NSA 3500 - How To Get A WLAN On The Same Network As LAN

Jan 18, 2013

We have a Sonicwall NSA 3500. We have a seperate interface for LAN and WLAN. The WLAN is set up on a Sonicpoint. Right now, the LAN gives out 10.10.99.x addresses, the WLAN gives out 10.10.100.x addresses. What is the best way to get these two interfaces to give out addresses on the same scheme, ie both LAN and WLAN giving out 10.10.99.x addresses?

Cisco Wireless :: 1262 / 3500 For WLAN Between Buildings?

Jul 4, 2012

I currently have WLC 5508 and a few campuses with LAP 1142, each with 2-3 vlan. Now one of our campuses have a building thas is a bit far away and needs network (wired). We can't get fiber or TP-cable there in a good way. So the plan is to get two 1262 or 3500 with AIR-ANT5160NP-R antennas and get a wireless link working between the campus and the building. And then connect one of the AP's to a switch in the other building to provide it with wired network.

The problem is that I can't find information on how to do it. Should both APs be in autonomus mode? I probably only need to have 1 VLAN in the other building but I am not sure yet. Is there a problem with transfering several VLAN over the WLAN-link?

Cisco :: 4400 / 3500 - WLAN Environment / Security And Design

Sep 18, 2011

My company has chosen to allow our employees to bring in and use their own personal electronic devices such as i Pads, i Phones, tablet PC's, etc... We intend to allow them to access our network with these devices. My question is if an employee decides to enable a WiFi hotspot on an iPhone, i Pad or other device and then share out that network connection we have provided to them to allow other devices to tether to it, how do we prevent or mitigate this issue with our W LAN environment?

Our current environment consists of 4400 series WLC's and 1131, 1231 and 1242 series AP's using version 7.098.218 code. We plan on migrating to 5500 series WLC's and 3500 series AP's but this will not happen overnight.

Cisco :: 5508 / 3500 / 1200 - Network Fluctuation

Nov 20, 2011

we have a wireless network composed by Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers (WLCs) and Access Points (APs) providing access to a large university.

For WLC we're using the 5508 model (four controllers in total) with the latest software version - 7.0.220.0.

For APs we're using the 3500 Series (AIR-CAP3502I-T-K9) and the 1200 Series (AIR-LAP1262N-T-K9), also with the latest version (upgraded automatically by the WLC). We have around 200 APs. We have established V LAN's specific for the dynamic interfaces (providing the W LAN's) and a management V LAN's (id 254). Our users are experiencing performance issues with the network, specially when the number of users connected is high (around 1700~2000 users).

Analyzing the packets received by a client, we detected a lot of Gratuitous ARP packages originating from the WLCs, for each APs. According to Wire shark:

No.     Time           Source                Destination   Protocol Length Info
     31 31.954314000   Cisco_61:xx:xx        Broadcast      ARP      42     Gratuitous ARP for NNN.NNN.254.63 (Reply)
     33 32.552240000   Cisco_61:xx:xx        Broadcast      ARP      42     Gratuitous ARP for NNN.NNN.254.236 (Reply)
     34 32.559302000   Cisco_61:xx:xx        Broadcast      ARP      42     Gratuitous ARP for NNN.NNN.254.115 (Reply)
     35 32.616899000   Cisco_61:xx:xx        Broadcast      ARP      42     Gratuitous ARP for NNN.NNN.254.171 (Reply)
    [ code]....

Cisco_61:xx:xx is the WLC mac. All these IP addresses (NNN.NNN.254.XXX) are APs.

As you can see, the clients are receiving broadcast related to the APs in the management V LAN (254). In our understanding this traffic should occur only between WLCs and APs. We are already using two separate ports in the WLCs - one for the 254 V LAN (management) and other for the dynamic interfaces (W LAN's).

We have left a ping command running in the client, and have noticed that when the clients receives many of these broadcast the connection fluctuates. Such broadcasts from the management network in the W LAN's are expected behavior?

I would prefer to connect the WLC Guest port to an ASA 5510 and the WLC Staff port to an internal 2960S switch. Will this work? I haven't setup a 2500 series controller previously.

Expanding Network LAN To WLAN?

Aug 30, 2012

My house is nicely wired for internet with access to the internet from every room via a wired connection. However, now that smartphones are starting to enter our lives and they like wifi, I would like to add wifi to my wired network. The router is in the basement and I would like to add wifi to the living room upstairs. So I don't think I am looking for a router/booster/repeater but some other piece of equipment that can be plugged into a ethernet plug in the wall of the living room and broadcast from there. I have used Connectify but that requires a laptop to be on all the time so I was hoping for something smaller and easier.

Adding Two WLAN Access Points To Existing Network?

Apr 11, 2012

Here's the deal. My internet provider provided me with a shitty router with a lot of settings locked. I can't change DHCP settings or add custom static IP addresses. This sucks. The wireless function on it sucks also.I added an extra router to the network so I have good Wifi in my living room. I turned off the NAT, firewall and DHCP on that one, so it's a simple switch with a wireless access point now.Now here's the deal. The DHCP server of the provider's router hands out IP's from 192.168.2.1 to 192.168.2.253 (192.168.2.254 is the router's own IP address).I gave the added switch/access point the IP address 192.168.1.1 in its own settings. The original router doesn't 'see' the switch now anymore because it's out of the DHCP's range. When I gave it an IP address within the DHCP's IP range, I got all kinds of conflicts (as expected).

I guess this is a solution since it works, but I'm open to other suggestions since it doesn't seem to be the best way of doing things. Besides, I can't access the access point's web interface anymore since it doesn't have an IP address within the network now. It isn't important because I don't need to change any settings anymore, but still.I'm going to add a second wireless router to replace the built-in wireless function of the provider's router. For some reason it sees its own wireless network as a separate network or something. When I roam from the new access point wifi to the provider router's wifi, everything gets confused because it tries to give the laptop a new IP address.

Dell :: Inspiron 1521 - DW WLAN Network Controller Using More CPU

Jun 13, 2013

I have got this new Dell inspiron 1521 with windows 8 and I am facing some weird problem with its DW WLAN NETWORK CONTROLLER.

it uses more of cpu resources (as seen from task manager) and causes the active window to become non active.

this makes it frustrating to work, means I am typing some username or anything in IE or Chrome or anywhere else and it suddenly becomes non active window (non selected as if some thing else is selected) and again becomes active in few seconds or I have to click anywhere in the window to make it active.

some times a pop up opens that "DW WLAN NETWORK CONTROLLER HAS STOPPED WORKING" send this information to microsoft.

This happens randomly and I'm not able to figure out when this thing occur, means I'm running on battery or power supply.

I have not used wifi on this laptop and I don't have wifi modem. I always use internet through ethernet cable.

One more thing whenever this problem occurs, I stop all the process related to WLAN in task manager and the problem of active-non active window and popup message disappears.

I have tried to uninstall and install the network adapter. also tried latest drivers from dell website.

Do I need to upgrade the Dell 1450 wireless card ? If so what am I missing - what requirements do I miss? Which card should I buy?

Linksys Wireless Router :: X3000 FW V1.0.03 - Internal Network Not Accessible Via WLAN?

Feb 1, 2013

I am experiencing one, possibly two problems with the X3000, firmware release v1.0.03:

1. When enabling guest mode, the internal network is not accessible via WLAN even for clients NOT connected via guest mode but regularly: Even non-guests but regularly connected clients can't access any internal IP but the router itself. netscan shows only the very client's IP and the router's. Only after switching guest mode entirely off, regularly connected clients can access interal IP again. netscan correctly shows the whole network. Obviously a firmware bug. BTW: Clients connected via cable do not experience this problems.

2. I am not sure about this, but after using the firmware built in "Reboot" button, the router reboots correctly. But for some reason, it is instable afterwards. It is operational for a few seconds but then reboots again. It keeps cycling. I could stop it by switching the router off and on again.

Dell :: Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card / Connecting To WPA-PSK Protected Network

Feb 27, 2009

I got a Studio 1535 Laptop which comes with a Broadcom WiFi card that is named "Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card" in the Hardware Manager.

I tried to connect to my ZyXel WiFi router but though i had it all configured right, Windows would always come up with "you entered the wrong key". After playin around for some time i figured out that everything just works fine when i switched my router from WPA-PSK to WPA2-PSK. My router features both WPA-PSK and WPA2-PSK but since my other PC does only support WPA-PSK the router is set to that and i want it to stay that way. I just don't want to buy new hardware for all my other computers.

So is this WiFi card strictly incompatible with WPA-PSK? Does'nt make any sense to me because WPA2 works just fine! Normally they are downwards compatible aren't they? (Moreover, when setting up a connection i can choose WPA-PSK from the dropdown menu.

"Dell Wireless WLAN Card Wireless Network Controller stopped working and was closed.a problem caused the application to stop working correctly. Windows will notify you if a solution is available."

 Then I get this following message:"Solution Found: Address a problem with your WLAN card.Your WLAN card has stopped working properly. This is a network adapter that allows your computer to connect to a wireless network. To find out if an updated version of your WLAN card is available, contact your device or computer manufacturer."The strange thing is even though I get this message I am still able to connect to the internet via a wireless network. So there is no problem as such it is just annoying to keep getting this message when Windows starts up.I have checked on the DELL Support website and I do have the most up-to-date driver already (Or I think I do).

The message refers to my:
