Sharing Wifi On Windows 7 With An Alfa Awus036h?
Jul 30, 2012I know this is possible, but I haven't found the steps to accomplish this. I have a Win 7 x64 with an Alfa AWUS036H connected to the internet (strong signal). I have a Win 7 x64 notebook whose wifi adapter shows a very low signal strength. I know there is a way to use the Alfa AWUS036H both for the primary wifi/internet connection and for Virtual WiFi to the notebook.The Virtual WiFi is supposed to be part of Win7? But I can't find in the network control panel how to set it up

Feb 7, 2012My own AP wich is 2m away has a signal of -70db. The internal antenna receives the same signal at -30, -40db.I tried all the drivers I could find. Also tried 3 different antennas. I can connect to my AP but the speed rating is 1mbps to a max of 11mbps. The latest driver from Realtek is newer than the driver from ALFA site. Both drivers are the same, no differences noted.The adapter is not under warranty, because is bought from ebay.Also I tried the adaptor on another desktop PC and it has the same low signal. Attachment: Differences in signal strenght between internal adapter and the AWUS036NHR.

Feb 15, 2013I am a university student and my building is made of concrete so I get pretty spotty wireless (lag at 9000+ ping on games?!). To improve my connection quality I was recommended the Alfa AWUS036NHR USB network adapter [URL]. The adapter itself works marvelously but here's the problem: when I install the adapter, the existing wireless drivers on my laptop fail and I cannot use the internal laptop NIC even when the adapter is unplugged. It says the device is ready but does not detect any networks. When I reinstall the NIC drivers, the adapter doesn't work anymore.Device manager still shows both drivers installed and running but the corresponding NIC/adapter won't detect any networks.
What I have tried:
-Disabling the other driver, reinstalling other driver
-Disabling a functioning driver to attempt to get the other device to work
-Trying different versions of the drivers--a longshot I know
My hardware:
Internal NIC:: Realtek RTL8723A Wireless Lan 802.11n USB 2.0
External adapter: Alfa AWUS036NHR using Realtek RTL8192C USB 802.11B/G/N 300M Wireless NIC drivers for Windows 8
Laptop: Lenovo Yoga 13 (i7 version), no ethernet port available, Windows 8 Pro
can I use both of them (not at the same time) without having to reinstall drivers each and every time I switch?
Dropped Connections With Usb Wifi Card (alfa Awus036h)?
Oct 11, 2011I am using Windows 7 Home premium SP1 (x86). I can connect fine and after a (seemingly random) amount of time the connection will drop (at least according to windows). I can also easily reconnect without a problem, but it will not pick back up the connection automatically, which is a problem because I use programs that need to access the internet and Often leave large files to download while I'm sleeping or not home. So If I'm not sitting at my computer to manually reconnect, then whatever i'm trying to accomplish doesn't get done.I'm using the ALFA AWUS036H USB wifi adapter. I had previously been running windows XP and this same thing would happen (though, much less often) but when it happened in XP it would automatically reconnect in a few seconds. I downloaded the drivers from ALFA's website incase the ones on disk were not up to date, and I tried both of them (they have a "normal" and "power control driver" option) and the problem remains. Also, I've never used an external wifi adapter before so I'm not sure if its supposed to work this way, but there are 2 "signal strength meters" in the system tray the standard windows one that you can click on and see available networks or go to windows "network and sharing center" and then there is the ALFA one that you can click on and it takes you to the ALFA wireless LAN utility, where you can also get a list of available networks.According to windows there is a problem with the connection, however according to the ALFA wireless LAN utility, the connection is fine (green bars means good connection, red bars means no connection)When clicking on the Windows "signal strength indicator" in the system tray, it shows 1 of 2 different problems (notice the differences that I've highlighted with red boxes). No matter which one happens I can NOT access the internet. Despite the "problems" shown above, the ALFA wireless LAN utility shows that its still connected (while windows is showing a connection problem)To reconnect I switch to the "profile" tab (which is just a list of neworks that i've previously connected to) and double click on the network. In this case it will be Enotria Public.... the same one that (according to the ALFA wireless LAN utility) I'm already connected too After clicking on the network, the ALFA wireless LAN utility "signal indicator" in the system tray will briefly turn red (signaling NO connection) while it "reconnects". Then it will turn back to green, and Windows network manager/signal indicator (whatever you call it) will proceed to reconnect as well. After this happens, all is good and I'm reconnected and can access the internet.
As you can see in pics above the ALFA wireless LAN utility is always connected, and it never drops the connection but even so, the internet will not work when Windows drops the connection. However, When reconnecting I can access the internet BEFORE Windows reconnects. (I still have to reconnect as described above, but after I do so I can access the internet before windows FINISHES reconnecting) The tab shown in this picture was a web page that I loaded BEFORE Windows ever reconnected, and it is a page that I have NEVER viewed before, so its not just loading it from cache.

Oct 6, 2011ok here it goes. I have a hp tx2000 laptop using vista with a alfa awuso36h usb adapter to connect to the internet. Ok heres the problem i was using this setup to connect to my neighbores wireless internet with no problems for about 2 weeks(yes they know and are fine with me using it). But within the past week (actually all of a sudden it wont work) my program that came with the adapter shows alot of networks with full signals but when i connect to any of them it shows connected but wont actually bring up the internet. When i click on i.e. It says i.e. Cannot display the webpage. And if it actually does take me to google it will disconnect for no reason and reconnect to a random network thats available. my neighbors connection i was using just all of a sudden quit working and if i try to connect to it , it says cannot connect to frontier87. Also the other networks that show up sometimes will say the settings saved on this computer for this network dont match the requirements of the network, but sometimes the same network will connect but wont actually bring up the internet. I guess i just want to know what has changed to make me not be able to use a network that worked fine for me last week.

Sep 18, 2012We have a network of approximately 20 computers, network printers, and one Windows 2003 Server (used simply as a file server). I have an issue with two specific Windows 7 Pro workstations that just will not logon. The username and password details we're using are correct, but the server rejects them. I can logon using the same account from any other Windows 7 Pro workstation, or Windows XP station, so I know the issue is specific to the two workstations communicating with the server.
Both afftected stations show Logon attempted by: MICROSOFT_AUTHENTICATION_PACKAGE_1_0 error 0xC000006A which all searches on Google point towards incorrect login credentials, however I've tried plenty of perfectly valid login credentials and they don't work either.I've tried checking that the 128bit option on the Windows 7 machines is disabled in file sharing etc.

Aug 29, 2011I have an RV042 setup for quick vpn access.The remote computer in question is a win 7 64bit. The PC uses McAfee SAAS firewall. This disables the windows firewall.
1. I can connect to the vpn with SAAS disabled and windows firewall enabled.
2. I cannot connect to the vpn with both windows firewall and SAAS disabled.
3. I cannot run SAAS and windows firewall together to check if this would work.
I need to figure out what windows firewall is doing to allow the vpn to connect, and so how do this with windows firewall disabled. I can then leave the windows firewall disabled and enable McAfee SAAS.The message quickvpn provides when it fails to connect is that the remote gateway is not responding. The client logs show that the tunnel had been opened but it was unable to ping.

Dec 31, 2011I have a win xp laptop which connects via wireless to a cheap belkin router I have a Win 7 pro laptop which is hardwired to the router. The Win 7 machine is NOT set up for home groups. We are all on the same workgroup.
I have added the user name from the XP machine to the Win 7 pro machine with admin rights. I shared a folder on Win 7 and added the user name and gave read/write rights. I have no software firewall.
When I try to connect via win explorer via the workgroup I see the Win 7 machine (after 10 seconds). I see 'User' folder which I can browse and I see the folder that I shared but I can't access it. Access denied...

The old computers that they had were XP pro and it worked fine for them, the server itself is a win2k server. I am able to browse the public libraries on the Windows 7 computer from the Windows XP computer, but not vice versa. Yesterday after setting up the network I it seemed ok in both directions, but today only one way. I've struggled with this problem for almost a year now with both wired and wireless connections, 2 different XP computers and 2 installs of Windows 7 on the new computer.

Feb 21, 2011I'm trying to set up a VPN connection between two Windows 7 machines (A laptop running 32-bit and a my home computer running 64-bit). By setting up a new incomming connection on my home computer and forwarding port 1723 (TCP) to the IP (static on home network), I'm able to connect using my iPhone (either over 3G or a WiFi hotspot). It should then seem that my server settings are working.Now, when trying to connect using my laptop it won't work. I use "set up new network connection" -> "Connect to workplace/VPN" in "Network and Sharing Center". When trying PPTP, a window pops up asking me to re-type username and password. I use the same credentials as logging in at my home computer (and the same as I've configured on my iPhone), but the server won't accept them.When right-clicking the VPN connection in "Network and Sharing Center", I can go to properties. But I do not know which combination of settings to choose. I don't believe it should be this hard though, when both client and server are configured automatically by the same OS.

I rebooted the machine and everything was working perfectly. A few days later I booted and it no longer connects, regardless of being directly connected to the modem, the router, or using a wireless USB dongle purchased from a retail store. The NIC is set up to obtain IP's automatically but an ipconfig /renew gives an error and the built in troubleshooter just states that it can't obtain an IP.
