How To Connect To A Wireless Connection On Dell

Jul 9, 2011

I had a 'No boot sector in internal hard drive' displayed, could not boot up, had to fresh install, lost everything. But now do not seem to have a wireless connection? I have a Broadcom 440x 10/100 integrated controller. Is this for wireless capability? My Fn/F2 key to switch on wireless does not work either.

Dell Studio 1555 Recognizes Wireless Connection But Won't Connect

Apr 11, 2011

I have a Dell Studio 1555 and normally my wireless connection works perfectly. It runs on Vista and I bought it in August 2009. Just recently I went to a friends house, and my wireless detected their router, but where normally it shows connection signal bars, it showed a red 'X' and wouldn't allow me to connect. It wasn't their router because their wireless on their computers were connecting to it fine. Then I went back to my house, my wireless was working fine, and connected automatically right away. The next weekend I went to my parents' house, where I have brought my computer and was able to connect to their wireless countless times in the past, did the same exact thing as when I was at my friends' house. Normally it will detect their router by their name because that is what they have it set at, but now it can only detect it as linksys. And it will not connect. I have no idea what to do because as soon as I go back to my house, my computer is able to connect to my wireless

I've tried looking for an external switch but don't see one. We are fairly basic users and don't know what to do.

Dell :: Can Only Connect XPS 13 (Windows 8) To Home Wi-Fi Connection

Mar 28, 2013

I have an XPS 13 - owned by me, not my employer - and it connects just fine to my home router. However, I cannot connect it anywhere else. It will see networks, I'll enter the security key, and it will tell me it cannot connect. This has happened at my office, at coffee shops, and at friends houses. So I try all the suggested troubleshooting steps and end up in some infinite loop of complete unhelpfulness. I am not a developer, hacker. or other IT professional so I have no idea what half the stuff they are telling me to do even means and most of the stuff (resetting routers etc) is not something I have the capability of doing anyway. My other computers (an ancient Toshiba running XP and a Dell Latitude running windows 7) connect with no issues. What is the problem with this<ADMIN NOTE: Substitute Character removed as per TOU> new machine?

Dell :: XPS 17 / Cannot Connect To Internet But Wi-Fi Network Connection Seems OK

Dec 30, 2011

I have a 7 month old Dell XPS 17 which has a Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N 6230 (2x2 b/g/n+ Bluetooth Combo Card). I have been using the wireless internet connection via my BT broadband package for months, everything OK, then suddenly the laptop can no longer connect to the internet.

All the diagnostic tools say everything is OK but the broadband modem is having problems. The other laptops on the home WiFi network can all access the internet fine, so the BT broadband IS working, so it must be the DELL Laptop, right?

The laptop keeps telling me to reset the modem, which I have done, but to no avail...it is still working with theother laptops, so this can't be the problem.

Dell :: XPS400 Lost LAN Connection / Cannot Connect To Internet After Troubleshooting

May 28, 2013

I have an older windows xp computer, xps 400.

I had unplugged my computer due to painting the room. When i plugged back it I couldn not connect to internet. But oddlly enough my mcafee security center gave me a message that mcafee subscription expired, which it can't as I use it through my subscription through aol. Had this problem once before. So i uninstalled mcafee. I ran malwarebytes to see if there was anything that might prevent me for accessing internet, it found two adware that I quarentined.

I have tested my ethernet cord and connectivity on another computer it works fine.I had a realek RTL8139 Family PCI Ethernet NIC, i reloaded the driver after downloading from my other computer, now it say it is a realtek RTL 8139/810x family ethernet nic, not sure if I downloaded the wrong driver but before that I tried changing the speed to less than auto detect.

I have rebooted in safe mode in case there was a virus. I am at my wits end.Is there a way to factory reset the network adapter. What else can I do. light at the ethernet port looks to be yellow. Everything says it is working, I just can't connect.

the mcafee fix

turning on and off wireless using both the bios and hotkey on the laptop

downloading the newest driver

running the repair using the latest driver

the diagnostic scan on the dell.ca/support site

turning off and on the firewall

changing the advanced settings through the device manager in the control panel

setting up the wireless connection manually using the ssid and wep key

....and probably some others i have forgotten

the wireless is turned on but the adapter just can't find any wireless networks even though the laptop is inches from the router.  the adapter model is the intel 5100 (i believe)

Dell :: Dimension 510 Wireless Connection Access?

Feb 5, 2012

I just set up a wireless router in my home to my Dimension 510 computer. I know the wirelss is working because our Ps#, Iphones and ITouches can receive the signals.

However, our other desktop Dimension 510 does not appear to be receiving the wireless signal.

does it just not have the capability to receive a wireless signal and I have to use an ethernet cable connection?

Is there something I need to add in order for it to receive the sireless signal (some one mentioned an adapter but I thought an adapter just boosts the signal, and the desktop is the closest device to the network router so it should be receiveing the signal okay).

Dell :: New V715w Loses Wireless Connection?

Dec 2, 2011

I just got my first wi-fi printer, a V715w. Even though the Wi-Fi light on the front of the printer is green, I very often can't print to the printer. I get a box saying the printer can't communicate with the computer. I would have thought that the green light was signifying that Wi-Fi communications existed. Wrong? Then what does the green light signify? When I check the settings on the printer front panel, it shows the all the correct info, SSID, etc.. Do I need to do something each time before I try to print in order to ensure a wireless connection exists? Shouldn't the printer stay connected to the Netgear dual band wireless N router all the time? The computer, Win XP, sp3 stays connected to the router all the time. I expected the printer to do the same.

i have been experiencing problems with my Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop running windows XP. For some reason my laptop connects to my network for a few minutes then disconnects, then it reconnects for a few minutes and disconnects. This happens repeatedly. I replaced my old Linksys WRT54G v.8 router with a DLink DIR-655 N Router thinking this would solve the problem but it didnt. I also positioned the new router higher than the last one, about 5 feet from the floor. The drivers for the Intel WiFi Link 5100 Mini Wireless Card on my laptop appears up to date, the current driver version is 13.5.0.6 from Intel. I don't experience wireless connection problems with my iPhone, apple tv or Xbox 360. Additionally, my DLink routers firmware is up to date.

It stays like this for several minutes, then goes back to normal!?I've recently had fiber optic broadband installed, but I don't think this is the issue as it was happening before.Even when the internet is working, the connection speed is really poor; YouTube videos constantly buffer, even on low quality.I've plugged in the ethernet cable today and it appears to work fine, so I think it must be an issue with the laptop[CODE]
