Oct 12, 2011I am switching a switch connecting to the ASA5550 tomorrow. My current switch is using fiber connecting to the ASA. The new one only support copper. If I switch between fiber to copper on the ASA (change media-type command on interface) will it cause a down time? I have VPN tunnel on the ASA and don't want the session to reset.

Apr 18, 2012I've enabled the Media Server on my E3000 router. My PS3 can see the server and play media from it by my PCs can't!
I'm using Windows Media Player v 12.0 on Windows 7 and some older version on Windows XP and it's my understanding that the Media Server should appear under the "Other Libraries" section but it does not.
Am I doing something wrong? Is there a bug in the E3000 firmware (I have the latest as of this date) or is the Media Server simply not compatible with Windows Media Player? compatible media player for Windows 7?
I did read a post about a firmware upgrade on the 4200 that broke the media player, but I don't know if such a problem exists for the E3000.
Home Network :: Get The Most Out Of New 100mbps Virgin Media?
May 11, 2012Virgin Media just upgraded my broadband to 100mbps. My main PC is in a place where unfortunately I cannot hard wire it to ethernet, and also the wifi signal is a bit rubbish - therefore I have been using D-Link Powerline AV Homeplugs DHP-307 200Mbps (N.B. I am fully aware that 200mbps doesn't really mean that through homeplugs, please read on)
Ages ago when my I first set this up my connection speed from Virgin Media was 50mbps and, after installing, I tested it a few times and got about 45mbps, which I was happy with.
However, due to the upgrade I thought I would test it again, and now I'm only gettin about 20-25Mbps. I did some diagnistic checks as follows:
A laptop plugged directly into my router via ethernet got 97 Mbps My laptop sitting next to my PC connected via wifi got 54 Mbps My PC connected via wifi with the ethernet/homeplug disconnected got 26 Mbps (I think my wireless card in the PC and the aeriel are both a bit rubbish though anyway)My PC connected via ethernet homeplug with no wifi got 23 Mbps
What I don't understand is:
1 - In the configuration utility for the homeplugs it says that the link speed for this plug is 96 Mbps, so how come that's not coming through?
2 - Why would it have one time been higher and now not? If it wasn't for point 1 above I might put it down to interference in the elecrical circuits, but I thought that's what the link speed would be showing me
I guess the best option would be to try and get VM to install a proper ethernet port in my study, however I can't imagine how they would do this without running cables through the house, which I don't want, so I'm trying to exhaust other options. I'm happy to ditch the homeplugs if there is something better.

I have Tversity media server running on a computer connected to the TWC, but my PS3 which is connected wirelessly to the TWC combo can't see Tversity. What am I missing? Do I need to forward some port from somewhere? FYI, I'm set-up this way so my N router can deliver full N speed, and my G devices connect to the slower TWC router. Everything sees the internet with no problem. Also, to note that devices connected to the D-link can see Tversity, but devices connected to the TWC cannot see Tversity

Nov 3, 2011For some reason today my desktop stopped being able to share media with other computers and devices.I mainly use PS3 Media Server to stream and download content to multiple devices including my PS3, Xbox 360, iPad, and iPhone. Now none of those devices can see the server. I tried restarting it, restarting my computer, and updating to the latest version.I've also tried turning on other media servers like TVersity and Windows Media Player and none of my devices can detect any of those either, so there must be something wrong with my desktop's networking (but it can still get internet). I haven't made any changes to my home network since yesterday (the last time I used my media server).My desktop runs on a wireless network with a Broadcom 802.11g Network Adapter, my router is a Netgear WGT624v4, and my cable modem is a Toshiba. Mar 10, 2012I have been using the e4200 for about a week. So far, so good! However, a primary reason I purch it was the ability to share via USB across my network (Files and such). Read the approved USB drives that r compatible and although my specfic drive was not listed (WD, my Passport) I connected it to the e4200 and set a folder called "movies"to share. In this folder I have both bluray rips (25-32GB) and standard rips (5gb or less). Regardless of source, the content was not playable. It buffered like crazy. So, is it as simple as using an approved USB drive and I will be able to share appropriately?
The same folder plays great when connected directly to one of my media streamers USB drive, so don't think the drive/source is bad.
Linksys Wireless Router :: E3000 Shared Media On Network
Feb 11, 2012I have a 1TB USB hard drive attached to my E3000 (current firmware), I use it for FTP and Shared Media on my network. Recently I have noticed that I have files out there that have 0 KB in size (file names/details are still these), I re-upload the files to the folders and during the upload the correct file size shows but a bit later(within minutes) they all show 0 KB again. I have not seen this type of behavior on an HD before. Additionally, I added some 20 mp3 files to the FTP site, same thing happened but then I zipped up the 20 mp3 files and the zip file uploaded with not problems and is still there with its proper file size, of course this is not a solution when I want to play media files on my TV.

My home network is setup through a Linksys E4200.I was able to successfully configure it to save to a folder on my PC, but I do not want to leave it running 24/7.I believe the breakdown is in the Authentication part of the setup... It asks for the Windows username and password, which works fine for the PC setup but not for anywhere else. Do I use the UN & PW for the home media server if I'm saving to one of its folders? If so, how do I correctly type the path? It is communicating with the folder and leaving an alphanumeric file saved inside the folder when I use the 'save and test' option, but it breaks down from there.

How do I get it to work with the E3000? I want to be able to transfer and stream media files to my media player using SAMBA. Sep 28, 2010So I am on my second HDD with Iomega. I am thinking now that this is a router problem rather than a HDD problem. I have a 1TB Iomega home media network drive, eversince I bought my router and began using it I have been unable to use my HDD. It is hard wired to the router via RJ-45 cable and both units have been reset and powered up in about every order you can imagine. I have reset factory defaults on the router and made security changes to ensure there was nothing blocking that port. I am at wits end. I cannot connect to the HDD and the drive flashes yellow and blue indicating it cannot estabilsh or receive an IP address from the router.

I have opened port 80 and 443 successfully and included the above port range above as well, but when I check it on www.yougetsignal.com the ports 50500-50599 are still closed. I even tried to split the range in two parts, and still no success. I have been in contact with my ISP and confirmed they do not block any ports in the 50500-50599 range and that the cable modem (a Motorola SBV5120) is operating in Bridge Mode.

Aug 4, 2011I recently replaced my Linksys WRV54G with a Linksys e2000 where I stream H.264 vido in 480p from one computer connected over gigabit to my Media Center running on Windows 7 64 bit connected at 10/100.
Before the router change, I was able to playback video over the network with no problems. If I connect the Linksys WRV54G again, the issue goes away. The Linksys WRV54G does not have gigabit and I have read related issues of video stuttering over gigabit.

Jan 25, 2011I use my desktop for streaming media throughout the house. I found it was causing lag for gaming most likely because it was taking up all the bandwidth for the router. We had a 2nd router laying around as well as a 2nd wireless adapter so we set up a 2nd network that was not connected to the internet for strictly media streaming.I attempted to change the network settings so the internet connection appeared as a public network so that streaming of media was hopefully diverted to the non internet wireless adapter.I want a faster way of transferring large video files from my laptop to my desktop. I recently bought a crossover cable to do this through direct connection.Both use the same user name and password as well as run the same win 7 pro however the desktop is the 64 bit version. I set up both ipv4 with the same addresses.When it has worked I am only getting a connection speed of just over 10mb and once I connect the crossover cable between the computers it knocks out my internet connection on the wireless card.

Cisco :: Waiting To Initialize State In LMS 3.2
Jun 13, 2011About 1-5 times per week I will find the jrm process showing as "Administrator has shut down this server". I have written a script that 2/day checks the status of the jrm process and if it is down, restarts it (pdexec jrm). About 25% of the time the jrm process will then show a status of "waiting to initialize". The only way I have found to recover it to shut down CiscoWorks and restart it (takes about 25 minutes). Why it would shutdown or how to get it restarted after the initializing state?
