Cisco WAN :: Dual MPLS Routers Connected To Dual N5K Core
Mar 29, 2012
I wanted to ask a question about the diagram I have included. We are bringing up 2 MPLS WAN connections and would like some specifics on the best design. We are using BGP to the providers. From there we have big questions. We can run BGP internal and are licensed to do so on the N5K's. The N5Ks are currently using HSRP for inside LAN clients as default gateway. We want to load balance and provide redundant routes using a dynamic approach. Should we use BGP internal utilizing the connections between the routers? Should we use HSRP on the routers? How best to get the routes to the N5K and should we be considering this?

I would like to make a design with 4 Nexus 5596UP. 2 of them equipped with Layer 3 Expansion Module so they can serve as core layer and the other 2 Nexus used as Layer 2 for aggregation server layer.The 2 Nexus in the core layer will run HSRP and will peer with ISP via BGP for Internet connection The 2 Nexus in the aggregation layer will be configured as layer 2 device and have FEX and switches connected to them.What I am ensure of is how the vpc and port-channel configuration should look like between the 4 nexus. What I was thinking is to run vpc between the 2 Nexus in the aggregation layer and between the 2 Nexus in the core layer. Than I was thinking of connecting each Nexus in the aggragtion layer to both Nexus in the core layer using port-channel and vice-versa.

I run 2 RV042 V1 for home and office with Gateway to Gateway VPN connection with single WAN connection in use. Everything works like a charm!
I was even able to create VPN connection with 2 WAN connection on one Router and 1 WAN connection on another with Smart link failover and VPN Tunel Backup.
I got problem though when i tried more complex connection diagram. [URL]
So basically I now have 2 ISP connections on each point with Static IPs and I'd like VPN Connection to be alive for ALL 4 options automatically with failovers (smart links) And tunel backups but i'm not sure if that's ever possible with my equipment.

I am attempting to install an asa 5510 at my hq. Our MPLS network is provided by our ISP and the routers are managed by them. They will be working with me to add the needed routes to the routers. Using version 8.4.1 That said, here is my challenge:
I am connecting the MPLS routers and WAAS device to my core switch(also performing inter-vlan routing) in VLAN 2. There are 3 connections needed for the mpls equipment and they are all in vlan 2 on my core switch. The firewall (ASA 5510 with security plus licensing) also has an interface (outside) in vlan 2.
e0/0
shutdown
no nameif
[Code]....
configuration guides or suggest TAC as they have been a bit inconsistent with this issue thus far. What am I missing because I cannot get to where inside interface of the firewall is pingable by the lan and the outside interface of the firewall is pingable by the lan.

Thinking of playing with an appliance for Untangle. Let's say I do a D2700. Right now I'm running Untangle in a VM, which after some network tweaking, runs well given 1 vCPU on a box with an Intel X3440. My load average is real high (6 to 13) under really heavy load...pulling full 50Mb down, probably 300KB/s up...and about 900 sessions (heavy Bittorrent or something..worst case for me).

I am putting together a solution for a client. The client has an MPLS circuit and internet as a backup circuit. I understand that we can do WAN failover using ASA5510 appliance.Now, if i am adding dual ASA5510 active/standby mode, How do i automatically failover WAN circuits to standby firewall if both MPLS and Internet circuits are connecting to primary ASA5510. Should i connect MPLS circuit to ASA1 and Internet circuit to ASA2? Ideally, i want both circuits to connect to primary ASA5510 for automatic WAN failover. My concern is , if the primary ASA5510 fails which has WAN and Internet circuits connected , do i need to manually switch connection from primary to standy? The goal is to fully automate wan failover and asa failover .

how to change our wireless setup. Currently, we have 2 Cisco AiroNet 1130 WAP's in the office that go directly into the 2 POE ports on our Cisco ASA 5500. These WAP's have 1 SSID and are using WEP for security. After demonstrating the flaws of WEP to my boss, he has agreed that we should use something more secure and I've suggested WPA. We want visitors to our office to be able to hop on our wireless but on a separate guest SSID with WEP.
I'd like the internal SSID to route to the ASA and take the default route to the internet (it will be our new fiber connection once it's installed in a couple weeks). The default route is whichever connection is working since our ASA 5500 will fail over when it detects an outage.
I'd like the guest SSID to route to the ASA and then go over our existing cable connection. This connection will be our backup once the fiber connection is installed. Since we won't be using it very often, but will be paying for it, I advised that we send all guest wireless traffic over this connection since 50/5 is plenty for guests.
The current SSID (which will be the internal SSID) has no VLAN. We do currently have a few VLANS on our network, one for voice (.42) and one for data (.100) and the default (.0). What device to I create the VLAN on (Cisco 5500?) and how to I setup the WAP? I need very basic instructions to start and I'm also trying to do this without causing downtime if possible.
I've attached a diagram of what it should look like. Red indicates our internal network and Blue indicates the guest network. I can send screenshots as well.

This is frustrating I owned the router for about 2 weeks. my 2.4ghz is out. Basically I connect to the router on 2.4 can get into the tp-link admin webpage for the router but no internet at all. if I switch to 5 ghz everything works great, or if i use direct connect wire everything is great. I tried disabling NAT but that shut down all my internet connections across all links and manually switching to channel 1 did nothing at all i also tried channel 7. Ideas why only 2.4 ghz is affected out of the blue all of a sudden?

I'm setting up a Cisco wireless mesh. The APs are all dual-band 3602s connected to a controller. So, let's say I'm broadcasting both 2.4 and 5.1GHz at the same time for the same SSID. Which frequency does a wireless client connect through, assuming the client supports both? Is there a way to default to one (say 5.1GHz) then fall back to the other, or is it strictly a matter of signal strength? (In which case, from the testing I've done, 2.4GHz almost always has a stronger signal strength.)
Or, should I broadcast separate networks (e.g. "work-network24" vs "work-network51") and manually authenticate/authorize against the appropriate band based on how I want to distribute load across the radios and spectrum?

Our current topology is a single N7K with two 48port 10Gb F2 linecards and FEX 2224TP in the server racks. In a few of the racks that house important servers, we have placed dual FEX 2224's. Each FEX has 2 10Gb links back to the N7k (each link on a separate LC). I've tried to create a port-channel for the important servers in such a way that each NIC on the server is connected to a separate FEX - but its failing (simple drawing attached). I've read multiple posts saying this is possible, and others that say its not. I've also submitted a TAC case and have been told it's impossible to port-channel interfaces on separate FEXs connected to a single N7k - but I find this an impossible limitation and want to verify it's actually right. Is this really a limitation?

I have a Netgear 600 dual band router connected to a DOCIS 3.0 cable modem with a 25mps internet connection from my ISP, should be fast right? When I run a speed test on my comp I get 10-13 mbps download on average. Here's the issue, upon visiting my mothers house and running the same speed test I got very similar results. She is running a Lynksys G router on a DOCIS 2.0 cable modem with 12mps connection. My question is, how can this be so, am I at the limits of my comps g network card? as a disclaimer I would like to note I am connected to the G band on both routers.

We are connecting to a Cisco DPC3825 cable modem supplied by our ISP. It has been configured to act as a switch only. They have supplied us with 2 static IP addresses.
When each WAN port is connected individually, everything is fine. I see the IP addresses on the respective WAN port, and it is working fine.
When I connect both WAN ports to the modem at the same time, I see a large amount of traffic between the WAN ports, as indicated by the port LEDs, and the RV042G becomes completely non-responsive through its web interface.
How do I get the RV042G working with both WAN ports connected?

I have a client that is requesting redundant internet connections using 2 7204 routers to 2 asa 5520 in an active standby configuration. There is no load balancing requirement this is strictly for failover. The issue that I am having is that I have to have 1 of there public IP addresses on the Lan side of the 7204 for the ASA connectivity. Because of this both routers advertise out their public subnet to the respective providers, but the issue is that when the wan link on the primary router fails and traffic traverses the secondary wan the return traffic comes back in the secondary wan and stops because it sees the link to the asa as being up even though the asa is in standby. No matter what route manipulations I do a directly connected route is alway going to be better. How I can get this to work. Below is a rough sketch:
Verizon------Router A (Primary)-----ASA A (Active)--------------Nexus1
| | |
| IBGP | Keepalive | VPC Link
| | |
AT&T---------Router B (Backup)-----ASA B (Standby)------------Nexus2

I use a RV082 with dual Wan and I cannot configure two SMTP.
Without authentication; a SMTP is specific of the provider.
When WAN1 comes down, SMTP to be used is the SMTP corresponding to WAN2 and vice versa.
Implementation of authentication with the mail server wil be useful. Possibility of two mail servers with indication of the corresponding WAN is also useful.

We have a RV082 configured with two ISP Wan connections. We recently implemented a VOIP phone system (SIP) (192.168.1.50) that is being used in appliance mode on our network. We currently have two WAN connections Load Balanced. My goal is to configure all my VOIP traffic to go out through the 1st ISP and the rest of the data through ISP #2. is this possible to achieve using the RV082? We are using a Skype SIP Trunk connection.

RV082 configured for Dual WAN [Code]....
(2) identical DSL connections, configured as Static IP (not PPPoE) with modems in bridged mode. Static IP's are /25 subnet and same gateway ** this may be a problem? Dual WAN set for Load Balance, network service detection is OFF
We have a 2003 terminal server running and successfully receiving connections through both WAN connections. Depending on location, half the users are connecting to WAN1 IP and the other half to WAN2 IP. We are getting sporadic disconnects of the remote users when they are idle for a couple minutes and automatic reconnection of the session takes over a minute. If they close the (locked up) session and reconnect manually it will let them in right away.
Could the handling of the Dual-WAN be the culprit? Could the same gateway for both WAN's create this issue upstream (out of my control)?I am going to move everyone to connecting through WAN1 and then change to Smart Link Backup and see if the issues persist.
Another thought is to use a secondary IP on the terminal server and use Protocol Binding to match "All traffic" for IP1 to WAN1 and IP2 to WAN2, which theoretically would stabilize the situation?

I just upgraded from RV-042 to RV-042G on 24.Dec.
My previous connections are : (1st) 100Mbps ISP connection, (2nd) 200Mbps ISP connection (fibre to home)
Before upgrade, my RV-042 worked very stable.
After using Migration Tools by exporting RV-042 current config and converted to V3 configuration, the converted configuration was imported to RV-042G.
In beginning, RV-042G woks fine after imported converted configuration file. Unfortunately, after around 1 hour of use, my iPad (through an Apple Airport Extreme Station) and wired PC could not browse internet.
But, port-forward to 3 IP-cam still be able to access by my iPhon4 through Carrier 3G connections.
After a reboot of RV-042G, internet connection comes back. But, after an hour of use, the same issue happened again.
RV-042G makes me fluctuated. I will fallback to RV-042 from now on and wait for any further firmware improvement from Cisco/Linksys.
My previous RV-042 and current RV-042G config:-
* WAN1 : 100Mbps ISP connection
* WAN2 : 1Gbips ISP connection ( 200Mbps max throughput)
* LAN1 : connected to Apple Airport Extreme
* LAN2 : connected to Linksys 16-port FastEthernet switch
* LAN3 : idle
* LAN4 : connected to an Intel i7 PC
* Dual WAN link mode with bandwidth management, all internet connection from PC will stick on WAN2

I'm in the process of finding a dual WAN router with VPN support, that allow me to redirect some traffic to one specific WAN port and do load balancing of that specific traffic in case of that WAN failing (this last requirement is preferably but isn't fully needed).
Does the RV042/G could work with that? In that case, does it allow protocol redirect only? What about ip/ports redirecting? Or some kind of packet filtering to redirect to specific WAN ports?

I bought a RV042G router some days ago to manage 2 adsl lines at my home. Everything works correctly except one thing : i can't configure the bandwidth management. When i go to "Bandwidth Management" menu, then "Bandwidth Management Type" then i choose rate control or priority and i a had some rules to priorize http protocol for example, then i click on save button. After a few seconds of internet usage i loss connectivity to the router and internet and 192.168.1.1 became unreachable to ping. I had to unplung the power cord to restart the router, the same problem still occurs until i remove all the rules ! Some times i even had to do a factory reset because my adsl modems are unreachable behind the router (unable to ping the gateway).
