Feb 21, 2013I run 2 RV042 V1 for home and office with Gateway to Gateway VPN connection with single WAN connection in use. Everything works like a charm!
I was even able to create VPN connection with 2 WAN connection on one Router and 1 WAN connection on another with Smart link failover and VPN Tunel Backup.
I got problem though when i tried more complex connection diagram. [URL]
So basically I now have 2 ISP connections on each point with Static IPs and I'd like VPN Connection to be alive for ALL 4 options automatically with failovers (smart links) And tunel backups but i'm not sure if that's ever possible with my equipment.

Aug 19, 2011I've been having a lot difficulties to get Cisco RV042 v 3 run on both WLAN ports. I've tryed in Smart Backup Link and Load Balancing .... nothing.What I want to do is:
1 web server in LAN lets say IP 192.168.15.2
1 dns server in LAN lets say IP 192.168.15.4
I want to have the router running as Smart Backup Link in case one of the internet connections fails (I will say that the DNS server handles most of the domain names on the web server so it needs to be publicly available as well, and the main domain name of the web server is managed by independent DNS server somwhere in internet, so it has mechanism that can be use to change the entries let say DNS round robin way).
1. WLAN1 with PPPOE and WLAN2 with static ip by the second provider LAN fasion, ports forwarded to the web and the dns servers - NOT accesible. Router firmware latest version 4.
2. WLAN1 with static ip by the second provider LAN fashion, network normal operating but cannot access the server on port 80.

Dec 10, 20122 router to connect my phone system to a Sip trunk provider router and to extend my Lan segments so the phone system have internet access.i need it this way because i cant put 2 default gateway in my phone system so the cisco Rv042 is the default gateway of the phone system and i use port fowarding of the UDP ports 5060 to point to the system.and i also use protocol binding of these ports to the Wan 1
Phone system connect to a switchport The sip trunk router connect to the Wan 1 My lan is connected to the Wan 2 Everything is working fine exept this intermittent issue : Each hour or so my sip trunk stop working. to make it start working i need to unplug my Wan 2 connection and wait for 1 minute.

Jan 7, 2013I'm in the process of finding a dual WAN router with VPN support, that allow me to redirect some traffic to one specific WAN port and do load balancing of that specific traffic in case of that WAN failing (this last requirement is preferably but isn't fully needed).
Does the RV042/G could work with that? In that case, does it allow protocol redirect only? What about ip/ports redirecting? Or some kind of packet filtering to redirect to specific WAN ports?

Dec 23, 2011I have my RV042 set up in Dual WAN mode and both WANs are working properly. I would like to configure WAN1 to handle all traffic, unless it fails and then have everything to go to WAN2. Pretty much what Smart Link Backup does, however with that enabled only 1 of the WANs is live at any given time. I'd like both WANs to always be live as I'm going to see the second one as a back-door into the network. Is this possible to do with routing? I tried setting a routing rule to have everything to go WAN1, but when WAN1 goes down, nothing is rounted via WAN2.

Sep 19, 2012I have an RV042 (it's old, silver/dark grey plastic front one) w/ firmware 1.3.13.02-tm.
The reason we bought this (long ago) was to balance two WAN connections, one with unlimited data and one capped monthly. It did that once, but for a couple years both connections have been unmetered so it's just been balancing them 50/50. As of today one WAN connection (the new much faster one) is back to being metered but I can't figure out how to configure the RV042 as it once was to prefer sending traffic over the slow, unmetered connection first, and only use the faster metered connection when necessary.
It's been a long time and honestly I only vaguely remember the ability to prioritize a connection based on % of bandwidth used so that all traffic would go over the unlimited connection 1st until it was flooded, and only then fall over to the metered connection. This is totally different than the weighted round robin, or smart link backup.
I found this 3rdparty forum post that supports that vauge memory and suggests this was eliminated between firmware 1.23 and 1.3: [URL] Is it possible to replicate this functionality with the current firmware? if so how? If not, how to do roll back to firmware 1.23?
It sounded like perhaps I could assigned WAN1 a bandwidth of 100000 (even though it's really 1500) and then assign WAN2 a bandwidth of 1 (even though it's really 20000) and the result might be the prioritization I'm looking to achieve... but I feel like I'm stumbling in the dark at the point.

I can configure DHCP and it works fine but I can't find where I have or can configure Option 150.

Sep 14, 2011I have tried replacing a loaner RV082 V2 with an RV042 V3 router with firmware 4.0.4.02. All worked well, including the site to site VPN. However, in spite of the fact that I have ports 443 and 4125 forwarded to the server (192.168.2.10), we are unable to connect via RWW. There is no such problem with the RV082. What is different with the way we configure these V3 routers for port forwarding?

For now I have connected the server to the DMZ port, but I am unable to to access it from WAN, only from LAN. How to configure properly the 2 subnets (192.168.0.0 and 192.168.5.0) and how to forward my static address to the server which I which to be on the 192.168.5.0.

Dec 14, 2012I'm trying to set up an RV042 as a gateway for our home network. I've cloned the MAC address of the cable modem attached to WAN1, and have set up WAN1 to obtain an IP automatically. The System Summary page shows under WAN Status that WAN1 has been assigned an IP address in the right range for Comcast, the provider. The default gateway address looks good, and the DNS server is, in fact, Comcast's main DNS server for this area.
However, when I go to System Management > Diagnostic, the router is unable to resolve basic domain names (e.g., www.cisco.com) or ping addresses outside the LAN. I can ping the router itself successfully. Attempts to access the web through the router fail on domain name look.

Jan 28, 2013RV042 router is giving out the outer certificate instead of server certificate. Outlook anywhere is failing and we are receiving certificate errors for any secure site behind this firewall. I'm not talking about remote management. I'm talking about people trying to access our web site, which is secured, and getting an error because the RV042 is giving its own SSL certificate instead of the Server's certificate. Firmware Version: 1.3.13.02-tm. I don't see any updates for that hardware. I do have it working on an RV042 with the same firmware at a different location. Aug 15, 2012 We have setup a new internal web server so now we have two internal web server and both or hosting sites on port 80. Currently we have port 80 forwarding to one of the web servers and users are able to hit it from the outside.
Is there any way to configure the RV042 to route web traffic to the correct web server by using the site name or dns? If a user puts in the address{URL}, be routed to one web server but if they put in {URL}, be routed to our second web server. I've checked with our vendors and the both web servers applications need to run on port 80. If we have forwarding setup on the RV042 to forward port 80 to web1 then users can't access web2 from the outside?

Would like to make the WAN 2 (new cable modem as well) the primary connection over WAN1 (DSL), however whenever I switch from WAN1 to WAN2 in Smark Link set up, our email server will not send mail out, even though nothing is blocking the connection.

In the router's logging utility, there doesn't appear to be any log entries indicating either successful or failed attempts to connect to PPTP server. The only access logs I see are for access to the router's configuration utility. Is there a way to view PPTP access in the router system log?

Oct 3, 2012I have a RV042 router. The problem that I am having with it is that the DHCP is giving out the wrong Default Gateway and DNS Server. There is no option to change the DHCP server IP on any of the settings pages on the router. I am begining to think that there might not be a way to do it. I see that there is an option for the DNS under the DHCP page but the Public IP that is being handed out is not the one on that page. I also have 2 WAN connections hooked up as well a DSL link and a Cable link (the cable link is the primary one).
The following information is provided in an effort to resolve this issue:
IP of Router 10.0.0.2
IP of DHCP Server (the one that is being handed out):10.0.0.1

Jul 25, 2011First of all i have gateway 2 gateway VPN configuration (both same RV042 with same firmware) + QVNP clients
The first one that i have those lines in my log "Ignoring Vendor ID payload" which doesn't allow clients to be connected from the first time they connect after several retries, or can't connect at all. I've doublechecked ports opened, and 500 is blocked by ISP. Also double checked, tried turning on and of Windows machine firewalls and etc - nothing worked. What would be the solution? should i manage to call my ISP and ask opening the port and it will solve my problem? HTTPS is enabled on router (this one i read in other topic)
The other problem is that one of my routers just stuck and i have manually to turn off, and then to turn on that it would start working as it was. Log files doesn't show anything. Router started to crash after the last Firmware upgrade.

Our server is at located at location A and locations B and C telnet to the server via a VPN. We're looking at getting another ISP at each location as a backup and abandon older modem backups.
Would I setup a VPN tunnel between (A and B) and (A and C) for each ISP? Also I had a question on local IP addresses and if this would work

Mar 29, 2012I wanted to ask a question about the diagram I have included. We are bringing up 2 MPLS WAN connections and would like some specifics on the best design. We are using BGP to the providers. From there we have big questions. We can run BGP internal and are licensed to do so on the N5K's. The N5Ks are currently using HSRP for inside LAN clients as default gateway. We want to load balance and provide redundant routes using a dynamic approach. Should we use BGP internal utilizing the connections between the routers? Should we use HSRP on the routers? How best to get the routes to the N5K and should we be considering this?

I recently purchased an TL-WDR3600. Setup was easy. Both wlan channels work perfectly. All clients can connect to the internet and access my lan connected NAS. I have some wlan devices which needs to be connected sometimes by http: port 80 and also by telnet or ssh. I can connect from a wlan device to a lan device. But NOT from a wlan to wlan or a lan to wlan. I allready diabled WMM and tried some other wlan settings, like disable one channel, changing the channel width etc.
My setup is : ADSL device -->(192.168.1.X dhcp) WAN TL-WDR3600 --> to LAN&WLAN (192.168.0.X dhcp and some LAN connected with static 0.200, 0.210)

May 20, 2007Having a problem everytime I try to use load balance on my Rv042 it is slow as a dog and sometimes wont connect at all. if I run in smart backup mode its fine. removed firewall rebooted everything tried numerous configerations upgraded to the latest frimware just about to be convinced
