I know this is possible, but I haven't found the steps to accomplish this. I have a Win 7 x64 with an Alfa AWUS036H connected to the internet (strong signal). I have a Win 7 x64 notebook whose wifi adapter shows a very low signal strength. I know there is a way to use the Alfa AWUS036H both for the primary wifi/internet connection and for Virtual WiFi to the notebook. The Virtual WiFi is supposed to be part of Win7? But I can't find in the network control panel how to set it up
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am using Windows 7 Home premium SP1 (x86). I can connect fine and after a (seemingly random) amount of time the connection will drop (at least according to windows). I can also easily reconnect without a problem, but it will not pick back up the connection automatically, which is a problem because I use programs that need to access the internet and Often leave large files to download while I'm sleeping or not home. So If I'm not sitting at my computer to manually reconnect, then whatever i'm trying to accomplish doesn't get done.I'm using the ALFA AWUS036H USB wifi adapter. I had previously been running windows XP and this same thing would happen (though, much less often) but when it happened in XP it would automatically reconnect in a few seconds. I downloaded the drivers from ALFA's website incase the ones on disk were not up to date, and I tried both of them (they have a "normal" and "power control driver" option) and the problem remains. Also, I've never used an external wifi adapter before so I'm not sure if its supposed to work this way, but there are 2 "signal strength meters" in the system tray the standard windows one that you can click on and see available networks or go to windows "network and sharing center" and then there is the ALFA one that you can click on and it takes you to the ALFA wireless LAN utility, where you can also get a list of available networks.According to windows there is a problem with the connection, however according to the ALFA wireless LAN utility, the connection is fine (green bars means good connection, red bars means no connection)When clicking on the Windows "signal strength indicator" in the system tray, it shows 1 of 2 different problems (notice the differences that I've highlighted with red boxes). No matter which one happens I can NOT access the internet. Despite the "problems" shown above, the ALFA wireless LAN utility shows that its still connected (while windows is showing a connection problem)To reconnect I switch to the "profile" tab (which is just a list of neworks that i've previously connected to) and double click on the network. In this case it will be Enotria Public.... the same one that (according to the ALFA wireless LAN utility) I'm already connected too After clicking on the network, the ALFA wireless LAN utility "signal indicator" in the system tray will briefly turn red (signaling NO connection) while it "reconnects". Then it will turn back to green, and Windows network manager/signal indicator (whatever you call it) will proceed to reconnect as well. After this happens, all is good and I'm reconnected and can access the internet.
As you can see in pics above the ALFA wireless LAN utility is always connected, and it never drops the connection but even so, the internet will not work when Windows drops the connection. However, When reconnecting I can access the internet BEFORE Windows reconnects. (I still have to reconnect as described above, but after I do so I can access the internet before windows FINISHES reconnecting) The tab shown in this picture was a web page that I loaded BEFORE Windows ever reconnected, and it is a page that I have NEVER viewed before, so its not just loading it from cache.
Let's say, an antenna like that Should I open the modem and therein there could be a slot for it to be plugged in? Because on the back side of the modem none of the slots will suit such plug.
View 2 Replies View Relatedok here it goes. I have a hp tx2000 laptop using vista with a alfa awuso36h usb adapter to connect to the internet. Ok heres the problem i was using this setup to connect to my neighbores wireless internet with no problems for about 2 weeks(yes they know and are fine with me using it). But within the past week (actually all of a sudden it wont work) my program that came with the adapter shows alot of networks with full signals but when i connect to any of them it shows connected but wont actually bring up the internet. When i click on i.e. It says i.e. Cannot display the webpage. And if it actually does take me to google it will disconnect for no reason and reconnect to a random network thats available. my neighbors connection i was using just all of a sudden quit working and if i try to connect to it , it says cannot connect to frontier87. Also the other networks that show up sometimes will say the settings saved on this computer for this network dont match the requirements of the network, but sometimes the same network will connect but wont actually bring up the internet. I guess i just want to know what has changed to make me not be able to use a network that worked fine for me last week.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Belkin Play N300 (part number = F7D4302) wireless router, and I want to connect my (soon-to-be-pole-mounted) 12DBI omnidirectional antenna to it, the goal is better wireless access in one area of a church camp. I have a couple of U.lf - RP-SMA pigtails on the way, because of course the router doesn't have an external antenna connection.
I opened up the router case, and below is a shot of the board. There's plenty of room inside the case. The router is dual-band (2.4 and 5ghz), and uses 2 internal antennae, apparently it senses the better one and uses it as needed.
My plan is to disconnect one antenna, and connect/solder my external antenna pigtail in its place. I'm a fair hand at soldering, but very little practice de-soldering...
1. Is disconnecting / replacing one antenna the way to go, and if so, which one? Or should I leave them both connected and piggyback my external onto one of them (soldering the leads on top of existing connections), or disconnect both antennae, or does it matter?
2. Which set of wires, white or black, are used for which band - and should I connect to? I assume I'd want to hook up to the 2.4ghz, correct?
The white wires come out from the tiny Broadcom chip, I think it's marked BCM43224KMLG (dang, that's some tiny print!). This page leads me to think that these are the 5ghz antenna leads, but I'd llike to be positive before I start cutting.
The black wires appear to feed from the larger Broadcom chip marked BCM4718A1KFBG. Again, this page leads me to think that this is the 2.4ghz antenna.
3. Assuming that the black wires are the ones I want, would it be ok to cut one really close to the board end, cut the U.fl connector off of my pigtail, prep the wire / shielding, and solder the wire / shielding on top of the existing solder connection?
My question is how can I use this existing wi-fi as input to a router to make a sub wi-fi for four computers and a wireless printer. Some of my computers may need to be wired into the router.

I will have to continously turn off and on the wifi of the macbook to have it force to look at wifi networks. It will not be able to see also other wifi networks which are present in my neighbors which my windows 7 and other machines can see. After playing around with it I found that the macbook will connect to wifi only after I connect it momentarily via cable. I do this everytime I turn on my macbook.I just upgraded to a Macbook Pro running on Lion and the same thing happened. I tried the same solution of connecting first via cable but to my disappointment, would not see any wifi network including my neighbor's which again the other machines can see. So I am stuck with using cable for now.

IIRC this is directly against what I've read in the past but I forgot where so am unable to say one way or the other. I remember reading that the larger the antenna the more microwaves it radiates.Plus would it make it a health concern? Currently I have my adaptor in the other room maybe 2-3 metres from me separated by a plaster wall. enna I can if it is deemed safe or as much so as before pretty much since I have been using it for a while w/o probs. I was thinking of getting something in the range of 10db-14 db- maybe even going for an outdoor antenna but keeping it inside so long as it is affordable which they seem to be.

I tried contacting Cisco support, but they wound up telling me that if I paid them they might be able to assist, since the router is outside the warranty period. About two weeks ago, all of my devices are having problems connecting to the network and if they do connect, it is unstable (slow speeds or constantly dropping from the network). I know it is not the internet due to the fact that my LAN connection (hardwired) runs great. I am pulling my hair out trying to figure out why. I have restored to factory defauls and started over setting it up with no change in performance. I have the latest drivers on the router and the laptop. I thought maybe it was vista and my laptop or network card, but the fact that I cannot get my phones or ipads to connect with good performance I am starting to think it is something to do with the router. Also, just for more info, I am using Chater cable internet. I am running vista 64x on the laptop.

Is this a setting where the cable connected pc gets preference that I could switch off?
I have an odd problem where every fortnight to three weeks none of my wifi devices (ipap, laptop, 2x android phones) can connect to my network (Linksys E2000, running firmware 1.0.04 with WPA2 personal). They can all see the network and try and connect, but all fail. Rebooting the router has no effect, and the only thing I've found that works is that I have to connect via ethernet cable (which works no problems) and then disable wireless security, save changes, and then immediately reenable wireless security and save changes again. All my devices then will automatically reconnect no problems. It's a bit annoying as my router isn't ideally placed to dig out the cable, but I wondered if there's any way of diagnosing what could be wrong? I've checked the router logs and they're not useful - the only thing I can see of note is in the DHCP log in the period when I suspect the problem arose I get 4 entries of discover / offer / request / ack going to 255.255.255.255 which seems unusual. But the security log is empty so I get nothing from that.
