I have an HP Pavilion laptop running vista.We got charter internet with a new Motorola wireless router.My laptop will connect to the router but not the internet. My wife's Sony Vaio, running vista, my son's mac, my android phone all connect fine. If I plug in a cable, I am on line, but not wireless.

But I can see the network, I can ping every computer on the network, just can't get to the internet.Reinstalled all the drivers, tried renew, netsh commands, flushdns, disabled & reenabled. 2 other computers connect to the internet and each other with no problem. Can connect to other WI Fi's too, but still no internet access.
View 8 Replies View RelatedAfter a couple of hours using the internet, the connection stopped. The wireless router still had an 'Excellent' signal, but it also said I had no internet access. All of the other wireless devices in my house connect to the internet perfectly, including when right next to the laptop.I've tried disabling the firewall and resetting the computer a few times, but nothing seems to pick up the internet access. The troubleshooting guide tells me that it is a problem with the wireless modem, but quite obviously that isn't true.

The problem: My laptop connects to the secure network without prompting for a password,but then does not connect to the internet at all. This same laptop easily connects to the internet via the network as a guest, just as it should. Tried using Easkey, but same result: laptop connects OK to the secure network without a password prompt, but then does not connect to the net.

I have all the computers working fine in the house except my desktop. it connects fine to the network, can see the other computers on the network, can even do a windows update. But when I go to use google chrome or internet explorer it just wont access the internet. It doesn't seem to work either if it is a wired connection, or a wireless connection It was fine before the upgrade and subsequent downgrade. The laptop connects to it, but it shows me that it does not have internet access.I also have a belkin router that I also use. So, when I have the connectivity issues, I connect to the other router. When I use the Cisco Connect application, it goes on for a couple of minutes and then gives the message "If you are not connected to my router SSID name you can't update your router settings".

The Apple router I used saw my work network and I could access files and printers; no changes to my Mac were necessary. It worked out of the box. The new Linksys has Internet connectivity but will not see my work network at all. I have looked into the old settings and cannot figure out how to make the new router see my network. I called Linksys but no dice. What settings need to be changed to see the work network? It is connected to the same ethernet cable as the other router that worked fine.

Tests included some sort of number entry on intenernet explorer "192.6.10020" and i also connected the laptop to the internet with a wire which WORK :) But doesnt continue to work once i disconnect the wire. It'll work fine for five or so minutes but then it'll crash to 0 bps. The lights on the 2wire go red and reconnect after a minute or two. It only does this with my desktop, my laptop and the family computer work just fine.

If you place the laptop next to the cable modem/router, the connection stay up and the download speed is fast (40+Mbps on a 100 MBps connection. I also, can connect via Ethernet cable and get similar or just a little faster connection. ) If I move the laptop away from the cable modem/router, the connection speed and stability drops. Local business tech said it was probably the hard drive & wanted to install new hard drive ($260). I feel perhaps I need to update driver for wireless modem, etc. But since I cannot connect to internet, I have no way of updating (I'm using my newer Windows 7 laptop currently which does connect thru the router). Can I download a driver onto a flash drive & install that way? The computer is still connected to the router but no internet access.There are other computers on the network that connect fine.I have also tried connecting my computer directly to the modem and still no internet.Running windows diagnositc tells me there is no default gateway available. But now whenever my brother's laptop connects(wireless) to the network it makes the router lose connection to the internet so all the devices connected lose connection, too obviously. Everything shows connected to the router, but the router releases it's DHCP whenever he connects. As soon as he turns off his wifi or manually chooses to disconnect... the internet fires right back up within a minute or so. We have no idea what is causing this. If the router is on when I turn my laptop on it won't connect, but it always connects when I do it the other way around. Other devices (like phones) connect to the internet via the same router flawlessly, it's just the laptop that, for some reason, needs to be on first.

I've tried sequencing, turning off my modem/router/pc while waiting two minutes in between each step but it doesn't work. I'm 100% sure the log in and password information to log in is correct (I use PPPoE to access the internet). WLan Driver 1703 was duly installed after the Chipset driver were installed , as recommended.Other mobile devices happily connect to same router. Ubuntu on this laptop was also happy to connect to internet on WLAN, only Win7 fails.
Turned off Win7 firewall , but no change. Shows unidentified connection in Network and Sharing Center. Router SSID etc were correctly entered. Deleted WLAN profile and reentered , no change.
Tried to connect to another wireless router with same result. I can only run this laptop on wired connection to the router. I am at a loss as to what other steps I could take to fix this WLan / internet connection.
