i have 7 AP's in a school...i have numbered them 1 to 7 and have a strong password on im being called out every few months to reset the AP as its not working when i get there i see the ssid has changed to hp-josh1a seems like a computer name (its different most times) how are they changing the ssid of the tp link?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have manually configured the E2000 and set the admin password. When I was trying to log back in, I could not. I reset and reconfigured and set the password again. I still could not log in using "admin" and the password I set up. I thought I was losing my mind. Just on a hunch, I used the SSID name instead of "admin", then entered the password that worked. I am able to login, but I need the username to be admin, not the SSID. Has anyine else had this issue? Any way to change the administrator name back to admin??
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a wrt160n router set up at a friends house that i would connect my windows xp laptor to when i would go there. it always worked fine. i recently got a new laptop with vista 64 bit OS. i went to my friends today and connected via wireless for the first time. i expected to get prompted for the security key. instead it asked for the pin #. the pin number was something new i noticed when i replaced an older linksys with the new wrt160n so i had it in my notes. i entered the pin number and connected to the wireless router. but then my friend laptop could not connect and said it couldnt find the network. when i viewed the available networks, i noticed that the original network SSID had been changed to my vista laptop's computer name. i had to physically connect my laptop to the router and reconfigure the settings of the wireless network. then my friend was able to see the available network and automatically connect..

Yet, whenever I would hit save settings, it would say my settings were saved, then return me to the settings page. But the settings would be blank. I tried downloading firmware from the website (which should say September 28), yet it still says I am running the firmware from September 1st, even after I applied the upgrade and followed through with the 50 second reboot process.
So, I guess my final question for any tech savvy person out there is "What is wrong with my router/firmware?" I am running the browser config in the most recent Firefox on the same MacBook I used to install the router, and haven't changed any settings other than the SSID and password.
DIR655 with 1.33NA firmware. I'm trying to determine how to block access to the internet for a specific LAN computer when the user knows how to change a MAC address. I don't want to turn MAC control on and grant only to listed computers - the list doesn't accommodate enough MAC addresses, and the client has wireless and wired since it's a laptop. I also don't want to set static IPs on all of the devices since some cannot accommodate that feature.I'm thinking that reserving an IP address isn't ultimately the solution either, since assigning the IP isn't going to work if the MAC changes. how to use access control under these circumstances?
View 1 Replies View RelatedLaptop, Desktop with USB stick, and 2 notebooks all were working fine on wireless prior to switching from phone line, to high speed cable connection at router. Have tried reset, unplug power, reinstalled router and everything else I could think of but none of them will connect. Shows a good strong signal from router but will not connect. Re-entered numbers, password etc as well in all other computers. What else to try other than a new router? Could it be coincidence that router decided to quit, around same time as changeover? Cable connections good and main computer connected via cable works ok, just all wireless not working.

B1 for about 2 years, and it's been working without a problem.Suddenly yesterday, I could not connect to the internet from my 2 laptop & blackberry.SSID & signal reception looks normal. On checking into the router's web interface, I noticed that the network key was changed into something else.....normal character like y2tz39s.
I'm being very curious. Has it been hacked ? Is it possible?I'm using WAP/WAP2 Security Setting for wireless connection.All other settings seems intact (firewall & even the SSID). Changed from D-Link to Netgear router now only one of two computers cannot see the other. Error shows cannot connect to MSHOME network, need administrative approval. Computers are ethernet connected to the router. Have McAffe and both computers are "Trusted" Can do a search with XP and it shows the missing computer but unable to make a connection.

The v1.03 firmware file was the same one I previously used, I think. Amazingly, The camera menus are now in French, and I can't find a setting to change it to English.

It was working just fine with MyDLink and locally with DLink-ViewCam software and some local test web pages. However, we have a wireless printer on that router which also uses port 80, so when it was installed we set up a "port forward" for port 80 traffic to it for administration from other subnets. How MyDLink website is able to tunnel through our hardware firewall and the wireless routers firewall to communicate with the camera is not clear to me (perhaps someone can send me a link to an explanation??), but it works...Thus, to allow access to the camera from other subents, I wanted to change the camera's port from 80 to another, say 8181 and set up the appropriate "port forwarding for TCP and UDP. All of the steps below were from a PC within the camera's subnet/router so port forwarding is not an issue
View 5 Replies View Relatedi have 2 DIR 615 routers which both stop broadcasting SSIDS. Ive had only one connected at a time, thinking it was a bad router, but both behave the same way. Is this a known issue or something ? What happens is, after some time (it varies..sometimes 3hours..sometimes longer), the router stops broadcasting the ssid, and I can no longer connect any of my wireless devices to it. The hardwired connection does work (I have a server connected to it, and it appears to work).The only settings I have changed is my SSID name, and wpa2 password. I've set up one virtual server to port forward requests to the server. Thats it. Nothing complex or anything. And both routers behave the exact same way, meaing they stop broadcasting the SSID.

Had no problem with the netbook (acer One) and the Wii. But the Iphone 1st gen (cracked, but working good up to now) won't see any Wifi.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to connect two DCS-942L to some netgear WNHD3004 (wireless access points a/n WPA2 personal) that I use as access point but I can't find them in the site survey (advanced settings then wireless setup in the camera page).I think I could set manually the network name, security mode and key but since I'm working remotly on these camera, I'm pretty sure it won't work and I'll loose connection (actually they are connected to other access points and work ok).An ipad and macbook pro is able to see and connect to these access points so I don't think they are the problem.I've updated the camera to the latest firmware (1.12 build 1608 agent version : 2.0.15-b11)

I am using the Router in 3G/4G mode, with WAN only (PPPOE) enabled. I have set a personal SSID in the Wireless > Wireless Settings > Wireless Network Name field.
I do not see the particular SSID on my computer, instead on every reboot / restart of the device a random SSID is generated. see attached screenshot. I can connect and everything works well, but I have to enter the WPA key after each reboot.
Ive had this 655 for about a year now and it has been rock solid. But, there has been one slight issue.
And and all wireless devices can see each other and all wired devices can see each other....but the wired cant see the wireless and vis versa.
The wireless devices (W7 and Vista laptops) can see the wired devices when they are plugged in. But my phone and Galaxy Tab can only see whatever wireless devices there are (cant be plugged in). Even my wired Samsung TV cant see the shares on the Tab or wireless laptops (and vis versa). So, its certainly not a firewall or OS config issue.
Now, I made sure they are all connecting via the main SSID and not the "isolated" Guest SSID....but its acting like the main SSID is isolated from the wired LAN somehow.
Firmware 1.34. IPs for the wired and wireless devices are all in the 1.2 - 1.50 range.

Before my TL-WR702N was working fine as a reperter. After sometime it doesn't work any more, so I try to reset it again but now I couldn't see my SSID after I press the survey buttom in the quick setup - wireless repater page.
it's across 3 floors and the current setup is a single wireless router DIR655 (1st floor), but the WiFi suffers greatly on the floor below/above.
I have sourced 3x D link switches and 2x more DIR655's and would like to have all machines/consoles/phones etc in the household on the same network. Is it possible to keep one DIR655 as the main wireless connection and have the other as pure AP's as well as keeping the same SSID?

We are trying to use a TL-WR941ND purchased about a month ago, but it keeps hanging, usually within a day or so of operation.To be clear: by "hanging" I mean the device stops providing wireless services (its SSID is no longer visible in WiFi clients) and becomes nonresponsive to pings or control access attempts (via settings web page) from the internal network connections.The device is used in a very simple scenario, where it's being employed as a simple access point, not as a router. As such, the device's configuration is as follows:
* WAN interface is configured with a dummy static IP (10.10.10.10/24) with gateway and DNS set to the internal IP address of the actual routing device connected to the external world.
* LAN interface is configured with an IP address inside the actual internal IP subnet (192.168.1.0/24).
* DHCP is also disabled as this service is already provided.
* Wireless settings: radio enabled, SSID broadcast enabled, WDS disabled, 11bgn mixed mode, auto channel width, max TX rate, channel 7 (manually set). Using WPA-PSK security.
Rest of the settings are unchanged from their default values, as the device isn't being used as an IP router by any client - just as a WiFi/Ethernet layer 2 bridge. We're using what appears to be TP-Link's latest stock firmware for the device.The settings described above appear to provide the connectivity required by the WiFi clients. However, the device continuously hangs within a day or so of operation, requiring someone to physically attend to the device and cold-restarting it (disconnecting it from power and reconnecting it) to regain an operational state.
After performing a cold restart, the system log shows nothing beyond the startup entries: "System started" entry followed by security info entries regarding enabled protocols. Then the device appears to work well for a while, until it hangs again, forcing again someone to attend to the device, etc.
Is it possible to assign a single ssid to multiple interface groups by assigning the ssid to multiple AP groups?
I have buildings geographically dispersed that are configured with multiple vlans in interface groups so that I can maintain an addressing scheme of dhcp assigned addresses per building. Each building is also further grouped as AP groups. I'd like to know if by assigning the same wlan ssid to each of the AP groups, will I maintain addressing integrity for each building? I'm thinking it will work.
Do the buildings have to be outside AP range of each other to avoid problems?

Tonight I went to lay down in bed and decided to start up the Wii for some Netflix. About 30 minutes into watching my program, my connection suddenly cut out. I got up and checked my modem, and sure enough the "online" light was blinking.
I did the usual power cycle thing with no luck. The whole time I am thinking to myself "I swear I just paid that thing a week ago!". After power cycling 3 times, I decided to check the router settings by going to my router manager page (192.168.1.1).
I look through my basic settings when I noticed my DNS address was no longer set to "Get automatically for ISP". Well, that's not right. It now had a new primary and secondary DNS listed. I couldn't remember if either of those addresses were always there. I switched it back and like magic my modem connected again.
Should I be concerned by this? I remembered the big "DNSChanger" thing going around a while ago, so I checked the two numbers against the FBI database and both numbers came up clean.
I ran into a bit of an issue today while testing a vpn software on a virtual machine(win7); I successfully connected to vpn, then the connection dropped and since with the vpn connection another ip address was assigned, now I'm unable to communicate with that VM.
I am able to find it in SCCM via hostname, but can't reboot it or start anything on it.
when I did ipconfig it gave me 174.61.85.170. What to do

So I checked with whatismyip.org and let's say with the router, it showed, 29.28.29.450, Then I took the router out and just used the modem and it showed as 29.28.29.449 If I were to use a different router, would it end with 450 again? Or an entirely different number, because the router is of a different brand? I'm assuming having a router is good for protection from malware, trojans and what not?
