Have a 601 and a system running Windows 7 64bit. Router works great but the computer 1 light goes out when the PC sleeps and does not reset (turn on) when I wake the system. Unplugging and re-plugging the router fixes the issues until the next sleep

I'm having trouble keeping my server asleep. I've been thorough in my process of elimination, and have narrowed it down the DIR-655.
I am trying to get my server to go to sleep after say, 30 mins.. and stay asleep until either me, or my wife try to access a file on it. However, it wakes up around 30 seconds after going into sleep... every time.
I've disconnected everything else from the network, and it still does it. I've disconnected my modem from the router, thus having no WAN access, and it still does it.
No other software is running on the server that is waking it up. No tasks are running that can wake it up. However, if I pull the ethernet cable from the back of the rig, it sleeps just fine.
I've disabled DHCP as all machines have a static IP.
I'm at a loss as to what else to do now. Clearly the router is broadcasting something that keeps the server awake.
I hope so, otherwise the DIR-655 goes into the trash. I need the server to sleep when not required.

yesterday (GMT) I received and installed my new TD-W8968 from Amazon and seemed to work a dream.. until today. The router connects to my desktop PC via a wired LAN connection but uses the wireless for laptop, TV, smartphone etc. Today I notice that when my PC wakes from sleep the LAN connection is lost. None of the LAN lights are on. And also there is no wi-fi connection either and even though WLAN light is on there is no signal at laptop. Setup is pretty much out of the box though I did reset channel to avoid conflicts locally. This is set to 7. The PC LAN adapter is enabled and ready but no apparent connection to router. I changed the router LAN port and that seemed to work but after I had the problem again this change did not work. I changed the LAN cable and that seemed to work until next sleep! Then fail again!
Is there anything on LAN adapter or router that needs changing? Am I on the latest firmware and would an upgrade fix this?
I just upgraded my dir-835 to the latest 1.03 firmware and it still not working.Plugged an ntfs firmated drive with films on it into the router and windows media player can see and stream from the router but xbox 360 is not detecting the media server !I tried with a dir 857 and xbox works fine but with the dir 853 no go

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm having an issue where essentially my only course of action is to unplug the router and plug it back in. I can connect my laptop (Dell Inspiron N4010) and my phone (HTC Inspire) once. But then if I put my computer to sleep, or I take my phone out of the wireless range and come back, I cannot connect again. I've gone through and played with the settings (changing the upnp, the beacon intervals, the channel, etc) but to no avail. Invariably, I always have to come back to unplugging and plugging back in.
Also have a Kobo E-Reader and a wireless Canon printer. The whole point of a wireless printer was so that it would stay connected and I can print from my laptop. This router is making this useless.
Got a new EA6500 a few days ago and from the start it acts as if times out and goes to sleep. Any time I enter a URL i get a long pause then the website unavailable message... refresh a few times then suddenly it works fine. this is for both connected and wireless. Even when I have the Linksys Smart WiFi open, I'll get a pop-up message that no router connected, then it goes away and everything is fine. Sometimes the old Windows Network message pops up asking me to connect. Works fine once it's "ON", but always have to refresh page a few times to get it to wake up.

I've been told by one person that this is a problem with vista and windows 7, but wouldn't that have been a problem with my old router also?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI turned on my PC this morning and I found I could not connect to the Internet. I have a few other computers and devices in the house that are ALL connecting to the Internet fine. I've tried basic things like unplugging /re-plugging the Ethernet cable, resetting router, attempting to set up a new network, system restore, running norton anti-virus to detect any potential problems etc all of which haven't resolved the issue.
I also checked my device manager to see if my drivers were up to date and I found that under 'Other Devices' my Network Controller stated that the drivers were not installed. I'm not sure if this is the issue (considering my Internet was working absolutely fine less than 24hrs beforehand) but I can't search the Internet to automatically find the driver for obvious reasons.
I found a few people suggesting to use the hardware id to find the appropriate driver, any direct link to the driver. My network controller hardware id is below:

I have a router setup that worked for me for months, suddenly, it stopped detecting the wire connected from the POE adapter.When the wire is directly connected to my pc, the connection works and i have internet. But when thru the router, the WAN Light is not even lit.Btw, just for checking purposes, I tried connecting a wire from my pc to the router wan port, and the WAN light lits up.

I've screwed around with the card speed, 10 mbps Half Duplex didn't work or anything. I've manually set the IP and related stuff to 192.168.1.x and the works. I've tried to manually run the setup, although that definitely didn't work considering that my computer can't even detect the dang router. I had to get a new desk, thus had to disconnect all my devices, including the router. After plugging everything back in, the router only detects USB 1.1, even though the device is clearly USB 2.0.

When it booted up and type show inventory, it did not detect the presence of the card. There was light on at the back of it. I have checked the compatibility on Cisco. Without reason, the router stopped reading the internet cable/the port on the router stopped detecting the signal from the cable connected to the modem. I can plug the cable from the modem directly into a laptop and the laptop picks up the signal (using it to write this). I swapped out several DSL cables to confirm it wasn't a cable issue and it does not make a difference. I tried rebooting the router, resetting the router, and yet nothing works.

Hit continue, held the reset button down for 10 seconds then powered off the router for 30 seconds and plugged it back in.My firmware version in the router is still saying v2.07.1, I would assume it should say 4.21.4?

My E4200 works beautifully, and was working fine with the Toshiba 500 GB portable drive that I had on it for a week or so. I tried to plug in my WD MyBook Essential (Passed on the list of compatible drives), but the router is not detecting it. Further, when the drive is plugged in, the router stops receiving new wireless connections. Even if I reboot a laptop that was previously connected, it says that that the passkey is incorrect. When the drive is plugged in, I can't even log in to the 192.168.1.1 - it's as if the router creates a firewall around it and refuses every new connection on every port.

I have a Win 7 laptop which keeps dropping its network connection. I have changed the power management option on the network card so it can't turn itself off, but it still goes to sleep after a certain amount of time.I've also tried with a different docking station and network cable in case that was an issue, but the same thing happens. Event viewer does not reveal the cause of the drops.

She just had her PC connected directly to her modem for several years, so I eventually got her a router so when her kids and grand kids came to visit they could use wifi. It was a very basic and inexpensive Belkin model, but I don't recall the model number. The problem was the Internet connection would become inactive every time the desktop PC that was connected to router via Ethernet would go to sleep. The only way to get the Internet connection back was to wake up the desk top PC. I checked all of the router settings, googled to see if I could find similar problems, etc... and never could fix it; so I eventually set up my trusty old wrt54g at her house. It worked fine in my home for years; and when I set it up at her house, it still had all of my original network settings in it. I just changed the network name and password.But the same issue is still there. Every time the desktop PC goes to sleep... The router loses Internet connection and does not get it back until the desk top is made active again

My laptops are fine and can connect to the internet w/ the wireless however.When I have windows diagnostic run a troubleshoot and repair, it tells me it can't communicate w/ the primary DNS server and that resetting the Local Area Connection will fix it (And it does).If I restart the computer, it seems to fix this problem as well.I don't get why it can't communicate w/ the DNS and that I have to manually reset the LAC everytime I turn on the computer from sleep mode.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI used to have ATT DSL but we recently switched to U-Verse. I have a Trendnet TEW-452BRP 54g wireless router than was handling the PPPoE function. It was set to work flawlessly with my wireless cards. No dropped connections, speed or security issues. It always connected quickly from wake up and on start up. Now we have a 2Wire i38HG wireless router/gateway and it's been difficult to properly set my network up as before. I use the Trendnet behind the 2Wire as my wireless router. Took me a while to figure out what to do, but DHCP is disabled on Trendnet so 2Wire does what it needs to. This option works fine for me. The only problem is that at first my wireless card would not automatically connect to the network through the Trendnet when it is in range like I had it set to do previously. When I would force it to, after 3 times it would magically connect on it's own. I made some changes in the Trendnet (Mainly disabling dynamic DNS and NAT) and that seems to have made a difference. To be honest, I don't know if that is significant or not or if it actually made a longterm difference but it seems like it has. So my problem is now that when I put my laptop to sleep and have it wake up, it does not automatically reconnect. It takes about 2 minutes then it does on its own. I read the event viewer and this is the info it gave me - Your computer was not able to renew its address from the network (from the DHCP Server) for the Network Card with network address 0x0018DE0682D8. The following error occurred: 0x79. Your computer will continue to try and obtain an address on its own from the network address (DHCP) server.

I have three computers on my network. Two are wired and one is wireless. I continually run into the probably of getting a limited connection after the computer goes to sleep and I wake it up. I attempt to automatically correct it, but this doesn't work. I try to use the command prompt with ipconfig/release ipconfig/renew and it doesn't work. Then I try to disconnect the adapter and it doesn't work. I also reset the modem and the router with no resolve. Most of the time the only thing that works is restarting the computer. In addition I do use DHCP static addresses for the computers on the network. What is causing this and how do I fixt it without restarting the computer?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am completely baffled by what is going on, on our network. We have four HP C4005 Printers. All of them connected to different switches around the network. About every 1-3 hours they all give the error 49FF09 (which is pretty vague, basically a network connectivity issue). Have to reboot to get rid of the error, then it will work again for an hour or so and give the same error (whether print jobs have been sent or not). This started a few days ago out of no where.
I am starting to think its an issue with the network, because they will all go offline at the same time. If I run a constant ping to them, they will all go offline at the same time and return the error. We use all cisco equipment. If I check the port statuses they all say up 100 full with no errors.
I have tried disabling sleep mode on the printers, turned off multicasting, updated firmware for printer and for jetdirect, and used different drivers.
