Thinking of playing with an appliance for Untangle. Let's say I do a D2700. Right now I'm running Untangle in a VM, which after some network tweaking, runs well given 1 vCPU on a box with an Intel X3440. My load average is real high (6 to 13) under really heavy load...pulling full 50Mb down, probably 300KB/s up...and about 900 sessions (heavy Bittorrent or something..worst case for me).

We are using BGP to the providers. From there we have big questions. We can run BGP internal and are licensed to do so on the N5K's. The N5Ks are currently using HSRP for inside LAN clients as default gateway. We want to load balance and provide redundant routes using a dynamic approach. Should we use BGP internal utilizing the connections between the routers? Should we use HSRP on the routers? How best to get the routes to the N5K and should we be considering this?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI decided to switch away from my DIR-655 wireless router due to multiple issues and go with an Untangle box. Everything appears to be set up great... except when it comes to my VPN connection to work via Juniper VPN Client v. 6.5.0.15507. For some reason, the VPN connection keeps dropping every 3-5 minutes and I have to wait for it to either reconnect, or sometimes the client completely stops and I have to restart it.

View 19 Replies View Related so I have a new Supermicro X7SPA-HF-D525 Mobo 4GB ram comming in and am wondering what firewall software I should put on it. This is for home use. Currently im running DD-WRT on an Asus 520GU, so anything is a step up. I have played with both, though Untangle only for about 20 or so mins on a VM, and pfSense for about an hr or so on an old P4.
By first glance at the untangle, one thing I didnt like was it looked like if I wanted anything I had to pay a yearly subscription for the same stuff that was offered for free or already included in pfSense. But i see alot of people swaring by Untangle.
I've been replacing my Netgear WNDR3700 (currently only serving as wired router and gigabit switch) with an Untangle box.Obviously, only the free "Lite" version would be worth it, as the others are priced ridiculously for non business use. I've had a hard time figuring out from their webpage how the features of the "Lite" compare to the others, particularly how Spam Blocker Lite, Web Filter Lite and Virus Blocker Lite compare to the full versions of each.
Is the untangle router any good? How do its management features compare with consumer solutions?The new web caching feature seems really cool too, especially when multiple systems grab the same large updates or download the same steam games, but at $54/year it seems a bit excessively priced for home use, so I'd probably just be sticking with the base free version.
Due to a cost savings campaign we are trying to use open source as much as possible. Does the ASA 5520 support a product called 'untangle' ?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI would like to make a design with 4 Nexus 5596UP. 2 of them equipped with Layer 3 Expansion Module so they can serve as core layer and the other 2 Nexus used as Layer 2 for aggregation server layer.The 2 Nexus in the core layer will run HSRP and will peer with ISP via BGP for Internet connection The 2 Nexus in the aggregation layer will be configured as layer 2 device and have FEX and switches connected to them.What I am ensure of is how the vpc and port-channel configuration should look like between the 4 nexus. What I was thinking is to run vpc between the 2 Nexus in the aggregation layer and between the 2 Nexus in the core layer. Than I was thinking of connecting each Nexus in the aggragtion layer to both Nexus in the core layer using port-channel and vice-versa.
View 3 Replies View Relatedhow to change our wireless setup. Currently, we have 2 Cisco AiroNet 1130 WAP's in the office that go directly into the 2 POE ports on our Cisco ASA 5500. These WAP's have 1 SSID and are using WEP for security. After demonstrating the flaws of WEP to my boss, he has agreed that we should use something more secure and I've suggested WPA. We want visitors to our office to be able to hop on our wireless but on a separate guest SSID with WEP.
I'd like the internal SSID to route to the ASA and take the default route to the internet (it will be our new fiber connection once it's installed in a couple weeks). The default route is whichever connection is working since our ASA 5500 will fail over when it detects an outage.
I'd like the guest SSID to route to the ASA and then go over our existing cable connection. This connection will be our backup once the fiber connection is installed. Since we won't be using it very often, but will be paying for it, I advised that we send all guest wireless traffic over this connection since 50/5 is plenty for guests.
The current SSID (which will be the internal SSID) has no VLAN. We do currently have a few VLANS on our network, one for voice (.42) and one for data (.100) and the default (.0). What device to I create the VLAN on (Cisco 5500?) and how to I setup the WAP? I need very basic instructions to start and I'm also trying to do this without causing downtime if possible.
I've attached a diagram of what it should look like. Red indicates our internal network and Blue indicates the guest network. I can send screenshots as well.
I run 2 RV042 V1 for home and office with Gateway to Gateway VPN connection with single WAN connection in use. Everything works like a charm!
I was even able to create VPN connection with 2 WAN connection on one Router and 1 WAN connection on another with Smart link failover and VPN Tunel Backup.
I got problem though when i tried more complex connection diagram. [URL]
So basically I now have 2 ISP connections on each point with Static IPs and I'd like VPN Connection to be alive for ALL 4 options automatically with failovers (smart links) And tunel backups but i'm not sure if that's ever possible with my equipment.
In my Company there is a core Switch 4500 series , to which in the 1st module servers are connected and in the second module 2960 , 3750 series Switches are connected, problem is that the Utilization of Core switch is very high and the core gets hanged. the configuration of the senerio is VTP domain i.e core is Server and the rest are Clients....

View 2 Replies View RelatedAny here ever used a Windows Server 2008 Core installation? Got one running on a VM right now, thought I'd try it. After installing VMWare Tools things really speeded up. Now gave it a static IP, installed Active Directory services (DNS along with it) and everything seems to work. The RAM usage is about the same, but so far it's been much more responsive, and it takes a lot less disk space, it needs just under 3GB for the moment. Any else here have one running, or seen one in a production environment? I don't think they're very common yet.

A 1002 will be the WAN router to the Main campus. The 1002 will connect to the core via 2 ethernet cables. I'm debating whether to use L3 or L2 between the router and Core. I've heard that routing is more efficient if L3 is used and also I will be able to create an L3 etherchannel between the 1002 and Core switch. See the attached doc.

I tried to implement WLC5508 in my network but when I came to connect it to the switch core which is a Catalyst 4000 the link didn't get up. This switch module is a fastethernet, I wonder if that might be the problem since I also tried connecting my laptop to the WLC and the link got up.
If that might be the cause, is it possible to get WLC to 100 Mbps?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI need your input on how to appropriately introduce an N5K with Jumbo enanbled to a prexisting Core Network (Stack of Cisco 3750G Switches) without making any major alteration on the Core configs (everything is happy). The idea is to move two High I/O servers to the N5K during a transitional phase. I already have a fair understanding of what Jumbo-Frames are and what it does. Keep Jumbo-Frames within the N5K ONLY.
Conditions:
- Traffic is Data traffic, not storage/iSCSI
- The servers host our ERP applications and MySQL that is accessed heavily by users
- N5K to C3750G connectivity is a Port-Channel consisting of 4x1GB ports
- The servers are to remain on VLAN 2 (Data VLAN)
- The Core Switch is L3 and the boundaries reside here
