Intel D945GSEJT Motherboard And Gigabit Network Performance?

Jan 14, 2013

i built a mini NAS system with a Intel D945GSEJT mother board (atom cpu) -

1 x FSP 12V 5A 60W AC Adapter
1 x EPC-01 Case
Intel Desktop Board D945GSEJT With integrated Intel Atom processor N270Motherboard - mini ITX / micro ATX - Intel Atom N270 - i945GSE - Gigabit Eth
1 Kingston ValueRAM 1GB 533M
WD scorpio black 500GB (only for storage)

i have installed debian squeeze (headless shell only) on a 1gb pen drive that is readonly (using aufs)it its a great setup for me?i use it for file server, webserver (local only), SAN server etc...the only problem i have is that sometimes the drive access is slow when using iscsi from it, or coping files.on samba i get about 30MB/s NFS i get about 55MB/s using iperf i get max 61MB/s (but if i setup the server on it - 114MB/s can be transferred to it) is there any way to increase network performance on it? if you have this board what type of transfer speeds do you get?

Intel Gigabit ET Dual Port Card In ASUS P9X79 WS Motherboard?

Nov 4, 2012

reliability of the ET dual port server adapter. I have a Windows Server 2012 hyper-v host thats used to run all of the vm's I use in my house on an ASUS P9X79 WS motherboard. The board comes with 2 Intel gigabit nic's, one of which is an Intel server nic. Ever since installing Server 2012 it only registers one onboard adapter for use and the other isn't. Because of this I am planning on getting a second server grade network adapter for the vm's to use and have the onboard dedicated to management only. The only thing currently holding me back is if the OS will properly detect and run the network card in a non-server motherboard? Any insight as to if it will work on my board or not? Google has only revealed uses on server boards and not workstations.

Dell :: Intel 82567LM Gigabit LAN Card Connecting At 10 Mbps - How To Disable Power Mgt On NIC

May 23, 2010

How do I disable the power management feature that slows my NIC down when I am on battery power?

I have a dell e6500 with a Intel 82567LM Gigabit LAN card that always connects at 10Mbps when I plug in the ethernet cord when I am on battery power, I've tried using different routers (I have two gigabit routers and one 100 mbps router)... it still auto-negotiates at 10 mbps I've tried using different cat6 cables, it still auto-negotiates at 10 mbps.I've checked the drivers, I have 10.0.6.0, which is the latest from the support.dell.com website.

However, the minute I plug in the laptop, the NIC connects at the proper speed.  Essentially, when the laptop is using battery power, the NIC decreases it's speed to 10 mbps.  When I plug the laptop in, the speed jumps up to what it should be (either 100 mpbs or 1 Gbps, depending on which router I'm plugged in to).

So, how do I disable this feature?  I want to connect at the maximum possible speed, regardless if I am plugged in or not.

Intel DZ77BH-55K - Install Network Driver For Intel For Windows Server 2003?

Sep 17, 2012

I know now that this is a Desktop motherboard, officially not supported for Windows Server operating systems, but I would still like to get it to work. I've confirmed that the motherboard network works in WinXP (Intel 82579V Gigabit) and typically the 32-bit Windows XP drivers work on Server 2003 as well. Several of the other drivers have installed just fine, but the network driver install package fails with "No Intel Adapters are present."

I am trying to install Windows Home Server v1 (based on Windows Server 2003) on this box and just want to get a basic network driver up and running. I've checked the BIOS config, and Device Manager shows a yellow question mark by "Ethernet Controller". The ID is:

PCIVEN_8086&DEV_1503&SUBSYS_20408086&REV_043&11583659&0&C8 but I don't really know what to do with that...

Home Network :: Gigabit Network Only Transferring At 10MB /sec Speeds

May 19, 2011

Cable modem into cisco-linksys E4200. 2 of the ports going out from the router plug into the wall, where one goes to the master bedroom and one goes to the living room. Once it gets to the wall jack in each of those rooms it goes out to a gigabit switch. Each of those two rooms has a computer and a TV connected, and the living room as a blu-ray also connected to the switch. The third port going out from the E4200 router goes to another gigabit switch, which is connected to a couple more computers in that room. All of the cables are either cat5e or cat6. The long cables running through the wall from the server room to the living room and master bedroom is 24gauge 4pair cat5e, it was run by a general contractor.

When I transfer between any of the computers on the network as it sits I get 11MB/sec. I get that number by clicking more details on the file transfer. In the network tab of task manager it sits pretty consistently at 10%.If I move any of the computers to be connected to the SAME switch (i tested all 3) i can transfer around 60MB/sec.Based on this testing my initial instinct is to say that the cable running between the rooms is limiting the transfer speed. However the cable is cat5e and rated for gigabit. Neither of the runs are anywhere near 300ft long. Plus the consistency of the transfer speeds at 11MB/sec makes me think it's being clearly capped at 100base-T speeds as opposed to just slowing down due to interference of the cable. As a side note there is a place in the router that tells you the speed of each port. For some reason it has one of my ports listed as gigabit and the others listed as 10/100Mbps. The yellow 3 foot cable i have is listing as gigabit, when i swap it with another cable in the router it changes the gigabit port to the one this yellow cable is on, very odd, however regardless of whether the router says its gigabit it only transfers at 11MB/sec anyway. What I'm wondering is what could be causing this limitation besides the two cables running through the wall? Is that the only thing that could be doing it? What is the best way to really test it out? Do I need to buy some kind of network testing device that tests throughput?

Remote Network Performance Monitoring

Feb 2, 2011

I need to track and record all functionality, connectivity speeds and applications of a remote laptop. Here's the basic set up of my problem:We have 40 medical facilities in five Western States, each with up to 30+ pieces of hardware including thin clients, PCs, laptop computers and wall mounted touch screen kiosks operating on a variety of OS including primarily XP pro, then Linux and transitioning into Win 7.We have installed Aruba wireless network in each building on which our mobile medical cart laptops connect. Each facility has a different mix of primary and backup/failover ISP from DSL, Cable, T1 to Bonded T. All are at or exceed 22MB down, 5MB up save the T1s at their dedicated 1.5 and we monitor speeds and network stats trhough our gateway device. PfSense. All employees connect through an RDP (Remote Connection) to our hosting company in Atlanta, GA where the farm of about 28 servers reside hosting our medical, email and office applications. We regularly are contacted by nursing and clinical office staff complaining that "the network is slow". We review connection speeds, loads, ping times and confirm that there are no ISP Speed issues that are causing the "Slowness". However when we review exactly what the nurses mean by "slow" it invariably turns to how long it takes to log in to the RDP sessions and access then run their medical applications in the RDP. They often sit and wait for the RDP to load for five minutes or more and complain of waiting for their typing to catch up in the applications they work in.

We believe the slowness occurs once they are connected in the RDP and that their problems are occurring at the hosting company's facility, getting through their firewall, through profile management and server hardware/software but we can not prove this is the case because the hosting company always claims they see perfectly acceptable speeds and access on their side and we are locked out from access to monitor tehir environment. Changing hosting companies is probelmatic because they are specialised in our industry and leaving would be diffcult. I need some software that I can install on a few machines in a select few of our facilities that will track and record the actual user experience so that we can watch and review exactly what is happening, what the network stats look like and precisely where the user is experiencing "slowness".

Poor Network Performance On Belkin Router?

Nov 30, 2012

I run my virgin broadband through an old NTL modem and a Belkin router. I haveit all attached to a computer in my study along with a new 6TB Buffalo Nas drive. The computer has GIGABIT LAN. I use Belkin powerline units to relay the network around the house. In my lounge i have a blu ray player, AV amp and my sky box attached to the network via the Belkin powerline units and all run ok. This week i have added a Cambridge audio streamer but i am suffering now from a lot of dropouts and network failures escpecially when trying to stream music from my NAS. all seem to be set up correctly as per the manuals. I have spent a lot on this unit specificallly to stream my music so this is really important to get working correctly The powerline units can flash blue (fast ) or orange (slower) but i only see the orange light .My local dealer says i need to upgrade my Modem/Router and has suggested an ASUS RT-N66U which I understand is a modern 2.5/5ghz model . he says my system is overloaded

A few questions.

Is this a suitable modem for me to use on my Virgin cable broadband? (apparently there are two alternatives types of modem/router)
Is there a better alternative unit ?
Could there be another cause for my problems and if so how do i diagnose them ?

Cisco WAN :: Network Performance When Upgraded To IOS 12.4.24.T5 On 881W

Jun 13, 2011

I have a Cisco 881W router.  It has historically run IOS 12.4 (20.T3) without issue.  I recently upgraded the IOS to version 12.4 (24.T5).  Once I made that upgrade, my ability to fully throttle my downstream bandwidth became seriously limited and variable going from a steady 6Mbps to an unreliable 2-3Mbps.  No other changes were made to my environment.  The degredation in performance was so bad that my AppleTV would no longer stream Netflix or YouTube.I downgraded back to the original IOS 12.4 (20.T3) and the downstream bandwidth and variability issues disappeared.  As well, my ability to stream movies or videos with my AppleTV on Netflix or YouTube returned without issue.I wonder if upgrading to IOS 12.4.24.T5 enabled some new commands that I'm not catching or there is something else at play that I'm totally missing.

Dell :: Intel Centrino 1030 Not Detecting Wireless-N Network

Sep 16, 2011

I have just taken delivery of a new Inspiron N5110 with an Intel Centrino N-1030 wifi card.  I also have two dual band routers (LInksys WRT600N) in different locations in the house.

My problem is that the laptop is detecting my routers Wireless-G signals but NOT the Wireless-N signals.  I have checked to ensure that the N-1030 card has 802.11n Mode set to Enabled and have also tried both setting under "802.11n Channel Width for band 2.4" (i.e. Auto and 20 MHz Only) with no success.

My routers are configured with the Wireless-G signal only on 2.4 GHz and Wireless-N only on 5 GHz.  I found this to be the best setting to avoid interference from neighbors wifi and cordless phones and have been happily using Wireless-N with my other Dell laptop with no problems (XPS M1530 with Intel 4965agn wireless card).Does the N-1030 card not work with 5 GHz Wireless-N?

Cisco Wireless :: AP541N Poor Performance Of Network Connection

Dec 5, 2011

We have two Cisco AP541N running our wireless network in the office. They're configured with the same SSID, so that people are automatically switched between the two access points depending on their location in the office.

Frequently we are experiencing very poor performance of our wireless connections and it seems to be related to when 4-5 clients are connected to one access point. After restarting it (which also moves the 5 clients to the other access point), the performance problem goes away for a while.

I've upgraded one to firmware version AP541N-K9-2.0(1) (the other is running AP541N-K9-1.8(0)), but it doesn't seem to work.
