View 1 RepliesAlright, the computer I had cisco connect on crashed. I got a new computer and I'm trying to install Cisco connect using the downloaded version and I can't install it because it requests the password of the router, which i do not know. This is because I've lost the CD copy of Cisco connect. I've tried resetting the router itself by pressing the red reset button

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy connection to Davis Instruments' WeatherLink had been working for many weeks, when my old WRT54G quite renewing DHCP leases. I've replaced it with a new E2000. All seems well. The Wifi network is working and my server resources to the outside are working. But the blasted WeatherLink software complains that it can't connect to to the interface box. This is a wired connection. The software finds the MAC address of the interface box and the assigned IP address, but "testing" the connection fails. I can ping the IP address of the interface box. The Davis people insist this is an issue with the router. The WeatherLink software uses a weird port: 22222 I didn't know there were ports with 5 digits. I've tried port forwarding this to the IP of the computer, but nothing changes. I think if I can ping the IP of the interface from the computer, communication should work.

I have the latest software version for the Cisco software.I have noticed that Cisco sets up the same password to access the router setup page as the wireless password..Anyone that connects to the main SSID will be able to connect to the setup page at 192.168.1.1...I know that I can change the password in the linksys setup page to whatever I want, but then when I open the Cisco software, it wants me to change the password to match what the administrator password is.Don't they realize that a wireless password is different than the Administrator password to access the router settings?

I have also tried to reset the router without any luck. I know it its not the modem that is causing the problem because I'm wired to it now.On the E2000 every light is blinking as it should be (hence the FAQ) so it indicates that there might be a problem with the connection between the router and the computer (tested on other computers too without success).
View 9 Replies View RelatedRecovering the password for a protected network. It can be difficult sometimes to recover a password for a home wireless network or a small to large business. There are several ways to recover such sensitive data and I would trust you to recover in all honesty for the sake and security of the business you work for or even your home network. So how do I recover the key if I don't know the gateway login to my router? the end user will likely default their router to recover the sensitive data but after defaulting they then realize that the SSID key has now been wiped out. The problem now is that all other trusted devices will be disconnected and the set up for the router; well that's just common sense, you would need to set up your static all over again (if applies) and your security as well. Use other devices in your house, trusted devices that have already been able to connect. Windows 7 is the protagonist in this role. Windows 7 enables the use of wireless profiles to be saved for faster connections to be made within the broadcasted range of the SSID. Btw SSID is the network name you see appear in your Wireless Manager. I.e.Bat_Cave; Starbucks; Barnes & Noble Wifi etc.
TIP #!
SSID - service set identification; two categories apply to SSID
SSID - basic service set identification
This applies to ad hoc wireless networks that do not have access points
SSID - extended service set identification
An infrastructure wireless network that has an access point; however this term can be used either SSID or eSSID. You will see eSSID with Point to Point; backhauls, switches, subscriber modules or comtrols; there are tons others but I won't stress other device types. Rarely will you connect to an AP, likely the type of service you receive depends on what you connect to, radio equipment like Canopy, Ubiquiti and Motorola are technologies you will see that are wireless based. What you are seeing is coming from a smaller device within your home or office network. If you use a Verizon air card, it's likely connecting to a nearby AP or a nearby radio which is pointing to an AP.Back to reality now, in order to locate profiles used in Windows 7 we head to the location by two categories of view in the control panel:
Small Icons Start > Control Panel > Network and Sharing > Manage Wireless Networks (This can be found in the left navigation within the vertical blue strip.)
Category Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing > Manage Wireless Networks (This can be found in the left navigation within the vertical blue strip.)
What you will see here may be a small list or a large list of every network you have connected to since you purchased the notebook. Now certificate trusted networks will appear here however they may not contain a key. The company I work for requires certificate of authentication and then the use of password linked to Active Directory as long as my computer is on the domain controller. Each wireless profile you see appear here has its own configuration and each configuration is bound to the SSID or network name. It's like the title of a book with its own story. You can have two (2) books with the same name but a different story. When I say different story, I am referring to a different encryption standard; cipher and wireless password. You can see below I have two (2) wireless networks with the same name but notice the different settings.
Bat_Cave
Standard: WPA2 Personal
Cipher: TKIP
Key: -pass51-
Bat_Cave
Standard: WPA Personal
Cipher: AES
Key: #Off5id35!
The reason I am showing you two (2) configurations is because when you are recovering a key for a network, you want to make sure the configuration is the same or else the door will always be locked until you correct your errors. The network name we have is Bat_Cave and we need to recover the key for the SSID that has a Cipher of TKIP.Right click the profile name and click properties. This will allow you to change SSID configuration on the notebook ONLY; in case changes have been made to the router or a buddy changed his encryption standard on his home network. Yeah it's easy enough just to remove the profile and reconnect; but that would be too easy, you wouldn't learn anything.Once you are in the properties of the wireless profile, click the [Security Tab] up top and you will see: encryption standard, cipher and the key; and as a plus, a check box to show you what the key is. Show the hidden contents and copy or write down the key.By using other trusted device on your network or business, you can utilize the resources that you have, to recover a password on your home or business network so long you have the permission from your superior and a good heart for positive intent.
I would like to set the router's dns entries but I don't see how to do that. Basic setup page has DNS setep for the DHCP scope but I don't want to push dns to my pc's. What I am looking to do is to use an alternate dns to what my service provder pushes and still have the abliity to route on my internal network.

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy internet cut out last week and after calling my ISP I found out it was in fact my router that was causing the problem (regular connection to PPOE works fine). I've only had my E2000 about 2-3 months and have not had any problems with it. I've restarted the router, done a factory reset, upgraded the firmware, renewed the IP and still I cannot get any connectivity. I can access the router UI fine and I get a response from pinging it and also I have tried replacing the cables but that didn't fix the problem either.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have an E2000 that I was given as a gift. I would like to use at it my office for a switch at my cubicle where I can connect 2-3 computers simultaneously. View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using E2000 currently and meet a wireless connection problem. The speed can up to 300M bps. When I confiured the E2000 to band auto (20-40mhz) and my wireless network card to work at also auto (20-40) mode, it always down to 144M speed when connection.
If I changed some settings in E2000's wireless configuration, in the status sheet I can see it works at 40MHZ. But after a while,(5-10 mins) it automaticly down to 20MHZ and my labtop connect only got a 144M speed.
how can I deal with that to make it always keep at 300M connection? Note the previous router I used to connect to my lattop can always keep that speed.
How do I use Cisco Connect to set up E2000 as a switch and set up wireless connection, when I am using E3000 as my main router that attaches to the modem?. When I use Cisco Connect I seem to only be able to address the E3000 settings through Cisco Connect..

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Linksys E2000.
It worked fine until one day, without any change at all, it simply stoped working. I mean, I can still connect through my wifi laptop connection (it shows connected to my router and says that I have an excelent signal). But, I can't reach the internet. But, If I unplug the internet cable, and plug it in my laptop, the connection works fine. A friend told me that this could be caused intentionally by the internet provider, that they would block my signal to avoid me using a wireless router, trying to force consumers to sign their own wireless service. Thus, by this friend advice, I've cloned my laptop's MAC address to the router. It didn't work either.
