Tool For Network Management (Health Check / Performance And Fault Tolerance)
May 2, 2012
I am working as a Network Administrator. Here I have to manage Cisco Switches 2960 and 4500 Series, Active Directory, Database Server, Exchange Server, File Servers, IP Telophony, Fortigate Firewall, 2960 Router, Wifi availability within Company. Although, in case of any disaster we will contact to vendor for solution, but the management told me to deploy any Software/Network Monitor which will facilitate to manage all this, i.e, overall network Health check, Performance Measurement, Fault Tolerance.
I'm trying to configure Fault Tolerance on a pair of 4710s. I followed the doc, and configured int gi1/4 as the fault tolerance interface, using vlan 12. However the GUI is saying FT Vlan Down
The troubleshooting wiki said check the physical connectivity, but everything there looks good. Each ACE can ping it's own IP, but not the router on that VLAN, or the peer. They're connected to a dedicated VLAN in a switch, and I even tried a crossover cable to directly connect the two. [code]
I have recently installed several of the new WS-500 series switches into my networks and much to my surprise they are not supported by the CNA tool as the older 500 series were. I tried using the CCA tool, but my routers and legacy switches are not supported under it. One of the reasons I bought the Cisco switches in the first place is because I wanted to use one tool to manage all components in my network. I feel rather irked about what seems to be a purposeful hampering of functionality of the SMB line of equipment. Is there a management application that will allow me to manage all of my Cisco devices from the same console?
Is there a newer tool for current versions of Checkpoint to ASA 8.4? I notice a lot of similarity between checkpoint and 8.4 now, but I still have to do it all line by line which has become a PITA.
Cisco Prime 4.2. My device is stuck in Questioned state in Fault Management. The device though can be pinged from the server. Actually, I can already manage the device and have archived its configuration. Problem is, on Fault Monitoring Device Administration, its on Questioned state even though I already tried to rediscover the device several times.Do I need to configure something on the server like put in the IP address and hostname of the device in the host file of Windows Server 2008?
We are deploying a new wireless infrastructure with a WCS (7.0.172.0) / WLC (7.0.116.0) and AP AIR-LAP1142N-E-K9This AP are in lightweight mode.I know that we cannot do a SNMP polling directly on the AP.For the moment we monitor the AP's only by the traps sent by the WLC.
Is it possible to poll continuously the AP's status (up/down) maybe through the WLC or the WCS ? if yes how we can do that ?The goal is to monitor all the network with only one tool (HPOV) and the AP's integrated on our supervision map.
I would like to know if there's a way to show Current-Utilization percentage within the messages generated by the Fault Management Module in LMS 4.0 [code] As you can see above CurrentUtilization percentage is not shown in Event Description section.
I am on a call right now troubleshooting some latency issue. The CPU usage on the sup card is low. Don't see any drops or input errors. I am aware that the switch and its modules have capability limits. Is there command I can run which will tell me if any module is overloaded or if the fabric/backplane is over utilized? My chassis is WS-C6513 and sup card is WS-SUP720-3B.
I have a 1Gb network set up whereby I have a Netgear 26 Port 1000Mbps unmanaged network switch at the heart of my home network. What I have the problem with is devices connected on any one of my 3 300Mbps access points drop out showing no internet but they really mean no network access unless i disconnect and reconnect or switch to another access point. Other things I get happening is one min i have a transfer speed wired connection to wired connection of 35Mb per second and then I only have 8 or less. I am wondering if I have cable issues but before I went out and spent about 100 on new belkin cat6 cable I would ask if there is software I can use to test all the devices on the network so I can replace the faulty item.
I'm a C# programmer and as part of my software I need to monitor some Cisco Catalyst 3560V2 24 switches using SNMP (By reading MIB/S data).Apparently this switch supports more than 50 different MIBs.My question is which MIB/MIBS contains general health data (parameters) that may determine if the switch is OK, Degraded or Malfunctioned.
I have an RDP server farm that lost a disk. The RDP service was still running but users were unable to log in. I'd like to create a health probe that does maybe a combination of TCP probe for port 3389 and something that can determine if the drive that stores user profiles is available.
I cannot add any new service (http or ftp) to the server. Is there any way I can check SNMP mibs on the windows server or maybe WMI through TCL?
I have a VIP, which is listening on port 8312 in ACE LB and NO probes attached to it. In this scenario how does the ACE module perform the health monitoring ?
I need to track and record all functionality, connectivity speeds and applications of a remote laptop. Here's the basic set up of my problem:We have 40 medical facilities in five Western States, each with up to 30+ pieces of hardware including thin clients, PCs, laptop computers and wall mounted touch screen kiosks operating on a variety of OS including primarily XP pro, then Linux and transitioning into Win 7.We have installed Aruba wireless network in each building on which our mobile medical cart laptops connect. Each facility has a different mix of primary and backup/failover ISP from DSL, Cable, T1 to Bonded T. All are at or exceed 22MB down, 5MB up save the T1s at their dedicated 1.5 and we monitor speeds and network stats trhough our gateway device. PfSense. All employees connect through an RDP (Remote Connection) to our hosting company in Atlanta, GA where the farm of about 28 servers reside hosting our medical, email and office applications. We regularly are contacted by nursing and clinical office staff complaining that "the network is slow". We review connection speeds, loads, ping times and confirm that there are no ISP Speed issues that are causing the "Slowness". However when we review exactly what the nurses mean by "slow" it invariably turns to how long it takes to log in to the RDP sessions and access then run their medical applications in the RDP. They often sit and wait for the RDP to load for five minutes or more and complain of waiting for their typing to catch up in the applications they work in.
We believe the slowness occurs once they are connected in the RDP and that their problems are occurring at the hosting company's facility, getting through their firewall, through profile management and server hardware/software but we can not prove this is the case because the hosting company always claims they see perfectly acceptable speeds and access on their side and we are locked out from access to monitor tehir environment. Changing hosting companies is probelmatic because they are specialised in our industry and leaving would be diffcult. I need some software that I can install on a few machines in a select few of our facilities that will track and record the actual user experience so that we can watch and review exactly what is happening, what the network stats look like and precisely where the user is experiencing "slowness".
i want to know if someone here know how to observe the network performance? and u know what kind of software that can do the observation on the network performance?
I run my virgin broadband through an old NTL modem and a Belkin router. I haveit all attached to a computer in my study along with a new 6TB Buffalo Nas drive. The computer has GIGABIT LAN. I use Belkin powerline units to relay the network around the house. In my lounge i have a blu ray player, AV amp and my sky box attached to the network via the Belkin powerline units and all run ok. This week i have added a Cambridge audio streamer but i am suffering now from a lot of dropouts and network failures escpecially when trying to stream music from my NAS. all seem to be set up correctly as per the manuals. I have spent a lot on this unit specificallly to stream my music so this is really important to get working correctly The powerline units can flash blue (fast ) or orange (slower) but i only see the orange light .My local dealer says i need to upgrade my Modem/Router and has suggested an ASUS RT-N66U which I understand is a modern 2.5/5ghz model . he says my system is overloaded
A few questions.
Is this a suitable modem for me to use on my Virgin cable broadband? (apparently there are two alternatives types of modem/router) Is there a better alternative unit ? Could there be another cause for my problems and if so how do i diagnose them ?
I have a Cisco 881W router. It has historically run IOS 12.4 (20.T3) without issue. I recently upgraded the IOS to version 12.4 (24.T5). Once I made that upgrade, my ability to fully throttle my downstream bandwidth became seriously limited and variable going from a steady 6Mbps to an unreliable 2-3Mbps. No other changes were made to my environment. The degredation in performance was so bad that my AppleTV would no longer stream Netflix or YouTube.I downgraded back to the original IOS 12.4 (20.T3) and the downstream bandwidth and variability issues disappeared. As well, my ability to stream movies or videos with my AppleTV on Netflix or YouTube returned without issue.I wonder if upgrading to IOS 12.4.24.T5 enabled some new commands that I'm not catching or there is something else at play that I'm totally missing.
We have a network drive (drive with Rj45 port) and it is shared by many computers. Frequently we are facing a problem while opening a file and we get the error message "The file is opened by another user" and can open only as ready only.
How can I find who has opened the file in the network drive?
Time to check the network layout attached in the PDF. This design is regarding a new redundant DC being built (hypothetically only) but I need to know if I've connected this in the right way/ if its possible with the equipment listed and how I've put them together. [CODE]
I wanna subnet my Network to increased performanced but im alil confused hereWhen looking at my ROUTER STATUS this is what i have.
INTERNET PORT IP Address XX.XX.XXX.XX gateway ip XX.XX.X.X XX.XXX.XXX.XX LAN PORT ip address xxx.xxx.x.x
Which one of this ip addresses do i have to subbnet?,my router is a ,NETGEAR N600 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit ADSL2+ Modem Router DGND3700 Wireless router - 4-port switch (integrated) - EN, Fast EN, Gigabit EN, IEEE 802.11b, IEEE 802.11a, IEEE 802.11g, IEEE 802.11n.
i built a mini NAS system with a Intel D945GSEJT mother board (atom cpu) -
1 x FSP 12V 5A 60W AC Adapter 1 x EPC-01 Case Intel Desktop Board D945GSEJT With integrated Intel Atom processor N270Motherboard - mini ITX / micro ATX - Intel Atom N270 - i945GSE - Gigabit Eth 1 Kingston ValueRAM 1GB 533M WD scorpio black 500GB (only for storage)
i have installed debian squeeze (headless shell only) on a 1gb pen drive that is readonly (using aufs)it its a great setup for me?i use it for file server, webserver (local only), SAN server etc...the only problem i have is that sometimes the drive access is slow when using iscsi from it, or coping files.on samba i get about 30MB/s NFS i get about 55MB/s using iperf i get max 61MB/s (but if i setup the server on it - 114MB/s can be transferred to it) is there any way to increase network performance on it? if you have this board what type of transfer speeds do you get?
I can see who is connected via the physical ethernet ports on the E4200 router. However, is there a way to check who is connected to the wireless network. Also is there a way to see rx/tx bytes statistics for all wired and wireless users (including ones that are no longer connected)? I've had the router for 3 months now and it works great but I find there isn't enough operational user info/stats on this router.
We have two Cisco AP541N running our wireless network in the office. They're configured with the same SSID, so that people are automatically switched between the two access points depending on their location in the office.
Frequently we are experiencing very poor performance of our wireless connections and it seems to be related to when 4-5 clients are connected to one access point. After restarting it (which also moves the 5 clients to the other access point), the performance problem goes away for a while.
I've upgraded one to firmware version AP541N-K9-2.0(1) (the other is running AP541N-K9-1.8(0)), but it doesn't seem to work.
I have a network coming up for a switch refresh. Management is pushing for 2960s and I would like 3850s. We are running Cisco Voice and Video over the network. I saw a few things that seemed to be in favor of a Layer 3 switch vs. a Layer 2 switch. Some items like better performance due to switching based on IP vs. switching based on MAC. Some information that will show the 3850 to be a better choice or that the 2960 is capable.
I need to check and possibly change which Network address is allowed down a tunnel and check our Phase 2 IPSEC proposal. How would I do this on a VPN3000?
I have a Sony Viao laptop with WinXp SP3 which is now 6 years old. We are currently renting a holiday home in the USA which has an unsecured network. We have two other laptops and they are connected, no problem. This morning my Sony worked fine on email and web access but I was having trouble on FTP. Then email stopped and then web.I have tried all the usual solutions. Delete the Network, restart etc etc.It clearly show the network (and also another secured network I cannot access). When I connect it shows "Acquiring network address" then just hangs. If I press, repair it hangs on "Renewing your IP address" Does the fact that it can see the networks and when I "ping 127.0.01" it seems to be OK, mean that it CANNOT be a hardware fault? I ask this partly because the WLAN switch at the front often does not seem to work (when it does work it is green and currently it IS green)
Deploying monitoring systems, typically in NOCs and maintaining them and creating modles of customer networks working with SNMP polling systems. Tools include applications like HP NNM, Netcool, Ciscoworks etc. How far would a career take you if specialising in this area? It seems like a diversion from the typical Routing/Switching side of networking. Not nessacarly from a technical perspective, how about networking? Ie; being exposed to migration/project teams who wanting to 'migrate' more hardware and sites to the care of the NOC, after the design teams have implemented them? This seems like a step towards the design side which in the long term I am wishing to get to.
i have trying for a few days to connect my HP G7000 notebook to the internet through my wireless but i have tried everything i can think without getting anywhere. I only got it a few days back for my daughter to do her homework ect, but can't get it to connect i see a post on here about updating drivers but i can't get it to connect to do this, then thought about downloading the driver update it may need to my laptop but i really dont want to download anything onto my laptop as its a different model with different drivers and dont want it to stop my laptop working.i get on the HP G7000 is cannot communicate with primary DNS server 194.168.4.100 then underneath that message it is saying Network diagnostics pinged the remote host but did not receive a response
Despite there are all devices are managed in DFM (accorduing to Collection Summary Portlet or Rediscover devices) there are no devices in the Fault Monitor with the message "No devices are available"Does it mean, we have absolutly no faults in our network or does it mean that we have a problem with DFM?
How to find out which Fault Threshold group a specific interface belongs to.The scenario is that in Fault Manager there is an alarm for which I want to change the Threshold Setting.
