the router's. Only after switching guest mode entirely off, regularly connected clients can access interal IP again. netscan correctly shows the whole network. Obviously a firmware bug. BTW: Clients connected via cable do not experience this problems.
2. I am not sure about this, but after using the firmware built in "Reboot" button, the router reboots correctly. But for some reason, it is instable afterwards. It is operational for a few seconds but then reboots again. It keeps cycling. I could stop it by switching the router off and on again.

I have new Inspiron 1720 running Vista with the Dell wireless 1390 WLAN mini-card. I will be connected to the wireless network just fine, but it will then disconnect. My problem is I cannot re-connect to it without having to do a total restart. I go to the place to refresh the list, and it finds nothing. I ask it to repair the network, and it can't becasue it cannot find a network. I have at least 4 other networks in the area that I can normally see, and none appear when I hit the refresh button. But I totally restart the system, and everything works fine again (until it drops again).

Then I get this following message:"Solution Found: Address a problem with your WLAN card.Your WLAN card has stopped working properly. This is a network adapter that allows your computer to connect to a wireless network. To find out if an updated version of your WLAN card is available, contact your device or computer manufacturer."The strange thing is even though I get this message I am still able to connect to the internet via a wireless network. So there is no problem as such it is just annoying to keep getting this message when Windows starts up.I have checked on the DELL Support website and I do have the most up-to-date driver already (Or I think I do).

However, now that smartphones are starting to enter our lives and they like wifi, I would like to add wifi to my wired network. The router is in the basement and I would like to add wifi to the living room upstairs. So I don't think I am looking for a router/booster/repeater but some other piece of equipment that can be plugged into a ethernet plug in the wall of the living room and broadcast from there. I have used Connectify but that requires a laptop to be on all the time so I was hoping for something smaller and easier.
