I recently update my DIR-825 router firmware to the latest one and now the upload and download speed is went downhill on all computers. There are 2 to 3 laptops, one desktop, wireless printer, xbox, ps3, and ooma voip phone connected. Everything is all connected wireless except the ooma device is hardwired.

I read this can be cos i send in mixed mode b/g. Is that true? How can I set to g only? I only can select "n only", "b/g mixed" and "b/g/n mixed". But I think all my devices use g.
Recently I have noticed my internet get slow. I use a comcast cable internet connection that is directly connected to my dlink DR 655. I use the megapath internet speed test [URL] when testing my internet speed. Have a laptop that is usually on wireless and an XP workstation that is connected to the 655 directly with static IP.
I would be browsing the internet and all the sudden the internet would get really slow. This would happen on both my desktop and the laptop and my speed test on both machines would be around .3 Mbps. When this happens I would go and connect the laptop with the ethernet pot directly to the modem. Of course a reboot of the modem has to occur before a connection can be made so once I do that all the sudden my internet is back up to par (12 Mbps). I go ahead and put my network back to the way it was and it all goes back up to 12 Mbps. I have called comcast several times and they are telling me it my router.
This picture shows a snapshot of some windows from the laptop. The CMD ipconfig on the bottom left shows the laptop network settings when connected directly to the modem. The CMD ipconfig on the upper left is the network settings when connected to the router. The web page on the right shows the WAN network settings when the 655 is connected to the cable modem.
Notice the DNS servers, they are different when the 655 is connected to the modem versus when the laptop is connected to the modem. Could this be part of my problem? I have not seen were I can manually change 655 DNS entries ... is there a way to do this? Or should I not even be worried about it?
I have had the DIR-825 since the beginning of the year connected to AT&T DSL Internet 3GB. I just upgraded to their 6GB download speed and didn't see any change in speed and suddenly I couldn't view my SlingBox anymore outside the house. I connected one computer directly to the modem, ran the AT&T speed test and got >5GB download and @700 upload. Wired via 1GB network back to the router, ran the speed test and it dropped to @4GB download and 120 upload.
I called AT&T, they checked everything, and said there was nothing wrong. I then spent almost an hour on the phone with D-Link including getting passed to 3rd level support. I knew something was wrong when the guy told me that since it was only a 1GB router, I shouldn't expect to get faster than 1GB Internet download.
The router is still running the 1.00 firmware and these are the changes they made me try so it's still sitting at these settings:
- Change the WAN from Auto 10/100 to 100 only.
- Change MTU to 1482 in my PPPoE settings
- Change Firewall Settings to turn SPI off. He said the router is still providing a firewall though.
He wanted me to download the 1.01 firmware but I balked and he said it probably wouldn't do any good. It ended with him wanting me to call AT&T back and set the modem to bridge mode. I then need to call them back and set the PPPoE again. This 3rd level support guy was very rude and am hoping to avoid calling them again.
Before I go through the hassle of calling AT&T and trying this bridge mode, or has the Elite 6GB service from AT&T and are having it work correctly.
I`m new here I recently purchased the dir-615. I started configuring with cd but i couldn`t get past the step where it should verify if cables are plugged in , so I did it manually. Some pages won`t load , internet speed is slow ( Both wireless and lan speed ) . I am using a PPPOE connection , I even got my ISP to check my settings, and he said it was alright but it reduces my speed by a lot. Usually I download with 1 MB/s with the router on wi-fi I hardly get 50 kb/s and on lan max is 100 kb/s.

Initially I had some issues with drivers but solved that and my internet was working perfectly for around 2 days. However recently the internet speed has dropped down to extremely low speed periodically for no apparent reason. I've bought a TL-WD841ND and was using it normally.
After I arrived from a trip, the internet speed by wireless and by cable is only 0,5~0,7 Mbps...
My internet connection is 10 Mbps, and if I plug direct on the modem, there comes the real speed (9,7 Mbps), but connecting by the router, the speed is 1/20 of what should be. Before my travel i was using it normal, and no one has changed any configuration.
So i've updated to the last firmware avaliable on the website. So i've rebooted it and the "configuration" LED keeps flashing...
I would like to know if this led flashing is normal: (here is a video that i've done: [URL] and what could be happening. ps: connecting by cable, the internet speed is also the same (even after the factory settings reset)...
I have a router that needs to be reset to get the internet speed back to a usable speed. It is a fairly old router (D-LINK DSL 2730B) and it does get quite annoying. There is allot of devices connected, which may affect the speed, but I am sure it shouldn't change upon reboot. I literally reboot every hour or 2 during peek periods.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI live in the tampa bay area, I have bright house (BHN) as my service provider, which provides a Road Runner Lightning (40/5) package. I previously used BHN's top tier (20/2) back in July (and prior) with no problems.
After converting to Lightning in August of this year (2010). Of course, BHN (and every other provider) wants to force a modem/router down your throat, so I had them bridge it (in short, turn it into a dummy modem with no routing). I had an SMC branded modem gateway at the time. I work from home 2 days a week (so I can spend more time with my kids during morning, lunch, right after work) and this requires me to use QoS to ensure my VOIP work calls don't get dropped, if the family is watching youtube videos or watching netflex.
My network was as follows SMC Modem >WAN IP>>WAN Port>>D-link DIR-655>>Switch Ports>PC1, PC2, PC3
Everything seemed fine (from a usability stand point) till about 2 weeks ago when my upload speed seemed to grind to halt. Normally I was able to upload about 200-300K per second, and I noticed this dropped to about 45K per second during a drop box upload. First thing I did was power cycle both my modem and router (in the proper/usual order). After they both come up, I start using speed test to find out what my upload speeds were. I was getting about 39Mbps down, but only .56Mbps up still. I factory reset my router.... test, similar speeds. Power cycle all computers (just in case), and then modem/router. Tested, similar speeds. Updated the firmware to the latest. Same issue
Called BHN customer service, they factor reset it, but it wasn't in bridge mode. If I by passed the 655, in factory mode (non bridge mode) upload speeds returned to better than expected states. If I bridged the cable modem, upload speeds seemed to crash.
Had BHN replace the modem, seemed fixed for a day, then issue came back. Had them come back out and replace it again, this time with a Motorolla Surfboard modem... same issue. Fine during factory reset, however after they bridge the modem, upload speeds were fine. Told BHN I would take it from there.. Connected up the DIR-655, and upload speeds crashed again. (.6Mbps). Called D-Link Support, and the Chinese English speaking rep seemed to not be listening to me and tried to have me adjust my MTU as well as Wireless settings. Long story short... the rep was a level 0 id10t and I hope D-link will consider hiring better employees/contractors. So I was all about to give up and replace it with a DD-WRT capable router (which it takes me a lot to want to swap hardware), when I discovered the wan shaping was on. Which I thought to myself... nah... QoS has never messed up before... why would it be the cause. Turned off wan shapping... and voila. Issue seemed to be insta-resolved.
Unsatisfied with that... I decided to dig a lil deeper. I turned on Wan shaping again, but decided to set the settings manually instead of auto detect.
Here are the settings I used... (Advanced Tab>QoS)
Enable Traffic Shaping - Checked
Automatic Uplink Speed - Unchecked
Manual Uplink Speed - 5000
Connection Type: Cable or Other Broadand Network
Enable QoS Engine - Checked Automatic Classification - unchecked (this checked seemed to affect my upload speed by about 5-10% during testing) Dynamic Fragmentation - unchecked (this checked seemed to be the worse enemy for upload speed)
While I know I'm not any network guru (still have to use a subnet calculator for subnetting), I think I did a pretty good job drilling down the issue (once I got passed my service provider replacing modems).
Anyways, I've had overall good luck with D-Link products, even have a 5 port 10/100 switch (all metal) from 1998 that works great. Hopefully, D-Link will just either put more documentation on the web, or hire better employees.
Are the users' download speeds depend on the hosting company's owner's internet speed? Let say if I was running my own server with my internet speed 1mb and LAN 100mbps, are my clients' download speeds restricted to maximum 1mb of any content from my server?
View 3 Replies View Relatedwhen I connect my DIR-655 to the Motorola SB6141 cable modem I notice that the link speed LED on the cable modem never glows blue indicating a gigabit connection, it only glows amber indicating a lower negotiated speed. I am using a Cat6 cable between the two devices and have also tried a Cat5e cable.
When I try and force the WAN port speed to 1000Mpbs in the router interface the cable modem link speed will not light at all with no connectivity. Only resetting to Auto WAN port speed restores functionality albeit at the lower negotiated speed setting.
I'm running the DIR-655 rev B1 at 2.03NA firmware level.
I did connect the modem directly to my PC that uses an Intel Gigabit ethernet card and still had the lower connection indication (Amber) so it seems that the modem might be faulty.
I have a DIR-655 that I have been using for a while (b1 revision). and suddenly I noticed my wifi speed fluctuates constantly. My lenovo Y580 sees speed drop to 130 immediately and then it can slowly progress to 1 Mbps until the hardware is all rebooted. Same happens to my Nexus 7, Dell XPS M1530 and to my roku. I have updated to 2.07 (since 2.10 is advised to avoid). And I have attempted changing channels or factory refresh.What Firmware version is currently loaded? 2.07What region are you located?

Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic. Independent of issue, not a factor
Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing. Wired works perfect.Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Cat6 is recommended. Wireless issue.
About 3 or maybe 4 years ago I bought a Dlink DIR-655 wireless router.On the box it listed it as an Xtreme N Gigabit Router, Wireless N (Draft N). I've had two Windows PCs connected to this router by Cat5 with "Intel 82562V-210 10/100 Network Connection" NICs on each set to "Auto detect". The link speed on the NICs show as 100Mbps.Also, I have an MBP and a Windows laptop that connects to this router at times, both with built-in wireless cards.I have Insight Cable and a 20Mbps download and 1.38 upload speeds.This router has worked great for the past years. Since it was getting a little old, I thought I would buy another just like it to have when this one defaults.I ordered a replacement from Amazon. The picture of the router at Amazon was the same as the one I have now.When the router arrived, it was a Dlink DIR-655; however, the router had a different faceplate and larger lights.On the box it listed it as "Xtreme N Gigabit Router". Also listed was N+ 300.
When I set the new DIR-655 up for my LAN and wireless, everything worked OK.However, I noticed the link speed on the NICs had dropped to 10Mbps.I can disable the NIC and then enable, or, unplug and plug in the Cat5 cable, and it will connect at 100Mbps for about 5 seconds and then revert back to 10Mbps.I returned the router to Amazon and purchased another just like it from Office Depot.The same problems are back.I have used the router set-up disk and have done a manual set-up. I replaced my old netgear router, which died recently, with a shiny new DIR-655 on my gigabit wired home network. Now I see that file transfer from my NAS is very slow (about 1 megabyte per second). I would like to check if the NAS has connected at 1Gbps to the router. I was browsing the "stat" or "attached device info" in the routers configuration webpage, but could not find it. To be precise, I do see the connection to the NAS, but there is no indication of the connection speed

DIR-655 has next settings for its wireless:
802.11g/n mixed mode
transmission rate: best
channel width: auto 20/40MHz
and WPA2 with AE
I've had a DIR-600 for years, and this past month it has been really bad. I have a 3mbps Cable connection, always worked fine and fast, but since the start of the month I've been getting, at most, 60kb/s of download speed (I have a wired connection to the router). Speed tests register everything as fine, except for the download speed, which is really unstable and shoots all over the place, going from 1MB/s to 0 in some instances. I thought it was the ISP being bad since we're having a lot of problems with this provider where I work, but got tired of it and decided to do some troubleshooting myself. When I connect directly to the modem, without the router, I get the same fast speeds I used to. I tried rebooting everything, I tried resetting the router to factory defaults, but nothing seemed to change that. DL speed is always below 60KB/s and if something is downloading at that speed, a single page takes a minute to load.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI recently picked up this router on clearance to replace a Linksys WRT54GS in the hopes that I would get better speeds for streaming multi-media (NETFLIX). I live in a single story home with a room over the garage (this is where my cable modem and Dlink router are located). To increase signal strength throughout my house I had previously purchased an EnGenius ERB9250 range extender (which supports 802.11N 300mbs), now all my wireless devices show full bars anywhere in the house. Unfortunately when I test my connection to the wireless network I seem to only be registering about 5 - 8 mbs. This really isn't any better than I was getting with my older Linksys, but I thought the Dlink could do up to 150mbs. I have verified that both my range extender and the router are configured correctly, and have tried disabling the QoS (read somewhere that it might drop signals). So far nothing I do seems to increase performance. Is this normal for this router? Am I being unrealistic in trying to get better performance? Is there anything special I need to do to increase performance? I downloaded several wireless sniffers and have set my router to wireless channel 6 as this is the least used by my neighbors (actually shows as 6+2).
View 11 Replies View RelatedISP is Comcast. The routers hardware version is A4 with firmware v.1.33NA. The upload speed used to be above 4Mbps but recently it has gone down to below 1Mbps. It comes back to above 4Mbps if the router is bypassed or the PC is directly connected to the modem.If I on/off power cycle the router, the speed comes back but only for short period. I tried a new DIR655 of hardware v.B1 with firmware v.2.00 but exact same problem was noticed. I tried my old spare router of Linksys WRT54G and no such problem was noticed.

It all started with my internet just kind of dying (mostly in the eavnings) and not working until i rebooted the router. So I call my internet provider and they tell me to update firmware and to plug the internet straight into my computer instead to rule out everything at their end.After some time I manage to update firmware. Problem with internet sill remain but is not as frequent. I left it like that for a couple of weeks, but earlier this week i checked my connection speed and it says i have only 50mb/s after the firmware update. Since i had the weekend off I plugged the internet straight into my computer and get my full internet speed at about 90mb/s. After plugging in the router again I only get around 50 again.

On the router, I tweaked settings to give him priority speed when he is gaming. Although he complains about his speeds and connectivity. In our 2nd floor office -- which is one floor and 30 ft through a wall away -- my signal strength varies from 45% to 70%. There are times when neighbor's networks show greater strength than mine does. I live in a house so the physical distance is much greater plus there are two exterior walls, no matter where their router is placed. The adapter in the office computer is a D-Link DWA-556.

When I was connected directly to the modem i had a little over 12.5 Mbps
Now I'm stuck at 9.5mbps and it won't go higher!
I read a bit over the forum. I tried turning off the QOS but it didn't change a thing.
Here a little extra information;
My internet provider is Cogeco
MY computer is wired
I tried 2 internet tester, both give me the exact same result
My DIR655 is A4 with firmware v.135.
My normal uplink speed is above 4 Mbps but the speed goes down to 0.4 to 0.8 Mbps. The above unit was received from D-Link as a replacement for the same reason, but it worked for at lease 12 hours.
If the power is OFF/ON cycled, the normal speed comes back but last only about 10 minutes.
I get from my ISP 50 Mbps upload/download link via BGP. I tried to test today the speed by downloading around 10 torrents simultaneously and I use PRTG Network Monitoring to view port traffic speed. According to PRTG Reports the maximum rate of speed I get is 20 Mbps. I use Cisco 2821 ISR on my side.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've got a Buffalo LS-WXL5BF connected directly to one of my PC's gigabit ethernet ports. The link in the Win7 network and connections is showing it connected at 1Gbit but the actual transfer speed tops out around 150-200 Mbit or roughly 15-25MB/s (which is well under what the unit is advertised to perform at.)
I'll be swapping out the cable that came with it for a good CAT5E I got from monoprice but other than that I'm not sure what to try.
I bought my d-link 615 a few days ago and managed to connect it to my network and so on but I have a problem when it comes to my download speed. My usual speed is somewhere between 7.5-8 mb/s but when I have the router installed it's limited to 5 mb/s. Do you know why this might be happening?
View 14 Replies View RelatedSo I'm on the 100mbps virgin fibre optic broadband, and for the past couple of days, every now and again my speed drops drastically. It's not the Internet, because I've tested it on my laptop both wireless and plugged in. Even my phone and iPad are getting higher speed.
When I first got the internet(About a week ago) my download speed was 100+ mbps, but now my Link speed is constantly at 10mbps, even if I set my NIC to 1gbps full duplex, I've tried disabling and re enabling, I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, updating drivers. Restarting the router, starting it in Modem mode.
