Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 With Proper Throughput?
Feb 12, 2012
I have an E4200 running firmware v1.0.03.Works fine for a period of time (might be hours, might be days) then throughput drops to something in the range of 1-3M when typically I'll see 6-8M (DSL). I can reset the DSL modem, hubs, etc but the problem isn't fixed until I reset the E4200; so I've pretty much narrowed it down to the router.

I'm using E4200 (fw 1.0.03) as AP and EDIMAX 6675nD as a client. I can't get over ca 10MB/s data througput even there aren't any other communication loads. Test conditions are: 5GHz band, no other networks in the band, distance 2m without any obstacles, no other data transfers (except the test), data source is NTB on GLAN port of Linksys, data sink is NAS at GLAN port of Edimax, test file is 0.5GB file. The NTB and NAS doesn't seems to be a bottleneck, because NTB connected directly to the Edimax does over 50MB/s. Both the E4200 and 6675nD are (should be) capable of 450Mbit/s @ MCS23. Strange thing is that none of them allows setting of MCS23 in their manual settings. It ends with MCS15. While forcing the E4200 to a specific MCS (in the hidden wireless_advanced menu) the MCS15, 14, 13 and auto give very similar results. The throughput drops by MCS 12 and lower indexed MCSs.The 10 MB/s seems to be a low number.... and (based on internet forums) I'm not the only one fighting the magic number 10MB/s. What is the reason of the ca 10MB/s bottleneck? And the resons why both of the routers are quiet about the MCS16 to 23 schemes in their menus, while their labels aren't?

Internet was working great a few days ago with my e2000 and comcast as my ISP. I've got a few devices connected through ethernet connections on the unit. We also connect to the e2000 wirelessly.Problems started yesterday with no internet. Last night I rebooted everything and still nothing works. Connected laptop to cable modem directly. Wasn't getting internet connectivity so I called Comcast. They reset my modem and everything started working fine. Now I can directly connect from cable modem to laptop and internet works fine. I try connecting the modem to the router and still no internet.

I have 2 laptops in my home, I had no problem getting one to connect to the internet. The second one I'm having trouble connecting, I am wireless, I didn't have a problem at my old house with another laptop connecting to the internet with this router. I'm trying to save myself some money by not going through my wireless company, and end up having to get their router, which I already have their modem.

Buy new one Linksys E3200. Two day using and now have such problem. Every 30 minutes WiFi connection disappears for 10-15 sec. Then appear, but you can't connect to WiFi network for next 30 seconds. Update firmware of router to last version, but it doesn't work.

I recently bought a WRT160NL router. I have a 10/10 Mbps internet connection, but when I am connected via the router it only gives me ~2.5/1 Mbps speeds. Connecting my computer directly to the "wall" results in 10/10 Mbps speeds. I have tried connecting to the router both wireless and by wire, it makes no difference. The internal wired and wireless speeds are fine, as I have copied files over the internal switch and via the wireless network at relatively high speeds. I have not fiddled with any connection settings except creating a few permanent DHCP leases.

I have a E2500 connected via LAN to my network via a switch or hub through a sonic wall and into the modem out to the internet. The problem is that I am only getting +/- 5Mpbs Down and +/-7 Mbps up through the router.
If I connect my computer to the network with out going through the router my speeds are more in the range of +/-28 Mbps down and 16Mbps up. I have been working with Linksys support but they have not been able to assist me with this yet! Is there any configuring I should be doing at the firewall or to the router to tell it to open up the port for faster speeds?

I need properly configuring the RVS4000 device. I need all devices to be on the same subnet (192.168.0.x) and if I am drawing this out correctly in my head I would perform the following:Connect LAN port of RVS4000 to LAN port of the switch and statically assign a LAN IP of 192.168.0.251 to the RVS4000Switch is connected to LAN port of the 2Wire (192.168.0.254)Change operating mode from Gateway to Router in the RVS4000 Connections to the RVS4000 will obtain a DHCP IP address from the 2Wire that's upstream. As the WAN port of the RVS4000 would be unused, will it still answer requests for a VPN connection assuming the proper ports are forwarded to it?

I have been running some test to see what I can do for speed to the interenet and NAS drive.I have a NIC card (1394) and the max connection I get is 400 Mbps. The card is suppose to be 10/100/1000 card and E3000 is the same... so why can't I connect at 1000?Max transfer I get to my NAS is 64-80 Mbps. Is there any way I can get this to be faster? I have a 1TB western digital drive attached. If I went with a NAS system like a Synology BYOD system could I get faster speeds for transfers if the NIC on the system was a 10/100/1000?`

I've just upgraded to FIOS quantum service. (50 MB down, 25 up). I have a Linksys 2500 connected to the FIOS router. The FIOS (ActionTec) router provides the full advertised speeds with any speed test service I try. But with the 2500 connected to the FIOS router I get download speeds about 3MB. The MTU on the linksys is 1500. It's connected correctly and is running it's own DHCP server. (Why am I doing this? I try to avoid the ActionTec routers, they have broken many services in the past.)The 2500 firmware is up to date. I've tested on the wireless and wired (ethernet) interfaces.

When you have both a dual band router, and a dual band adapter, does that give you a theoretical peak of 600mbps on the Adapter? or does it only connect on one frequency at a time from the adapter?

I have been trying to find out what the maximum Wan to Lan thruput is for the Linksys Cisco BEFSR 41 Etherfast router..
Have both the version 3 and 4 models and want to deploy them into both 6mb and 12mb DSL networks.. From what I have found the version 1 and 2 have 10mb wan ports and the version 3 and 4 have 10/100mb ports.. There seems to be hardware upgrades as well with the CPU and memory speeds but what they are I do not know for sure.. Found someone stating that they went from a 50mhz CPU to a 166mhz CPU to a possible 220mhz CPU...

I am currently using Netgear FVS338 Routers / VPN Devices in 3 different locations and honestly I am not happy / impressed with them whatsoever.I have been doing some research and came across the Linksys RV042 and RV082 devices that caught my eye. The question is what is the VPN throughput of these devices?I have gone over the website, spec sheets and they only really say the throughput of the LAN Links and not the WAN Links. I currently have very reliable 20Mb+ Synchronous connections between all 3 sites and have not been able to get any good performance out of the Netgear devices and contacting their support is a joke. They can't tell you anything other than it should work or we will swap out the unit. Well if I have 3 of them that have been purchased at all different times I don't believe that they are all having the same issues. What these units 3DES VPN Throughput and will more than likely be purchasing 3 of which ever once suits our needs immediately.

I have a recurring issue with my e4200v1. My wired and wireless connections work fine, but I can't get to the administration website. I have https only set up, and after I get thru the 'certificate error' screen, I get an error that says web page is unavailable. Firfefox tells me that the connection was lost - error 101.I have tried wired and wireless, multiple computers, multiple browsers. I even turned the firewall off on one computer (or I think I did anyway). The only way I know how to fix it is by completely resetting then setting up the router all over again.

Upgraded from WRT610N to E4200. Since upgrading to latest firmware the wan just disappears both 5 and 2.5 Ghz bands. Happened with older firmware but not as often. Using it in briged mode. When this happens I can't even get to the management page with a lan connected pc. Have to do a hard reboot to get it to respond again. This is unacceptable for a router at this price point.

I have a TPLink WDR3600 wireless router wired to AT&T's cable modem.
The modem assigned this ip to the router: 192.168.1.60.
The router creates a network with these IPs: 192.168.0.x
Question: I want to be able to RDP into my laptop that's connected to the router (ip: 192.168.0.4). Before I had a router I would just open the firewall on the cable modem and expose the laptop but now it feels like there's two layers i need to go though: the cable modem and then the router.
How do those two work together? Should I put the router in the cable modem's DMZ Zone and then just work on the router? If I want to open just a port do i need to open it both on the cable modem and the router? How does the incoming connection know which device to go to? How does it know to go to 192.168.0.4 instead of 192.168.0.2 for example?
Here's the components:
1 - AT&T 2Wire cable modem. Internet comes in the house through this box. Assigns IPs like this: 192.168.1.xxx
2 - TP-Link WDR3600 gigabit/wireless router. Assigns IPs like this: 192.168.0.xxx
3. WD My Book Network Storage. Wired connection.
4. Desktop PC. Wired connection.
5. Laptop PC. Wireless.
6. 1 ipad, 2 iphones. Wireless.
Current setup:
1. internet cable goes into 2Wire Modem.Wireless on this device is OFF.
2. cable goes from LAN port on modem to WDR3600 router's internet port
3. cables go out from router to Desktop PC and Network Storage
4. all other devices are connected to the 5GHz wireless network created by the router.

I am connecting the E4200 to a Sonicwall TZ100. I want the TZ100 to assign IP addresses to devices that connect to the LAN via the E4200.
How do I have the E4200 act as a WAP only or not assign IP addresses and push that responsibility to the TZ100?
I'd still want the E4200 to have a SID key for LAN access security.

I have a 6 month old Cisco e-4200 router that is updated to the latest firmware, connected to a Motorola surfboard modem on Sudden-link in Midland, TX.
I previously used this exact same setup on Cox Cable in Wichita, KS with no problems. Upon setting it up down here I cannot get the router to pickup an IP address. I have Power-cycled everything multiple times, did a complete reset and re-installation of the router software and still no luck. The Sudden-link techs have no idea what is wrong. They said that the modems signal is strong and everything should be working.
Actually I did get it to work once for a couple of days, however when redoing the surround sound system I had to unhook the cable line and it quit working and I haven't gotten it to work again since. I have tried unhooking everything. Turning it all off. Waiting for 5+minutes, and then reconnecting in order: First the modem, then an ethernet cable to the computer which will usually work. But as soon as I unplug the cable from the computer and plug it into the router it stops working.

I just received by replacement e4200 v1. I updated the firmware to 1.0.03 build 14 and am up and running just fine. The specs say e4200 should be 300+450Mbps. I am using a software "inSSider 2.0" to view my wireless setup. I get 144(N) at 2.4GHz and 450(N) at 5.2GHz. Please note these are max bit rates and not connect speed or throughput rate. The "inSSider" software gives me the following:
2.4GHz - 1/2/5.5/6/7/9/11/12/14/18/22/124/28/29/36/43/44/48/54/58/65/72/86/116/130/144
5.2GHz - 6/9/12/15/18/24/30/36/45/48/54/60/90/120/135/150/180/240/270/300/360/405/450
I get this information by hovering on the max bit rate field on the row displaying my SSID. So is it correct to say that my e4200 is not designed to reach 300Mbps at 2.4GHz. There is an earlier discussion thread about connection maxing out 144. Please note I am not talking about connect speed or thru-put speed. Max design bit rates of dual band router labeled e4200.

Firmware 1.0.00 on my E4200 Hardware v1.0 provided a functioning 6to4 tunnel through Comcast's 6to4 facility. Windows and Linux clients on my local network discovered IPv6 addresses and were able to use them successfully.Unfortunately, after the upgrade to 1.0.03 this functionality was gone. I missed reading the ChangeLog, which said that the automatic tunneling feature was removed in 1.0.01. The now provided IPv6 functionality works much less well. First, automatic configuration (discovery of the 6to4 via IPv4 anycast) no longer works with Comcast's gateway. If I configure the tunnel manually, by specifying a 2002/16 prefix, I regain IPv6 connectivity, but only for Linux clients on my local network.
Windows 7 clients suffer from the problem that because the E4200 hands out ULA addresses, they end up preferring those ULA addresses when making global IPv6 connections in the IP 'source' field, which of course does not work. It's like putting your company mailbox code as the return address on a letter you send via US Mail. Other home routers, such as the AVM Fritz! (url,...) suffer from the same problem. However, they provide an option to turn off ULA at the router. Is it possible to turn off ULA for the E4200?

I have an E4200 and the Cisco VPN client on my home computer that I use to access a work network. The VPN client cannot connect unless I either (a) bypass the E4200 and connect directly to my cable modem or (b) disable the SPI Firewalls on the router. I have all the VPN passthroughs set to "enable" on the router, but still cannot connect. The VPN client is using IPSEC over TCP on port 10000.

I've been trying to get FTP Running up on my router for some time now.
I know my current WAN address and have setup a specified folder on my E4200 for the FTP partition. A username for myself has been created with login info and I have forwarded the port I have specified on my router's FTP configuration page.
I try to log into the server, but whenever I try to log into it, I keep getting a "incorrect login information" message back at me.
If I cancel out of that then I get an error message saying it can't find the specified folder and to check the address of the server.
I know the login information information is correct and I've tried changing the password to others of varying lengths.
I've also tried changing the port I'm running the FTP off of incase my ISP has blocked that port, nothing works.

I have a 6 year old wrt54g that is working fine but old. I want to upgrade and will go with the 3200 or 4200. I really don't need the extra features on the 4200 since everything I have is hardwired (directly to two laptops and to two switches in other parts of the house for tv and printer). I want wireless for times when we move a laptop but it wouldn't be all the time, and we won't (for now) use the media options. The difference in price between the 3200 and 4200 is less than $25 so costs is NOT a factor in deciding. So should I just purchase the 4200 since price is not a factor or go with 3200; I want the most stable of the two and will never need the extra wireless features in the 4200.
