Do you know an easy way to determine the physical location of the device were an IP address is attached? IP Geo location doesn't work well.Is something like this possible? I know it could be if you are the network administrator and know the location of your equipment and stuff.

basically we got sent this new router from Orange (our ISP) and we have had problems with it for the last week. The router model is the Netgear N150 DGN1000. Sometimes I connect it will be absolutely fine, but then the next time I log onto my laptop it can't identify the network, it says connected but doesn't have the globe in the bottom right hand corner of my screen. Then we have to reset the router a few times everytime until it recognises it, even though the settings are saved when we connected last time. It is the same with my sisters laptop. We both have Atheros network adapters so that may be a compatability issue with the router, but my brother connects fine on his everytime. A similar problem occurs with modern warfare 3 on my ps3, it won't let me sign in to playstation network half the time and keeps saying NAT type failed, even though NAT is enabled on my router. get this problem sorted and to get a consistent network connection that connects every time that would be great. We changed the security type to WEP on it a few days ago from WPA and that meant we could sign into modern warfare 3 some of the time rather than never, but we are still having issues.

I have Internet connection in Ethernet Medium connected to a L2 Switch (Cisco 2960). I have 2 Routers (Cisco 2900). I have a webserver to be accessed from Internet. The physical IP address of the server is Private range.
I have configured Stateful NAT as below
157.220.100.61 is Static NAT to 10.1.1.3 using redundancy
Though HSRP is working good, when RTR-1 is down, I am not able to reach Webserver (10.1.1.3) using RTR-2
We found in the that ISP Switch, that even when RTR-1 is down, the MAC address for 157.220.100.61 is still present one pointing to RTR-1 and other pointing to RTR-2. There are 2 MAC address entries for 157.220.100.61

We have recently upgraded oor LAN and we are using couple of Nexus5548UP switches in the core with 2960 stacks as access switches. Each access switches stack is connnected to both core switches with link being port-chanels and VPCs. All is working fine, but our SolarWinds management platform (NPM) is being flooded with "Physical Address changed" events. Here is an example of messages:
NSW_Core_2 - Ethernet1/7 Physical Address changed from 000000003811 to 73616D653811
NSW_Core_2 - Ethernet1/7 Physical Address changed from 200B82B43811 to 000000003811
For each interface I have messages like these repeating.I am not sure what those messages means or if there is actually anything wrong. Performance of the network is good, there are no errors on any interfaces and I do not see anything related in the switch loggs.

My customer wants each ACE4710 (of a highly available cluster) to have its own, dedicated port for management purposes.
According to documentation, IP addressing can be applied to VLAN interfaces, so in order to satisfy the requirement, I should make one port belong to an "access VLAN X", and then apply IP addressing to the corresponding "interface VLAN X". This should satisfy my customer´s requirement in an indirect way.
But... ¿ Can´t I just configure IP address on one of the 4 ethernet ports in order to save the work of building the aforementioned VLAN? I am asking this since I do not have access to a real box in order to verify.

I recently got a new computer from work, and it won't connect to my home network. I restored it to factory condition, and reinstalled the drivers for the wireless adapter card, but it won't identify my home network. The network adapter is a D-Link WDA 1320 and I'm trying to connect it to my home network which is AT&T Uverse, and the router is a 2wire 3800hgv-b. Hopefully that is enough information for at least an educated guess, I'm not so hot when it comes to home networking matters. This doesn't happen on any other computer.

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop that I can't get to identify my wireless network. I can get online using an ethernet connection to the router, but it can't identify the network and the wireless connection gives me just Local Only. I have another laptop that can connect to the router, and the Toshiba can connect to other networks. For whatever reason, the issue only appears when this laptop attempts to connect to this router. I've looked for suggested fixes, but none of the following have worked: Disabling firewall Deleting network adapters and having windows install them again Confirming that dynamic IP address is assigned Confirming that DCHP is enabled Running KB928233 I've tried every suggested fix I could find and nothing has worked. I have a Clear Home modem connecting to a Toshiba Satellite A215 with a Atheros AR5007EG Wireless Network Adapter and Realtek RTL8101E Family PCI-E Fast Ethernet NIC.

Mid-day Thursday one of the laptops in my office suddenly was unable to identify the wireless network.
I have had this problem in the past with the other Dell laptop. Both are Windows 7. Tried uninstalling the adapter 4 times now. Changed SSIDs on my network. Added a SSID. Nothing works.
I am able to identify and get online if I put the IP address and DNS server in. Nothing I do lets it use DHCP.

I recently got my laptop fixed after it being out of commission for about a year (it turns out there was just too much dust collecting in it) and when I got home and tried to connect to my wifi network, I didn't have internet access. I received a message that said I had sucessfully connected to my network but it was only a local connection - no internet. It also shows up as "Unidentified Network." This is peculiar to me because my boyfriend's laptop is able to connect to the internet wirelessly just fine, and I am currently using the wifi on my iPhone. I ran the ipconfig and several ping tests in cmd and used a wifi inspector.

I've used a newly purchased laptop, Acer Aspire 5733Z-4614 to connect to wireless networks before, including the network I'm currently on (/w another laptop), however, recently it has been unable to go through to the internet, but does successfully connect to the network. The encryption seems to be OK, since both laptops are using the same WPA2-Personal AES, and this (currently connected) laptop does just fine. I've read through a few other articles on this site but haven't been able to pinpoint the problem. To my knowledge I have not changed any settings since it has worked correctly.

I'm having trouble connecting my desktop to my home network. It was working fine last night, got home from work and voila, can't connect to my router anymore. My setup is cable modem, router, desktop via ethernet to the router, laptop. The laptop, which I am using right now connects just fine wirelessly to the router. Nothing has been changed to the desktop, no software installs, no hardware installs, etc.. No malware / viruses were found either. I'm using windows vista sp2 x32.- Power cycling - Firmware updates - Network adapter driver updates - DHCP working fine on router - No MAC address filtering - Also tried static addressing - Restoring factory defaults on router - Desktop restore to last night's restore point ( when it was working ) - All kinds of diagnostics - Ethernet cable testing.

My laptop normally always works on the wireless network, but every now and then its randomly stopped working and said "identifying network" followed by "could not identify network, unidentified network." When i would troubleshoot it would say stuff about the default gateway and not a valid ip address. THis was fine because it would always just start working on its own in a day or so. However these arnt coming up when i do the troubleshoot this time, and its been over a week and no improvement.Im obviously writing this from the desktop. and the stats below are the desktop stats.

I've done a very crude drawing of the network setup I'm working on. I just need to run an idea past some network guru's to see if I'm right about my idea.
The existing network consists of
Internet
Proxy Server
Several switches scattered around school
PC's
What the school wants to do is setup a side-along wireless network that uses the same physical switches but on a different subnet. The current subnet is 10.172.1.x .
To facilitate this I'm running a 2008r2 running RIP V2 to route internet traffic to 192.168.1.x subnet. I've had the wireless units use a static address and their own dhcp servers on the 192.168.1.x subnet. Wireless devices found their way to the internet fine. But I'd like to control the addresses from a single point of contact, hence the 2nd domain server running 2008r2. There are reasons for using a 2nd server, I've covered this in previous topics. If it's important, lets call it an intellectual exercise and leave it at that.
The question(s) : If I run a DHCP server on the 2nd server serving 192.168.1.x addresses, then any device on the physical network will obtain either an 192. or a 10. address correct ? The wireless devices will only take a 192. address because the wan address is statically assigned to a 192. address ?
The 2nd question : By setting a static routes out of the 2nd nic on the 2nd server, I can control the dhcp server so it will ONLY route dhcp requests to the statically assigned wireless devices ?

\We have purchased AP 1041 and WLC 2500 and I am doing a testing on the configuration. It is fine when both AP and WLC are sitting on the same network. However, if I connect the AP to the WLC which is on another network, I found that latency is quite high when PING the gateway. Here is the brief topology.
AP (172.30.40.212) ------- (VLAN 1: 172.30.40.202) switch (VLAN 2: 172.30.41.202) ----------- (172.30.41.210) WLC
I try to plug the PC to VLAN 1 and do a PING test to the VLAN 1 interface and it causes some packet loss and high latency. [URL] If I do the debug ip udp on the AP, it seems the result is normal.
*May 28 13:53:36.951: UDP: sent src=172.30.40.212(26610), dst=172.30.41.210(5246), length=1069
*May 28 13:53:36.952: UDP: rcvd src=172.30.41.210(5246), dst=172.30.40.212(26610), length=89
*May 28 13:53:36.953: UDP: sent src=172.30.40.212(26610), dst=172.30.41.210(5246), length=685
*May 28 13:53:36.954: UDP: rcvd src=172.30.41.210(5246), dst=172.30.40.212(26610), length=89
Configuration:
AP 1041 Version: 15.2(2)JB
WLC 2500 version: 7.4.100.0
Both device are configured the static IP address manually with default setting and I do not enable DHCP option 43.

I would like to know something I have experienced quite often these last couple of weeks at my own offices as well as at some of my clients, on machines all running XP Professional, most with SP3 installed.
Sometimes it happens that only one pc at a time would have no physical connectivity to any outbound services like the internet, or any connection to another pc or the server running SBS 2003 for that matter, although the Network Status in the bottom right hand corner says it is connected, even at 100Mbs.
When opening Network Connections and I view the status of the LAN connection, it shows that packets are being sent and received, but I am not even able to ping another IP on the network, timing out every time.
The only solution to the problem seems to be "repairing" the network connection, and then all works fine again.
I would like to know what might be causing this in the first place and also what exactly a "network connection repair" is actually repairing? The reason I am asking is that I would like to find out if it might be a sign of any hardware starting to malfunction or anything in that regard, so that one could be in the clear about what to possible expect in the future.

I have a home network consisting of a Linux machine running dhcpd server, connected to the X3000 router wireless, connected -in turn- to the RE1000 repeater, and -finally- a DHCP client machine.Since I run my own DHCP server, I have configured X3000 to be a Relay.I am getting very strange behaviour. Specifically, the DHCP client sents a DISCOVER packet, which arrives to the server (through the relay/router), the server then replies with an OFFER packet to the Relay, and then - bizarelly! - the relay/router forwards the OFFER reply NOT to the client, but back to the server!Needless to say, when this happens the client does not register with the network.I have captured the packets with wireshark running on the server machine, and you may find them here:url...Does not Linksys have professional online technical support?

Using the quick set up of DIR-600 from the CD, I encounter this message:"Your new router does not appear to be connected properly.Follow these steps:
1)Make sure that your are connecting your new router...
2)Make sure the ethernet cable from your PC is securely...
3)Click Retry to try installing your router again."
I tried all several times and still I end up on that screen message.
