Fast Download Speed On Only One Laptop Others Slow
Jan 7, 2011Earlier today Comcast came to our house and upgraded our internet from 12 MB/s to 22 mb/s speed.We have a larger house using wifi internet with 3 laptops (2 XP, 1 Win7).Our wifi has always slowed down speeds on the computers.Our laptops were generally getting 3-6 download speed via speedtest.net.Then when we plugged in directly we got full 12 mb/s.So we figured, hey lets upgrade our internet to get faster speeds around the house!Today we are doing speed tests with the new 22mb/s and only my dad's win-7 laptop is getting 21mb/s via wifi. Even when right next to the router the other 2 laptops only max out at 6mb/s and can not go any higher. When directly connected they get the full 22mb/s.
why is it that one computer gets full speed via wifi when the 2 XP computers do not? It really seems like the speed has a cap at 6.35mb/s download, never goes higher on the speed test.Currently using a Linksys WRT160N Router.When I check the DHCP Client Table it shows that all computers are connected via Wireless-G so it's not a connection type.Is there a specific setting on the XP computers that are capping speed?

Nov 21, 2011i have a laptop that i connect through our wireless router with, and for the past couple months my download speed have been terrible. my browsing speed is just as fast as it always was when i am connected to our router, just incredibly slow if i try to download or stream something.however, my downstairs neighbor also has a wireless router set up that i can access which gives me incredible download speeds but my cant even browse the internet because i the browser connection times out.i have tried plugging directly into my router to on the thought that perhaps the 2 routers' wireless was somehow interfering with each other, but my download speeds are still *** even then.

Jun 5, 2011All I want is functional Wi-Fi in my house like the rest of the world. Unfortunately, I cannot have that for whatever reason.
Now that I said that, Let's me get down to explaining my issue. I orginally owned a Linksys WRT350n. This router worked fine for years, untill one day I decided to do a speed test on my new Motrola Atrix. My Wired computer gets ~22000kbps down and 4000kbps up... My wireless speedtest on my Atrix yielded 2000kbps down and 4000kbps up. I assumed it was the phone, so i went and tried every other wireless device in my house. Everyone of them got the same result.. 2000kbps down.. 4000kbps up.
At this point I went into my router settings and tried every available channel, all of them yielded the same result of 2000kbps down and 4000kbps up.. At this point, I assumed it was the router. Ive had it for a few years and figured it was just reaching EOL. I rushed to my nearest bestbuy to pick up a brand new Linksys E4200. I brought it home, hooked it up and was eager to test my new wireless speeds. Unfortunately the same results of 2000kbps down and 4000kbps up was the yield. Once again, I've tried every possible channel with no change to my speeds. At this point I called up Linksys/Cisco support.. They were POSITIVE it was a hardware issue and had me exchange the router, even though I informed them i had the same issue with my older router of a different model. I went along with it anyway, and exchanged my router. Same issue. I called Cisco/Linksys back up and informed them, and basically they told me "they'd make a note of the issue and call me back at a later date."
I downloaded a WiFi Analyzer on my cell phone. Theres only two other dectable networks in my area, and they are low low low signal. So, I don't believe it's heavy saturation. The router is in the same room as 3 of the wireless devices that get 2000kbps down/4000kbps up. So it's not range either.

RAM: G.Skill 16GB DDR3 1600MHz
HDD: Seagate ST1000DM003 1TB Barracuda + Seagate 320GB Barracuda
GFX: Sapphire HD4850 512MB Dual Slot Fan
PSU: OCZ StealthXtream 500W
(The bits in bold were the upgraded parts, up from an AMD Athlon64X2 6000+)
For some really strange reason, my web browsing has been ridiculously slow, with the words "Waiting for [website]" always showing up in the bottom corner of Chrome for a good 10-20 seconds before the website loads. This happens to every website I visit, bar Facebook (secret Facebook virus?). It's especially bad on shopping websites such as eBay, taking upwards of a minute to load pages. I have tried Internet Explorer and the same thing is happening.
My downloads, on the other hand, have been unaffected by the upgrade, with download speeds averaging 800KB/s.
If it matters, my current modem/router is a D-LINK DSL-G604T; my other devices work perfectly fine on this modem, with browsing speeds being faster on my 2G iPod Touch than my desktop computer.
I currently use Avira Internet Security 2012 as my anti-virus.

In the middle of writing this, I decided to download Firefox, which has improved on my browsing speed somewhat, but still has hiccups here and there (Facebook takes forever to load in Firefox). But having been a Chrome user for a long time, I would like to stick with it.
Linksys Wireless Adapters :: WMP600N Slow Download - Fast Upload Speeds?
Jun 30, 2011After recently intalling the WMP600N wireless adapter I have had great trouble getting it working properly.
Current performance
- signal: verygood/ excellent
- download speed: ~1mb
- upload speed: ~2mb
- signal speed: 18-54mbps (lots of variance but never above 54)
Comparison to my laptop
Laptop in same location with wireless G capability
- signal: verygood/ excellent
- download speed: ~20mb
- upload speed: ~2mb
- signal speed: 54mbps
my router is a D-Link wireless N router I recieved from my ISP. I do not believe my router is to blame for this problem since I have a laptop with an inferior wireless adapter recieving 20X the download speed.Drivers I have installed the latest drivers for windows 7 and I am running windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.

Internet Has Been Extremely Slow
Dec 6, 2012For the past week my internet has been extremely slow, I can watch a South Park episode online and it'll take me at least one hour before I can watch the entire thing because it keeps buffering every 20 seconds. I can barely browse MMO-Champion because it takes one minute to load. Every site takes forever to load. And it's just on my stationary computer. My laptop and mobile phone works just fine. It feels like I've tried everything:
* I've cleaned cache and cookies and stuff like that with CCleaner.
* I've used my console and done all that ipconfig stuff with /flushdns etc etc
* I've used my console and done all that netsh stuff as well
* I've tried to reset my router
* I've tried to use that Microsoft Fix-It program to do whatever it does.
* I've looked through my computer with my anti-virus and anti-malware
* I've installed the latest drivers for my network card/adapter
* I've fixed options on the computer that would allow my computer to perform better
* I've purchased another wireless adapter just to see if that was the problem
* And finally, yes, I've tried restarting the computer
Fast Browsing Download Speed But Low Ping?
Jul 25, 2011I have a 2 mbps connection and i mainly use it for gaming such as World Of Warcraft, Call Of Duty: Black Ops, Battlefield BC2 and my pingms is normally around 70-150 but yesterday during a game and all of a sudden it said "Connection Interrupted" then the game resumed with 350 ping and since then my ping in all games increased to at least 400. I called my ISP but they said as long as the download speed and browsing speed is normal they cannot identify the problem, i have been having it for 2 days now wasting my warcraft subscription : however not sure if this willere is a tracert from the server i play on[CODE]

May 5, 2011I just had comcast internet installed, and am using a linksys wireless router (WRT160N). When I connect my netbook to the network it gets 0.7mbps on speedtest.net, when I use my girlfriends laptop it gets 16+mbps. I have tried everything, I am at my whits end. I have updated my firmware, updated windows to the the limit and reset the settings on my router. If I connect my netbook directly to the router I get 20+ but wireless is 0.7 and upload speed stays the same. I am using an HP Mini 210-2000 with windows 7 starter, I have updated it to service pack 1 and have all the windows based drivers installed. I have not tested it on another wireless network to see if it gets the same terrible connection. I don't know if its something with my computer, windows 7 starter, or the way my computer talks to the router

Jan 3, 2012So recently my wireless speed on my desktop had dropped considerably. I have a 3Mb/s connection, but I am getting speeds ranging from 0.2-0.5Mb/s in speed tests(Actual Mega bits, not Bytes). Last week I set a static IP so that I could do some port forwarding. I don't exactly remember what day I did the static IP, and what day it started going slow, but this is my prime suspect. All of the other computers on the network are running at full steam. I even changed the settings on my wireless adapter back to obtain IP/DNS automatically, but the problem still persists.
I am using a TP-Link wireless USB adapter with up-to-date drivers. [URL]. I already had the ports forwarded in my router. I reformatted my PC a few weeks back and finally got around to setting the static IP again. The forwards were saved already in the router, I just set the IP to the one I had used before.

May 14, 2013On certain downloads, Wifi speed seems to be throttled to about 100kB/s. I see this mostly on two BlackBerry Z10s, but also just saw it on my Wifi-connected PC when trying to download the latest DIR-655 firmware. The Z10s are screaming fast on Wifi at my work. They also do fine on YouTube and any other high bandwidth applications (I just tried Speedtest and got 11Mb/s). I think I can say that the slow speed is only when I'm downloading apps or updates on the phones.
I just updated my DIR-655 to the latest FW and have spent an hour flicking settings trying to find something that makes a difference. No luck. As it stands now, I'm downloading the latest OS upgrade to BB10 (345MB) at 100kB/s.
Sony Vaio - Extremely Slow Internet On One Laptop Only
Jul 3, 2011I have a year-old Sony Vaio laptop which connected to the internet without any problems on my BT Homehub connection. However, I recently moved in with my girlfriend who has a Virgin media connection and, although I can connect to it without problems, it is extremely slow (around 0.30 mbps) whereas my girlfriend's laptop is fine (9.74 mbps), we both have iPhones which are also fine therefore I'm pretty certain the problem lies with my laptop. I have tried updating the wireless card's drivers (windows tells me they are up to date) and I've also tried disabling my Norton 360 but it didn't make any difference.

Extremely Slow Internet - Error Saying Reset TCP / IP Settings
Jan 21, 2011For a few days now, my internet has been as the title suggests. A speed test has shown my download and upload speeds to be about 0.06 mbps each. Every once in a while, I try a diagnose and repair, and occasionally I get one of either "Reset your TCP/IP settings" or "Improve your TCP/IP performance", but neither works. I've tried resetting my modem and have done a system restore to no avail. Offline performance is good, RAM is in good shape, etc. AVG hasn't found any viruses or spyware. It's an ethernet cable, by the way.

I have already turned off packet shaping and QOS. Also, I have set the firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for both TCP and UDP, and assigned static IP addresses to my computers. The problem I am having is that whenever I go to any secure websites, i.e. anything that starts with https, it takes an extraordinary long time to log in and to navigate to any webpages therein. I also cannot upload photos to a website and when I try the Speed-test.net website the download speed is OK but the upload test errors out, it doesn't connect.

I use the internal modem behind the battery where you insert the card, if I insert an external dongle using the same sim card it seems to work just fine. Apr 14, 2013I have recently purchased a new Dell XPS 8500 desktop computer (running Windows 7) to replace my old Dell XPS 420 that died.
I have set up the internet connection on the new computer, however the Ethernet connection is painfully slow. Most webpages take forever to load, that is if they load at all. However, when I use my laptop on wireless, the speed is fine so there is no problem with the network - it must be an issue with the computer.
The laptop also works fine when connected via Ethernet.
Is there something hidden away in Internet settings that could be the cause of the slow speed, or could I just have a dodgy network card? I could easily buy a network card as there are empty slots to install. The computer will be under warranty, but would probably be easier to buy a network card for a few dollars and install myself rather than have someone come out.
I ran the Bigpond ADSL installation disk to install the relevant drivers and configure the settings automatically. I use a T-Gateway TG797n v3.
Netgear Wall - Plugged Ethernet Adapter Is Extremely Slow
May 11, 2011I have a problem concerning my Netgear XET1001 85 MBit/s Wall-Plugged Ethernet Adapter. My personal computer in my room is connected directly to our router and I'm getting arround 14-15Mbps download speeds. My parents computer is located in a different room and I bought them the Netgear Adapter thinking this was the most effective and simplest solution. Better than a Wifi-Adapter. I cost me quite a lot too to be honest. The problem is my parents are getting speeds of 0.05Mbps and the browser often doesn't even load the pages completely. To me it seems like the data can only travel through the thing very hardly if at all.
We thought this might have to do with the age and RAM of our computer. (512MB of RAM) So we bought a new one a couple of days ago. Turns out: nothing has changed.
The Wall-Pluggs are connected directly to the outlet by the way. I'm trying to give you the most amount of information I can think of so one more thing might be important. Yesterday I brought my parent's PC into my room, connected it to the Wall-Plugg and got speeds of 5Mbps. Although this is better, it's not what I bought this thing for. Even a WIFI connection would be faster would'nt it?
Toshiba Satellite L500-2H / Extremely Slow Wireless Speed
Mar 28, 2013Having a bit of a quandry. I have one laptop, a Toshiba Satellite L500-2H, that seems to get ridiculously slow wireless speeds sometimes. Like, slow to the point of not even being able to load webpages. Or taking way too long to do so. Either it cripples along or can't load outright.sometimes the Toshiba will do exactly what it's supposed to and pull 20 megabits/s on speedtest.net, which is what the others do.

I haven't changed ANYTHING in regards to the setup, so I don't see what I could possibly be doing wrong. I even went as far as hooking up the old E4200 to my laptop while having the EA6500 hooked up to my desktop so that I could cross-reference the router settings. They were exactly the same.
