I have a DSL modem and Linksys WRT54G wireless router for several years and haven't had any problems. I decided to move the router and modem to a different room. Upon replugging everything in, I can't get an internet signal from my router. My modem seems to work fine-all lights are on and if I plug my laptop directly into the modem I have internet access. But, if I plug the router into the modem, I can't get internet signal both wired or wirelessly through the router. All of the lights on the router turn on-showing I should be getting internet signal [power light solid, WLAN light on, internet light on], but my computer won't open a website. I've done reboots on the modem and router. The router was working great prior to moving it. My DSL company says everything is fine on their end. I receive a Ping back from the router as well. What else should I check or do I need to do?
Whenever i download something via bit torrent my internet cuts out and reconnects over and over throughout the course of the download. My computer is connected directly to my router with a lan cable so i know its not a wireless issue. The router is a few years old so maybe it just cant handle the heavy traffic anymore. It's a Linksys WRT54G V8 with everything at the factory default settings. I once tried to update the firmware on it but it wouldn't update. I didn't want to ruin the router so i gave up on trying that.
I have Modem and Linksys router I could able to connect to internet through Modem(Direct connection). But when I connected the router I could not get internet access.
My 'network' looks like this: Â CABLE MODEM ===> WRT54G WRT54G Port1 ===> PC Â PC is running Windows/XP sp3 with all updates installed. It has no wireless adapter.WRT54G model number sticker shows ver.2. I don't think the firmware has ever been upgraded. This used to work. What has changed? The laptop that used to connect wireless is dead. I now have a 2nd PC that sits on the same table as the old PC. It has no wireless adapter at this point, but eventually either it, or the old computer, will be getting its internet connection wireless-ly, as the computers will be physically in separate rooms. I can't see how these changes would affect the operation of the router.
So, I restarted my linksys router (WRT54G model) yesterday because of some issues I was having. Right now, I have full bars for connectivity on all my devices (Acer Aspire laptop running Windows 7 starter) when the Ethernet cord is connected from the modem to the router, but I have no internet access. Only when my laptop is connected directly to the modem, I have access to the internet (but ofcourse no wireless).
I have an Asus U31JG with WIndows 7 64-bit. This laptop is a month old to me and the wireless has been acting up since the day I got it, will explain below. I believe my home network is the problem. I have a Linksys WRT54G with WPA Personal encryption. Multiple times a day my internet quits working even though Windows says it has full connection to my router. To fix this, I open command prompt and use "ipconfig /release" and "ipconfig /renew". This fixes the problem for me, it may be a minute or a few hours. The problem is very intermittent and only happens at my home which is why I believe it is my network. However, I changed the wireless channel to 1, the only one around on that channel and tried different security settings. My WiFi works flawlessly if I take my laptop to my friends house where he has a Netgear router. I have also tried a brand new Cisco Router as well as a Netgear router at my house.
I've re installed the driver twice, and the same problem persists in Linux only I just have to disable/enable wireless.
Note: When the internet quits working on my laptop it works on other devices so it is not the internet connection causing this. And my internet is very slow when it is working on my laptop via wireless.
I have a Linksys wrt54g wireless router.I have my modem connected to it through ethernet. All of the lights on my modem are on, except for the standby light which isn't supposed to be on. My router says it has internet and it says wlan is active. But still no internet. I get local only. I went on my setup page for my router. I went to status and its telling me that my ip address, subnet mask, and default gateway are all 0.0.0.0 All 3 dns spots are blank. I did a dhcp release and renew. Still all 0's. I did factory defaults. Still nothing. I did ipconfig /all on my desktop and its listing my dns, my default gateway, my dhcp server, my ipv4 address and my dns suffix.
OS - Vista Home Premium x32 I have a modem (Comcast) connected to my router (Linksys wireless-g /wrt54g v6) connected to my desktop which runs Vista.recently i am unable to connect to internet using my desktop, but I am still able to use my wireless devices such as wii, laptop, phone, ipad etc. with problem When I first boot up computer I receive error UPnP device host has stopped working. I close that and I have no network connections (linksys or LAN connections-icons) in my network and sharing area. Nothing is listed. When i click diagnose issue i receive the follow error A CABLE IS NOT PLUGGED INTO THE NETWORK ADAPTER "LOCAL AREA CONNECTION* 12" I have changed ethernet cords but still the same error. Nothng has been changed and as stated worked fine 2 days ago. I also did IPCONFIG and all i receive are ETHERNET ADAPTER LOCAL AREA CONNECTION* 12 MEDIA STATE.....MEDIA DISCONNECTED and so on. No IP address is listed.
Router: WRT54G Network: 802.11g (and I'm using WEP) Wifi Adapter: Intel R Centrino R Ultimate-n 6300 AGN No. of devices connected to wireless network: 5
My problem is that whenever 2 devices have joined the wireless network, I will not be able to do so despite placing the laptop or iPhone right next to the router, hence getting excellent signal strength. Or, if I am already connected to the network, I get knocked out repeatedly. I don't think it is a hardware or software issue because I'm still able to connect and get a very stable connection after someone leaves the wireless network. This is getting frustrating and I have tried all ways and means to resolve this but to no avail. Is this about some setting that I can tweak, e.g. to allow more users onto the network? But this has already been configured to '50'!
I am replacing a WRH54G with a WRT54G. Â First I unplugged everything and waited 5 minutes. Then I plugged my ethernet cord from the DSL modem into the WRT54G. Then I plugged in the DSL modem. I waited for the lights to stop blinking. Then I plugged in the WRT54G and waited for LEDs to show connection. Then I plugged the ethernet cord from the WRT54G to the computer. Then I turned on the computer. I was able to access the Interface for the WRT54G but I was not able to connect to the internet. I tried power cycling multiple times both the DSL modem and the WRT54G. I was unable to access the internet. Finally I plugged the WRH54G back in and everything worked fine. why the old WRH54G can connect to the internet and the WRT54G cannot?
My router used to work. I updated the firmware to 4.21. xx and after that I can't connect to internet. When I connect directly to modem, I can go to the internet . I power recycled etc but when I connect to the router, it says limited connectivity. It shows autoconfigurtion ip:169.254.251.135. I don't know why this is so.I don't have the setup cd disk but I read the users' guide and it seems that I really don;t need the cd. But no matter what I do , I can't get to 192.168.1.1 .
I just switched from DSL to Cable and now i can't get internet to the Linksys router. I can connect to it from a wireless laptop but just not get on the internet I've read other posts about doing the "clone mac" address and doing the power cycle but still cannot get the Linksys to respond. I enabled the WRT54G to clone the mac address and have spent about 10 hours in two days trying to get this to work and looking online, etc....
I have a wrt54g v5 router. I cannot connect to the internet through my router. I called the cable company and they told me that the router probably reset from a power outtage and reconnect. i power cycled, i tried to log onto the router via 192.168.1.1 but the connections were spanish to me.
I am havng a problem with my WRT54G v5. I have 2 laptops that cannot connect to the internet using wireless. I connect them to my home lan using wireless and look at files on other computers but no internet. When I connect the laptops using ethernet they both access the internet fine. I also have 3 desktops (using ethernet) which work fine. I have tried the followingTurning off wireless security and laptop wire wallsDownloading latest firmwareChecking TCPIP settings Using a WRT54G v6 router - same problemIpconfig shows connection to the router at 192.168.1.1 and an address of192.168.1.100. I can ping 192.168.1.1 successfullyMy internet provider is VerizonThis worked at one point in time (May) but has not worked since June.
wrt54g wireless router so we could get Netflix through our Wii. I have a one year old Compaq and am running Windows 7 with a wireless Internet connection through my service provider. I installed the router with no problems and was able to get online with the Wii. However, I am no longer able to get Internet access on my desktop. It shows that my Internet is connected, but it shows "No Network Access". I had gotten on fine at first, then I went to the 192.168.1.1 site to configure my data. I changed my time zone and then went to secure my connection. I cannot remember the exact option I chose, but I think it was something like WAP2 Personal. As soon as I selected that the screen froze and I can no longer access that site or get online through the router.
I went to set up a passowrd on the my WRT54G. I actually clicked SES and pretty sure i pressed reset security. Does this reset the router to factory default? Or the security settings to factory default?I didn't save after realising that I had done wasn't going to change my password. Now I can't access the internet. I have tried everything, resetting, restarting, waiting, banging my head aqgainst the wall.I have another router, an E1000. This will not connect either. internet works fine when hardwired to the modem.
I have a WRT54G wireless router and it goes through periods where it constantly has to be reset cause it keeps dropping the internet connection. Once you do a power cycle it starts working right again. But sometimes goes out 5mins later.I have the router hooked up to a Windows XP computer via an ethernet cable...and I have 1 Windows Vista laptop, 2 Android phones and a PS3 connected via wireless. The PS3 is set up following these directions: (not sure if this is what's screwing it up)  "Step 1:Open a web browsersuch as Internet Explorer.
Step 2:Go to the Address bar and enter your router's IP address ("192.168.1.1" is the default IP of most Linksys routers) then press [Enter].
Step 3:When the router's web-based setup page appears, click Applications& Gaming then click DMZ.
Step 4:Select Enable on DMZ and under DMZ Host IP Address enter the PlayStation®3's IP address.
- Try 192.168.1.10 or 192.168.1.20 Save Settings. - This IP address will need to typed in manually during online setup on ps3. I think its the first address you enter (I think this is the game's IP address). - Use 192.168.1.1 for the wireless router's IP address on your PS3.
Step 5:Now, click Administration and Disable UPnP. Make sure you also disable UPnP on your ps3 online setup. Save Settings.
Step 6:Click Status. Write down the DNS 1: dns number and DNS 2: dns number on a piece of paper. You will enter these for DNS 1 and DNS 2 numbers during online ps3 setup. NOTE: The IP address listed on the Status page for your wireless router is not used for any setup on your ps3. Remember, to get into ps3 online setup, you have to choose Manual during setup so you can enter these numbers.
Step 7:The WP key crap and whatever during online setup should be skipped unless you specifically setup some kind of password for your wireless router when you installed it. I didn't and just left that part blank and skipped over it.That should get your wireless router and game setup. If you're still stuck, drop me a message. And, remember to do this setup after that:Linksys has a great tech support at their site. url...
I have a ps3 and did all of the wireless and ps3 online setup for it using their site technical support. Doing that seemed to throw a monkey wrench into my internet connection a while after that. I just left all of my game settings in place and did this: Logon on to your wireless router. To do this, you will probably go to url.. by typing this address into your address box on your internet explorer. Logon. If you don't know how to logon, go to and follow the instructions in technical support.
I just got a Linksys router from a moving neighbor. Â The router is a Linksys WRT54G v5. She didn't have the power adaptor, so I found one that is 12VDC 500mA and it works. Â The factory resetted the device. Â I always get a signal, but it has that little error sign on it. Â It says my internet connection is broken. Â I believe this is caused by a bad ethernet port, but I have gotten into the internet sometimes. I have another router but it doesn't work either. On the other router I get a signal that as no error sign and says "Internet Access" but I still cannot access the internet. Â My laptop's network card works.
I have a problem with my new Galaxy S2 and getting Internet connection trough my Linksys-router. I can connect to the router and my S2 shows and says my WIFI-connection is OK. But still I can't get any Internet-traffic to my S2.The wireless router is working OK for my old IPhone and MacBook Pro, but not for my S2. I have tried the S2 on other wireless access points, and it is working fine.I have tried a lot of different wireless settings, but nothing seems to fix the problem. From my S2 I can ping the IP-addresses of the router, all DNS, gateway and IP-address of the router. I can also ping the phones IP-address from my router. But I can't ping anything "outside" the router. Here are some data:
I have a WRT54G router and a Dell computer. I have been connecting wirelessly to this router with this computer for about 3 years. Now, the computer sees the router but it won't connect to the internet. I have other computers that connect fine, so I thought it was the wireless adapter in my computer. However, I went to someone else's house and connected perfectly.
When i connect my computer directly to my modem i could connect to the internet but when i connect the modem to the internet port on the WRT54G and then connect my computer to one of the ports on it i can't connect to the internet at all.
I wired it all up correctly, and Continue to get "error 322: check router" upon every attempted install. I did some research and tried releasing and renewing IP amongst restarting all networking devices AND PC's. Peculiar enough, I could connect AND get online wirelessly from a netbook, but neither of my 2 PC's could connect via a wire. I got a defective router, is it possible the ports are malfunctioning? because the lights are on, but 3 or all of the 4 lights are continually on when only 2 ports are plugged in
I have to reboot my router a couple of times per day because I lose WAN access. Â This occurs with both the wireless and ethernet connections. Â Basically, I see that I'm connected to the router, but have a self-assigned IP. Â Power cycling the router does the trick. Â I never had this problem before, so I'm wondering what's up. Â The firmware has long been up to date. Â Router version is 8.0. Â
Due to some reason I had to reset my linksys router WRT54G and now I am not able to connect to internet using my router. I tried coupld of settings followings some suggestion over internet sites but doesn't work for me. Still I get no network access message.
I recently moved into a new place and while unpacking I found my Linksys WRT54G router and I am currently trying to set it up to I can connect to it wirelessly. I am able to access the administrative settings fine, and have got it to finally connect to the router, but there is no Internet connection, nless I am hardwired into my cable modem. I dont believe I have the software installed on this computer and I cant seem to find a place to download it even on the Linksys website, and the firmware is probably in bad need of updating.
Wired connection to the router works fine. But it drops all the wireless devices (PC, phone, tablet) multiple times each day, sometimes only 30-60 minutes after reconnecting. Power cycling the router "fixes" the router and allows reconnection. There are 2 topics in the FAQ section that looked good: Getting poor or no signal from a wireless routerTop causes of dropping wireless connection on a Linksys routerbut clicking on those does not bring up anything.
I have a WRT54G conected to a desktop through a wire, and conected to a laptop wirelessly. It starts working fine, and after a while i get no internet connection in my laptop nor my desktop. After this happens i disconect the power source from the router, i conect it back again and it starts working.
I have an Option wireless router that powers have of my house and i connected a WRT54G for the other end of the house, but the problem is that the Option router needs a password to access the internet for the first time, so when I try to do the quick setup on the WRT54G it can't find the internet to finish
My Linksys Router WRT54G has recently (yesterday) started dropping the internet after being online for a few hours. The current setup has been in place for several years. Â I started with the Broadband provider and they verified that the signal and cable modem is working properly. Â My own tests back this up. At first I simply reset the router. Â Unplugged it for 30 seconds and plugged it back in. Â Internet is back. Â Then I tried resetting the cable modem and the router. Â This works as well but the problem presists. Resetting the router alone has the same affect. So, something with the router is causing it to drop the internet. Â The network does not drop however. Â I can still use my network drive and the computers indicate a network with no internet connection.
We have a WRT54G (hardware v6) which we have used for a couple years in conjunction with a cable modem to make a home wifi network. In the past few days, we've been unable to access any sites in the IP range 130.160.x.x (that is, those at The University of Alabama). A particular example is ua.edu (130.160.4.131). The rest of the internet works fine. This is on Ubuntu 12.04, Windows 7, or Android ICS; with Chrome, Firefox, IE9, or SSH. If I connect the modem to an Ubuntu laptop directly by USB, I can get to ua.edu just fine. Â I tried resetting the router to factory defaults, upgrading the firmware, connecting via ethernet rather than wifi, and using the Google DNS servers 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 in the router, but the problem persists. Naturally, UA's helpdesk, Comcast, and Linksys were all either useless or uncooperative. [code]
I am using the following model and version:  Model No.: WRT54G, Ver. 7.0  I am not able to connect to the internet through Linksys Wireless Router.  I have tried pinging the default gateway of the ISP provided router IP from the router utility, "Diagnostic", but I am not able to ping it.
I cannot connect to the internet via the wireless network from my router. Currently, I can connect to the wireless network, however I cannot access the internet, but I am able to access the internet with an Ethernet cable in the same router. This is a fairly recent development as we have used this router for wireless internet access (our modem has a wireless network built into it, but it is unreliable) for upwards of 8 months now without problem. One day it simple restored itself to the default name and we were no longer able to access the internet through the wireless portion.
