Linksys Wireless Router :: Run EA4500 As Wired Only Gigabit Router?

May 7, 2012

Is it possible to run the EA4500 as a Wired only Gigabit router? To do this do I just go into the settings and disable both the 2.4 and 5 channels or do I have to do something else?

Linksys Wired Router :: EA4500 - Wired Connections Have Long Ping Times

Sep 23, 2012

I purchased and set-up the EA4500 on Thursday.  Friday my ISP (Charter) was out and worked on connection for over 2 hours due to slowness issues.  Connected directly to modem I get normal ping times on whichever computer is connected.  When I get the computer connected by the router (hard wired) I get very long ping responses up to 900ms.  They are all over the place 30ms (I can live with that), up to the 900's.  I contacted Linksys support last night, who had me update to the cloud firmware and change MT U to 1300, have not noticed a difference.  I did end up doing a hard reset on the router last night after I lost tech support.  We were disconnected with router rebooted, and I didn't have the patience to connect again last night.

It was so slow on my work computer, a pint to yahoo timed out.  The computers connecting to router are

XP SP3 (mine)
Win 7 Home (IPV6 turned off)
Work laptop that uses VPN and VOIP

Linksys Wireless Router :: Slow Wired Access With EA4500

Jun 28, 2012

I upgraded from a E2000 to a EA4500 today and I am experiencing slow wired WAN speeds. On my E2000 I get approximately 60Mbps down and approximately 2Mbps up, and when switching over to the EA4500, I can only manage about 20Mbps down and about 2Mbps up. I can switch back and forth between routers and replicate the results every time

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA4500 - Unable To See Wired Clients

Jun 9, 2012

Very strange problem with an EA4500 running 2.0.37.131047.  Set it up in no time with a Mixed network on WPA2 Personal, Internet's fine, but I can't see any of my wired clients.  They don't ping at all.  Even stranger, if I plug into another wired switch port with my laptop, I STILL can't ping the other clients.  One is a NAS and one is a network printer so there are no firewalls involved.  I power cycled the printer but in vain.  I've already reset to factory defaults once, but that didn't work.  I'm thinking I'll need to return it.

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA4500 No Devices Other Than Hard Wired Computer

Sep 4, 2012

I just now installed a new EA4500 Router. It installed itself automatically without a problem, by running the setup CD. No devices other than my hard wired computer and modem are connected yet.

When I went into Start > Cisco Connect to look around and check it's version, etc., I immediately got a "There's an important update for your router" notice.  My concern is not wanting to install The Cloud at this time (although I wouldn't rule it out later). There has not been a trace of it so far.

I currently have  Firmware Version:  2.0.36.126507  and  Software Version:  1.4.12100.0. What this Important Update may be? Is it the "dreaded" Cloud?  I'd rather avoid the whole rolling back to pre-Cloud issue for now, if possible.

Linksys Wired Router :: Unsupported Gigabit Lan Card For E4200?

Sep 10, 2011

I'm currently using onboard lan card of P6X58D Premium. However in the Cisco web setup page or even in my Windows 7, it shows only 100Mbps connection. I tried to force to 1000Mbps but it failed to get an IP. I did a google and found that may be the router doesn't do well with Intel card, but I use another onboard lan card with Nivida chip+AMD CPU, it's still only have 100Mbps. What can I do to have a 1000Mbps connection?

Linksys Wired Router :: RV042G Dual Gigabit WAN VPN Tunnel?

Jan 30, 2013

Is it possible to configure the RV042G so that one WAN port is connected to an ISP with a static IP and the other to an ISP with a dynamic IP.   Then, I would like to setup a VPN tunnel and use the static IP for that and have all the other internet traffic go through the dynamic IP.

I know I could set it up with the static IP as the primary and the dynamic as the backup.  Then, if I lost connectivity on the static IP, I would still have internet access, only the VPN tunnel would be down.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 Replacing Gigabit FIOS Router?

Feb 3, 2013

I have that red gigabit router with the 150/65 service.  It connects via ethernet for internet and has a coax to transmit the guide data etc.So my idea was to just leave the Verizon router connected and on (with wi-fi off) so it could do the TV stuff and just plug my router into the ethernet wall port the Verizon guy installed. Not so easy of course, my E4200 will not recognize the ethernet from my ONT (I think that's what the device they put in my basement is called) and the internet doesn't work.  I have factory reset the router. The reason I am doing all this is because the wireless range of the e4200 at 2.4ghz is near unmatched and given my house, the actiontech cannot reach my room.

Slow Wired Connection On Netgear N600 WNDR3700v1 Dual Band Gigabit Router?

Aug 6, 2012

I have a Netgear N600 WNDR3700v1 Dual Band Gigabit router and am having a problem with the wired connection with my PC. Everything wireless in the house works fine. In fact, I also have a Direct TV box hooked up for on demand and a sling box hooked up (both wired) and they work find. It's just my PC that is having issues. If I bypass the router and hook straight into the modem, it runs fine also so I have something going on between the router and this PC. I updated the NIC driver and this did not work. Before the update in the device manager, it said it was a NIVIDA nForce Network Controller (if I remember right) and now it says NIVIDA nForce 10/100 Mpbs Ethernet. It was suggested that I change my speed and duplex to match the router after I update but I am unsure what to change it to.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 Gigabit Ports Not Working?

Feb 17, 2011

I just upgraded to an E4200 from a D-Link DIR-655.  I cannot seem to get my desktop to connect to the E4200 at 1 GBS.  My adapter is set to "auto negotiate" but will only connect at 100 MBS.  If I try forcing the adapter setting to 1 GBS, it never connects.  I can swap out my E4200 with the DIR-655 and it will connect at 1 GBS just fine.  I am using a CAT 5E cable.  Is there something I'm missing here or is the E4200 just more finicky than the the DIR-655?

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT320N Has Gigabit Network Backwards

What I mean is the computers that are gigabit ready and are using cat6 cables are showing green icons on the Linksys WRT320N router and my network switch, which is only 10/100 ready and uses a cat5e cable to connect to the router, shows a blue icon indicating it is connected at gigabit speeds. Is the manual incorrect and green icons really mean gigabit speeds?

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT320N Connecting Two Gigabit Routers?

May 4, 2012

I have what should be simple.  Home network on cable.  WRT320N is main router cabled to desktop with GB card.  It is hard-wired to a Netgear WNR3500L (also gigabit).  That router is hard-wired to a desktop with GB card.  For testing I connected a second machine hard-wired to the WRT320N with a 10/100 card.  All machines recognized cards properly at correct speed.  I ran LAN Speed Test between machines.  Speeds were comparable between machines regardless of cards.  GB -> GB was mid-30's write, mid-80's read with GB -> 10/100 a couple of ticks slower but not significantly.  The LED's on both routers will show different color if GB connection and both showed GB for the desktop connection but not the interconnect between the routers.  The routers are connected at about 100' with CAT5E and straight-through.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT320N Used As Simple Gigabit Switch?

Dec 4, 2009

I've been using WRT320N few days now and I am happy with it so far! It's not overheated as many people reported and performance is also great (wifi as well as gigabit ports). I tested all functions (NAT, Advanced Wireless Settings, Port Forwarding, Access Restrictions...) - all working great, but I am little stuck on the easiest one - configure it temporarily as regular gigabit switch with an IP address: I put my WAN cable and LAN cables in the 1-4 ethernet ports. NAT, DHCP and Firewall are disabled in the router. I have DHCP server in my network that is assigning IP addresses based on MAC address. In "Setup" > "Basic Setup" > "Router IP" I would like to set up automatic configuration - DHCP, but it is not possible, so I just type the same IP address that It should get from the DHCP server (in this case 10.109.249.42). Does all 1-4 ethernet ports have the same MAC address (in this case 00:25:9C:4D:16:86)? Everything is working fine, my computer's IP addresses are succesfully assigned (as well as wifi devices) from DHCP server in my network, but I feel like WRT320N's address is not assigned - the problem is I can't connect to router's administration under http://10.109.249.42. There is no IP restrictions for remote management.

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA4500 Won't Obtain IP From ISP

May 12, 2012

My new EA4500 (fw ver 2.0.36) won't obtain an IP from a Brighthouse TM502G cable modem.  The EA4500 replaced a functioning WRT54G which would obtain an IP from the ISP.  I've tried upgrading firmware and have used both straight-through and crossover cables between the EA4500 & TM502G to no avail.  The EA4500 would issue IPs to it's clients, but not obtain one from it's TM502G.  At the moment, all 3 are daisy-chained together with the old WRT54G in the middle in order to make the EA4500 work.  Both WiFi and LAN ports function in this configuration.

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA4500 Won't Allow Wake On WAN

May 6, 2012

I'm hoping to get this router to allow WOL (actually wake on WAN) but it seems to be blocking the necessary broadcast magic packet even though the settings appear correct. It's not critical, but the reason is this: I'd like to shut down the home PC, but when necessary be able to start it up and use a VPN to access any info I need remotely.

From within the LAN, I can verity that WOL works. I have NIC and PCI WOL enabled in the BIOS. The NIC (a Marvel Yukon Gigabit) has WOL enabled as well as "allow this device to wake.." using magic packets under power management. The target machine's local IP is reserved through the EA4500 DHCP Reservation table. Just for troubleshooting, I opened port 9 in windows firewall. More importantly, I have ports 7-9 forwarded to my target LAN address. Single port forwarding... it just has been less reliable (?). I'm using a mask of 255.255.255.128 in order to enable broadcasting on .127 at some point as it seems it must be necessary. Broadcasting on .255 is not possible, despite some workarounds I found on the web. EA4500 firmware is the latest, 2.0.37. I have turned off the multicast filter and the anonymous internet filters under the security tab.

So, with these settings, I can WOL from inside the network no problem either targeting the LAN address, or by using a dyndns address. So far so good. With these same settings, I can go to WAN using Depicus or the Cloud Connect Pro app over 4G on an iPad. With all these same settings, WOLsniffer confirms the magic packet still getting through over WAN (obviously using the dyndns address). Even better, I can shutdown the target PC and STILL wake it up within a few minutes from WAN. Let me restate that! Wake up over WAN works, but only for the first few minutes after a shutdown.

However, if I wait 20 minutes or so, WOL stops working. If I change the port forwarding to .127, not only does it not work, but WOLsniffer will fail to see the magic packet. My conclusion is that the ARP table is getting purged, which is undertandable, and so the target LAN address isn't in memory. However, frustratingly the EA4500 will not broadcast no matter what settings you use. This limitation is undocumented, and counterintuitive since the software allows you to disable multicast filtering and does not notify you of an error when forwarding to xxx.xxx.xxx.127 with a 255.255.255.128 mask.
