View 4 RepliesI use my desktop for streaming media throughout the house. I found it was causing lag for gaming most likely because it was taking up all the bandwidth for the router. We had a 2nd router laying around as well as a 2nd wireless adapter so we set up a 2nd network that was not connected to the internet for strictly media streaming.I attempted to change the network settings so the internet connection appeared as a public network so that streaming of media was hopefully diverted to the non internet wireless adapter.I want a faster way of transferring large video files from my laptop to my desktop. I recently bought a crossover cable to do this through direct connection. Both use the same user name and password as well as run the same win 7 pro however the desktop is the 64 bit version. I set up both ipv4 with the same addresses. When it has worked I am only getting a connection speed of just over 10mb and once I connect the crossover cable between the computers it knocks out my internet connection on the wireless card.
View 5 Replies View RelatedSimply put, a wireless network was set up with a network name and password in a senior community of primarily beginner users. Recently the name and password became changed to that of a community member named, let's say, "Joe". After addressing the router several times to change things back - only to find that the network name reverted to Joe - I changed the router password from admin to a unique pw and I confirmed that Remote Management was off. Next day... it was Joe again

View 1 Replies View RelatedIn my restaurant, we currently have a password protected wifi network for customers and staff. The load is typically light, so it's worked fine. Now, we're putting in a new cloud-based point of sales system, which effectively means that I need a totally uninterrupted, high quality wireless signal running to the POS terminal (in this case, an iPad). If the terminal is sharing that connection with 15 customers Facebooking on their iPhones, I imagine we'll have some signal issues. I'd rather not install a second network dedicated to the POS terminal. Are there any other possible solutions, i.e. a way to give priority to the terminal over other connections? A way to "split" the existing network so only a portion of it is available to customers?
FYI, current network speed is 20/mbs 2/mbs, and the POS terminal requires a minimum of 7/2 mbs.

Now they are back, the problem is occurring and this time I have as many router settings as I can find to maybe aid in the solution. This is the problem:We have a wireless network where the physical equipment is not available to users and yet, the local network name and password continues to be changed wirelessly FROM say, "ABC network" with network password "ABC secret password" to "Jimmy's Network" and network password "some new string of letters and numbers". View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an established wireless network, using a wired Dell desktop (XP), wireless HP G70-250US notebook (Vista), wireless HP Officejet 650 E709n printer, and Belkin N600 router. To make a long story shorter, both my cable company and Belkin were involved to set up the router a few months ago, and I was assigned an SSID and password that I now want to change. I've received emails from Belkin on changing it at the router - but when it comes to my notebook computer, how to establish a network - I'd like to know how to change the SSID and password in an already-established network, once I've made changes with the router. I'm assuming this is possible? It is my understanding that I don't need to make any changes with my wired desktop, other than to use it when making the router changes? I'm a little familiar with the network configuration setting process with my printer, so am pretty sure I can handle that.
