I am using the 26 character WEP code. Was wondering if it's possible to setup a short password or PIN number. Been troubleshooting problems with a wireless blue ray player that has required multiple resets. Entering the wep code with the remote is hard!

I seem to get worse range on the DIR-655 than I did on the DIR-615. I was able to walk out to the parking lot with 1 bar of signal on my phone with the DIR-615. I can get about half way there before I have no signal now that I've got the DIR-655. Are there some settings to disable that might be playing a role in this? I've got the router configured for wireless N only, could that have something to do with it?

Even before I did the latest firmware flash I couldn't select short GI under Advanced Wireless - it was simply greyed out even though WMM was enabled above it. Now after a factory reset and recreating all my settings I still can't select it.
How do I get the number or password to my router, i have a nook and it was hooked up to comcast until i changed to verizon, now my nook can't find my network.

I use the whitelist feature, so only trusted web sites can be accessed. Unfortunately the DIR-615 only has 10 entries in that list and I will soon need more. So I wonder if there is another D-Link router that offers a bigger list with maybe 50 or even 100 entries?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have some tunnels which terminate to my home router. I'm allowing the other ends of the tunnels to use my voice setup. I need to prepend *67 to all called numbers which don't originate from my house. I don't want people calling my home number based on the caller-id number they see when someone across one of the tunnels calls.
So if 5008 calls 212-333-4444 I want it sent to my provider as *672123334444. If 5001 calls a number, I don't want it touched. Can I do this? I can use IOS or CUCM here.
My internet connect works fine for hours at a time, then suddenly will get 7 or 8 General Failures while pinging (long enough to boot me off the net) then will be back to working fine immediately afterwards.Pinging 127.0.0.1 works fine. View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm having a problem with my router a Dlink DIR-655. I know its the router because if I direct connect from my cable modem the problem does not exist. What happens is I start downloading/streaming something it will start and then just stop prematurely causing me to restart it to get it too finish. For example on youtube, I start loading a video it loads normally for 2 mins of video and then will stop. I can get it to restart if I swap video quality and then it just does same thing. Loads around 2 mins of video then stops loading.
I have tried switching browsers, and I changed my MTU size from 1500 to 1300.My motherboard is a GA-P67A-UD4-B3 if that matters. I have the latest firmware on my router.

View 5 Replies View RelatedJust upgraded my system. I am using D-Link 615 as access point hardwired LAN to LAN to ActiveTec MI424WR N capable Verizon Fios Wireless Modem/Router. The Fios Router is set up with WPA2 security. Intend on having three 615s as Access Points off of ActiveTec. Have a number of wireless devices accessing the network. Have followed instructions from manual to use 615 as Access Point, disabling UPnP and the DNCP Server function on the 615. My ActiveTec IP address is 192.168.1.1 and I changed the 615 to 192.168.1.50. I can type this IP address in my browser and get to the 615 set-up.
I have tried a couple different options in naming the SSID on the 615 set-up. If I name the SSID on the 615 the same as the ActiveTec router, when I go to Connect to a wireless signal where there is overlap, there are two signals that one can connect to, named the same SSID, the Fios is WPA2 secured and the 615 is not. Shouldn't these all be on one SSID? It seems that I have two different networks (different SSIDs) instead of one (rather than the 615 simply serving as an extension of the Fios router as a wired remote access point) with different security protocols (WPA2 and None). The SSID name almost seems meaningless. If I name the 615 SSID the same as the Fios router SSID or something different, I still have the option of selecting one SSID that is secure and one that isn't. If I try to connect to the SSID name associated with the 615 I can get on without providing a password.How do I make it so that one can walk around and go from one area to the next and seamlessly move to the best signal? I did read to select different sets of channels for each access point.
We have been using a SRP521W as the main Router for an office with about 25 users.
So on the cable network it's about 25 computers, 25 IP Phones, 3 printers. Wireless network hold some smartphones and tablets. Computer traffic is 100% Remote Desktop.
That said, for the last few days network connectivity sucks. I think the problem is, precisely, the SRP521W. Some mornings the WAN link is down and can only be brought up by a router reboot.
There's an IPSec tunnel to HQ.
Wireless network was moved recently to a WAP121 to offload the SRP521W. It has two networks: internal and customers with two VLANs.
CPU Usage is around 30-45% all day and spikes to 100% sometimes. RAM Usage is 40-45%. I do not know if this is "too much", "average" or "really low load".
Anyway, time for questions:
a) How can I get a table of active connections on the firewall/NAT to see if there anything "strange" on the network traffic that maybe causing issues?
b) Is there any know bug in the VLAN handling of the SRP that maybe causing the issue? (it's one of the latests changes introduced).
c) If the problem is that there's too much load for such a small router, what replacement would you recommend given the details above? (remember I do not really need wireless on the router as I have the wap121).
With basic "Wizard" setup I got DHCP and port 80 for the camera. It was working just fine with MyDLink and locally with DLink-ViewCam software and some local test web pages. However, we have a wireless printer on that router which also uses port 80, so when it was installed we set up a "port forward" for port 80 traffic to it for administration from other subnets. How MyDLink website is able to tunnel through our hardware firewall and the wireless routers firewall to communicate with the camera is not clear to me (perhaps someone can send me a link to an explanation??), but it works...Thus, to allow access to the camera from other subents, I wanted to change the camera's port from 80 to another, say 8181 and set up the appropriate "port forwarding for TCP and UDP. All of the steps below were from a PC within the camera's subnet/router so port forwarding is not an issue

The range on the 2.4 and 5 GHz have both been extremely short -- shorter than the old Buffalo. 1 meter from the router, I get five bars on the laptop and 3 bars on ipad. 3 meters away with direct line of sight, the laptop dips to 4 bars. Down the hallway about 4-5 meters away, the 2.4GHz is one 1 bar on laptop and ipad. the 5GHz is gone. This is two rooms away from the router in my apartment. Isn't that a bit shocking in terms of performance? A webcam that is two rooms away registers a 6% signal from the E4200.Does this sound like faulty hardware, e.g. bad antennae? I would think it is something about the build of my apartment building, but my old buffalo did MUCH better than the E4200. two Ipad bars where the E4200 has one...and in very unstable condition.

Some streaming HDTV content to other devices in other rooms. I'm thinking of the following:
-DIR-655 routing between the DSL subnet to the internet, the 2.4GHz wireless and a couple of wired devices.
-DAP-1522 routing between the 2.4GHz wireless, 5GHz wireless, and a few wired devices.
-DAP-1522 bridging between the 5GHz wireless and a few wired devices.
All devices will/may need internet access.HDTV content would be between wired devices and only over the 5GHz wireless (no HDTV to/from internet).Is the DAP-1522 the right device(s) for this?
There is a problem with establishing an internet connection between my laptop and any wireless network, and hence the internet cannot be accessed. Though, the connection can be established locally between my laptop and the wireless network for a short while before the connection is lost locally. There is certainly no problem with my current wireless router as there are internet connections between the wireless network and other devices. Prior to using the current wireless router, I used Linksys WRT54G for internet connection until recently when there was no connection between all devices and the Linksys wireless router, so I changed my wireless router to the current one. However, the problem still persists for my laptop. I can only get access to internet when my laptop is connected to the router using ethernet cable, as well as when my laptop is connected to the main cable modem using the same cable.My laptop model is Fujitsu Lifebook S Series and my laptop is running on Windows Vista Service Pack 2 and my current wireless router is Belkin N300 Wireless N Router Model F9K1002v1.What I have done so far are that I have ensured that the DNS client and DHCP client service are enabled and that I have used the method of "/release, /dnsflush and /renew" on the command prompt.Below is the /ipconfig /all description when this laptop is connected to the cable modem using ethernet cable:
