Linksys Wireless Router :: E2000 -Admin User ID Changed To SSID Name?
Jul 12, 2010I have manually configured the E2000 and set the admin password. When I was trying to log back in, I could not. I reset and reconfigured and set the password again. I still could not log in using "admin" and the password I set up. I thought I was losing my mind. Just on a hunch, I used the SSID name instead of "admin", then entered the password that worked. I am able to login, but I need the username to be admin, not the SSID. Has anyine else had this issue? Any way to change the administrator name back to admin??

Oct 8, 2009I have a wrt160n router set up at a friends house that i would connect my windows xp laptor to when i would go there. it always worked fine. i recently got a new laptop with vista 64 bit OS. i went to my friends today and connected via wireless for the first time. i expected to get prompted for the security key. instead it asked for the pin #. the pin number was something new i noticed when i replaced an older linksys with the new wrt160n so i had it in my notes. i entered the pin number and connected to the wireless router. but then my friend laptop could not connect and said it couldnt find the network. when i viewed the available networks, i noticed that the original network SSID had been changed to my vista laptop's computer name. i had to physically connect my laptop to the router and reconfigure the settings of the wireless network. then my friend was able to see the available network and automatically connect..

Jan 3, 2012Recently, I bought the E3200, and tried to configure its ports for gaming. Yet, whenever I would hit save settings, it would say my settings were saved, then return me to the settings page. But the settings would be blank. I tried downloading firmware from the website (which should say September 28), yet it still says I am running the firmware from September 1st, even after I applied the upgrade and followed through with the 50 second reboot process.
So, I guess my final question for any tech savvy person out there is "What is wrong with my router/firmware?" I am running the browser config in the most recent Firefox on the same MacBook I used to install the router, and haven't changed any settings other than the SSID and password.

Nov 30, 2011I was talking to a friend today and he told me that a router changes the IP address you're given to by the ISP? So I checked with whatismyip.org and let's say with the router, it showed, 29.28.29.450, Then I took the router out and just used the modem and it showed as 29.28.29.449 If I were to use a different router, would it end with 450 again? Or an entirely different number, because the router is of a different brand? I'm assuming having a router is good for protection from malware, trojans and what not?

Apr 20, 2012My son decided to update our router firmware, together with this the password was changed. My computer which hosts the Internet connection works fine, all other laptops have now been connected successfully after simply changing the password. However my wifes laptop won't play ball. It is a Samsung R510, with Vista Home Premium OS. It worked fine prior to updating the firmware. I have been through the process of changing the password and have the correct security encryption in place, exactly the same process as with the other laptops.
It then says successfully connected, but shows in the bottom right of the screen, Unidentified network access local only and will not connect when the browser is opened. I have tried to diagnose but the usual windows prompt to reboot both modem and router has no effect. I have set it to private, as advised elsewhere, I have switched the firewall off and removed security software, all to no avail.
I tried the command prompt, then ipconfig/renew. An error occurred while renewing interface Wireless Connection: unable to contact your DHCP server. Request has timed out. No operation can be performed on Local Area Connection while it has media disconnected. Let me stress that no changes were made to the laptop at all, it is simply not connecting following the firmware update and password change. All other computers, and phones, 6 in total, are all working fine from simply changing the password.

Jul 10, 2012cisco 2561xm router with WIC1-adsl card and NM-16ESW switchIOS: c2600-ipbasek9-mz.124-23.bin ,I recently had to temporarily disconnect my above router for a few days and replace it with a cheap plastic home router and was embarrased to discover my adsl broadband speed shot up 45% with the cheap router. With the cisco 2651XM I always got a max download of 400kb/sec but with the cheap router I was getting 580kb/sec. Clearly something is wrong with my cisco config, I put this down to the mtu setting, which in the cheap router wasn't shown but set to auto. I've tried different mtu settings in the cisco router (including 'no mtu' but never get more than 400Kb/sec.My isp indicates optimum mtu is 1500 but that doesn't produce any speed increase.What can I do here to get the cisco router working to maximum speed?

May 21, 2011I have a Linksys E3000, have had it successfully connected for three months now. Recently I attempted to connect my xbox 360 to the wifi and had issues connecting it. So I called ATT to obtain the PPPoE username and password, which they reluctantly gave me. Entered that into the xbox and still unable to connect, so I have given up on the xbox for the time being, I'll post that issue in a different forum. Where my issue is now is since contacting ATT the WPA2 password I set up for the router no longer works. I cannot access the router setup page, and I cannot add any new wifi devices. Although, all of the previously connected wifi devices are still connected to the router despite this issue. Is there anyway to make the old password work, or do I have to reset the router and start from scratch, and God forbid contact ATT again?

I have buildings geographically dispersed that are configured with multiple vlans in interface groups so that I can maintain an addressing scheme of dhcp assigned addresses per building. Each building is also further grouped as AP groups. I'd like to know if by assigning the same wlan ssid to each of the AP groups, will I maintain addressing integrity for each building? I'm thinking it will work.
Do the buildings have to be outside AP range of each other to avoid problems?

However, when I tried to change the SSID to a unique name, I was unable to connect my computer to the wireless network. I then reset my security settings and left the SSID to the default name "linksys_SES_54125" and it is working just fine. I tried to connect with two separate computers both running Windows 7. My router is the WRT54G v8

Oct 27, 2012Tonight I went to lay down in bed and decided to start up the Wii for some Netflix. About 30 minutes into watching my program, my connection suddenly cut out. I got up and checked my modem, and sure enough the "online" light was blinking.
I did the usual power cycle thing with no luck. The whole time I am thinking to myself "I swear I just paid that thing a week ago!". After power cycling 3 times, I decided to check the router settings by going to my router manager page (192.168.1.1).
I look through my basic settings when I noticed my DNS address was no longer set to "Get automatically for ISP". Well, that's not right. It now had a new primary and secondary DNS listed. I couldn't remember if either of those addresses were always there. I switched it back and like magic my modem connected again.
Should I be concerned by this? I remembered the big "DNSChanger" thing going around a while ago, so I checked the two numbers against the FBI database and both numbers came up clean.

Nov 18, 2012The router is a N Wireless Router. When I try to connect to my router through my phone the SSID appears as belkin.2lc and it won't connect but says authorizing then disconnected. The weird thing is that my laptop and all my roommates laptops and my Xbox can all see the routers real SSID and connect.just fine. I've tried restarting the router and my phone. I've also checked my router settings and made sure their is no MAC address enabled.
