I'm having some difficulty getting into the settings web page on my e4200 router while the modem is running. I can access it soon as the modem is turned off. Additionally I downloaded the Android cisco express connect app for my tablet which does allow me to access the router while the modem is switched on.

I kept getting the 401 authorization required message. After all that I reset my router and used the disk to setup again. After that I went again to the 192.168.1.1 and got the request for authorization, entered admin in the PW and it does nothing, just reloads the request and browser keeps connecting. I have WIN 7 HP, use Firefox 5.0 mostly, but tried on IE8 as well and it does the same thing. I am attempting to open a port.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a continuing problem with my WRT54G2 wireless router. I set up my network, changing the password for the router, and I change the SSID, as well as the encryption password. When I set it up, and after changing passwords etc. I always log off, go back and log on, and it works fine. Once I set up the network, over time, I'll notice a device will no longer connect via wireless. When that happens, I try to log on to the router, and can not connect to the router using either Firefox or IE. When I try, I get Internal Server Error, or just nothing. I can ping the router, and if I run an IPCONFIG at this point, the default gateway does show 192.168.1.1. Every time this starts to happen, I must do a hard reset of the router. Once I do this, I can connect, and log on using the default settings, and re-set everything. This is a HUGE pain, as it takes a lot of time, and happens way too often.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an E4200 V2. The 2.4ghz and 5ghz bands are both enabled and named differently. From what I've read they should both show up in the list of networks when I'm connecting other computers etc? All I'm getting is the 2.4ghz.Everything on the router is working fine as far as I can tell, just can't seem to access the 5ghz band. Maybe I recently upgraded to the Smart WiFi firmware but it's the same situation.The two bands have the same password with two of the first three letters switched on one.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have the e4200v2 with Smart Wifi (formerly Connect Cloud). On my previous routers, I've been able to shut down internet access for my ENTIRE home network at a specific time each night and then re-allow access again at a specfic time the next morning.
In using the Parental Controls on the 4200v2, it appears I have to set times for EACH and EVERY device on my network. I have 4 kids and a very heavy wireless network, including 3 Xboxes, 1 PS3, a Bluray player, a Directv receiver, an RCA media streaming device, 4 laptops, 1 desktop, 4 IPODs, and 1 IPhone on my network.
My goal is to shut down the internet access completely each night at Midnight, then re-allow access the next morning at 6am in order to ensure my kids aren't up all night playing games, etc. But the the Parental Controls on the 4200v2, it appears I have to do this for EVERY device, instead of being able to just shut down access across the board like I could with the old Linksys web-based interface.
I just upgraded my old WRT54G to a E4200v2 with firmware 2.0.36.126507. I installed it using the Cisco Connect CD. At first it seemed OK, but then I noted that I cannot open (or takes forever) many websites, in particular those requiring Adobe Flash Player to view. In addition, it appears that access IPv6 Internet or sites is impossible, even though IPv6 is enabled in the GUI. Is there anything I am missing in the configuration/set up of the router?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just found a slightly unsettling bug in the E4200v2 (running the latest firmware 2.0.36 build 126507).Administration > Local Management Access > Access via Wireless ... set to DISABLED. HOWEVER, when I attempted to access the web interface on a handy iPAD I had absolutely no problem getting through to the web interface (after providing username and passsword).Limiting access to wired clients seems like a simple a prudent measure ... which is why this option is there for the paranoid among us.This seems like a black-and-white bug.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am using a Linksys E4200V2 for my routing needs. I have 6 hardwired connections and 9 wireless connections. Due to my hardwired connections all going into one corner of my basement my router is placed there. When I had an E3000 my wireless coverage was fairly acceptable. After a power surge took out a bunch of stuff (which I have remedied with a whole home surge protector and better surge protectors for my devices) my E4200 replacement just doesn't have as good of coverage, especially in our office. This renders wireless to our phones/tablet useless in there (wife's laptop and my desktop are hard wired when in the office). I have a fairly large home so no wireless router is going to give me great coverage in my office, which is furthest from my router and has a bunch of obstructions to go through.I want to do an access point. I tried with an old Belkin Wireless G router, but it is only working when it wants to and there is probably a reason I stuff it in a box years ago. Of course I gave my other working Netgear N-router to my mom...so I'm out of wireless routers.
I want to buy something that:
- Is under $50
- Can do dual-band wireless N
- If it has Gigabit Ethernet ports that would be sweet as I could make use of them, but I can live without
- Can either repeat the wireless signal from my Linksys or be hard-wired as I have Ethernet connections all over my home. I'd suspect there would be a performance benefit from a hard wired unit.
Usage - from a hardwired perspective, I do some heavy LAN file transfers and high-bandwidth streaming on a semi-regular basis. For wireless, some random downloading (nothing time urgent), surfing and video streaming off the web is about it, and Airplay from our iOS devices (iOS stuff is only Apple stuff we have, rest is Win 7/8 and Android) with Apple TV being hardwired.
I think my E4200v2(Firmware Version: 2.0.37 ) should redirect to CCC as this link, is the CCC just could be used in US?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a synology DS411 and a ATV2.DS411 is always downloading from internet,normally the download' bandwidth of DS411 is around 2MB/s.In my old netgear 3800,i just need to active WMM and add a port OQS that the port connection DS411 is low.Then when I watch stream video from internet on my ATV2.I can see the DS411's bandwidth will be reduced automatic.I replaced 3800 with E4200v2 some days before,and I have done the same config ,turn WMM ,set ATV MAC to highest and DS411 MAC to lowest. But when I watch ATV2,DS411's bandwidth seems not be reduced,so I cant get the smooth video Its very bad.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a static IP on the ATA (Linksys PAP-2T) ...the router will only pick it up occasionally...most times it does not. The ATA is on and working (I can call in/out) but I can't see how the router can't find/see it. I have added the ATA to the DHCP reseve list but still nothing. I have the port fowarded for the ATA but when I go to canyouseeme.org it comes up as "Connection timed out"...becuase I think it can't see the ATA behind the Router.

I want to be ablt to use a specific DNS server rather than the one issues by my ISP.No matter what values are in the Static DNS 1, 2 and 3 the router continues to pull a DNS from my ISp. My POS old D-link 615 was able to utilize a custom DNS server with no issues so surely ther emyst be a way to do the same on the E4200.

My current set-up:
E4200v2: 5ghz - Wireless-N only (SSID home-n), 2.4ghz - Wireless-B/G only (SSID home-g)
PLWK400: SSID home-ext (separate part of the home)
I am using WPA2 Personal security if that makes a different. One question would it be "better" to have the same SSID for all 3 wireless settings (5ghz, 2.4ghz, and PLWK400)? Would the various devices know which frequency to switch to for best speed and range?
I tried to upgrade my router firmware to the latest 2.1.39.145204 (downloaded from cisco website) but seems like the upgrade didn't go well. I am unable to open the admin webpage. I can get to the login page on 192.168.1.1, after i enter the admin password the next page doesn't load. It keeps showing 'Waiting' at the center of the page forever.. I have tried to do the 30/30/30 reset to no avail, i tried to do tftp downgrade to older firmware version but the tftp boot doesn't even start. Is there any other way i can either fix the current firmware upgrade or downgrade it to the previous version?

Last night the e4200 crashed on me when I went to reset the router I noticed the CISCO light was blinking very slowly and I had no network connection. I power cycled the router and still no connection so I hit factory reset button. Nothing happened. Did a 30/30/30 reset nothing happened. At this point I have a 34 day old plastic brick on my desk and I'm back to using my old WRT160N. how to unbrick this router?
View 3 Replies View RelatedNo problem setting up the FTP server on the router. It's working perfectly from inside the LAN. But any attempt to access the built-in server from the WAN side is fruitless. I found that if I turn off the IP4 SPI on the router, I can suddenly connect to the built-in ftp server without issue from the Internet. If the SPI option is checked, its a no go.
Is this a bug? I can't imagine that it is intentionally set up such that you have to turn off the firewall in order to use the FTP function externally. At least it isn't mentioned anywhere I can find and it wouldn't seem logical.
New E4200v2 @ firmware 2.0.36. The FTP server will go offline about once every 24 hours. I can revive it by simply clicking on Save in Storage/Administration or FTP Server. I don't have to change anything, just click Save. How can I keep the FTP running?
"Disk" is a 16gb USB flash memory. Formated FAT32, 1 partition, 6 users besides Admin and Guest, 2 groups besides Admin and Guest.
I've had this E4200v2 for a while now, and it's been giving me a headache because even at default wireless setting with the passphrase, it literally won't ever connect from a linksys wireless adapter using the mixed WPA2 Personal or the 'EasyConnect' button feature or the PIN, with both side's fireware updated to the latest. There is no issue connecting to the router as long as the security is off. I've tried other form of encryption to no luck.

View 3 Replies View RelatedDecided to go with the e4200v2. 199.99 for a router 450 + 450 with a little extra features. very pricey but thought it would be worth it. I got it hooked up with no problems for the first 5 minutes. I have 35mbps down wired from the router and on the 2.4 and 5.0 ghz band about 25 feet from the router was getting just that!! no loss really. However after a few more speed test i noticed it was fluctuating very slow to fast. Also the 2.4ghz was only 144mbps. after getting in the router i changed the 2.4ghz to channel 6 and 5ghz to 153 and changed to 20mhz only on the 2.4 and 40mhz only on the 5.0ghz. Now all is doing well .
1. why am i not able to run the 2.4ghz on 40mhz? when set to auto i have a lot slower speed tests even know it is running on 20mhz only because I'm only getting 144mbps. I don't know why its not running 40mhz ? i don't know why i have to change it to 20mhz only why cant i leave it on auto and if i had a day with little interference it would switch to 40? when left on auto the speeds go down drastically
2. i notice that some channels are brutally slow on both bands. like 1.5mbps ? is this normal
3. is this even worth it if the 2.4 band is acting this way?
4. from insider i see that 5.0ghz only connects to two channels isn't suppose to be 3?
