when i open the network folder i do not see icon of the router. when i was dsl-2641b the icon showing under network infrastructure panel but now i do not see this panel. if i open network and sharing center an then i open "see full map" i see the router icon.

I am using Windows 8 and my router is a Linksys E2500, in the Network folder it shows no icon and also I get a error when I right click the device and choose "Network Map" (from what I can tell this feature has been removed from Windows 8.) Both these problems are cause by an outdated Windows 7 driver on the Microsoft Update Catalog (I have Windows 8 configured to download updates/drivers automatically, that's why this installs)The reason there is no icon is because of these entries in the driver INF

I've had a DIR-601 for about a year now. Since I've got it I get errors telling me the DNS server is unavailable randomly, so I reset my modem and router, do the ipconfig windows commands, but this time it seems as if the wireless isn't working. This computer is connected to the router via wire and can connect to the internet just fine, but any wireless devices cannot. On the front of the router the wireless icon is just blinking. Also, I am not able to connect to the router login page through it's IP address, it just times out.

I switched it on today and i have no internet connection. When hovering over the icon it says unidentified network - no internet access. My service provider is British Telecom and i am on the Fibre Optic package. I am using the BT Home Hub 2.0.Fibre Type B and also a Echolife HG 612 model FTCC VDSL NTE Router. I have Norton installed on the machine but there is only 1 day left on the subscription. I have tried a wired connection from the router but still have the same message. 2 other computers are wired to the router and all of our Ipads and Macbook connect wirelessly with no problems.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI`ve run into some trouble connecting to the internet after unplugging my router & modem yesterday and when i plugged them back in again i can`t connect to internet anymore.My computer have a wired ethernet cable connection and i also have a router (D-link DIR-635) giving internet to my iPhone & iPad.When i connect the ethernet cable from computer directly to the broadband modem i get internet without any trouble but when i connect it via the router, i keep getting "unidentified network" error i windows 7.Here`s what i`ve done so far trying to solve this,1. Uninstalled the driver for my network card (Realtek RTL8168C(P)/8111C(P) Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.20) and re-installed but without any luck..2. View 5 Replies View RelatedI have 2 Windows 7 desktops that are both connected to seperate vonage boxes and those vonage boxes are connected to my D-Link DIR-655 router. That D-Link router is getting its connection from a Comcast router. I am looking to get one of the desktops to share a printer from the other one which has it hard wired via USB cable. When I first set this up I did not have the vonage boxes and the desktops were connected right into the router and everything worked fine. Now that the vonage boxes are in place it is a mess. I can get internet fine on both machines, but no file/printer sharing. I have followed all the steps to setup the correct workgroup and file and printer sharing options on both windows 7 machines but they cannot see each other at all. My feeling is that now that the vonage boxes are there that instead of the desktops looking at the D-Link router for its sharing option they are looking at the vonage boxes and that is why they cant be seen. Does this make sense? Is there a firewall on the vonage boxes stopping these two desktops from seeing each other? Do I have to change something on the D-Link router options for it to give access to the vonage boxes for these 2 machines to see each other for printer/file sharing?

But going through the modem, I am noticing some drops in speed and spikes of high latency. This icon - the little earth/internet icon - has never flashed for a long period of time before. I've power cycled it (unplugged for over 5 mins) and it persists.
Does it need a firmware upgrade? Is it something I did? Faulty hardware?
I have been using a laptop to stream videos through my xbox for over 2years until recently. I setup a wireless network in the house to do this. All was fine until 3 days ago.I use a Dell Inspiron 1545 with Windows 7. I have a Dell Wireless 1397 Minicard, a cisco router (model #2425). Since my laptop was infected by Malware, my network has not worked since. I downloaded Malwarebytes Anti Malware to get rid of it and it appeared to work. I got internet access back. However, I still cannot connect to my network (visible in the Available Network list as normal) or stream any media.Windows Media Centre also has stopped opening and gives me the small box saying 'windows is checking for a solution', then closes with nothing. I can however open WMC if I right click and 'run as administrator'?! I have disabled all other network adaptors, only the Dell minicad is enabled and also tried disabling and enabling this main one with no effect. All problems point to the fact that my laptop can no longer connect to the home network but I cant figure out why?!Another (possibly unrelated) problem is occuring at boot up where I get an error message saying 'Bluetooth Software License not found. View 1 Replies View Relatedi purchased vaio with win8. Under network icon, I can not see any other computers in the local network therefore not able to access shares unless i explicitly map the shares which is tedious.
On other computers running win7 and xp, each of them can see each other under network icon.However that is not the case with my laptop running 8. Actually i have seen once or twice all pc-s show up but most of the time, they dont appear.
I read somewhere that following service need to be checked to make sure they are running: upnp, ssdp in services. I checked those and they are all running.
I also enabled "turn on network discovery" under network and sharing->advanced sharing. setting. To make it more complicated there are private and public and all network setting. I enabled all items as follows:
1. Private Turn on network discovery is checked along with Turn on automatic setup of network connected devices Turn on file and printer sharing is selected Allow Windows to manage homegroup connections is selected.
2. Guest or public Turn on network discovery is selected Turn on file and printer sharing is selected.
With these settings I still dont see the local computers and their shares. Do I need to check anything else?
I upgraded then downgraded from 2.00 to 2.03 back down to 2.00, and whenever I'm doing about 600kB/s+ it resets itself. Drops connection drops wireless, wired, and the globe internet icon goes Lambert/orange. I've reset the router to default and it still does that. What could be the cause?
I've done a lot of changing around, disabling unicast, changing from WPA Auto to WPA2, etc etc, I just changed the router to Netgear WGR614 v7 and it works perfectly fine now.

For example, computer 10.0.0.10 cannot ping 10.0.0.20 because NAT has been set up. Port forwarding does not seem to be an answer. Is it possible for NATted computers to be able to ping each other or not?

When connected, the network notification and icon appears at the taskbar and displays how many bar signal the network has and it was working even earlier this afternoon here. I just used my wired connection for a short time and as i stopped using it then i discovered the wireless connection bar signal is lost, all for me to see a ' Round Star' in the bar side of my internet icon. Am connected to the internet but i can't my connection signal and i tried to restore my computer but after i do that i get a dialog say 'The system restore did not completely succesfully because an anti-virus is running on this computer and has prevented it from changing the settings, turn off anti-virus ans try again' but i have no anti-virus program on my PC.

This laptop is pretty new and I had been experiencing some problems with Wifi and LAN connectivity to internet.
Initially there was a yellow mark over network icon but it allowed me to access Internet. I was not bothered then..Offlate this has turned ugly. The yellow icon would not allow me to connect to internet through wifi or LAN
Sometimes LAN would connect but now a days connecting to wifi has become a real task with most of the time having to trouble shoot the connection.
Troubleshooting gives me different suggestions which are as follows
a) DHCP not enabled over wireless networks....Trying to repair the same does not work
b) Your computer seems to have been configured properly.
c) Troubleshooting cannot solve the problem

I have previously connected to that same desktop and network using my laptop, but my desktop will not connect to it. It tries to connect for about a full minute, then it indicates that it is not connected. However, in the description lower in that window, it says "You are currently connected to this network." Any attempt to use the internet, however, fails, so it isn't really connected. Also, on the taskbar at the bottom, it shows the network as disconnected (red "x").

All works fine except that the device name that appears under "Network Infrastructure" in Windows 7 shows the original default name that Cisco assigned instead of the name I chose. It does not affect operation or performance but looks oddball. I don't see how it can be changed.

The network icon in the system tray shows a cross sign with a red color. I cant seem to be able to find a solution. Tried all the solutions listed in the forum. When i connect the lan cable directly into the laptop the internet works fine. But as soon as i remove it the cross sign again comes and i cant have internet access. I am having an Atheros Ar9285 Wireless Network Adapter installed in my device manager and everything is fine there with no ? or ! marks. I am using a Belkin router with in built modem.
