I have tried to upgrade the firmware to the latest greatest but keep getting the "Incorrect image file" error. I bought two of the V1 units and had no trouble with one of them but the other is frustrating me. I have reset it and even tried a tftp upgrade of the firmware but still get "Incorrect image file" even in tftp.
I was prompted by Cisco Connect to upgrade the router software. During this process it came back and said the update failed. At this time the network connection dropped. The power light is now flashing on the device.
My Linksys WRT54G router has been dropping out lately and I've been recommended to update its firmware as it is very out-of-date. Well, everytime I try to upgrade the firmware to it, I get an error message that says "the connection to the server was reset while the page was loading." I'm trying to upgrade the firmware through the router's site 192.168.1.1 under the adminstration tab
I have a wrt54g (8.1) that was acting a little funny so did some googling and followed the instructions to install new firmware. First the installation failed, double checked to make sure I downloaded the correct file (FW_WRT54G_8.1.09.02_US_20071227.bin), did a reset and power cycle. Checked the information again and everything on the router setup completely disappeared.
I ran the firmware upgrade and hit the reset button for 30 seconds and everything went well until I went to restore my personal settings. When I went to the router page it asked for a user name and password but the old user name and password don't work so I am locked out and can't get to the restore page.
I'm attempting to upgrade to firmware 5.00.38 for my WRT54G-TM router, but it keeps telling me "upgrade failed" after like 3-4 seconds of trying. It says I currently have firmware: DD-WRT v24-sp2 (06/13/09) mega - build 12288. I've tried restetting to factory defaults before upgrading
I tried to upgrade firmware (I entered my model number WRT54G and hardware version 2 into Cisco menu and downloded the upgrade file they provided. My version was v2.02.7, downloded file FW_WRT54Gv4_4.21.5.000_20120220.bin . After I run the upgrade it said upgrade failed. After that I can't connect to internet and can't access the router. I tried to reset it and unplug it- no luck. From my PC control panel I see local area connections status connected, but as I said, it does not connect to Internet.
I'm currently trying to upgrade my linksys WRT54G v1.1 router using the WRT54G-EU_fw,0 file, however when I press upgrade it comes up with a message saying "Incorrect Image File!". The current firmware version is v1.42.2 Is there any way to fix this so I can upgrade it?
I have a problem with my WRT54G V8 router.I download a wrong Firmware and upgrade it.After this my router never work again. The PC can't get IP from the router.I tried a lot of time to access to the web admin 192.168.1.1 and other IP and nothing happen.I made a lot of reset cycles, with the procedures 30/30/30 or other with the reset button in combination with the power cord.
Exist any other possibility to recover my router. Can I open and touch other button inside the board or something like this?
-One WRT54G ver. 6, Firmware Version v1.028 -One WRT54G ver. 6, Firmware Version v2.x
With the WRT54G ver. 6, Firmware Version v1.028.When I ran the android app WiFi Analyzer, I get mixed results. On my Samsung Galaxy S3, I saw my signal on Channel 2, and others around me (two on Channel 6 and two on Channel 11).On my ASUS Transformer Prime TFT201 I see the same signals, but my router signal bounces continously between the baseline (-100dBm?) and about -35dBm.
Plugged in the WRT54G ver. 2, Firmware Version v2.x Channel 8.Hooked it up and got good steady signal strength. It Had 'WPA - Shared Key' but did not have the 'WPA - Personal' that was on the ver. 6. So, I had to go and screw things up. I've upgraded this to Firmware Version: v4.21.5 and guess what? I now have 'WPA - Personal'. I also have a signal is bouncing on BOTH units.
On my ASUS, I can see both routers. The ver. 2 AND the ver. 6 are bouncing between baseline and -35dBm, in unison. Apprently something in the ASUS does not like the later Firmwares. On my Samsung I can see the two signals - the ver. 2 on Channel 8 is stable as a rock and the ver. 6 on Channel 2 is also bouncing, but at a much slower rate! Running Speedtest.net a PC hardwired to the ver. 2 - I get 5.34 Mb/s Download and 0.47 Mb/s upload (yeah, my Internet sucks!) Running Speedtest.net through the ASUS/WiFi to the ver. 2 - I get 2.43 Mb/s Down and 0.65 Mb/s Up.Running Speedtest.net through the Samsung/WiFi to the ver. 2 - I get 5.07 Mb/s Down and 1.07 Mb/s Up.
I was in the process of upgrading the firmware on my Linksys WRT54G router when a connection interruption occurred. Now, the router will not boot up and I cannot communicate with it.Is there a way to reset the firmware?
i have a linksys wrt54g ver6 router. i want to upgrade the firmware. so i went to dd-wrt.com typed in my router. then i found it on there list, selected it and upon reviewing it, it sucked ram 8mb flash 2mb. looking through the linksys versions, ver2 was the best one ram 32mb flash 8mb. so can i use ver2 firware on my ver6 router?
I recently updated my WRT54G V3 to frimware 4.21.5 and now get regular wireless connection issues. The wired connection never has any problem (can connect to the router and the internet), but none of the wireless devices can see either.
The problem happens every couple of days, and cycling the power seems to be the only fix. When the problem does occur, the wireless devices don't even see the broadcasted SSID. But cycling the WRT54G's power fixes that.
I've gotten a few suggestions to do a "30-30-30" reset, but can't find exactly what that entails.
Tried upgrading my firmware to 4.0.2.08-tm and now I cannot log in via the web interface. The router boots and gets out to the internet. It still allows incoming vpn connections. The login screen displays and will display an error message if I use incorrect credentials, but if I log in properly and am directed to the routers web config homepage at "192.168.1.1/default.htm", I get a 404 error message. Telnet does not work either (not sure if it's on, never used it before) 404 Not FoundThe requested server-side-includes filename, /usr/local/EasyAccess/www/htdocs/default.htm, does not seem to exist. As if the web pages after the login screen got removed or corrupted after the update.
SN is NKS10403247
I realize there is a newer version. Attempted the upgrade incrementally since I could not find documentation specifiying if that was required or not.
I've tried to upgrade firmware through chrome, but chrome abruptly shut down during upgrade.Since that, I have not even loggin set-up menu which should be shown up putting 192.168.0.1 to make it back. Amber light is just blinking on Power lamp.
I was just online when all of a sudden i lost connection. I have a WRT54G V8 and did a quick little browse and found out it could be corrupted firmware. When i download the firmware it wants to download as a .bin file and open VLC Media player!? How do i change this or what do I need to open it with?
I go to the support page for the WRT54G routers. I set the version number to version 2 and there is no firmware file to download. For every other version there is a firmware file to download but not for version 2. Where can I get the latest firmware for my router.
This seems to be an epidemic issue with LinkSys routers (with me myself running in the third such issue). This time, I would require the original firmware of the WRT54 ver. 4 series. Download links in older threads have 404d already.
I was playing with the router/gateway settings on my WRT54G v3.1 router.... and I managed to hose it. I tried power cycling/ resetting it will not route my traffic through anymore...although i can still get to the setup menu.I am trying to download the firmware to flash it but.
A) the site says that for this v3.1 router I need to use the ancient firmware 4.21.1 and
B) the link to the firmware does not work !!! it downloads an empty zip file url...
linksys support, if you are listening, please restore the link to the firmware so I can try and fix my router.
In hopes of fixing some "flaky" connection issues with my WRT54G V2 Wireless Router, I downloaded and applied the new firmware version released on 08/18/2011, Ver.4.21.4 for my Version 2 Router. I downloaded, went through the application process using the router's firmware update process, it said it was successful and then the router restarted and didn't work. Couldn't ping the address, constant flashing Power light, no response at all from router. Tried again, same result. Performed hard reset, same result. Tried a few other recovery techniques found on the web with no success. Finally I did the process found here [URL] This reset the router and I re-uploaded this same 2011 version. Router still broken. I ran through the process again after downloading an older version of the firmware, specifically version V3.1_4.00.7, the upload ran, and the router worked again! This was proof to me that the newest version completely BRICKED my router. I'm so relieved I was able to reset the router and manually recover, but most will never try this. I recommend Cisco retest this ASAP and pull the new release for the V2 router until they get this resolved!
I upgraded my WRT54G ver. 2 with the latest linksys firmware update (4.30.5). My previous firmware was 2. something. After the process i lost internet connection and i can't no longer access my router. I tried to reset the router to factory defaults by pressing the reset button for 10 seconds, but nothing happened. I also turned everything off and on again, but still nothing happened.

Is there a way to restrict wireless access to my router from wireless pc's in my home. Two grandsons are off from school now, and are playing online games to the wee hours of the morning. Can I do something to have the routher shut off their connection at a certain time? Is that possible. If I have to go back to dd-wrt to do that, fine. I have lynksis wrt54g with their 4.2.1 firmware.
