I have a wrt54g v2.2 connected to a DSL moden supplied and installed by my isp, The router is only used to be a wireless access point and no wired connections apart form the link to the modem.

The Status on the 54g does not show an IP address from the WAN(cable modem)If I connect the cable modem directly to the computer(wired) I can get online no problems. I can also access the 54g through 192.168.1.1. (wired)But if I connect the Cable modem to the 54g....no Internet This was my bootup.
1. Unplugged both cable and router.
2. Plug in cable wait for solid lights
3. plug in router wait for lights
4. plug in computer...connection established to router.... No Internet
Much of the time my wireless printer is offline relative to computers on my LAN because the IP Address has been changed to some value different than what the computer thinks it should be. So I have to figure out what the IP Address is of the printer then modify the printer port on the PC to point to the correct address. If this only happened rarely or if I could easily remember the steps I have to take to remedy the situation, I guess this would not be such a big deal. But it happens a lot and I'm old and alzheimery. So my question is: how do I get the router to assign the same IP Address to the printer all of the time?

With all the kids devices, when I reset the router, getting all the devices online is a challage. Some end up with duplicate IP address causing conflicts. I have no problem using my WII, PSP, or computer to go online but my ps3 cannot connect to the internet.url...The errors I might sometimes get is "failed to obtain IP adress" and most of the time I get something with unable to connect to internet server when I am able to get the IP address
I was thinking maybe I shold reset my router to default settings but I'm not sure what's the way to do that or update the router? This problem also has been happening for a week now. In the previous weeks I could easily connect to the internet with no problems and all of a sudden I cannot connect anymore and this has happened a few times already in the past where I am unable to connect to the internet with my ps3 for a few days to a week.

My current set up runs perfectly but the problem is, I have other devices in my home that require a WEP security key. My Airport Extreme is running on WPA but I don't want to lower it's security to WEP just for those devices. What I'm trying to do is create another separate network which has a WEP security key (Linksys WRT54G). So ultimately, I would like to set up two networks, one is the Airport Extreme and the other Linksys, which both run under the same WAN address provided by Time Warner Cable.

I have checked and I have the correct IP address of 192.168.1.1. I can ping the router and everything hooked up to the router is now working correctly. I was having problem with the router losing the internet ip address and having to turn everything off and then back on to connect to the internet. I reset the router and it seems to have corrected that problem but I now can not pull up the router's ip address. I have tried in Internet Explorer and Firefox. I have tried typing thebefore the ip address but it will not pull up. I have read countless posts trying to trouble shoot and figure out what's wrong with it and nothing will work.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an Edimax BR-6228nS and I set it up as an access point a while ago. I also changed a lot of settings on there and even turned off the DHCP. I need to use it as a router now so I am trying to get into the configure page. After resetting the router, the IP address is still the not the default one. I still can't access it. When I type in ipconfig in the command prompt all it shows is the ip address that connects to my modem. This is what it shows when i type in ipconfig /all. 192.168.15.3 only directs me to my modem's set up page. This is confusing me, is the router not being recognized?

I'm looking to upgrade my WRT54G as I have had NO luck in getting my Galaxy Tab to connect through it so far (can connect and get an IP address but can't get out to the web) and have had intermittent problems with my Blu-ray lately. I am looking for something with the best affordable range, live 3 floors down from the current one and get about 3/4 signal strength so there's not much interference it seems. I watch a lot of online content through Hulu, Netflix, and LMB games and share with 2 other people.I am looking at the E series, probably the E1200, 1500 or 1550 as they seem to meet my needs. Any users have any advice about the ease of install and use of either of these? Or would it be better to get a gateway as we are considering going from DSL to U-verse service, twice the speed for $2/month more
View 6 Replies View Relatedwe were happily getting along with our RCN cable Motorola modem and DLink wireless 655 until the last couple of weeks. The internet would intermittently not be available, without warning. First couple of times we power cycled the modem and router, and it worked, but then stopped being available altogether. I got some support from RCN, the cable provider (they own the modem and it's old, so naturally that was my first thought). I now have a new modem and the situation is exactly the same. The error message that I get is that the IP address for the network cannot be found.
I got internet access by bypassing the router, connecting the modem directly to my (Windows XP) PC, releasing and renewing the IP address, and power cycling the modem. However, the internet still intermittently shuts down, and of course turning off the computer necessitates the whole procedure again. And now we have no wireless. Should we assume it's the router, and a new one would solve our problem? Of do we just need to reset the IP address of the router?

That old router is a knock-off,no-name router brand called "Gigafast" and the model number is WF19-CAPR. There are also variants to that router name as well.The router that I currently have is a Linksys WRT54G wireless-G router. I'm planning to upgrade the wireless router in favor of Wireless-N in the near future.I want to know how can I use that particular Gigafast router as a switch and I want to link that router up to my WRT54G router. The IP address for the WRT54G router is 192.168.1.1, while the Gigafast router is 192.168.1.254. I may know by now that I have to disable DHCP on the gigafast router and I have to change an IP address to something that is "not in range" with the WRT54G router, am I right?I want to expand the number of ports, so I can connect with future devices such as a VoIP ATA adapter, a laptop and possibly an entertainment box (i.e. Apple TV or Boxee box)

PC is running Windows/XP sp3 with all updates installed. It has no wireless adapter.WRT54G model number sticker shows ver.2. I don't think the firmware has ever been upgraded.This used to work. What has changed? The laptop that used to connect wireless is dead. I now have a 2nd PC that sits on the same table as the old PC. It has no wireless adapter at this point, but eventually either it, or the old computer, will be getting its internet connection wireless-ly, as the computers will be physically in separate rooms. I can't see how these changes would affect the operation of the router.
I have a WRT54G router that's worked for a very long time. I had WEP security set up and it worked fine until recently. About a week ago my three year old son managed to reset the router (I'm still not sure how). When I go onto the web-based setup page I am unable to change the wireless security setting. I select an option from the drop down menu but then the page reloads and nothing has changed.
