I have a new laptop and had a dlink DIR601 installed on an older laptop. I wasn't the one who got it set up originally but they did have me write down my SSID, password and security key. The dlink came with a cd but there is no cd rom on this laptop. I have tried reset, on line download (which only let me do the revisions). I have talked to a few people and they say it's easy!
View 1 RepliesI got a D-Link router not too long ago and I set it up in an odd way, the router password I gave it during the setup would not be accepted but the Network Security Key (the randomly generated alphaneumeric code) was accepted. I used it to connect all of my wifi devices.
The router password (which doesn't work), the "network name (SSID)", the network security type, and the network security key were all saved on my desktop. My computer has since suffered a critical crash and had to have it's hard drive erased. I still remember the password, the network name, and the security type. But the NSK (the thing I need to connect in place of a password) has been lost. It was this long random string of letters and numbers that I couldn't remember for the life of me.
I also remembered my Admin password, so I am able to log into http://192.168.0.1, but in here I only know how to change the regular password. I don't know how to access or change the NSK. change the security setting so that I can use the actual password instead of the NSK? Because of the crash I lost my iTunes libraries so I'm going to have to reset all my iOS devices, which are primarily what I use wifi on. If I reset them, they'll forget the wifi network and the assosiated NSK password, so I won't be able to use wifi at all.
how can I set password for my wireless internet? I used to have one, but today I have fully restarted modem and router to factory settings, so password is gone. Now I'd like to set it up again, I have TP-Link router.

I have portable hard disk connected to one of the TL-WDR3600 router usb ports (another one has printer connected to it)
Write speed is about 3Mbytes/sec maximum.Real disk write speed is about 35-38Mbytes/sec - if I connect it to one of the PC USB ports (both router and PC ports are USB 2.0)Why write speed via router is so low?
My PC is connected to router via cable and is running Windows 7 32bit Ultimate SP1, hard disk partition is 465Gb NTFS single volume.I'm measuring speed simply by coping 1.4Gb file through Windows Explorer to \tplinklogin.net (following USB storage access instructions from router control panel) in first case and directly to hard disk - in second case.

I hadn't thought about the fact that no assigned SSID or Password came with them. I downloaded the Linksys set-up files from their website and recently set up both of them for relatives. They work great but they are "unsecured networks". I'd like to change that.

To make a long story shorter, both my cable company and Belkin were involved to set up the router a few months ago, and I was assigned an SSID and password that I now want to change. I've received emails from Belkin on changing it at the router - but when it comes to my notebook computer, how to establish a network - I'd like to know how to change the SSID and password in an already-established network, once I've made changes with the router. I'm assuming this is possible? It is my understanding that I don't need to make any changes with my wired desktop, other than to use it when making the router changes? I'm a little familiar with the network configuration setting process with my printer, so am pretty sure I can handle that.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just purchased an E4200 and got it up & running. Everything was fine, until I connected a Wi-Fi DVD player to it. I followed the DVD player procedure, which was to push the WPS button on the router, and then the appropriate button on the DVD player. After a few seconds, the player connected, and I successfully accessed YouTube through it.
So far, so good -- except that it turns out that the router, on its own, changed the SSID and password. When I could not get Wi-Fi access on my iPhone, I checked the Wi-Fi settings, and instead of the original SSID of the E4200 -- let's say ShadeTree -- it was changed to Cisco_WPS_xxxxx (the X's represent numbers). I started Cisco Connect, and a screen came up showing that the password had been changed from the original, and listed both the original and new passwords.
What is going on? Why would the E4200 change the SSID and password all by itself, when I connected a Wi-Fi equipped DVD player with WPS? Is this going to happen when I connect a Wi-Fi equipped TV set, or some other component? What can I do to keep the E4200 from changing the network name and password all by itself? Or am I going to have to re-program every other Wi-Fi device (iPad, iPhone, etc.) every time I add a new component?
i set up the WAP4410N and it can be connected with our router. But it's not protected by our password, but once i have set the password of WAP4410N by changing the security mode to WEP, now i will prompted to password when I connect the AP, but it shows limited connectivity, I can't even access my local LAN resources at all.

I have come across a new problem with our WAP4410N. I have set up multiple SSID's for various groups of people and guests at our company, the first and main SSID has set security properly at WPA2-Personal with a 63 character password. So I went ahead and setup the other 3 SSID's with the same security (just to initially get security going was planning on taking down one of them for guest account), but when I boot up my testing laptop, it shows that SSID's 2-4 have no security what-so-ever.
I have re-checked my settings in the Wireless Security tab and they are all still set with the passwords.
I am using: PID VID: WAP4410N-A V02Software Version: 2.0.4.2.
I have a Cisco AIR-AP1242AG-A-K9 Autonomous AP running firmware 12.4(25d)JA. I wish to set up multiple SSID's (2) each having their own separate security types. Both security types may end up being WPA2, but would have separate keys. I do not have a managed switch, the AP is connected to a "dumb" switch in an office environment, with no VLANS. Also this is only for 1 access point.
I have tried creating 2 SSID's, but my issue is that only one SSID will actually work at a time, meaning that only the native VLAN in the AP will actually allow wired traffic through it's SSID. How can I set up 2 different SSID's, with 2 independant security types and have them work simultaneously? Is this functionality supported by this AP?I feel that this is possible, as I can easily set this up on other access points from other manufacturers.

On most wireless devices which are on the company network/VLAN's, I have used WEP authentication with hex keys, and no broadcast. Obviously this cannot be the same for a guest internet connection.We want to have the VLAN/SSID in guest mode (which i have configured) for broadcasting, and then once someone selects the SSID on their laptop or smart phone, they are just prompted to authenticate with a standard alphanumeric password (example "guestwifi") instead of a 40 or 128 bit key.
I have searched all over and tried multiple things in the CLI on AP1, but can't seem to get anywhere.
I purchased what I think is a new EA4500 but the box was not sealed. On setup it had a SSID name of Mischief Dolphin populated with a random password. Is this a default or was perhaps this router already setup (used)

I had to default my wireless router " Netgear WGR14V6" and since then I haven't been able to connect with my wireless card. I can physically connect to it with a cable but I can't access it with the wireless card. When I look at the properties it says that it is working fine but I can't seem to find where to change the "SSID and the security phrase". Usually when it is up and running it has a status button and when you click on it there is a tab that you click on and it shows you the SSID and the rest, but now since it is not connected there isn't anything that I can find to change this.

I see where I can change the password but it says I'll lose all wireless connections. This doesn't make sense to me. I would think the router administration username and password are completely separate from the ssid and wpa key. This was the case with my earlier LinkSys router. I'd like a router administration username to be something other than the generic "admin" and a password that is easier than my long wpa key. Yet, whenever I would hit save settings, it would say my settings were saved, then return me to the settings page. But the settings would be blank. I tried downloading firmware from the website (which should say September 28), yet it still says I am running the firmware from September 1st, even after I applied the upgrade and followed through with the 50 second reboot process.
So, I guess my final question for any tech savvy person out there is "What is wrong with my router/firmware?" I am running the browser config in the most recent Firefox on the same MacBook I used to install the router, and haven't changed any settings other than the SSID and password.

View 1 Replies View Relatedi have 2 DIR 615 routers which both stop broadcasting SSIDS. Ive had only one connected at a time, thinking it was a bad router, but both behave the same way. Is this a known issue or something ? What happens is, after some time (it varies..sometimes 3hours..sometimes longer), the router stops broadcasting the ssid, and I can no longer connect any of my wireless devices to it. The hardwired connection does work (I have a server connected to it, and it appears to work).The only settings I have changed is my SSID name, and wpa2 password. I've set up one virtual server to port forward requests to the server. Thats it. Nothing complex or anything. And both routers behave the exact same way, meaing they stop broadcasting the SSID.
