D-Link DIR-655 :: Accessing The Router Via The Guest Network
Feb 1, 2011
Is there any way to access the router's configuration pages (192.168.0.1) via the Guest wireless network when routing between the zones is disabled?
Here's the story:
I am using my landlords wireless internet, but I administer the router myself. The router is 'upstairs' and i am 'downstairs' and he has his computer plugged into it plus one wireless laptop. He knows nothing about computers and is vulnerable to downloading viruses (and other ****) and I don't want my computers to be on the same 'network' as his.
I had a brilliant idea that since I am 100% wireless, I can make a guest network, put all my computers on that network and disable routing between them. Now all of my computers (some connected through a wireless bridge) can not see his computers at all (perfect!). The only problem now is I can no longer access the router config pages at 192.168.0.1!
Is there any way I can segregate my computers from his and also access the router config? I've tried accessing the WAN IP for the remote admin pages from inside the NAT, but it still blocks it.

How do I block a particular IP from accessing my network entirely? I have a hacker with a known IP I want to shut out. I tried creating a DENY inbound filter (with just that IP as the range) but that didn't seem to work. that hacker kept being able to attempt logins.

If possible I would like to have access to my external hard drive from outside of my network. While in the network my laptop connects to the Hard Drive using the shareport. If I take the laptop with me then I would also have to take the External Drive with me.

Just upgraded my system. I am using D-Link 615 as access point hardwired LAN to LAN to ActiveTec MI424WR N capable Verizon Fios Wireless Modem/Router. The Fios Router is set up with WPA2 security. Intend on having three 615s as Access Points off of ActiveTec. Have a number of wireless devices accessing the network. Have followed instructions from manual to use 615 as Access Point, disabling UPnP and the DNCP Server function on the 615. My ActiveTec IP address is 192.168.1.1 and I changed the 615 to 192.168.1.50. I can type this IP address in my browser and get to the 615 set-up.
I have tried a couple different options in naming the SSID on the 615 set-up. If I name the SSID on the 615 the same as the ActiveTec router, when I go to Connect to a wireless signal where there is overlap, there are two signals that one can connect to, named the same SSID, the Fios is WPA2 secured and the 615 is not. Shouldn't these all be on one SSID? It seems that I have two different networks (different SSIDs) instead of one (rather than the 615 simply serving as an extension of the Fios router as a wired remote access point) with different security protocols (WPA2 and None). The SSID name almost seems meaningless. If I name the 615 SSID the same as the Fios router SSID or something different, I still have the option of selecting one SSID that is secure and one that isn't. If I try to connect to the SSID name associated with the 615 I can get on without providing a password. How do I make it so that one can walk around and go from one area to the next and seamlessly move to the best signal? I did read to select different sets of channels for each access point.

I recently upgraded from Linksys WRT54G to D-Link DIR-655 firmware version 2.0. All the features are working as advertised however i am having difficulties accessing UPnP services in my network. I have a Samsung 55" internet enabled TV connected to the router and also have few devices that can stream over UPnP to the TV. The option to enable the UPnP is enabled in the router configuration however its not finding devices in the network ... comparing that with Linksys ... all i had to do is enable the UPnP and all my devices discovered each other and started streaming without any issue. What do i need to do in D-Link to enable the UPnP devices ...

I've been fighting the Rev A4 HW and 1.3x firmware stability issues. I would like to try the 1.21 firmware, but I use the guest network feature. The unofficial backrev'in instruction look to be a PITA... and I just would like make sure the guest network feature exists in the 1.2x firmware before I got through the trouble.

Any step by step instructions (for the DIR-655) on how to block a PS3 from accessing this router? I know how to log into the router's page and I can get the MAC address of the PS3, but I am clueless from there. I want to block it completely is possible.

I have a wired DLink DGL-4100 as my main router and DHCP server. Attached to this, I have a hard-wired Linksys WRT610N which is acting as a dual-band access point. All are on network 192.168.1.0/24.I would like to create a second "guest" wifi network using a spare DLink DIR655 router. Guest clients should have access to Internet but absolutely NO access to machines and resources on the 192.168.1.0/24 network.I connected the DLink DIR655 WAN port to one of the Linksys LAN ports (since it is basically a switch). I configured the DLink DIR655 with LAN IP 192.168.2.1, activated its DHCP to give out 192.168.2.100-105. I set the DLink DIR655 WAN Internet Connection Type as Dynamic IP (DHCP). The DLink DGL4100 assigns an IP to the DIR655 on the WAN side (e.g. 192.168.1.200).With this setup, wireless clients on the DLink DIR655 2.0/24 network get assigned an IP on the 2.0 network. They can access the Internet. However they can still see all the 1.0/24 clients. how come the networks aren't isolated? How should I set this up properly?Do I need to use the DMZ setting on the DLink DGL4100?I know I could get rid of the Linksys and use the Guest Access feature on the DLink DIR655. However I would like to use the Linksys for its dual band feature.

On the Dap1522 access point, in access point mode, would it be possible to have the following 2 features implemented?
1) Ability to simultaneously broadcast on the 2.4GHZ AND 5GHZ band.
2) Ability to specify a guest network.

I have a DIR-825 (hardware rev B1, v2.06 firmware) with 2 guest networks active (one on each frequency). I recently attached a laptop to the network using the computer's PCI NIC, with the wireless card completely turned off. Much to my surprise, Windows (7 Pro) indicated that I was connected to the 2.4GHz guest network. The only place in the router's configuration where the indicated name appears is in the "Guest zone" configuration page, where it asks for an SSID to use for the "wireless guest zone". Not only that, but it was the only connection that I could get for the computer, unless I turned the wireless card back on. That's also interesting because no other computer on the network, connected via cable, displays any "named" connection when viewing the networking properties. They simply show "Network" as their connection.

207.NA Firmware, B1 Hardware in use on a DIR-655, Time Warner Cable setup. Nothing to do with Revision, cordless phones,I saw this asked once before specifically here, but it was never answered. After several attacks via our cable network and neighbors, we've HAD to turn on MAC filtering. There are TONS of devices attached normally so two situations popped up:
#1: What happens when you max out the authorized MAC address listings? Does the page get longer when you save/reboot it? Do I have to do it manually from there forward and where can I get down to the core programming level to edit the code and put the MAC's that are around and on 100% of the time to open up the plug-in list on the GUI?
#2: Guest Zone - we NEED a way to have random guests get on our Network with a different password we can randomly change to prevent the outside abuse, etc. but am I understanding what little else has been posted that the MAC filtering also covers the Guest Zone and therefore I have to stick them in there before they could simply log on with the current password? Is there any way to change/stop that without eliminating MAC filtration as a whole?

So i have set up my Dir-615 router and it worked for about a week perfectly. Then one day i was able to connect to the router, but it says that there is no internet connection. This is untrue since i am able to connect to the internet if i unplug from its WAN port and put it straight into my laptop.

I am wondering if all routers that have a USB port to which network storage can be attached, support the functionality to enable that storage to be accessed from outside the network. If this is true how (in a conceptual sense) can the router be configured to do this and what are the security implications?

Region : UnitedStates
Model : TL-WDR3600
Hardware Version : V1
Firmware Version : TL-WDR3600_V1_130320
ISP :
Has anyone gotten the Guest Network feature to work from the new firmware TL-WDR3600_V1_130320?I have my WDR3600 setup as an access point:TPLINK with static IP address connected via ethernet cord from the LAN port and connected to the main Verizon FIOS router which distributes DHCP IP addresses to the netwrok. Can not get the Guest Network feature to work - I see the guest SSID I created but when I connect to it, the IP address assigned is in the 169. range meaning it does not get to my main router. It may be because I have the TPLINK setup as an access point, so are there any people who have gotten Guest Network work either with the TPLINK as the main router or as an access point?

I am connecting the router to a corporate network that assigns "real" IP to it (DHCP). Then I have 3 computers connecting to this router (local IP 192.168.1.2-4).Assuming I want to access a network drive named "ADrive" (on the same corporate LAN) from any of those 3 PCs, how do I do it? ("\ADrive" does not work, neither does replacing the network drive name with its IP, cannot ping either - it's like I'm on a totally separate network).

Alrighty, a little misdirected here. been reading docs for a little while and experimenting around maybe someone can point me in the right direction, How to you create a Guest Network in IOS Zone Firewall. For some reason Cisco, while using the term DMZ, applies differently on their routers than it does on their ASA's. I know how to do this on ASA's all day long however on the router it is a little different story.

I have the wireless guest network up and running just fine. But, I need to also connect to the router's quest network via one of the ethernet ports. Can I just give the LAN-conencted PC a 192.168.3.x static IP to access the guest network? I am assuming there is no VLAN functionality...
And even better, can I set up a DHCP relationship to that port? So that any device plugged into the port will get a IP on that subnet?

I cannot get the Guest Network feature to work.Even though Guest SSID is enabled, it does not show up on any devices attempting to connect. Manually connecting by entering the Guest SSID fails (not recognized). On devices with the primary 5 and 2.4 GHz configured they do see the third network but without SSID (unknown) and are also unable to connect to it manually using the SSID.I did not try this before 1.0.02. Have rebooted modem and verified all configs (multiple times). The network is live in an office and can't keep screwing with it or drastically changing its settings.

I just installed my EA4500 router and it was amazingly simple. My only question is it shows two wireless connections available: The secured one I set up and the another network with the same name that says "guest" and is NOT secured. Is there a way to either disable the unsecured guest network or to secure the guest network?

I am running a guest network on my E4200V2. I have changed my DNS servers on the router to use OpenDNS for traffic filtering. The filtering on my non-guest networks is working fine; the OpenDNS test sites are blocked. However, when I use the guest network, the OpenDNS test sites are not blocked. There's obviously nowhere that I can change the DNS settings for the guest network.
I know that parental filtering in the router applies to the guest network, however, it seems that the DNS servers for the non-guest networks don't apply to the guest network. Is this true? Have others seen this?If so, that's pretty disappointing. OpenDNS filtering is much more powerful than the 8-URL blacklist I can create in the router admin. If I want to filter sites for my kids, having a guest network that is essentially wide-open (except for 8 URLs) is not an ideal situation.
