View 6 RepliesI have a Dell Precision 340 and I went to connect my modem and wireless router to the PC via my ethernet cable. When I hook it up, my computer says new hardware ethernet controller and wants me to add it. When I try to add it, it will not let me and wants me to add the hardware via a disk or CD rom, which I don't have. Because I can't get the ethernet cable to work on the PC I can't get internet, however the wireless router still works......
View 6 Replies View RelatedI did a clean install of Windows 7 32-bit on a Dell Optiplex 980. I don't know what driver is for the ethernet controller. Will you tell me? I just downloaded the INTEL_825XX-GIGABIT-PLATFORM_A06_R290983.exe (5MB). I don't know if this is it. I will try on Monday. Should I update the chipset driver too? What is the driver for that. I downloaded Intel_AMT-HECI_A05_R304259.exe (10MB). Is that right for the chipset?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI did a fresh install of Windows XP recently on my Dell Dimension 4550 and I'm having trouble getting on the internet. In the Device manager it has the '?' next to Ethernet Controller. I've read the other articles on this site but nothing has worked as of yet.I did another fresh install of XP (2nd time) and then started with the Chipset for Intel, still nothing.
The order for drivers installation says to install the DSS utility first, but I can't seem to find it in the Drivers & Downloads section for my Dimension 4550.
we just reinstall window xp because of some viruses. now that we put in our wireless notebook card window xp say ' Found New Hardware'

View 4 Replies View RelatedI installed a fresh Windows XP Pro on my Optiplex gx270 last week. Everything was fine but now I cannot get an internet connection. I followed all the steps on the dell support web site for the windows reinstall, putting all the drivers on in the correct order, all from my original resource CD. Then downloaded the new recommended driver for my service tag from the dell site, and still no ethernet controller driver is found (a yellow question mark with an exclamation mark on top in windows device manager). Tried a couple of times with the dell online chat, but was disconnected right away. Then spent another 1+ hour on the phone with dell tech support this morning. After uninstalling and reinstalling the same drivers I had previously installed, they apparently had no other suggestions and disconnected me. So I'm left with what was a pretty decent machine that is incapable of connecting to the internet.

There doesn't seem to be a driver on the PC for it, although this may be dowon to the PC having a slight "accident" a few months ago which meant we had to reinstall XP. I don't have the utiliites disc, this wasn't a problem previously as we were able to connect our PC up via USB to the modem.
I have an old PC currently connected to the Internet trying to download the drivers from Dell's support section & tranferring these but this isn't working either.
I recently purchase a refurbished Optiplex GX620 with WXP Professional OS. The ethernet controller, along with number of devices, needs a driver. I have downloaded what I think are the approprite files but get the message that the unzipped file is part of a series of disks and I need to insert the last of this series of disks. I ain't got no stinking disks!

I’m trying to connect to a network with WPA Personal security. When I go to Network Connections, it sees the network and recognizes that it’s using WPA, but I can’t connect to it. I enter the password and it tries to connect but doesn’t. I’m sure the password is right because other computers (Windows 7 and Mac) connect with no problem. I thought Service Pack 3 could handle WPA and WPA2.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a laptop here that I can't seem to turn wireless off on via the switch. While the obvious choice is hardware failure, it's nearly a brand new Dell Precision M6600 and I hesitate to jump to conclusions.
The physical switch on the system will not toggle wifi on or off; it is always on. I can disable it via Windows (Win 7 Pro), or simply disconnect from the network, but when I do it does not remember the wifi passwords, which may be a separate issue.

View 1 Replies View Relatedi have a Dell Precision T3500 tower running Windows 7 Ultimate. This was built and shipped in March 2011 equipped with a EMEA Dell Wireless 1520 PCIe card, which has a wireless antenna attached to the port. The PC is about 30ft from the wireless router, a BT Home hub. From outset I noticed that I was gettimng very slow connection speeds to the internet, but supposed this was because our broadband was using a standard BT line with copper cables, and we are some 3 miles from the BT exchange. I was getting speeds of around 300-500kb/s. BT have just finished installing BT Infinity in my area, offering 'up to 40mb/s' speeds. I upgraded on Friday of last week.
Here's the problem: we have three laptops in the house and they are now all getting between 15mb/s-20mb/s speeds, including my Dell Inspiron laptop which is using a Dell Wireless 1501 Mini Card to connect wirelessly. Sat next to this laptop is my Precision tower, with the wireless antenna. However, the PC is getting a speed of only 3mb/s.The modem and router are obviously working fine. Forget 40mb/s, I am quite happy with 15mb/s. But why is the PC wireless speed so poor?. For a brief five minutes or so on Friday the PC DID get 15mb/s but not since then. I cannot see any way to configure the wireless card to increase the speed.I tried disabling the Dell network adaptor, and installed and plugged in a Belkin USB wireless adaptor (on which my wife's PC had achieved 15mb/s) but this slowed the wireless even more - to around 100kb/s.
How to successfully get a Dell Wireless 1397 to work with Windows 2008 x64? I have a Precision M4500 that I managed to install Windows 2008 x64 R2 on. I installed the Windows 7 drivers for the card and the Device Manager says the device is working properly. But when I go to enable the device, it acts like it is enabling it, but the properties always say "disabled".

View 1 Replies View RelatedBecause of a virus, I recently had to reinstall Windows 7 on my laptop. Upon restarting, I found out that I cannot connect to the Internet using a wired connection (Ethernet cable). I tried going in the Device manager to try and troubleshoot the Network Adapters, but the only object in that category was "Intel (R) WiFi Link 5300 AGN". In a lower category, "Other Devices", I see two "Base System Device", one "Unknown Device" and one "Ethernet Controller", all of them with little yellow exclamation marks on the icon. I guessed the problem was the Ethernet Controller, so I tried "Update Driver...". It told me that it could not find a driver for my device.
