I have installed win98 in a PC since my father wanted to use some old programs he likes. the PC has D-link wireless network PCI card. unlike win xp I heard that the wireless internet won't be set by just installing the wireless card driver on the system, but there are far more things to do in win98 to set your internet.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI own a desktop hp pavilion windows xp that i recently reset to factory settings and now I'm having trouble getting wifi. The other computers in my house work fine with the router, and my computer gets internet through an ethernet cable, so I know it isn't the router. I used to use a d-link G rangebooster desktop adapter to get wifi, and I have tried downloading a driver for it but still no luck. Some of the things I have tried are as follows:
-Renewing IP address
-going through new wireless network wizard
-unchecking the "IEEE 802.1x authentication"
-creating a new network for the "preferred network list"
-other random edits that have not worked!
The wireless network connection says signal strength is excellent but status is limited or no connectivity.
i need to know how to get my wireless internet working on windows 7? what do i do?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Samsung RV510 laptop computer running Windows 7 that is about 6 months old. It has worked well until the last couple of days. Despite the fact that it shows an active wireless internet connection, I cannot get web pages to open. I have tried both IE and Firefox with no luck. I have tried many different websites including microsoft, msn, google and yahoo and none have connected. Other devices connected to the same wireless network include a laptop running XP, a MacBook pro, an iPhone, an iPad, and several android smart phones and all have been functioning without issue. An XP desktop is also connected to the router with an ethernet cable with no issues. This laptop is the only device running Windows 7.
When I run the windows network diagnostics tool I get the message "Problem found The remote device or resource won't accept the connection". I have tried most of the recommended actions associated with the linkI have successfully pinged www.google.com and www.yahoo.com. I have also tried several other things that i found while doing research on this problem with no success.[CODE]
my primary source of internet at my house for the passed year is an at&t 3g usb modem (sierra wireless lightning), becuase i live in the middle of nowhere (only other option is satellite). Up until now i've been using a wireless ad hoc network to share the connection with multiple computers. I just purchased a cradlepoint router that is compatible with my usb modem so I can have a "real" wireless network in my house. I set it up yesterday and so far its working great, I have a wii streaming netflix, an android tablet, an iphone and two laptops (running vista, and win7 respectively) currently connected. The problem is my 3rd laptop, also win7. It is my primary computer that I use for business and absolutely essential that its connected to the internet. It (seems) to connect to the wireless network just fine, but gives me a "no internet access" error.
This laptop will connect to other wireless networks: it always connected to the ad-hoc, it will connect to my wifi at work and the network at my boyfriends house, also i just tried it with the verizon 3g mobile hotspot app on my droid and it connected right away. It also works just fine with a wired connection to this router (ethernet). I'm not sure where to start since every other device in my house is working with this network and this laptop will connect to other wireless networks.
ps/ Going through the windows onscreen troubleshooter it will either tell me "there is a problem with your broadband modem" or "There is a problem communicating with DNS server" (but it wont fix it)... and after going through endless google searches, i've done everything thats been suggested so far (making sure dhcp is enabled, powercycling the router/modem, updating drivers, ipconfig release/renew, disabling the firewall).

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy laptop (Windows 7) has problems connecting the the wireless network at my school. I can connect fine at home. When I get to school, my laptop picks up the internet - there is internet connection/wireless. But I cannot access the internet after I open the web browser. As a school policy, as soon as the browser is open, it is directed automatically to a "Web Authentication" page. But my laptop does not allow it to connect to that page.
I asked the IT technician at school and he said that there is a problem with the DNS connecting automatically. He changed the settings to do so, but when he opens the network protocol again, the DNS is changed back to a preferred DNS number and it will not allow me to automatically pick up the DNS when I am at school. (Once again, it works fine at home).
I need to share the internet.

I've recently performed a full formate on windows, which removed everything (including internet drivers) cause i was having problems with my system drivers, installation worked out well, but now when i tried adapting my internet cable and having my pc recognized my internet connection, it didn't work my laptop can't seem to find any connection even with the cable plugged in, i've tried different cables, ethernet gates but he still doesn't recognize it. I cannot get my computer to connect to the internet including, but not limited to system restoring to an earlier restore point prior to developing the problem. Doing a system recovery which basically reset everything to manufacturers (except the internet connection). Following several sets of directions which seemed like they might apply to me including manually entering the ip info into my LAN.The latest attempt was to try to "reset my winsock catalogue" with: netsh int ip reset catalog command in cmd. This resulted in a list of errors stating that the commands had to be Run as an administrator. As I am logged in as administrator on the computer, I'm not sure how to rectify this latest little bit of folly.
