View 1 Replies View RelatedI am new to setting up wireless router connections. I used to get internet from my neighbor using my Dell wireless 1450 adaptor Model D1450U. That neighbor has left the area so I went and got my own modem and wireless router. I have a Netgear WNDR3400 wireless router and a zoom 5341G modem. I set up the cable connection and everything is working fine with my roommate's new Dell XPS laptop. I am having problems even detecting my main connection (Home 1) using my desktop computer and the dell wireless 1450 adaptor. My dell adapter does not locate the network I created, but it can find the 5g and the "(Home 1 guest)" networks that I create, however it can not connect to them. I made sure I was typing in the correct passwords, but it still can not seem to connect.

I have a Netgear DGN3500 wireless modem router that I'm trying to setup on my Dell desktop "Dimension C521". I get the error message "Ethernet adaptor required". I'm not sure why I am encountering the error message, as I have successfully installed a modem previously on the desktop via a ethernet cable.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm starting this thread because I can't get my new Linksys AE2500 wireless use adapter to connect to my new Linksys X2000 ADSL modem. I purchased both of these devices because my old 2wire modem kept dropping the wifi signal and I had to keep turning off and on the modem in order to get the wifi signal back. Now my problem is that I can't connect my AE2500 adapter to the x2000 modem at all, heck I can't connect any wifi enabled device to the modem even though the SSID and password is correct. The adapter finds the network but it can't connect to it at all. The x2000 modem works perfectly since I can use the internet if I connect my computer to it via Ethernet cable but unfortunately I have my desktop in my room and the modem is in the living room so connecting using an Ethernet cable really isn't an option. I tried using my old 2wire modem to see if it would connect to that modem and it did as a matter of fact and the speeds were good but as of late, the speeds have been horrible and the signal drops every few minutes. I get 1 bar in the network status and speed of 1.0 Mbps. Here is a picture for reference:
The problem only persists when using wifi though because when connected to the 2wire modem, the speeds are fast. Range isn't really a problem because im like 10 feet away from the router so I'm not sure what's causing that problem. I assume it's the modem being that its about 7 years old so I would really like to get my x2000 working to see if it's better than my old 2 wire. I'm currently connected to my old 2wire modem via my AE2500 wireless usb adapter as that's the only way I can use the internet. Here's my info:

I'm currently connected to an ISP whose modem is equipped with a wireless router. The router works fine, however, its range is too short. I tried configuring my Cisco Linksys WRT120NL to the modem and the internet does not go to my computer.

Everything works well except if for some reason my modem disconnects from ISP I can not log into it through the route to reconnect it. I must plug a direct cable into modem from computer run connect script then plug modem back into router all is fine again.
why connecting to modem through router is blocked?
I can think of from different cables, factory settings, etc. Can't connect to modem straight from computer for some reason, but my old linksys wrt54g still works. I can connect to the router wirelessly and access settings fine. When i try to use cisco connect, the install stops at 25%
View 7 Replies View RelatedI just moved into a new place with a DSL modem and am using the connection from the old tenant until my internet gets set up a while from now. I can plug the ethernet straight from the modem into either my laptop or desktop, and it works perfectly fine. But when I plug into my LinkSys 2500 router, it can't connect. I've tried rebooting the router, the router and the modem, plugging the modem back in first, plugging the router back in first. Nothing. But all I have to do is pull the ethernet cable from the internet port and click it into my laptop, and voila! internet. My name isn't on the account so I can't call the ISP and see if there are any special connection instructions, but I suspect there aren't any based on just being able to plug a computer straight into it.

If I connect the linksys directly to the modem, I'm not getting an internet connection. I've released and renewed IPs to no avail..
but if I hardwire the linksys to the netgear, I do get a good solid internet connection. problem is, I have no need for 2 routers setup on top of each other.
basically, I dont understand why linksys is not able to connect directly to the modem. yet it gets solid connection hardwired through another router.
I'm using Comcast and in south FL. it's a motorola surfboard modem
Purchased today 26th March 2012, used CD first as warned, followed procedures, will not connect to WAG 160N modem router. WAG160N has MAC restrictions but MAC of WRT160N added, both in wireless and as a computer. Still won´t connect, gets to 85% in wireless connect mode then fails, gets to stage 4 of router recognition and fails, saying check cables. Cables changed to know working ones, still no success. Tried pinging 192.168.1.1 direct from computer with no success, no access to router log-in page at all. WAG 160N has no problems.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI cannot connect my Dell Inspiron 1300 through the NetworkManager "wired" connection, when I try to go direct to the cable modem. It fails to connect. If I connect the cable modem to my (linksys WRT54GS) wireless router, and then connect my laptop to a wired port in the router, it connects in seconds, successfully, This has happened to me 2 other times, when I tried to connect my laptop to a client's cable modem, because my client did not have a wireless router available, in their home. My wireless works fine. This has me perplexed. I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and NetworkManager Applet 0.8, I've tried some things to see what is going on, such as "ifconfig" "dhclient" as well as modifying the "Auto eth0" parameters and adding my laptop's MAC address, etc.

Right now my router is configured as Automatic DHCP with the modem doing the PPPoE connection. All is fine and well.
Since I own a PS3, and Nat Type 3 conection is really bad for my online gaming, I would like to bridge my modem and connect to the internet through my router. That way I can properly forward my ports, use QoS and effectively get a better connection on the PS3.
I was able to successfully bridge the modem, but the PPPoE config on the router isn't able to connect to the internet.
Modem and router have been reinitialized after the configurations were changed. I do have the username and passwords, and they were properly put on the router.
Upgraded my E3000 from 1.0.02 to 1.0.04 and now I cant get an ip from my arris modem. I did the 30/30/30 reset and everything but no luck. I've had to plug the modem directly into the computer for now. Where can I find the 1.0.02 download or how can I fix this?
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy Motorola SBG901 Modem/Router combo has stopped connecting to the internet. I have done all the troubleshooting with Comcast and with Motorola and it is out of warranty, so I will have to purchase a new one.In the mean time, I wanted to use it only as a wireless router connected to my Scientific Atlanta DPC2100R2 modem. Is there anyway to do this? Is there a way to disable the modem in the SBG901? Simply connecting with the ethernet cords has not worked. I connected the DPC2100 to the SBG901 via ethernet cord. My computer was able to pick up a wireless connection but there is no cable connection.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have rather huge connection at home. DL speed 80Mb, UL speed 3Mb.When I connect my PC directly to modem and configure PPPoE connection, I get 81Mbits/sec. When I connect my old ASMAX $30 router, I get 78 Mbit/sek. And I find it OK.But when I connect my EA6500 I get 28 MBits/sec. Same result on wire as on wireless connection. Of course If I enable prioritisation, I get even less, 12-15 Mbits/sec.I tried already even configuration with ASMAX as wired router and EA6500 connected to its LAN port. It gives me 50Mbits/sec.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just got internet and cable at my apartment the other day. My roommate and I got Cox Cable and my roommate had a used Linksys router to connect to the modem. I'm not sure how the Linksys was set up (I'll get that information soon), but the internet worked for her without her having to connect her laptop to the router. When I tried to use the wifi, I was never able to connect properly. It would say that I was connected to the router, but that I wasn't able to use the internet. Then I tried to connect the laptop to the Linksys router with a ethernet cable and the internet worked. Also, after I unplug the ethernet I am able to use the internet, but the connection goes out every so often. I also wanted to use my PS3 with the wifi, but at this point I doubt it will work unless I find some solution. As for specs, the Linksys is a Model # BEFW11S4 ver. 4. Oh, and now my roommate is having the same problems now.[CODE]

I plug it in via a USB port and can connect to the internet that way. This is most confusing and frustrating. I took the computer to work and had the IT department look at it but they had no answers for me.this same computer has recently been connecting to a different wireless modem so I am at a loss.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was trying to work with a friend set up his wireless router. He had the Geeksquad come and set it up and I have no idea what they did. A mess of wires. I noticed that I was able to log into the imbeded browser of the modem and the router from the main PC. I didn't think it was possible to log into the modem if it was set up in bridged ethernet mode. His internet is working but I was thinking that he may have problems with double NATing.Basically, I just want to know what options there are for setting up a router to a modem. I'm aware of bridged mode and setting up the router as a switch (not real knowledgable of this one). Seems like DHCP is enabled on both devices.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently reinstalled my OS of my E1505 and was installing drivers from the Dell Resource CD (which was for an ME051, is this a problem?). But, after installing all of the drivers and system software my Intel ProSet Wireless program still says there is no supported wireless adapter on the computer...I also cannot create a connection when I connected the laptop to my hardline DSL cable.
In addition, the video card driver will not install saying that one or more files needed to complete the install were missing and it closes the install wizard. Just in case any of you can answer that as well.
