Cisco Wireless :: Antenna Selection And Mounting For 2602

Feb 3, 2013

We have a campus with both office and industial areas with various propagation problems. Historically I have been installing and maintaining access points in the 1200 range, the latest being the 1242. All these have a similar antenna setup based on diversity pairs.Since Cisco seems to be dropping the old series any week now I have been looking at the 2602 as a replacement.I can find no good documentation on antenna selection and mounting suggestions for these. If I want a proper omni coverage pattern with dual band antennas, do I just set them to a H form assuming the unit is sitting on a wall?

Cisco Wireless :: Mounting Blade For 1142 AP Identical To 2602?

Apr 14, 2013

it seams, that the mounting blade for the 1142 access point and the 2602 access point are identical.

We have ordered the new 2602 with internal antennas for deploying WLAN in a new building, but I never hold this accesspoint in my hands. We have a few mounting blades in spare from the 1142 accesspoint. The question is, can I prepare the mounting of the 2602 access point with the 1142 mounting blade?

Cisco Wireless :: How To Get 3500e Antenna Selection

Jan 24, 2012

i want to install a 3500e. I have a hole in my wireless network where this AP will be a perfect fit. I do have a wireless controller running code 6.x, so I think I will need to upgrade to 7 which is not a big deal.

The problem I have is the antenna selection. Since the AP has MIMO multiple-inputs multiple-inputs I’m perplexed on the type of antenna to choose. Since the environment is a warehouse the Omni directional would be preferred - should I also add the dipole antenna for close proximity to the AP. Also, I noticed in the getting started guide the 3500e has 6 external connection points 3 for 2.4 and 3 for 5 GHz. The antenna documentation says to use dual-band antennas, but this contradicts what is shown in the getting started guide. So what antennas should I get to make the 3500e work in a warehouse environment.

Cisco Wireless :: AIR-ANT1728 Best Antenna Selection For High Ceilings

Feb 6, 2012

the best antenna to use in high-ceiling environments, as in 25 feet or higher.  He was in favor of using a high gain, omni, such as a the AIR-ANT1728.  I was against this form of antenna due to their increased horizontal radiation and decrease of vertical.  I was more in favor of an antenna similar to AIR-ANT24 30V-R.  I've seen successful deployments with both options, but curious what the community has to say on the matter.

Cisco :: Intel 6205 Wireless Chip - Antenna Selection For COW

Jan 3, 2012

We are ordering new COWs (Computer On Wheels) for the hospital and they will be using an Intel 6205 Wireless Chip which is a/b/g/n 2x2.  The two new floors these devices will be going on will be our first internal hospital entry into 802.11n which I force the clients to run in the 5ghz range for N.   Previous to this, all of my cows are G clients and use a 2.2dbi rubber duck for 2.4ghz.

I will be using 1142 AP's, if not 3502 and no I have not performed a survey yet as the floor is still in early construction, but equipment is required to be ordered now.  I can tell you that I will be surveying for a voice grade.  I suppose my confusion comes from what is the best antenna (obvious open ended question) for this card, being it has two connectors for the 2x2.  Again, typically I would use a 2.2 dbi rubber duck for either 2 GHz or dual band 2/5 GHz.  Is dual rubber ducks at 6inch spacing (half wavelength met on 2.4 GHz fall back) suffecient or are there other factors involved with the N.

Cisco Wireless :: 2602 AP In Stand-Alone Utilizing Both Bands?

May 12, 2013

We typically use the 2602 series AP in lightweight mode, however I have a scenario where we are going to be installing one with the stand-alone software.  I understand that we will not be able to utilze certain features that you get with the WLC such as RRM, rogue detection, and clean air.

We do want to utilze both the 2.4GHZ and 5GHZ bands.  In order to do this with the 2602 stand-alone AP, will we have to configure 2 separate SSID's?  I really do not want to do this to if I do not have to to minimize confusion for clients.

Cisco Wireless :: 2602 - What AP To Stock For Doing Site Surveys

Apr 3, 2013

Instead of stocking every known AP and every external connector, I would like to query which APs to stock for general site surveys....

I have 2 customers that will require surveys in the near future...one plans on using the 2602e AP, and the other a 3602e AP. I have read somewhere that the 1140 makes an excellent proxy for the 2602 and several other Cisco APs (as the RF characteristics are similar) so that I only have to stock that one AP to use for those site surveys-  but I haven't seen any recommendations about the 3600 series AP yet...

What AP to stock for doing Cisco site surveys? Maybe one or two models only?

Cisco Wireless :: 2602 Check Box Under Wlan For FlexConnect Local Authentication

Apr 4, 2013

I have several 2602 AP's that I want to operate in FlexConnect mode.  The WLC is at a central HQ and the Ap's are remote.  There are central radius servers at the HQ for the wlans.  At the remote lcoation, there is a local radius server we want to use for the primary radius server for these AP's.   This radius server has been added to the WLC.  I have setup a FlexConnect Group, designated the the primary and secondary servers, and then added the AP's to the group.  It does not look like radius requests are being sent to the local controller.

For this to work, do we have to check the box under the wlan for FlexConnect Local Auth?  Currently, we only have FlexConnect local switching selected.

Cisco Wireless :: 3502i Ceiling Pole Mounting Options?

I've got a number of 3502i's that I need to mount in a new classroom that does not have any ceiling (except the floor decking above).  Ceiling is roughly 30-50' up.  Contractors are going to run several 2" (or whatever we want) metal pipes from the ceiling down to a more reasonable level to mount the access points on and get below the hvac ducts/etc in the ceiling.

Problem is I can't find any bracket or mounting options for this!  What are others using in this situation for mounting one of these access points onto a metal pipe such as this?  I've checked Oberon Wireless, Terrawave and I don't see anything glancing through the product catalogs.  Anyone mounting access points this way?

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 Seems To Die When Mounting External Hard Drive

Jan 20, 2012

I have realized that E4200 V1 I have, with 1.03 firmware, seems to be dying when I reboot it and it tries to load the USB HD I have connected to it. By die I mean the web server does not work anymore (http://192.168.1.1), and new computers can't connect to the router. I suspect it is due to the amount of files I have in the External Disk Drive -I used to have Media Server enabled, but I disabled it because this problem was happening, and I only left File Server enabled. Now since I moved many of my pictures to it, it seems even File Server is causing problems, and if neither one work for me, then this router does not justify its money, since that was the only reason I bought this E4200 hardware. These problems are solved in V2? Since it is still under warranty, I could try to exchange my V1 for a V2 version.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 V2 - Cannot Access USB Storage Via Mounting Share

Cisco AAA/Identity/Nac :: AP 2602 / WLC 5508 ISE 1.1.2 - Missing Field To Name Endpoint

Apr 4, 2013

Environment :AP 2602, WLC 5508 V7.4, ISE 1.1.2, Prime Infras 1.2

For a specific SSID, we use MAC address as 1 of the conditions to authorize access only for the company-owned mobiles (smartphones and tablets), the other condition being, for the mobile, to present a valid AD user/password;this way, the so-called BYODs are rejected since this is the rule within this company ;The difficulty with this approach is the fact that there is no way in ISE Identities Endpoints nor Groups to associate a user-friendly name to the MAC address of the mobiles, which makes very tedious some actions such as a search in the ISE authentication Log based on the MAC address value itself;the question is just to know if it is planned to add a new field  in Identities Endpoints definition that would allow to associate a user-friendly name to a MAC address, for future ISE versions,

Cisco Wireless :: 1524SB Mesh Channel Selection?

Jun 3, 2013

We have a deployment with six 1524SB mesh APs. Two are used as RAPs and face east and west respectively with directional antennas and two MAPs on each side with omni antennas. The RAPs are within 20 feet of each other. I set the bridge group name as east or west depending on which side of the mesh the equipment is located but noticed the downlink channel is set to 56 on both RAPs. I don't remember setting the channel for the RAPs, but they aren't using the global DCA.Would best practice be to change the downlink to unique channels on the RAPs, enable DCA (if it will let me), or is a unique bridge group name sufficient enough?

Cisco Wireless :: 1552E - Setting Up Mac Filter / Drop Down Selection For Interface Name

Mar 12, 2013

We have a number of 1552e's deployed as RAP / MAPs, using a 5508 WLC. All those are working fine.I have a few requirements for an outdoor access point... not a RAP or MAP, but just a simple outdoor AP. I assume that if I use a 1552e for that requirement, I would place the mode in local, rather than in bridge mode, correct ? Also, a question on mac filtering.  When setting up the mac filter, there is a drop down selection for "interface name".  The radios seem to work fine with "none" selected, so I'm confused about what exactly that selection is doing.  Is it simply a reference lable, or does it actually have a purpose?

Cisco Switches :: Dual SG 300-10 Mounting And Cascading?

Oct 31, 2011

SG 300-10 user manual states to not mount the switch on either side (I'm assuming this means the right or left ends as you face the front) and that they can be mounted either face-up or face down or flat). The specs further say that a 5" space must be "around all sides" of the unit. Silly question is what does "all sides of the unit' really mean? (of course given you must mount is somewhere). Also, given the little feet supplied with the unit, it is implicit to me the bottom needs to be only about 1/32" from the horizontal surface it is placed on. If this is true, can this unit be mounted face down on a shelf such as the Leviton 47612-UBK (it's allowing the mounted units to have airflow between the unit and the cabinet back) and have a second SG 300-10 mounted in front of the first that is seperated from the first by either the dual feet or use separation spacers that will fill the available shelf space and maximize the distance between the units - all without degrading the inherent reliability of either?

Lastly, The two SG 300-10's are reaching the internet through a LINKSYS E4200 router. Is it better to have each SG 300-10 occupying its own dedicated port on the router OR to cascade one SG 300-10 to the other SG 300-10 then one of the LINKSYS E4200 router? If the answer is each occupying their own dedicated LINKSYS port, then would it be prudent to load one SG 300-10 with the most active ethernet lines to allow the other SG 300's port power management to shut it down?

RealTek 8187 / Manual Selection Of Wireless Access Point?

Apr 18, 2012

I have a RealTek 8187 USB wireless adapter on my desktop computer that has an associated utility that allows me to manually select which of several competing WAP's to connect to. But that is good only for that particular adapter. My laptop has a different make of adapter that does not have this capability and many of my friends and neighbors lack the capability also. I have a situation where when I turn on my desktop, it automatically connects to a certain WAP, presumably because it has the strongest signal. However, at certain times of the day, traffic or other unknown interference blocks internet access for varying periods of time. I can usually go to my RealTek utility and switch connections to another WAP that has somewhat less signal strength (for example from Channel 1 to Channel 9 -- all within the same Wi-Fi network). Almost always I can restore internet access by doing this.is there generic software available that allows manually selecting WAP channels regardless of the particular brand of wireless adapter being used. Or is there some setting in either Windows XP or Windows 7 that would allow selectively choosing to connect to one channel of a network rather than another even if the signal strength is less.

However, it seems when I do this, the moment I press "Save" the router gets disconnected from my computer (the wired connection) and the only way to get reconnected is to run the Cisco Connect software from the computer that's hard wired to the router.

Once I get back to that screen in the routers settings, and try it again, the same thing happens. If I change anything else under the routers settings, the connection stays connected, but only when I change the wireless security settings to disabled I see this problem.
