Linksys Wireless Router :: E2000 WAN IP Address Cannot Be Same Subnet As Guest Network IP Address
Jul 16, 2011
I switched from Time Capsule with AirPort to E2000 and have a problem with configuration.I use the same IPs as in AirPort and E2000 gives me an error:"The WAN IP address cannot be the same subnet as the Guest Network IP address" and I can't save configuration.But in my opinion they are different.I use "Static IP" option and I have IPs from my ISP: [code] So WAN IP is different subnet as LAN and I don't know what to do now. It worked with these settings in AirPort and here I can't proceed.

I tried to extend the Range of the Guest WLAN of the E2000 with several different Access Points vom TP-Link. (Last try: TL-WA901D) The Access Point recognises the WLAN and sometimes it has a connection for a short time. But then the whole WLAN is breaking down, sometimes the Router E200 hangs up, also with the LAN connections. The E200 is connected to a sky-DSL Router and works fine when no additional access point is connected. In the web-Interface of the E2000 I cant setup any specific Guest-WLAN settings.

E2000 has the guest account feature. Not sure if all guests shares the same login credentials. I would like to have guests account use seperate logins. Is this feature available? Another thing, I read the manual and it is indicated that only up to 10 maximum guest acccounts is allowed. I am looking for more than 10 - kinda like a hotspot software.
I've been looking everywhere. I've seen hotspot system, ddwrt, chillspot, etc. But it's complicated as firmware needed to be flashed.

We have been unable to connect our PSPs to the new E2000, and after several hours we're ready to throw in the towel and go get a different router!The PSPs only see the "guest" connection when using the scan option, but cannot connect to it. Even after manually adding both the main and the guest info we are STILL unable to connect either of the PSPs We had an older router from your company which we had no issues connecting 6 desktops, a lappy, 2 psp, 2 ds, 2 xbox 360, and a Wii, as well as our smart phones. After this recent "upgrade" to the E2000 the PSPs CANNOT connect no matter what we do. It gives many different error messages.

How can I limit bandwidth speed of guest accounts? Or are there free softwares available to do something like that? It's kinda like the hotspot softwares - where we can set hourly, daily, monthly allowances and see a report on their connectivity.

partition the departmental IP network address block to create a staff and a student subnet. Each of these will be identified by its own network address and netmask. It is university policy that you must be economical with the IP addresses. That is, the subnets must be as small as possible, but they must be large enough to accommodate the maximum number of hosts you were given. Also, it is university policy that the respective gateway router to the outside world should always be given the highest possible host IP address in the subnet. The student subnet should have a higher IP network address than the staff subnet. The network must be able to support up to 60 machines on the staff subnet (not counting the router) and up to 120 machines on the student subnet (also not counting the router).
IP address/netmask
University network address127.158.128.0
University network mask255.255.192.0
University internet gateway IP address127.158.191.254
Department network mask255.255.254.0
Department router address127.158.129.254
Suppose that the network address of the departmental network is 127.158.128.0 (calculated by AND between Dep network mask and Dep router address)I know that 60 machines would use 6 bits for the staff subnet.the netmask of staff would be 255.255.255.192.how can I figure out the the IP network address of the staff subnet.I have worked out the range for the staff subnetwork.
127.158.128.0 - 127.158.128.63
127.158.128.1 = Gateway address
127.158.128.63 = Broadcast address
Now how can I calculate the IP network address of the staff subnet?

At the router, I disabled the DHCP server.What I want is that this has soitl BBOX that assigns DHCP addresses.How do I do? I do not understand how I should configure the E3000.

I would like to put an E2000 in an office where clients are coming and going throughout the day. When the documentation says that there is a maximum of 10 guest network users allowed (with a default setting of 5) what exactly does that mean ? I don't want the first 10 guest-clients who come in, connect to the guest network, then leave the office to consume all 10 slots for the day.If I have 50 people that come and go from the office throughout the day who connect to the guest 192.168.33.X network and attempt to enter the password (but no more than 10 guests authenticated at any given time) will all 50 be successful in connecting ? Or do I have to reduce the Client Lease Time to something less than the default setting of one day ?

I am on a University campus and they have provided the following to connect to the internet along with DNS server addresses:
IP Address: 192.168.25.24
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.254.1
When I connect my computer, it gives an error that the IP address and subnet mismatch, but it still connects to the internet just fine. However, if I try to put these settings into the DIR-655 along with my computer's MAC address, it gives me the error "WAN gateway IP address 192.168.25.24 must be within the WAN subnet" and requires I change it.

I recently setup a 2504 WLC that has two primary WLANs (internal and guest) which get their IP addresses from a central DHCP server using the local router's broadcast forwarding. Things seem to be working well for the internal wlan, but clients on the guest wlan don't seem to be getting IP addresses. If I give the client a static IP they are able to communicate across the wlan okay.
It is worth noting that I am using LAG between the controller and router and this guest wlan is really just a regular wlan (with PSK) that has an access-list applied to force it to the internet only. The access-list should be allowing dhcp requests through, but in any case, I removed the access-list and it made no difference.
Here is a debug client for a machine connected to the guest vlan (vlan 33). The internal wlan is on the 10.10.10.0/24 network (same as wired and same that the AP's are connected to) and the guest wlan is 10.33.0.0/16. I don't understand why I am seeing the dhcp request come from the internal vlan/ wlan first and it gets an IP address on this network. I then see a request on the guest wlan/vlan at which point it appears to get a valid IP address on the guest network (10.33.0.0), but the client never sees this. [code]

In our test set up, we have two WLC 5508 Controllers connected via Checkpoint UTM-1 firewall Inside and DMZ Interfaces. Both the WLC controllers are connected to the firewall via Cisco 3750 switch. On the Local (Inside) Controller, guest SSID is enabled and attached to the wireless management Interface. On the remote anchor controller, guest SSID is enabled and attached to the Management Interface as well. The following configs are replicated on both the Controllers.
SSID Name - guest
Interface - Management ( VLAN 10 on Local and VLAN 20 on remote) -
Mobility Group: Same configs at both ends
SSID Anchor : Anchor SSID on local and local SSID on Anchor.
AP: CAPWAP 3502 Management Subnet
[code]....
Is there any thing missing in the wireless configs and or the firewall rules as i could not see DHCP request back from the Anchor Controller. Also, after DHCP is obtained, the web authentication request will be redirected to an Amigopod device for authentication. In this case is the redirect URL congiguration to be performed only on the Anchor Controller or is this to be replicated on both the Local and Anchor Controllers.
