Linksys Wired Router :: RVO82 Firmware Updates Not Being Applied?
Feb 12, 2011
I'm havoing probems with my network "stuttering" and wanted to update the firmware. The RVO82 is currently running v2.0.0.19-tm and I have downloaded the latest; V 4.0.0.0.07-tm and tried to upload it to the router using both Safari and Firefox but the update won't take. I have followed the instructions to go to a fixed ip of 192..168.1.50 and have a connection directly to the router( bypassing the switch) but cannot get it to update.

Will this router ever see a firmware update so that we can have some additional functionality? The version of Twonky Media server that was bundled with this router was old to begin with, and now we are stuck with it? I tried the E4200 but it just kept spinning my drive that's parked in a ThermalTake BlackX, at least the 3000 doesn't do that, but when can we expect some new firmware, it's been 8 months. I used to love Linksys, but with this kind of support I may have to move to a different brand, and I bet I am not alone. it doesn't break the E3000 like you broke the 4200.

I tried to upgrade the firmware of my RV042 router. I downloaded the file (RV0XX-v4.0.0.07-tm-20100819-code.bin) and check the cheksum. When I try to upload it, I have the message "413 Request Entity Too Large". How can I do ? Should I unzip the .bin file (it's about 30Mo) ?

I'm trying to upgrade the firmware on my BEFSR81 v3 cable router (firmware version 2.45.xxx) on a Mac. I accessed the interface via Safari browser, followed the instructions, got a message saying not to interrupt the process, but it never completed. So I tried it again (downloaded another copy of the firmware update), and same thing. No choice but to interrupt it. My internet connection seems to be working fine, but now I can't access the router via the browser. I don't think the firmware actually updated.
Should I power down the router and then reset it?

I have been reading posts on this board that state that after upgrading the firmware on a router that you must re-set the router and re-configure your connection. I have just downloaded and installed the latest firmware update for the BEFSX41 (1.52.16.4). When the installation was complete, my network connection dropped out. I then got a "searching for ip address" icon in my notification bar. The connection then completed and my network seems to be running as it should. When I check the set-up screen for the router, it shows the new firmware version. Do I still need to re-set the router? I'm a bit confused by all of this. I have Comcast cable for my isp.

I have three locations using the linksys wrvs4400n router with IPSec VPNS. They all work fine and point back to a Server2003. I just added a fourth location with the same router but this new router has firmware v2.x, where the others have firmware v1.x. When I connected the new router into the VPN network, it caused the other tunnels to go down. When I take the new router with firmware v2.x offline, everything else seems to work fine. Can the v2.x firmware cause the other VPNS on v1.x firmware to go down and not work properly? Do I need to upgrade the firmware so all 4 linksys wrvs4400n routers are operating the same version number so not to cause the tunnels to disconnect?

BEFSX41 Firmware Version to upgrade, version 1 or 2?
I've been using this router since 2006, upgrading the firmware to version 1.52.15 when released in 2007. At that time I think I selected the edition 1 rather than edition 2. Basing decision on the fact that the device had no indication of which model version was correct indicated on the manufacturing labels on the bottom. So I assume edition 1.
Is there any way to tell which hardware release I really have? Maybe by MAC address, or Serial number?
Have not had any problems with the 1.52.15 firmware version, however, I have seen numerous log entries for the following:
2011-03-20 11:45:23 ii=MAX_HTTPSESS2011-03-20 11:45:33 ii=MAX_HTTPSESS2011-03-20 11:45:39 ii=MAX_HTTPSESS
and
2011-03-20 10:53:09 UDP from 202.103.52.147:5060 to nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn : pppp(my ip address & port) followed by 2 to 10 of the following entries:2011-03-20 11:01:33 500 _upnp_Disable
the sending URL indicated as a PRC (Chinese) university with negative traceroute results, nothing really alarming as nothing is getting inside the firewall. Just packets dropped from the senders IP. I am keeping track of the pattern and activity levels.
Will probably just block the whole addy range at the router firewall and PC firewall. AT&T is totally ineffective in blocking this sort of back alley activity.
I've seen only one brief and somewhat dated reference to the "ii=MAX_HTTPSESS" entry and will tackle that issue after updating the firmware to 1.52.16, I haven't found any authenticated tech references for this. I can only make some educated guesses on tweaking HTTP settings.

I recently updated the firmware on my BEFSR81 v3.1 but would now like to revert to the previous version.
Where I can find the earlier version? I've got 2.51.4, build 006 Aug 21 2009 and need the one before.
It's not a critical problem, but more of an annoyance. I power everything here off one big switch which goes off overnight. Before the update I'd just switch it all on in the morning and everything would, after a minute or so, work fine. Now, however, I have to power up the router a minute after the modem or it just sits there doing nothing. That's OK when I'm here, but if it's just the wife she can't reach the back to do it.

Q. Which firmware version is the most up to date?

I have what I believe is an original (V1) version of the BEFSR41 gateway/router. The label underneath the device only shows the model number with no version information. Current firmware version on the device is 1.46.02, dated Aug 03 2004.
Can I confirm (1) that I indeed this router is at hardware version 1? If that is the case it appears from your web site that version 1.46.02 is in fact the current and only firmware version for the device and that there are no firmware version upgrades available.
The DHCP software current does not have IP address reservation, which I am interested in adding if possible via firmware upgrade. If not then I have to consider whether I want this feature bad enough to replace the router.

I'm trying to upgrade the firmware of a BEFSX41 wired router from version 1.43.3 (apparently the first revision after the original realease) to 1.52.15 (the latest I found), but I can't get it to finish. I'm using a Mac with all the latest versions of OS, Safari, and Firefox. When I use Safari to initiate the upgrade, it get's to the point where it says "Please wait ! Setup will take a few minute _____" and nothing else happens after that, even after waiting 30 minutes or more. When I use Firefox it gets to the same "Please wait" message, then a few minutes later Firefox displays an error message "Connection Interrupted: The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading. The network link was interrupted while negotiating a connection.

I own a Linksys BEFSR41 v 3.1. I've been attempting to set up a home network with three computers; my main desktop running Windows 7 Pro x64, a netbook running the same OS and a box running Windows Home Server 2011 x64. The firmware listed for my router was initially 1.05.03.
My router has the issue with resetting its administrative password to the factory default and I've been unable to set up remote access to my LAN and home server. I decided to try updating the router's firmware, but none of the versions listed fit the one I have. The label on my router says v 3.1, but Cisco's site only has a 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, then skips to 4.1, 4.2, etc. The instructions on the site warn not to use a version for a different model, but are vague as to exactly what that refers to, as the model # and the version # aren't clearly delineated.
Anyway, I tried using the latest firmware and received the, "File Pattern," error. Although it didn't seem like anything had changed, I reset the router just to be safe, then tried the v 3.0 firmware update, thinking that the software was intended for all revisions of v3.0. This time it reported updating without a problem, so I reset the router again and went back to the admin page in my browser to check the firmware version listed. To my annoyance, the firmware is now listed as 1.05.00 - i.e. an earlier version than what was shipped on the router.
This means that not only is the issue of the password resetting not fixed, but any other fixes included in the original firmware are now wiped out as well and, needless to say, I still can't set up remote access properly.
How do I restore the firmware version? Neither a reset nor a, "Restore to Factory Defaults," does this. How do I find an actual update for the router? I can't find any mention of a v 3.1 on Cisco's site, let alone support information specific to this model and version.

We are a relatively new Cisco partner. We used to work with CDW and now we are buying from distribution and selling directly. We buy a lot of ASA 5505 units from D&H.
My question is, aside from the disc that comes with the unit where do we download the latest firmware image and management software? It appears you have to have a contract ID to get these through the Cisco website. Do we not get "car blanche" access as a Cisco partner to these resources?
Also doesn't the Cisco ASA 5505 at least come with a license for the latest firmware? Many ship with very old software and even old CDROMs.

I have a BEFSR41 that has been flawless to date but it is version 1 (I think). I have gigabit nics on all PCs but I am wondering if the old version 1 is only capable of 10mbps throughput. If that is the case then it may explain why I can get up to 20mbps download speeds off the modem and under 10mbps off the router. The router has the latest firmware and otherwise no problems.

2 brand new routers (BEFSR41 v4.3) Firmware - 2.00.4 Build 8, 10-19-2010 - both same problems:Frequent Internet drops, daily resets required.I'm 99.9% sure there's either a defect in this model, or a serious screwup in this firmware. My router uses an IP address, with DHCP off. Also, we have cable modem. Plugging in directly to cable modem works fine.I am an experienced network admin, so refrain from the usual reset / try again response. Have there been many issues with this model and / or firmware? Have there been many returns?

I have upgraded the firmware on my Linksys BEFSR41 V4.3 router. On this router i used Statis IP (so DHCP enabled). This worked fine on my network, until this upgrade. Now when i try to ad another static IP , or when i want to change something in the Routing-tab, i get this message ' Wrong Gateway Input! It should be the same subnet with WAN IP'. Strange because i haven't changed anything in the settings.I already did a complete reset on the router, still the same problem.

Running Windows 7 64bit, ISP is EATEL connected through a PACE 3801HGV to a new Linksys EA6500. Since the initial setup ( I was walked through the setup via Linksys support) I cannot access windows update, (the error screen tells me to restart my computer, "Windows update cannot currently check for updates because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer", and I have done so 25 times) and I cannot update my Microsoft security essentials. Windows firewall tells me that the 'advanced settings snap-in' failed to load. Is it safe to uninstall and try to reinstall these or is there a way to start the services?

Is there a way to get notifications (emails) when the external ip changes and the rotuer updates dyndns?i need to get an email about this change of ip. The only constraint is it has to work without a computer attached to the router as it would have to be powered on 24/7 So ip change notifiers like trueip or ipcheck won't work as they are programs that run in a computer.
