View 1 RepliesI have a client who has asked me to "optimize" their network. They currently have a few shared folders that everyone can see, but what they want is to restrict access to some of the computers on the network.More specific, they don't want the receptionist and the backroom workers to have access to those shared folders while the rest of the employees (the bosses) do have access to those folders. They have 2 computers with Windows 7, 2 computers with Windows XP, and a mac.

I have a small voice router (1751) running CME with 2 Cisco 7940 phones. I would like to hook it up to a commercial line, but not sure how to. What specific card will I need for my voice router to connect it to the outside world (FXO right)? I see where they talk about hooking it up directly to the LAN line, another using a commercial phone system, and then the others using a PBX,ect... So confused to say the least. I assume I need an FXO port to connect to the POTS, but not sure if there is anything else I’m missing in the setup...

We are going to put a software based voip pbx in the house to convert the analog tel. lines in to the network, and we were looking at the url.. but I thought we could go with 2 wifi n access points, and 2 14dbi panel antennas, and save a couple hundred bucks..
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just got installed a business class internet service installed. Got the 25/5 line and when I perform the speed tests I get well above that with the speed boost on the lines. When I am downloading large files I am getting a constant 22-25 down and when I am uploading files I get the 5 up.... But I can't do both at the same time. What happens if my uploads kill my download speed so if I am uploading a file and taking up my 5 up it makes my download speeds about 2-3.. Comcast is saying that this is how the network works and I just don't want to accept that at this time as I have other internet providers that don't work this way and I get a true up/down at the same time. Unfortunately at this location that I am dealing with Comcast is the only choice.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy problem is that I have a Cisco 300 series small business switch with multiple VLANS each one with an IP address and two or three ports assigned to each VLAN. I have an E3200 wireless router that I want to use to use to share internet on the switch. All of the VLANs are reachable from the other VLANs and I've put a static route on the E3200 so that I can reach the VLANs from a machine connected only to the router. But I can't reach machines on the otherside of the router or get to the internet from the switch.

Or will the network information, type of router, etc. be necessary?

All wired PCs can see the server and interact with it and the copier. All wireless devices (through WAP) cannot access the server computer or the copier. There is no inexpensive way to get a wire to the devices with out causing a tripping hazard or lots of unsightly strung wires. Why are the wireless connections not seeing the server and can I fix that by reconfiguring the setup of my existing devices?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am looking to add a new wireless network for our customers to use.I would like to cover multiple areas of the site. And if cheap enough the whole site.Ideally I would like a control panel I can use to create new passwords for every customer that wants to connect. I can then set an expiry date on the password after that it deletes the password. An extra would be if the person would have to sign an e-policy before being allowed to browse.
View 9 Replies View RelatedThe task is to share Internet via Wireless router for visitors without any Proxy/Windows Domain authentication. We have:1) Windows based Domain with Active Directory Users, with no DHCP setup, only Static IPs allowed. Used as a DNS server, the IP-address is 192.168.1.1, Domain name, say, Internet Connection via Proxy server which authenticates users via above-mentioned DNS server, the Proxy server IP-address is 192.168.1.3, ruled by MS TMG (ISA server)3) A Wi-Fi Router Cisco E4200.The local area network is wired and works fine. Domain users are happy. The idea is to make visitors happy with a free Internet connection without wiring them into the LAN.So:1) Respected visitors would not have to set up static IP-adresses on their devices to connect to Internet and2) Respected visitors would not have to enter domain credentials to get access to Internet, but3) Network security should not be jeopardized.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am setting up a e4200 wireless router on a Comcast business account that uses a gateway (SMC8014).I have fixed public IP [x.x.x.x/30] and the gateway sets up a subnet 10.1.10.0 (255.255.255.0). I have mail server and DNS server at 10.1.10.20 and I use port forwarding in the SMC gateway.
The setup of the e4200 using the software sets up a network (192.168.1.1). I can connect devices to the router and browse the external Internet. However, when my android phone connects to the e4200 it gets an IP such as 192.168.1.101. However, I cannot download my mail which is at 10.1.10.20. When I try to browse that IP from the android phone I get the SMC gateway at 10.1.10.1 and not the computer at 10.1.10.20. If was coming in from the external Internet port forwarding would take over but it does not work for the android phone connected to the e4200.
Also, i noticed that when I set up the default setup for the e4200 the "Cisco Connect" says the WAN address is 10.1.10.155 and the LAN address is 192.168.1.1. However, when I go to the SMC Gateway and list the connected computers it doesn't see the e4200 at 10.1.10.155. If I set up the e4200 within 10.1.10.0 then the SMC sees it (but the computer name always says "unknown"). It I set the DHCP in either the SMC or the e4200 within the 10.1.10.0 subnet I can see the phone connection in the SMC when I list the connections but any requests to 10,1,10.0 computers goes to the SMC gateway.
We are looking into the possibility of putting in some public wireless access in the public areas of our organization. Its a fairly small building in terms of public access and it needs to span 3 rooms in total. We have a spare BT line into the building - ADSL 2+ - and so will utilize that instead of putting them on our network. We would like to run some router based content filtering on the router - but would use open dns if this isn't possible.I could do to find a good wireless router that will cover the 3 areas . Its not a large budget project as there isn't going to be very highly utilized. We are looking Cisco kit - and have drawn up a few options. Initially we were going to go with the 1140's - but these are access points and as per my understanding aren't going to work with the phone line - as it needs to be a wireless router.
The next area was the Linksys E series (E4200) - they do look really good, and they have the content filtering which we like. What the power and range of the E series is? The only issue we might have is its a fairly old building and so some of the walls are pretty thick - one of which is wooden lined. It has the 3x3 mimo antennas and so guess it would provide some pretty good range/power. If the hardware is cheap enough then we may be able to setup the routers in repeater mode - however I'm not sure if the home devices can work that way? - I think max would be £300 - but that will be decided when I have some better numbers.
I want to know if it is possible to put the cisco small business router rv120w into bridge mode so that I can connect it to a linksys e2500 access point. Is this even possible or am I wasting my time?I have 4 devices connected to the cisco router that I want to be able to bridge to the linksys e2500 which has the internet connection.

I have recently moved into a new flat and with my wireless router in my livingroom I am unable to get good signal in either of the bedrooms? Its a more or less open plan flat so unless I have lead in the walls or something silly like that stopping the signal. What I am trying to do is have a wireless router in the livingroom and then one in the hall way so if I have a laptop in either the livingroom or bedrooms I will still pick up signal from the closest router!I currently have a brand new Netgear DGND3300v2, Netgear DG834PN, Sagem F@ST2504 and a BT Home Hub 2.I have read about having routers act as access points and the like but I am not great with networking to be honest. I have good computer skills so if it is explained to me I can pick it up rather well.I would like the wireless router in the hall way to pick up the internet from the wireless router in the livingroom... wirelessly!

Router: Belkin N750 DB N+
Steps taken:Modem and router have been shut down and restarted.Router has been returned to factory settings and reconfigured.Validated with my ISP there are no issues with my internet service. Router software has been uninstalled, reinstalled I do not use McAfee. I've run a full virus scan, a full malware scan and just for good measure, a defrag. I've checked my firewall.
I just purchased e4200 from a friend of mine. Got an issue with setup of this device. I use a model from internet provider. Have 2 computers at home. One is pc with cable, another one mac with wireless.SO my issue is that i can not connect none of them. I was trying to use cd that comes with router but he can not locate a router. When I connect cable directly from modem to computer everything works fine. As soon I connect cable to a router I can not see a router and I can not connect to internet.

I've tried using the setup CD and doing a manual setup, but no internet connection is detected. I must confess to being a total wireless router newbie, this is my first one, so I am stumped as what to do next. I've looked at the FAQ's and through the forum as well, but I just don't know what might apply to my situation and as I am not very well versed in the terminology, I tend to get lost.

(DHCP Server)
(Wireless) (Only TV)
Internet >> WRT54G2 >>> Actiontec >>> PC/Laptops

FIOS TV -------------
how to set this up? I understand that the STB devices configured on my Actiontec routers is actually my TV receiver and currently configured with the following IP addresses:
IP-STB1:Connection Type: Coax
192.168.1.100
IP-STB2:Connection Type: Coax
192.168.1.101
IP-STB3:Connection Type: Coax
192.168.1.103
I have COAX Ethernet setup so everything is going through ethernet per Verizon phone tech.
Actiontec Firmware Version: 4.0.16.1.56.0.10.11.6
WRT54G2 = DDWRT firmware

We just have 3 people that will be working in the office and we need a way to store/backup/share files on the network as well as a way to access them remotely if need be. Our internet service is going to be providing us with a static IP. I was thinking that we could use an NAS with RAID 1 attached to the router, which is in turn connected to the cable modem, but I'm not sure if this is secure. Do we need some type of hardware firewall in between the cable modem and the router to protect us from the outside?
