View 5 Replies View RelatedI have realized that E4200 V1 I have, with 1.03 firmware, seems to be dying when I reboot it and it tries to load the USB HD I have connected to it. By die I mean the web server does not work anymore (http://192.168.1.1), and new computers can't connect to the router. I suspect it is due to the amount of files I have in the External Disk Drive -I used to have Media Server enabled, but I disabled it because this problem was happening, and I only left File Server enabled. Now since I moved many of my pictures to it, it seems even File Server is causing problems, and if neither one work for me, then this router does not justify its money, since that was the only reason I bought this E4200 hardware. These problems are solved in V2? Since it is still under warranty, I could try to exchange my V1 for a V2 version.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just bought an e4200 with firmware version 2.0.36 from Costco.I have set it up manually and have access to the internet for all of my wired and wireless devices.Unfortunately, I cannot access the USB storage via mounting a share, the media server or the FTP server. I have plugged in a USB storage device that is formatted with FAT32. The router detects it and allows me to create new shares in the Storage->Disk menu and Storage->Media Server menu - so I know it can read the device and see the folders. Strangely if I click "Scan All" in the Media Server, it finishes very quickly and never updates the "Last scanning time" field. There was a brief moment when the router showed up in the Network->Computer section of File Explorer, but I can't get it to show here again.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI just bought this router used and in working condition. I dl'd the install file from here and followed all the directions. When it gets to the plug router into wall portion, it just sits there and eventually says its hooked up wrong. However the wifi is already working (checked by logging into my kindle fire) as well as my second port which is hooked to my ps3. However my 1st port which is connected to the pc does nothing. I have swapped the cables with no luck. So I cant figure out why there is no communication between the router and my pc.

They both have the same network name (e.g. the wifi network is named 'apple', and when i connect through ethernet in my room the name is also 'apple') I need to have wifi in my room. So, if i get a router and connect it to the ethernet port in my room's wall, would that work? Is that all you have to do or is there some other stuff i should know about?also can i put a password on it? And also, will it carry the network traffic of the common room?(if two people are using the common room's wifi, will the wifi speed in my room be affected nd whatnot) i have a linksys router lying around at home (the blue one with the double antennas, everyones seen them, and the one in the common room is the same...wireless g)
View 7 Replies View Relatedif the mounting bracket for 3600 AP is the same as the 3500/1140/1040 mounting bracket? I'm suspecting it's not as you can get modules that fit onto the back of the 3600 APs.

View 1 Replies View Relatedthe internet is so poor I usually lose the signal, since it has to go through walls and a bunch of trees. My question is can I use the phone jacks in the wall to set up a second router or something to increase it. Or what is the best way to increase the power and strength. What do I need and how do I do it. My fathers router is under verizon vios. I plan on getting and xbox 360 with live capability and need good internet for that

View 4 Replies View RelatedWe have a campus with both office and industial areas with various propagation problems. Historically I have been installing and maintaining access points in the 1200 range, the latest being the 1242. All these have a similar antenna setup based on diversity pairs.Since Cisco seems to be dropping the old series any week now I have been looking at the 2602 as a replacement.I can find no good documentation on antenna selection and mounting suggestions for these. If I want a proper omni coverage pattern with dual band antennas, do I just set them to a H form assuming the unit is sitting on a wall?

Initially, I considered the mounting options from Oberon Inc. (p/n :1064-00), but given the difficulty by purchasing this product in my country have to consider other options..I must say that the decision to mount the access point to the ceiling like this:
Now I looking a version of the mount АP with flush-mount kit for tiled ceilings (AIR-AP-BRACKET-3=)..
it seams, that the mounting blade for the 1142 access point and the 2602 access point are identical.
We have ordered the new 2602 with internal antennas for deploying WLAN in a new building, but I never hold this accesspoint in my hands. We have a few mounting blades in spare from the 1142 accesspoint. The question is, can I prepare the mounting of the 2602 access point with the 1142 mounting blade?
I've got a number of 3502i's that I need to mount in a new classroom that does not have any ceiling (except the floor decking above). Ceiling is roughly 30-50' up. Contractors are going to run several 2" (or whatever we want) metal pipes from the ceiling down to a more reasonable level to mount the access points on and get below the hvac ducts/etc in the ceiling.
Problem is I can't find any bracket or mounting options for this! What are others using in this situation for mounting one of these access points onto a metal pipe such as this? I've checked Oberon Wireless, Terrawave and I don't see anything glancing through the product catalogs. Anyone mounting access points this way?
I have a recurring issue with my e4200v1. My wired and wireless connections work fine, but I can't get to the administration website. I have https only set up, and after I get thru the 'certificate error' screen, I get an error that says web page is unavailable. Firfefox tells me that the connection was lost - error 101.I have tried wired and wireless, multiple computers, multiple browsers. I even turned the firewall off on one computer (or I think I did anyway). The only way I know how to fix it is by completely resetting then setting up the router all over again.
View 2 Replies View RelatedUpgraded from WRT610N to E4200. Since upgrading to latest firmware the wan just disappears both 5 and 2.5 Ghz bands. Happened with older firmware but not as often. Using it in briged mode. When this happens I can't even get to the management page with a lan connected pc. Have to do a hard reboot to get it to respond again. This is unacceptable for a router at this price point.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am connecting the E4200 to a Sonicwall TZ100. I want the TZ100 to assign IP addresses to devices that connect to the LAN via the E4200.
How do I have the E4200 act as a WAP only or not assign IP addresses and push that responsibility to the TZ100?
I'd still want the E4200 to have a SID key for LAN access security.
I have a 6 month old Cisco e-4200 router that is updated to the latest firmware, connected to a Motorola surfboard modem on Sudden-link in Midland, TX.
I previously used this exact same setup on Cox Cable in Wichita, KS with no problems. Upon setting it up down here I cannot get the router to pickup an IP address. I have Power-cycled everything multiple times, did a complete reset and re-installation of the router software and still no luck. The Sudden-link techs have no idea what is wrong. They said that the modems signal is strong and everything should be working.
Actually I did get it to work once for a couple of days, however when redoing the surround sound system I had to unhook the cable line and it quit working and I haven't gotten it to work again since. I have tried unhooking everything. Turning it all off. Waiting for 5+minutes, and then reconnecting in order: First the modem, then an ethernet cable to the computer which will usually work. But as soon as I unplug the cable from the computer and plug it into the router it stops working.
I bought Linksys E4200, at a time that is the TOP of the line Cisco routers for Home use.I noticed a serious usage issue with it, I could not identify which are the wifi devices connected to choose for access restriction or parental controls, as the dialog box state only as "Network device", and software control by Linksys does not have any provision to use MAC ID or any other option "except " looking at the dialog box as "Network device".

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just received by replacement e4200 v1. I updated the firmware to 1.0.03 build 14 and am up and running just fine. The specs say e4200 should be 300+450Mbps. I am using a software "inSSider 2.0" to view my wireless setup. I get 144(N) at 2.4GHz and 450(N) at 5.2GHz. Please note these are max bit rates and not connect speed or throughput rate. The "inSSider" software gives me the following:
2.4GHz - 1/2/5.5/6/7/9/11/12/14/18/22/124/28/29/36/43/44/48/54/58/65/72/86/116/130/144
5.2GHz - 6/9/12/15/18/24/30/36/45/48/54/60/90/120/135/150/180/240/270/300/360/405/450
I get this information by hovering on the max bit rate field on the row displaying my SSID. So is it correct to say that my e4200 is not designed to reach 300Mbps at 2.4GHz. There is an earlier discussion thread about connection maxing out 144. Please note I am not talking about connect speed or thru-put speed. Max design bit rates of dual band router labeled e4200.
Just got a e4200. However I also have a cisco av power line adapter which worked fine. However when connecting to the 4200 it doesn't recognize the Internet. Have rebooted, reset switched ports etc. But it still doesn't work. It sees the network but not the Internet. Have tried everything ikon but no luck. Cannot connect my directive to the Internet. If I can't get it to work will have to run a 50 foot cable.
View 5 Replies View RelatedFirmware 1.0.00 on my E4200 Hardware v1.0 provided a functioning 6to4 tunnel through Comcast's 6to4 facility. Windows and Linux clients on my local network discovered IPv6 addresses and were able to use them successfully.Unfortunately, after the upgrade to 1.0.03 this functionality was gone. I missed reading the ChangeLog, which said that the automatic tunneling feature was removed in 1.0.01. The now provided IPv6 functionality works much less well. First, automatic configuration (discovery of the 6to4 via IPv4 anycast) no longer works with Comcast's gateway. If I configure the tunnel manually, by specifying a 2002/16 prefix, I regain IPv6 connectivity, but only for Linux clients on my local network.
Windows 7 clients suffer from the problem that because the E4200 hands out ULA addresses, they end up preferring those ULA addresses when making global IPv6 connections in the IP 'source' field, which of course does not work. It's like putting your company mailbox code as the return address on a letter you send via US Mail. Other home routers, such as the AVM Fritz! (url,...) suffer from the same problem. However, they provide an option to turn off ULA at the router. Is it possible to turn off ULA for the E4200?
I have a E4200 router v.01 and when i updated the latest firmware (due to security exploit) it seems that whenever i acess the router settings (192.168.1.1) it doesn't ask me nor to input the admin and the password anymore, using wifi or wired.. I want the usual proccess whenever i go to 192.168.1.1 it will ask me to input my admin and password to change my router settings..

The VPN client cannot connect unless I either (a) bypass the E4200 and connect directly to my cable modem or (b) disable the SPI Firewalls on the router. I have all the VPN passthroughs set to "enable" on the router, but still cannot connect. The VPN client is using IPSEC over TCP on port 10000.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to get FTP Running up on my router for some time now.
I know my current WAN address and have setup a specified folder on my E4200 for the FTP partition. A username for myself has been created with login info and I have forwarded the port I have specified on my router's FTP configuration page.
I try to log into the server, but whenever I try to log into it, I keep getting a "incorrect login information" message back at me.
If I cancel out of that then I get an error message saying it can't find the specified folder and to check the address of the server.
I know the login information information is correct and I've tried changing the password to others of varying lengths.
I've also tried changing the port I'm running the FTP off of incase my ISP has blocked that port, nothing works.
