Intel GT 1000 NIC / XP Pro SP3 PC - Driver Update Fail
Nov 12, 2011I have an Intel GT 1000 NIC installed in my XP Pro SP3 PC.I downloaded the driver update file for this NIC: "PROWin32.exe", version 16.6, dated 9/30/2011 for Windows XP 32 bit.The install failed with the following error message: I emailed these details to Intel Tech Support but have not yet heard back from them.
I searched my PC for "VC90_CRT_x86" and found it in many *.cab files but not as a single file anywhere else on my computer. How to get the new driver to install? I'm using the GT 1000 because the Realtek NIC that is on my MOBO failed a couple of years ago.

Sep 17, 2012I know now that this is a Desktop motherboard, officially not supported for Windows Server operating systems, but I would still like to get it to work. I've confirmed that the motherboard network works in WinXP (Intel 82579V Gigabit) and typically the 32-bit Windows XP drivers work on Server 2003 as well. Several of the other drivers have installed just fine, but the network driver install package fails with "No Intel Adapters are present."
I am trying to install Windows Home Server v1 (based on Windows Server 2003) on this box and just want to get a basic network driver up and running. I've checked the BIOS config, and Device Manager shows a yellow question mark by "Ethernet Controller". The ID is:
PCIVEN_8086&DEV_1503&SUBSYS_20408086&REV_043&11583659&0&C8 but I don't really know what to do with that...

May 4, 2013I share my internet with other gadgets via an ad hoc WiFi network via my laptop running Windows 7 Home premium. The range covered is extremely bad. At as less as 10 meters away, in an open hall, from the laptop sitting on my home office desk the signal is weak - it shifts between zero and one "curve" on network notification icon on my gadgets.The signal is non existent in the floor immediately below. (The floor is made of reinforced concrete.)

Apr 9, 2012I checked the NIC Properties and the Speed & Duplex only shows the following 10 half, 10 full, 100 half, 100 full and auto. There is no 1000 half and 1000 full. My old gigabit NIC on my old computer shows all, 10s, 100s, and 1000s and the auto. They tried to fix it and even changed the driver but it still is not showing the 1000s. Their option was to change the motherboard with a refurbished one and my computer was just bought just 2 months ago. The original computer had 12GB memory, I7, AMD graphics card, 460 PSU. no blue-ray, no usb 3. The new setup is 16GB memory, I7, Nvidia GeForce GT 550 Ti, Usb 3, Blue-ray, I think 800 PSU.I am running Win 7 Home Premium 64. I have a Gigabit connection from my internet service so I wanted the NIC to go that fast too. The specs shows the computer to have a Gigabit NIC but the properties is not showing the 1000s.

Nov 4, 2012reliability of the ET dual port server adapter. I have a Windows Server 2012 hyper-v host thats used to run all of the vm's I use in my house on an ASUS P9X79 WS motherboard. The board comes with 2 Intel gigabit nic's, one of which is an Intel server nic. Ever since installing Server 2012 it only registers one onboard adapter for use and the other isn't. Because of this I am planning on getting a second server grade network adapter for the vm's to use and have the onboard dedicated to management only. The only thing currently holding me back is if the OS will properly detect and run the network card in a non-server motherboard? Any insight as to if it will work on my board or not? Google has only revealed uses on server boards and not workstations.

I have a dell e6500 with a Intel 82567LM Gigabit LAN card that always connects at 10Mbps when I plug in the ethernet cord when I am on battery power, I've tried using different routers (I have two gigabit routers and one 100 mbps router)... it still auto-negotiates at 10 mbps I've tried using different cat6 cables, it still auto-negotiates at 10 mbps.I've checked the drivers, I have 10.0.6.0, which is the latest from the support.dell.com website.
However, the minute I plug in the laptop, the NIC connects at the proper speed. Essentially, when the laptop is using battery power, the NIC decreases it's speed to 10 mbps. When I plug the laptop in, the speed jumps up to what it should be (either 100 mpbs or 1 Gbps, depending on which router I'm plugged in to).
So, how do I disable this feature? I want to connect at the maximum possible speed, regardless if I am plugged in or not.

Sep 24, 2012I wiped out a Dell Inspiron 2200 and re-installed Windows XP Pro SP3 on it. Everything seemed to work fine until I try re-installing the Wireless Driver. The dell support website pointed me to the Intel PorSet/Wireless 11.1.0.30, which I downloaded and installed successfully, with the only problem.... It does not work.When I open the utility it pops a message saying that the "Driver is not installed", and no signals show or anything. When I go to the device manager, the OTHER DEVICES shows a "network controller" with the yellow question mark, but when I connect to the internet (via ethernet cable) to update the driver, windows can't find nothing out there to solve the issue.

Kept all the disks shipped with the lappy, Prepped the HD per the media rules, loaded windows and the mediadirect and the driver resource CD.. they all had autoexecs and seem to run fine. Failed to connect to the net.. checked it out on device mgr, found the code 10 fail.. All other drivers seemed to have loaded..
tried to update the driver.. it said it already had the correct driver. - fail
DLed the Broadcom driver to a thumb and installed it - no difference. Rebooted.. several times during all this.
Read here it might be install order - thought I might try it manually. Looked for Intel T7250 drivers.. "not currently available" here.

Jun 14, 2011I have the same issue and have been surfing the web for the solution for quite some time. Brand new Sony VAIO laptop with blu-ray has an Intel WiFi bgn 1000 wireless network adapter. It worked fine for couple of days, until i brought it to work. We use wireless connection in our office. Maximum 7 computers are connected at a time. All other 6 laptops connect to our network with no problems (all of them are on win7x64). Now, back to the problem. Wireless works at home and at work in the evening , when no one in the office. I've removed all 3rd party software, uninstalled Intel software. Am using clean driver from the Intel website. Tried different revisions of the driver - issue is still there. I've contacted VAIO support. This is not known issue to them. They offered standard actions (unisntalling the driver, power management options, enabling VAIO Smart Network). No updates of fixes on their support website. I have also checked in the event viewer. There is only one service being enabled and disabled constantly (TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper) - which is happening at the same time with wireless drop. There are about 5-8 drops per minute. Computer browser service disabled. Firewall disabled, antivirus disabled. We assume this could be an interference with mobile diveces. While now, we have disabled all wireless cards on all computers, switched off mobile phones. And... AXAXAXAXA!!! BSOD 0x00000018 (0x000....00, 0xFFFFFA800754A750, 0x00...02, 0xFC01020EFC01020B).

Maximum Strength Encryption
EAP-MSCHAP-v2 Authentication
Now I find out that MSCHAPv2 authentication has been broken and is no longer considered secure (even by Microsoft), so I want to change the protocol I'm using to make it secure.
However, I've spent 3 hours now researching this and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to use a better protocol on my Windows Server 2012 home server. I've tried setting up PEAP authentication (still PPTP) a la Microsoft's recommendation document, but it requires a certificate. I've created a self-signed certificate but it seems I can't issue certificates (via this method) without being a member of a domain, so I'm stuck. I can't even get started with L2TP since I can't find the option for it.
My question is this: Is there a way to setup a secure VPN server using Windows Server 2012 without a domain? If so, how do I do this?

i have installed debian squeeze (headless shell only) on a 1gb pen drive that is readonly (using aufs)it its a great setup for me?i use it for file server, webserver (local only), SAN server etc...the only problem i have is that sometimes the drive access is slow when using iscsi from it, or coping files.on samba i get about 30MB/s NFS i get about 55MB/s using iperf i get max 61MB/s (but if i setup the server on it - 114MB/s can be transferred to it) is there any way to increase network performance on it? if you have this board what type of transfer speeds do you get?

Oct 22, 2011My new computer has a problem with the on-board gigabit ethernet it keeps dropping network connection every few minutes. Nothing has had any effect. It has been such an annoying problem, I really was hoping to find a fix for this sooner as I know other people have had similar issues. Does anyone have any other ideas because I would like to use the only ethernet connection sometime in the near future. Having to run of an WPN11 netgear usb adapter at the moment.

Mar 7, 2013I have some unused 10G NIC's and want to see if there's a way to install them into a computer and turn that PC into a switch. I need to run Windows based software for driver support of the NIC's, such as Server 2012. This is a picture of what I am hoping to accomplish:

As you can see in the simplified picture above, I have a real switch which has a single 10G link that is connected to PC2. I would like to add the 10G cards to PC2 so that I can create a "switch" of 10G ports on PC2 which I can then hook up other clients (such as PC1 in the above picture).
PC2 needs to provide network access and internet access to PC1 (and other PC's connected to PC2 - not pictured).
The rest of the clients on the network are connected to the regular gigabit ethernet ports of the hardware switch (including my router which is 192.168.1.1).
I looked into Windows Internet Sharing, but for that to work, I need to connect the router to PC2 above and for other considerations not described above, it is not physically possible for me to do that.
Is there software I can run on PC2 that will turn all the NIC ports of PC2 into a "switch"?

Apr 17, 2013I have an unusual issue, for which I can find nothing on the net similar.
Setup:
ASA5505 = > CISCO3524 => Windows 2012 server
ASA is internet edge with ACL / NAT implemented.
We are wanting to implement inbound NATs for this server - 3389. We have many other servers on the internal side of this ASA that we are NATing to. Creating NATs using the same outside IP to another server is fine, no issues. This other test server resides on the same VLAN as the windows 2012 server. All IPv6 is turned off on the W2012 server, and it can web-browse out via the ASA as well. No matter what I do, however I cannot get iinbound NAT, on ANY port to this server working. Internally from another server to this server on any port is fine, i.e. we can RDP to this server without issue, so we know this works - the firewall on this server is turned off too. This is our ONLY w2012 server on the internal side. When we run a wireshark on the server whilst testing the NAT there is no traffic, so its getting blocked somewhere.
The config of the ASA is fairly big to to santize it and remove all customer reference would take a while to make display of this secure difficult.

Dec 27, 2012I have two PC's in my house. One server, one workstation. Both running Windows with Intel gigabit NIC's (82574L and 82579LM respectively). Switch is a Cisco 3560G. Being on a LAN, everything is < 1ms.
I get different speeds when doing a Windows copy between the boxes.
From the POV of my workstation:
Workstation sending file to server: 189Mb
Workstation pulling file from server: 726Mb
From the POV of Server:
Server sending file to workstation: 396Mb
Server pulling file from workstation: 268Mb
Why is it so lopsided? I'm sure there are settings one can optimize in the Intel NIC drivers to bump up the speed.
Security / Firewalls :: Kaspersky Small Office Or AVG File Server Edition 2012?
Aug 20, 2012I can't seem to figure out which one I should go for. I'm thinking Kaspersky would have greater security but I'm not familiar with AVG's server level security.I don't need all the bells and whistles such as file encryption or password storage. I'm simply after a really strong AV for the server. Another one is VIPRE although I've heard it can take a while to configure it unlike Kaspersky which is pretty straight forward.

Sep 5, 2011I have just reformatted my Fujitsu A6120 lifebook laptop and I downloaded all the drivers and everything installed fine except for the Intel PRO/Wireless Network Driver. I even downloaded the driver from Support Downloads. After I installed it, a notification popped up in the task bar with the Intel(R) PROSet/Wireless saying Driver is not installed. edit: in device manager, under network adapters there is only the 1394 net adapter and there are yellow exclamation marks in other devices.
