Cisco Infrastructure :: CAB-ATM-DS3 E3 COAX With Ferrite Beads
Mar 23, 2013
I need BNC Coax cable that is longer than 10'. However, I notice when i went shopping for 15' or 20'. They don't come with Ferrite Beads.
Question: do I need Ferrite Beads on the cable that is longer than 10'. If yes, can I used the standalone beads which sells seperate, does all ferrite are the same?

I work for a place that has its own TV broadcast system. From the central site we have contracted fiber connectivity to each of our 10 remote locations. To each location we currently have fiber for data (1Gbps) and fiber to transport our TV channels. Am am looking for a device that can take in our TV channels on coax and give me an rj45 ethernet connection so I can plug the unit into a data switch to use our data fiber for everything (if I need 10 units at the central site to do this, that is fine).taking the ethernet back to coax to distribute TV to all of the TVs in the building. This would eliminate me 10 point to point fiber links.

So I got a new router (DIR 655), but I forgot Verizon FIOS is using coaxial cable in my house. I looked around and seems like I can just call them to have it switched to ethernet connection. Would that cost extra? Or can I just do it myself? I don't have FIOS TV btw.

Using particular coax cable between a MGX and a Cisco 3845 router. The router has a NM-1A-T3/E3 network module (most likely since the label that the guys onsite saw at the back of the router says 1A-T3.The MGX meanwhile has a AXSME-16T3E3 front card and a SMB 8TE (?) back card, based on what our client said. There is presently a miniBNC-to-BNC coax cable connecting the MGX to the 3845, muck like the picture below. There are CRC errors on the ATM interface and the client would like to replace this cable. Unfortunately, I cannot find the exact Cisco cable for this.

i'm trying to connect my xbox360 to the internet. I'm upstairs, my modem and router are downstairs. I'd prefer not to have to get a wireless adaptor for my xbox, but if that's the only way, i'll settle with that.We have Comporium internet. I can get cable if I hook a cable box up to the coax port in the wall upstairs. I have been looking at coax to ethernet adaptors, hoping I could go from the coax in the wall, to the adaptor, right into the back of the xbox. Is this possible?

I moved from an apartment where they had run ethernet to a jack for me to plug it into my own router, it was nice. My new apartment the installer came over when i wasn't there (my gf was there) and he installed a coax jack next to my router and supplied a huge frontier box (wireless router/modem). And then connected it to my router.
After much configuration I finally got it to run good on my router, and I started wondering if I'm going to get the same latency and speeds as it was on ethernet straight from the box. I'm paying for a 30/10 connection. I'm sure the coax is enough, but it's the cheap Frontier box and coax connection together that I wonder about.
My ultimate question is, I have an old motorola DOCSIS 3.0 Surfboard modem (when I had Comcast) that I have laying around, will it work with it? I assume it will be better. I really dont need all the junk that this huge Frontier box has. I just want a good connection.BTW my router is a DIR-655.

The RG-59 coax cables that come with the 1310 bridge are only 1 foot long. where I could get longer cables as the power injector is quite a distance away because there are no close power sockets. Instead of installing new power sockets near to the bridge, we wanted to simply run longer coax cables.

I don' know how to setup the LinkSys WRT45G (v2) router properly for the way I want to have things wired. I have Verizon FIOS in basement with MoCA enabled coax line going into a splitter, running lines throughout the house. The main router (Actiontec MI424WR) is on the first floor, east side of house connected by coax and the area I want to put the second access point (LinkSys) is on the second floor, west side of house. So very weak wireless signal where the LinkSys is at. I used a Actiontec Verizon Coaxial Network Adapter to plug into the coax outlet in the 2nd floor room. Then run an ethernet cable from that unit to a older LinkSys router WRT45g (v2). I wanted this router to provide a wireless access point and also a place to plug a Sonos unit into. On the back of the router is the usual RJ-45 port and the 4-port switch. I have the line coming from the moca adapter (source) going into port 1 of the switch, the Sonos 5 plugged into port 2 of the switch. I am able to connect and control the Sonos units about 50% of the time like this, but sometimes nothing can be found. I believe this is because my phone can not connect to the wireless when I am upstairs, anotherwards the LinkSys router is not working right. If I plug the ethernet cable from the MoCA adapter into the RJ-45 interent port (like I think it should be, since it is the source), then nothing works. Also, I do not know if the router is functioning as a wireless access point, I am suspecting it is not.The router still has stock firmware, has DHCP disabled, the security and SSID identical to the primary router.

Got a customer who is considering using 1/2" plenum to feed APs instead of twisted pair. The coverage target is a medium traffic office space with a focus on voice, data and video. Are there any concerns in using coax rather than twisted pair?

how far apart an Aironet 1410 Bridge can be from the Power Injector (Dual Coax feeds). I just can't find the specification details. The device comes with a 20' and 50' F-type and I'm looking at 150' runs for both ends of the bridge pair.

I am managing a Cisco 881 with Adv Ip Services ( CISCO881-SEC-K9). It has IOS 15.0(1) M8 on it. I see that there is a new IOS version 15.2M&T that (I think is applicable), and I have read the upgrade procedures for upgrade via USB and TFT.
If I install it will my license for Adv Ip Services be preserved or overwritten. And if the latter, do I need to export it and reapply it? If so, what is the process?

I have an ME2400 running private V LANs. The primary V LAN is 20 and the secondary V LAN's are 21 and 22. Currently, management traffic is still on V LAN 1. My question is now that the ME2400 does not have anything plugged into v lan 1; the line protocol goes down, which means that I can no longer access the switch remotely. Is it possible to keep a SVI up up even though nothing is plugged into that V LAN? If so, how do I go about doing this?

My company purchased a PAK for ASA5505-SEC-PL a while back. I found it unopened and need to know if it can be used, without activating it on an ASA. I opened up a case with the Cisco TAC, provided them the PAK serial number and got the following responses from 2 different individuals:
1.Since the product was covered under warranty and then expired this means that the activation key was used before.
2. This PAK number is expired since (Warranty End Date 21-Feb-2009).
I responded that I am not interested in warranty information but I just want to know if the PAK can be used. Just because the warranty expired, does that REALLY mean the PAK can no longer be used? That doesnt make sense to me. Isn't there a tool on Cisco's website to put in the PAK S/N to see if it is available, has been used, and if so, when?

I am going to be updating the IOS on our Cisco ASA 5520 from verion 7.0(8) to 8.2(5). I am also going to setup AnyConnect. Are there any major changes in the 2 IOS versions that I need to be aware of or will the config work in either version? Also, we are currently using the Cisco VPN Client to connect to our network. Will that still work after the upgrade?

Is the configuration information for each of the access points that has joined a wireless lan controller stored somewhere specifically in the configuration screens? I enabled the power injector override on one of my access points which is plugged into a POE switch and of course now it will not stay up for more than a few seconds. Therefore I cant just go to the wireless list and modify the configuration there. I cannot seem to find it anywhere else to change it and bring it back up.

I have recently had to rebuild the cookie information for a cisco 877 series router due to it being erased by an electrical surge.
I've successfully got it running again by copying the cookies from an identical router (obviously changing the serial numbers and so forth so it passes its verification checks).
The last piece of information I need is the Chassis MAC Address. I don't want to use the one from another router since there will probably be conflicts.
I tried following this Field Note, even though it isn't specifically for my model and it didn't work.
[URL]
how I can get the mac address from the system somehow?

We have been deploying ASA 5500 series devices for longer than I've been around. We have always used a script from a tftp server that would use the "wr net" command to send the running-config to the tftp server for daily backups. The script was setup to automatically name these "hostname-mm/dd/yyyy" for each device. We cannot seem to get this working on devices running ASA 8.43. In fact I can't even get the "wr net" command to work from the ASA at all even though I have the tftp server defined correctly (note this is going over the "outside" interface so I always get the warning regarding using the interface with the lowest security level). I'm sure there is something out there that I have overlooked, however I have not been able to come across this. Have there been any changes in the setup, or functionality of the wr net command or the tftp configuration with ASA 8.43?
