I have tried resetting the AppleTV to factory defaults re-installing latest firmware and reinstalling itunes, powering down all devices etc., and no way can itunes find the appleTV although the appleTV is on the net and seen by the router.I have gone to a wired connection to the router too because the router kept dropping the wireless connection to the router too. Of course I got the DIR-655 for wireless

Probably because its a lot faster than the old router Ive got now. But I have a problem when i try to set it up. When I plug in the Express and the cable from the cable modem then start Airport utility, it cant find the Express. Ive tried using my laptop and connecting it straight into the modem, but that doesn't seem to fix anything.

View 1 Replies View RelatedA customer of ours has the following access points and wireless lan controllers on site. They want to use the Apple Bonjour service with Apple TV's and iPads. I have enabled multicast feature of the 5508 globally and one the SSID.The Apple TV has an ethernet connection and the iPads connect over the wifi. The Apple tv is on the same subnet as the iPad's - the Bonjour features do work for approx 5/10 minutes then it stops working for some reason. The Access Points plug into a Cisco 2960 Layer 2 switch, the 5508 controllers plug are in LAG mode and plug into a Nortel Layer 3 stack which I have enabled IGMP snooping.I've read that the Apple Bonjour service isnt designed to work on a multi subnet network - but both the Apple TV and iPad are connected on the same subnet. Sounds like some kind of timeout but not too sure.

I connected an AP and it works fine so its got to be something with the way the router handles the packets from teh integrated wireless interface. I've been searching the forum for about 1hr and haven't founf anything other than a breif mention of broadcast forwarding and multicast setup.

They can see my wireless network, and after putting in the passcode, can connect. They at this point are visible to iTunes and can play any/all of my content. However after a period of non-use, they go into standby mode, and upon waking, can no longer connect to my network. I have to re-do the wireless each and every time
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a iMac with 2 AppleTVs all connected to a D-Link DIR-655. I used to run iTunes on Windows 7 and everything worked fine (before I got the iMac). Here's the problem - since moving over to the Mac, when the AppleTVs are wire connected to the network, the iTunes library on the iMac will not show up in the AppleTVs. The AppleTVs work fine otherwise (they can both connect to the Internet with no problem). I also cannot see the iMac's iTunes library or the AppleTVs in the iPad's remote app. When I then disconnect the ethernet wire from the AppleTVs (so they hook up wirelessly to the DIR-655), it works fine (iTunes library on the AppleTVs, and everything is showing up in the iPad remote application). After the wireless connection is established, if I plug the ethernet wire back into the AppleTVs (to take them off wireless and force them back onto the network wired), it works fine as well, until I reboot the iMac, then back to square one with the same problem.
As mentioned, it works fine with the Windows 7 PC, but if the iMac is turned on on the same network router, same problem with the Windows 7 PC (library will not show up in the AppleTVs). As soon as I turn off the iMac, the Windows 7 iTunes libraries show up in the AppleTVs (no need to wirelessly connect). There's clearly some conflict being created with the iMac with the DIR-655 that's causing this. I've tried enabling Multicasting and port forwarding TCP 3689, and this didn't fix it either.
I have a brand new DIR-655 Rev B, Firmware 2.0NA.I just realized that none of my Apple device can discover each other using Bonjour, which is very essential for local connectivity for gaming and remote control and iTunes music streaming.

I double checked that the password for the router is only WEP 10 hex digits and that it is correct have tried reseting the Apple TV to the factory settings and using the DHCP Reservation in the network settings of the router and manually configuring the TC/IP settings on the Apple TV (Not quite sure what I am doing with this though so put everything back). View 1 Replies View RelatedI've got an Apple TV 2, and I currently connect it (wired, that standard being the future of wireless) to one of two routers:
1) my normal router (for UK Netflix);
2) my DD-WRT router with my VPN details (for US Netflix).
Currently, I switch between the two manually, by unplugging one cable and plugging in another. This is fine, but what I'd really like is a way to do this without constantly having to kneel down on the floor and fiddle with the increasingly Medusan tangle of cables I have somehow amassed (they breed, you know). As such, my question is: is there a cable/device that can do this for me? I envisage some sort of box with a hard switch that I could flick to change the connection from one router to another. I have scoured the Internet, but don't seem to be able to find one.
I recently purchased the dir-655 router, and am impressed by it's speed. I had no problems configuring the router to my liking, and have found that all of my wireless devices communicate with it flawlessly.
However, my main reason for purchasing this router was for the USB port. I had hoped to connect my 2TB external drive and have it accessible by all wireless devices in my home. To my understanding, the USB port relies on the use of the Shareport Utility. I've installed the Shareport Utility to my laptop for wireless access to my media files for streaming.
Here's my problem. How can I access my media on my external HDD connected to the dir-655 with Apple TV2? I've read several options for PS3 users... and they all seem to involve leaving the pc/laptop running. I would ultimately like to bypass the necessity of leaving my laptop on... but if that's not a possibility, I can live with it being left on.
Therefore, is it possible to access the external drive connected to the dir-655 with my Apple TV 2 by using the laptop as a bridge? Can I access the content via Apple TV by using Windows SMB just as I currently do to access media stored on my laptop?
To summarize, I want to have access to the media on my external drive connected to the dir-655 via Apple TV2.
I am trying to connect to a D-Link DIR655 using a Apple G4 PowerBook equipped with an Apple Original Airport Card (802.11b) to detect WIFi signals. Trying to connect to an unsecured signal at a local Library, the computer states that there is an error connecting to the network. The Library IT checked the settings on the router and it strates the 802.11b is enabled, still there is no connection. Is there a complatibility issue witth the Orinal Airport card and the D-Link Router?

View 1 Replies View RelatedWe have a pair of 4500s set up as HRSP pair. We have many VLANs set up. In one of the VLANs is a working Red Hat cluster which uses multicast for its heartbeats. The VLAN interface on each switch has ip pim sparse-dense-mode enabled on it. Multicast routing is not enabled. We now need to be able to send multicasts across a few VLAN to allow apple TV to work with our WLC and lightweight access points.
I assume I can just turn on multicast routing and enable ip pim sparse-dense-mode on the VLANs I need.Is this the case and will it have any effect on my current multicast traffic?
Apple TV doesn't work over WiFi provided by WLC installed on ISM-SRE-300 module.
Apple TV server and iPad are situated in one L3 segment, Ipad can ping Apple TV
WLC and 2911 router are configured according to this docURL

Vlan 1 and vlan 50 (for clients) are configured on 2911 router.
I'm seeing a problem with Apple IOS devices connecting from one SSID and then connecting immediately to another. I've tried to replicate this fault with non Apple IOS devices, but I'm unable.
Environment:
Single 5508 WLC running 7.2.110.0 AIR-LAP1142N-A-K9 AP's
WLC is in clients head office, MPLS to their branch sites. AP's are in Flex Connect mode, with AP and Flex Connect groups for the AP's at the branch. 3 x SSIDs; Corporate (802.1X), Guest (Web-Auth) & Non-Corp (PSK).
Scenario:
Client is connected to the Corporate SSID with his iPad (new model, running iOS 5.1.1). No problem with access, he is able to roam throughout the building with good SNR/RSSI. He wants to test the other SSID's, he attempts to connect directly to the Guest or Non-Corp and gets an error message on the client saying 'Unable to Connect' or 'Unable to Join'. Debugs on the WLC for the client shows no connection attempt, no errors. I can see the client disconnect from the Corporate SSID, but nothing for the Guest or Non-Corp SSID.
If the client then disconnects and forgets the Corporate SSID from the wireless profiles on their i Pad, waits 20-30 seconds (I can see the client disconnect cleanly from the WLC) and then attempts to connect to the Guest or Non-Corp SSID's - he doesn't have a problem. He immediately associates, and is able to connect. If he then tries to connect directly to another SSID, while still associated to another from the same WLC/AP – he gets the error again. Forget/wait 20-30 seconds, attempt to connect – no problem. We've tested with several i Phones (4 & 4S), i Pads (2 & new model) - all running the same Apple IOS (5.1.1).
I unfortunately can't do much troubleshooting with TAC on this as the client is no longer onsite, and I don't have a 5508 in our lab that I can currently test with. I've tried playing with beacon intervals, etc to no avail.
I am trying to connect my laptop running windows 7 to an airport express so I can stream music to my hi-fi.I've tried a number of different things, none of which have been successful.I've tried resetting the device before each attempt to connect it and I've also ensured that the driver for my computer's Wi-Fi (Intel (R) Wi-Fi link 5100 AGN) and the firmware for my router (Linksys E2000) are up to date. The apple airport utility program is also up to date. I also saw this webpage:Sharing my Win 7 PC with Apple Airport Extreme and wireless network. - Microsoft Answers And, all these settings were correct already.I also took the device back to the shop where it was tested and found to be working correctly.
Just plugging in my airport express - Opening the airport utility program, my airport express is recognized straight away. It is highlighted in the left-hand pane and I click on continue. I then get a message asking if I want to switch networks and it says that this is required in order to set it up. I click OK to continue. After a window appears saying that it is detecting apple wireless devices, I get error message number 4 saying that an error occurred while trying to access the network. It then asks me to check to make sure my network is valid.Using ‘configure other under the file tab - The airport express is still recognized in the left-hand pane but I click on configure other. A window appears asking for the I.P. address and a password. I enter the default I.P. address (10.0.1.1) and the default password (public) for the airport express. I then get error 6753 (an error occurred while trying to access the apple wireless device. Make sure your network connection is valid and try again)however, my computer still recognizes the airport express in the list of available wireless networks. I therefore click on it and connect to it. I then try to enter the details (under configure other again). I then get through to the configure apple wireless device screen in which I can input the details of my network details, etc. I enter the details and make sure that they match my routers settings (I have even tried this with no security settings on my router). I then click on update. The computer automatically reverts back to my network and it seems like everything is working. The green light even appears on my airport express. However, I then get a message stating: Airport utility was unable to find your wireless Airport device after restarting.Switching off the wireless network and connecting the Airport express to the computer with an Ethernet cable - The device is also recognized here and I can enter all the details. Before updating I turn on my wireless network so it can make a connection. The green light shows on the airport express but i again get the message that: Airport utility was unable to find your wireless Airport device after restarting.
I have an Apple Extreme Router on the second floor of my house where the modem is. I am trying to get wifi signal in the living room in the first floor area on the other side of house. I have an Apple AirPort express halfway from the living room extending the Extreme's wifi signal, however this is not enough.I bought an Amped Wireless SR10000 repeater which i placed in the living room and was picking up the wifi from the express fine, however after one day of use, the devices would not connect unless I set a static ip from within the device. I am guessing there is some sort of DHCP conflict in the setup.I tried turning off the DHCP from the Amped Repeater but it still would not lease out IP's (I thought in doing so, the main 2nd fl extreme router would be the one in control).

View 1 Replies View RelatedAbout six months ago I replaced my old router (some generic 802.11b/g router I got for free with a rebate years ago and which lasted a few years) with a Dir-601 after the old router started intermittently cutting out. Setup of the Dir-601 was straightforward enough and I have WEP enabled. Both my Macbook and my wife's Macbook can connect fine if we choose the router from the drop-down wireless network list, and the router has been consistently reliable in maintaining a connection as long as the OS is running.
HOWEVER, neither computer will remember the wi-fi network and won't auto-connect when waking up from sleep or after a restart. Our iPhone and Android smartphones remember the network just fine and auto-connect every time, zero issues. I've gone through all the typical Mac troubleshooting steps, deleting saved network connections and re-establishing new ones. Never solves the problem. We always have to go to the wireless network menu and manually select the wifi connection to connect to.
It's not the Macbooks. Firstly, both macbooks have the same issue, and they're each running different MacOS versions, so there's no version-specific issue that can be at play here. Secondly, neither macbook had this issue with any previous wifi router. Thirdly, anywhere else we take our macbooks where we've set up a wifi connection, they remember it and auto-connect without us having to manually select the network. The only network where we have to manually select the network every time is the one set up with the Dir-601. In fact, we're at my inlaws for the holidays and our Macbooks have been auto-connecting to their router each and every time.Is there a setting I'm not seeing on the Dir-601 admin page?
We added a Belkin N750DB wireless to our building yesterday. Everyone is working fine except one computer that is an apple. Her wi-fi keeps going on and off. Is there a setting we need to change so this stops happening and she has constant internet?

The major portion of the network consists of Apple Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) Server and clients. They were using MAC-address based authentication along with LDAP through Cisco Wireless LAN Controller. But now the number of users has exceeded the maximum number of MAC addresses supported by WLC (2048). Hence we suggested ACS appliance to overcome the limit. My doubt is whether ACS 5.3 appliance can communicate with the Mac server and perform LDAP authentication.
