D-Link DCS-930L :: Changed Port Number Now Cannot Access Video?
Nov 26, 2011
With basic "Wizard" setup I got DHCP and port 80 for the camera. It was working just fine with MyDLink and locally with DLink-ViewCam software and some local test web pages. However, we have a wireless printer on that router which also uses port 80, so when it was installed we set up a "port forward" for port 80 traffic to it for administration from other subnets. How MyDLink website is able to tunnel through our hardware firewall and the wireless routers firewall to communicate with the camera is not clear to me (perhaps someone can send me a link to an explanation??), but it works...Thus, to allow access to the camera from other subents, I wanted to change the camera's port from 80 to another, say 8181 and set up the appropriate "port forwarding for TCP and UDP. All of the steps below were from a PC within the camera's subnet/router so port forwarding is not an issue

Received a replacement DCS-930L today; using WPS, did setup wirelessly; all OK. Then did firmware update wirelessly (with second, DCS-932L, turned OFF). The v1.03 firmware file was the same one I previously used, I think. Amazingly, The camera menus are now in French, and I can't find a setting to change it to English.

Recently, out of the blues, the video feeds on both of my DCS-930L cams are all scrambled.I've tried reset to default, update firmware, using wired, used on Windows7, used on Windows XP, used on Firefox, used on IE...nothing seems to resolve the issue.

First of all, I've purchased a couple of Wifi cameras in the past, and they've always been missing something important (i.e. just returned a Cisco camera because it didn't support WPA2-AES).
So I was thrilled when I first received the DCS-930L - it was sleek, wireless setup was easy, and mydlink.com is slick as well.
But I'm afraid I've found the fatal flaw. I purchased this camera for one reason only - to figure out how mice are getting into my basement! I set up the camera where I suspect they're coming in, set up motion detection (via ftp), and then walked in front of the camera to test it.
To my surprise, I checked the FTP folder and found dozens of STILL images! What I really need is a video file. Is there NO way to configure the camera to capture video (not still images) when motion is detected? This seems like a huge gap. The Cisco camera I returned could do this.
If it can't do this, can it can be configured to record the last X hours to a shared drive somewhere, so I can at least go back and look at recorded video?

I'm considering using this cam as a live cam pointed across the street to a beach and ocean view. Would it produce a decent video if used for this purpose? I've been looking around for some sample video from this cam but so far no luck. Any sample sites I could log into to see the 930l in action?

When accessing the camera on mydlink, or on a browser using http://x.x.x.x/mjpg.cgi, I would expect the net bit rate to be substantially less than for a sequence of jpg's, since true motion-jpg uses a lossy form of intraframe compression typically yielding a 20:1 data reduction (according to wikipedia). Indeed, I can readily see this reduction in mjpg clips made on my Canon S5is camera. It's not clear whether that is happening with the d-link DCS-930L camera (640x480, quality "high", java).

Setup my DCS-930L for DDNS (Dynamic Domain Name Server) so I can access the DCS-930L via the Internet (couldn't access the camera half the the time while on vacation using mydlink) and can now access the camera using my laptop, Android Thrive, and Motorola Droid 3 via the URL I've created but can only see the video when using the laptop.
I have the DCS-930L set to Java but when I log into the camera with the Thrive or Droid 3 (both Android devices) I don't get video. I can make changes to the camera settings and everything else you can do when logged into the camera but just can't see the video. If I change the 'View Mode' in the video setup to 'Image', I will get a picture on all three devices (Thrive, Droid 3, and laptop). What do I need on the Droid 3 & Thrive so I can see the video when I log into the DCS-930L with an Android device?

The DCS-930L provides no date & time on video stream at mydlink, but does display those when accessing on the LAN. Is there a way to force the date/time tag to show over the web? Otherwise, remote recording might not know when an event happened?

I have a DCS-930L and when I was viewing from mydlink.com, it works fine. However, it is interfering with my personal web server which is also hosting on Port 80. When I change the port on DCS-930L configuration page to other port like 8080, I can't view it on mydlink.com, but if I view it locally, it works which defeats the whole purpose.

DIR655 with 1.33NA firmware. I'm trying to determine how to block access to the internet for a specific LAN computer when the user knows how to change a MAC address. I don't want to turn MAC control on and grant only to listed computers - the list doesn't accommodate enough MAC addresses, and the client has wireless and wired since it's a laptop. I also don't want to set static IPs on all of the devices since some cannot accommodate that feature.I'm thinking that reserving an IP address isn't ultimately the solution either, since assigning the IP isn't going to work if the MAC changes. how to use access control under these circumstances?

I bought and hooked up my DCS-930L camera last week. Have since traveled overseas and go to Mydlink website, log-in and then it tries to install a java applet that never does install. It shows the security box where it asks me to run and then it shows another security box with a message: java.io.FileNotFoundException:C:usersmynameAppDataLocalLowSunJavaDeploymentsecurity rusted.certs(Access is denied)
I click ok and the java applet never loads. It just keeps saying Installing Java Applet.

I think I did everything per the manual, but I cannot access my camera over the internet thru [URL] website. It says that I have to check if I have enough bandwidth, or checked if my camera is not blocked by my router But I have a Dlink DIR 655 router where I have configured the Virtual server (port 80) as it is explain in the manual I also have a DHCP reservation that works fine (I can access the camera within my network) What should I do more now to finally access my camera from internet (this is for me the interest of havinf a network camera!)

I can access my cameras through the Dlink web site (mydlink), but cannot access all of them through D-View Cam o n my desktop. I do a camera search and it only finds two of them and the third one it doesn't see. I tried to insert it manually and it still doesn't see it. It sees it fine in mydlink.
I've uninstalled the D-View Cam program and re-installed it, with the same results.

during the first set up I have set a password as it was requested during the installation routine. After the installation, I added the camera's IP to my browser (tried IE9 and FF). In both cases I was asked to enter the user name and the PW, but I can't access the 930. I'm using the very same PW as I had set up during the routine, but none of the browsers accepts the PW.

I would like to understand how public IP works in remote access. I do have belkin router and when I access it remote I type my public IP and after it the port number for example xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:80 and if I would like to access an IP cam remotely in the same network i would do the same thing xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:5656 (public IP). I do know my Public IP is unique. Thus, its quite logical I can access my devices remotely. my understanding of the port number is application specific that addresses packets in different applications in the same computer. For example port 80 is for HTTP connection used browsing the web, for chatting in MSN i will use different port number specifically for MSN...etc. my question is how I can access my belkin router remotely by typing the public IP and the port number knowing that the port number is application specific not device specific? My second question is, is it possible to access two routers in the same network remotely?

Laptop, Desktop with USB stick, and 2 notebooks all were working fine on wireless prior to switching from phone line, to high speed cable connection at router. Have tried reset, unplug power, reinstalled router and everything else I could think of but none of them will connect. Shows a good strong signal from router but will not connect. Re-entered numbers, password etc as well in all other computers. What else to try other than a new router? Could it be coincidence that router decided to quit, around same time as changeover? Cable connections good and main computer connected via cable works ok, just all wireless not working.
Can't log in to d-link either. wrong password,? Type in admin, but won't log on without password and I tried but won't accept . Hitting reset and then retry didn't work either?

I have DIR600 Rev. B1 for about 2 years, and it's been working without a problem.Suddenly yesterday, I could not connect to the internet from my 2 laptop & blackberry.SSID & signal reception looks normal. On checking into the router's web interface, I noticed that the network key was changed into something else.....normal character like y2tz39s.
I'm being very curious. Has it been hacked ? Is it possible?I'm using WAP/WAP2 Security Setting for wireless connection. All other settings seems intact (firewall & even the SSID). Only the password was mysteriously changed. If I consider it being hacked, I wonder why the hacker didn't mess up all other settings ?

I work for a small company where we have a simple network that runs from one router and I believe has a switch. We all have access to the network wirelessly or with cable. The internet was running ok up until yesterday when I came in to do some online banking and thought the site was down. However, turned out it was just me that was having trouble. I coudn't access secure sites like online banking or facebook for example. Now I was using the cable at the time and this wasn't working. When I tried wirelessly it would work... this confused me but not as much as when I found out that others in the office could use the cable and even more, there are 2 others who cannot connect to secure sites with cable or wireless.I was wondering what could have changed over night as this is what seemed to happen. Is it our ISP? (prob not as others are ok) so I'm thinking there must be some kind of setup issue in our configuration. I believe we are all using dynamic IP addresses but I'm not sure if thats even relevant
