DIR 655 - How To Change From Coax To Ethernet

Jan 24, 2012

So I got a new router (DIR 655), but I forgot Verizon FIOS is using coaxial cable in my house. I looked around and seems like I can just call them to have it switched to ethernet connection. Would that cost extra? Or can I just do it myself? I don't have FIOS TV btw.

Enterprise Media Converters For Coax To Ethernet And Ethernet To Coax?

Feb 23, 2011

I work for a place that has its own TV broadcast system. From the central site we have contracted fiber connectivity to each of our 10 remote locations. To each location we currently have fiber for data (1Gbps) and fiber to transport our TV channels. Am am looking for a device that can take in our TV channels on coax and give me an rj45 ethernet connection so I can plug the unit into a data switch to use our data fiber for everything (if I need 10 units at the central site to do this, that is fine).taking the ethernet back to coax to distribute TV to all of the TVs in the building. This would eliminate me 10 point to point fiber links.

DIR-655 Frontier FiOS Went From Ethernet To Coax?

Jul 12, 2013

I moved from an apartment where they had run ethernet to a jack for me to plug it into my own router, it was nice. My new apartment the installer came over when i wasn't there (my gf was there) and he installed a coax jack next to my router and supplied a huge frontier box (wireless router/modem). And then connected it to my router.

After much configuration I finally got it to run good on my router, and I started wondering if I'm going to get the same latency and speeds as it was on ethernet straight from the box. I'm paying for a 30/10 connection. I'm sure the coax is enough, but it's the cheap Frontier box and coax connection together that I wonder about.

My ultimate question is, I have an old motorola DOCSIS 3.0 Surfboard modem (when I had Comcast) that I have laying around, will it work with it? I assume it will be better. I really dont need all the junk that this huge Frontier box has. I just want a good connection.BTW my router is a DIR-655.

Xbox360 / Accessing Internet Through Coax?

Oct 29, 2011

i'm trying to connect my xbox360 to the internet. I'm upstairs, my modem and router are downstairs. I'd prefer not to have to get a wireless adaptor for my xbox, but if that's the only way, i'll settle with that.We have Comporium internet. I can get cable if I hook a cable box up to the coax port in the wall upstairs. I have been looking at coax to ethernet adaptors, hoping I could go from the coax in the wall, to the adaptor, right into the back of the xbox. Is this possible?

Cisco :: Using Coax Cable Between MGX And 3845 Router

Sep 26, 2011

Using particular coax cable between a MGX and a Cisco 3845 router. The router has a NM-1A-T3/E3 network module (most likely since the label that the guys onsite saw at the back of the router says 1A-T3.The MGX meanwhile has a AXSME-16T3E3 front card and a SMB 8TE (?) back card, based on what our client said. There is presently a miniBNC-to-BNC coax cable connecting the MGX to the 3845, muck like the picture below. There are CRC errors on the ATM interface and the client would like to replace this cable. Unfortunately, I cannot find the exact Cisco cable for this.

Setup Coax / MoCA / WRT45G Second Access Point

Jan 28, 2013

I don' know how to setup the LinkSys WRT45G (v2) router properly for the way I want to have things wired. I have Verizon FIOS in basement with MoCA enabled coax line going into a splitter, running lines throughout the house. The main router (Actiontec MI424WR) is on the first floor, east side of house connected by coax and the area I want to put the second access point (LinkSys) is on the second floor, west side of house. So very weak wireless signal where the LinkSys is at. I used a Actiontec Verizon Coaxial Network Adapter to plug into the coax outlet in the 2nd floor room. Then run an ethernet cable from that unit to a older LinkSys router WRT45g (v2). I wanted this router to provide a wireless access point and also a place to plug a Sonos unit into. On the back of the router is the usual RJ-45 port and the 4-port switch. I have the line coming from the moca adapter (source) going into port 1 of the switch, the Sonos 5 plugged into port 2 of the switch. I am able to connect and control the Sonos units about 50% of the time like this, but sometimes nothing can be found. I believe this is because my phone can not connect to the wireless when I am upstairs, anotherwards the LinkSys router is not working right. If I plug the ethernet cable from the MoCA adapter into the RJ-45 interent port (like I think it should be, since it is the source), then nothing works. Also, I do not know if the router is functioning as a wireless access point, I am suspecting it is not.The router still has stock firmware, has DHCP disabled, the security and SSID identical to the primary router.

Realtek RTL8168D/8111D PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC Won't Detect Ethernet Cable?

Aug 8, 2012

I am having a problem with my Realtek RTL8168D/8111D PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC. It is not detecting my ethernet cable, and thus leaving me without internet on my desktop, after i updated its driver. The cable is not the problem as I have tested the cable with my laptop. I tried rolling back drivers, doing system restore and removing drivers with driversweeper and letting windows install the drivers again. However, none of these worked for me. I doubt the NIC is faulty as it was working before i updated the drivers. I am using windows 7 home premium 64-bit.

Wireless Versus Ethernet / Does Ethernet Have Less Ping

Jun 11, 2012

I just got a CAT .5 cable, and plugged it into modem/xbox and IDK... it works, I'm online, but basically my question is:Does ethernet connections have less ping (better) than wireless connections? This is with the Xbox 360 Slim. I know it improves upload, and download, but what about ping?

Ethernet Port Not Recognizing Ethernet Cable?

Apr 30, 2011

I have a Dell XPS M1530 with Vista 32 bit. When i plug in a cable i get nothing, no error, and the comp does not recognize that a cable has been plugged in. I think that this started after my Hard drive failed and Dell replaced it but i'm not positive. No errors (? or !) in Device Manager and I can't find the Marvell 88E80XX 10/100 Ethernet Controller in device manager. I have attempted to Reinstall the drivers. The wireless is still working. I have one Light to the right of the port that is on all the time solid but no flashing with the cable in or out.

How To Change Routers

May 8, 2012

Two years ago I got wireless internet, and when I did, my internet provider sent a wireless router that I have been using successfully with no problems. But the other day, my fiance noticed that we are being charged a fee for using the router provided by the internet provider, and so he decided it we should skip the fee by buying our own wireless router.I've tried hooking up the new router I got a few times but it doesn't work. I already have an existing network and all, and the internet always works when I plug in the provider's router, but when I plug in the new NetGear WNDR3300 router I bought, it doesn't even acknowledge that it's hooked up to the internet and I don't know how to get it to connect with my existing network so that I can send the provider's router back.

This creep told me that this had spread to 1000+ people and they all had my IP address. I am so scared! If everyone has my IP address anything could happen. How do I change my IP address without it messing up other settings in my computer and how do I remove this virus from my computer?
